BILLY BOB DOESN'T GET ENOUGH CREDIT. DESERVES MANY OSCARS.
I don't understand the amazement of John Ritters acting on Three's Company he played gay on Sling Blade he played gay, in Bad Santa he played gay, same character right across the board!!!
I think Dwight Yoakam was absolutely great in the movie, him and his band trying to play drunk and arguing cracked me up.
Yes he was great 👍
WE AIN'T GOT NO FUCKING MICROPHONES!!!
"we need some PAYING gigs!".
Damn. I was hoping he’d do a little bit of Carl.
Every member of his band in that movie were legit musicians. Ian Moore, Vic Chesnutt, Col. Bruce Hampton, and Mickey Jones. Mickey was the only "actor" of this small group, but he had played drums with the likes of Kenny Rogers (and the First Edition) and Bob Dylan.
Billy Bob deserved an Oscar for his performance!
Who did win that year?
I agree 👍
One of Billy Bob Thornton's greatest performances of all time.
he was good in tombstone
Jealous that you couldn't take a little league team to a championship? Or where you a worst santa?
I remember when I saw it in a video store, rental. The clerk said, "Why don't you get this one?" And I said, "eh, I don't like fighting movies" (well, the title, right?) and she said, "Oh no! And she made two full moon eyes and said, "You. Will. Love. This. Movie! ...and you will cry, you like to cry, I know!" Well she was right on on all accounts and I loved the movie and have been in love with Billy Bob Thornton ever since!
It's been 25 years now, it ranks amongst the best movies made since then. Definitely top 5.
I agree. Back when it wasn’t about putting woke political agenda 💩 in 90% of the entertainment like it is today.
@@bultronlagore4932The best writers in Hollywood are not from Hollywood. Billy Bob is a perfect example of what quality is.
Agreed 💯
Aa yip. Got any dem French fried pertaters?
Billy Bob created this character all the way. I've never seen a better job at doing this other than,,,,(kinda hate ta say it) MAYBE Sam I Am with (ugh) Sean Penn. I'll give credit where credit is due I reckon mmmmhmmm
To this day, I still can't see Billy Bob's likeness in the character Karl he plays, what a brilliant piece of acting.
I know, me too! Karl even seems about 4 in taller 25 lbs heavier 😂 Incredible directing and acting by entire cast. One of those movies can watch 1000 times and never get sick of
Only comparison I can make is Charlize Theron in Monster. I dont care much for her personally, but great job in that film.
I think billy bob, being a bit more of an unknown at the time, did not get the recognition for the stunning transformation he did for this role.
OSCAR WORTHY!
Unrecognizable
John Ritter did an amazing job in that role. Fantastic actor.
*He played a funny person. Not funny 'ha-ha', funny queer.*
I had watched it twice before I realized it Mr. Ritter
He really did.
yep
For Sure- RIP John Ritter.
Dwight blew the hinges off this role, brilliant brilliant portrayal
He played his character so good, I want to punch him if I ever see him.😂😂😂
This was Thornton's best movie ever. Just an awesome job playing such a character.
Friday Night Lights was better
@@HankAaronJoseph19 Not in this lifetime!
Bad Santa was by far my favorite role for him. Sling Blade has to be his best overall movie. There are so few talented moviemakers that can step into any role needed to produce a top film like Billy Bob and Tarantino. Some direct, some act barely 10 in the history of Hollywood could do it all.
@@robertschumann7737 Totally agree and I think his bit part in Tombstone was my next favorite role. “You run your mouth kinda reckless for a man that don’t go heels.”
Monsters Ball
This guy is the only actor today who changed his entire looks and speech in a movie. Great performance.
Lol. You don't watch many movies, do you?
Robert Downey Jr in Tropic Thunder. One of the best movies
Johnny Depp??
Are you daft?
Daniel Day Lewis….in pretty much everything…
I still do the sling blade voice when I work on stuff lol like the lawn mower..
"Aint got no gas in it."
I recommend that you use the voice and ask the question at the nearest fast food franchise:"What you got that's good to eat?" 😂
"You art not say sech things, you just a boy" lol. At least that's how it goes in my head
Mmm-hmm.
Billy Bob Thornton is laid back and has a lot of talent, I love him in Sling Blade ❤
I still see him getting slapped around in " Tombstone " by Kurt Russel..." go ahead boy...skin that smoke wagon..."!
SLING BLADE IS AN ABSOLUTE MASTERPIECE and WHAT A TRANSFORMATION . I SHOWED THIS FILM TO FRIENDS and after the real BILLY BOB and they said naw thats not the same person🎷
Agreed, 100%. That movie was so well done, perfectly cast, just an absolute wonder to watch. I love watching it and *still* can't believe it's Thornton, he was so good.
I was watching Sling Blade on TV. My wife came in and asked "what are you watching"? I said a movie with Billy Bob Thornton but I haven't seen him yet, and we're halfway through the movie..... She said "That's him right there". I didn't believe her.
Slingblade is a classic and the best of Independent film. BBT is a great talent.

Billy Bob wrote and directed this film!! Amazing classic and AMAZING character he became as Carl. Dwight Yoakum was absolutely fabulous too!!
I don't know if Conan knew it while he did the interview, but one year later, Billy Bob really went Hollywood and worked on a blockbuster with asteroids, if Conan didn't know about this, he is the real psychic here
I caught that too, lol
What was it called?
@@mediocreman2 - the name of the movie is Armageddon. Asteroid disaster pic. If memory serves, it came out around the same time as Deep Impact.

Sling Blade was a masterpiece movie.
no joke.!!!!!!!
Great, sometimes dark movie. Unbelievable transformation with Billy Bob.
John Ritter and Dwight Yoakam were impressive in their roles too !
Saw the movie several times over the years.
I liked Dwight Yoakum's music before the movie but it was hilarious seeing him as belligerent, profanity spewing drunk lol
My mom was an RN and worked in a state psych hospital for eleven years (1977-1988). She told me that BBT's mannerisms, etc. were spot on in the movie. She said he or someone associated with the movie must have done their research.
He seems like a really great dude.
Side splitting, hilarious, dark, suspenseful and with a deliberate tempo! Well done Billy Bob Thornton!
SlingBlade was filmed where I lived (part of it) in Benton Arkansas. So very cool watching the movie and then driving past where it was filmed.
Same thing with the Hank Williams Sr. movie "the last ride" which my mom and step-dad were in as extras. The gas station scene, the station was owned by my step-dad .
❤Ding...ding... full service but what logo 76, Shell, Clarke, Sinclair? Fill us up.
I lived in Benton for a few years at a few different spots, all pretty much off Edison, and of course I spent a large portion of 2014 and most of 2015 in Saline County Detention Center before going to ADC. Small world, eh?

I saw this movie in the theater back in 97 with my dad. I was 21 he paid for the tickets it was good and my dad like it, his favorite was Robert Duvall, my favorite is Billy Bob Thornton and John Ritter. That movie never gets old watching it.
Billy Bob got an Oscar for best writing, best adapted screenplay. He was also nominated for best actor, too. When Billy Bob writes something, it stays written.
Billy Bob knows how to surround himself with great actors, because without John Ritter, Dwight Yoakum and JT Walsh among others this movie would not be the caliber it was. In my top ten of favorites.
As writer-director-lead actor, what you ought to have said is Billy Bob really knows how to write for and cast specific actors.
Dwight Yoakum was amazing.
Yes! One of my workers looked just like Dwight yoakam and acted like him in that movie one of my other workers came in while I was watching it and said oh my God that's Randy!
Never knew he was from Arkansas and of all places Malvern. My Grandmother, the second Homecoming Queen at University of Arkansas in the 1920's, Lived in Prescott, Raised my father and Uncle and we used to drive there all the time to visit them form Houston. 7 1/2 hour drive of pure joy. Always love hearing about people who grew up in small towns around Arkansas
This is an awesome conversation, respectful, professional, just awesome.
The comments are awesome too!
Can't believe he didn't mention JT Walsh as he listed those names. This film made me a big fan of him.
"Mercury, is a 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘭 good car."
@@butchvito rolled the window down via electric power
JT was disturbingly amazing in this role. I’m sure Billy Bob was just nervous and forgot to mention.
"And there before me lay a thin, crooked, uncircumcised penis -- you can imagine how bad I wanted my twenty dollars back."
I kinda missed hearing JT a mention also. That guy had to be terrifying to act with, because he steals every scene he’s in in every movie he’s in IMO. One of the most undervalued actors in history.
BillyBob and I were born the same year. I loved that movie so much I bought the DVD. Any time I happen to see the movie on cable I’ll drop everything to watch Slingblade. I met John Ritter at LAX airport, after speaking to him I felt like I’d known him for 20 years.
It wasn’t a few months later his aorta desiccated, such a loss to us all, John was wonderful. 💕

Sling Blade is my number 1.
So far I have watched it about 25-30 times.
It's a tutorial for brilliance.
One of THE best movies ever IMO. He deserved every award there is for this movie. Outstanding.
The absolute pathos he makes you feel for his character in Sling Blade is just about unparalleled.
As a testament to Billy Bob's acting ability, when I watched the film I had had idea the lead was Billy Bob.
- I had to watch it 4 times to see Robert Duvall, same with To Kill A Mockingbird. The luckiest actor ever, been in many iconic movies and shows from Twilight Zone to the Godfather.
One of my favorite movies. This man did an amazing job of doing this character.
That movie was an experience to me, not just a film. A fantastic bit of fiction.
It's probably one of the best performances I've ever seen. When you couple that with the fact that he wrote and directed the movie, it ranks up there with one of the best artistic accomplishments of all time. BTW - I put Sylvester Stallone and Rocky I in the same category. I miss these kinds of talents. Who's next ?
I love movies that cast people you would not expect to pull off certain roles. Like Dwight and John. Love John in Bad Santa too. Rest in Peace John.
The acting in this movie is amazing. Billy Bob's especially since it's so transformative. Hard to still realize they aren't two different people.
Dwight Yoakam should have gotten the academy award. Best performance ever.
ZZ Top and Elvis ! Gotta love BBT
Thornton was like Lon Chaney in this role...a totally different person. What a great performance!
Billy Bob is an amazing actor!!!... "sling blade"..."u turn"...and "perfect plan".. are all incredible movies!! ... I especially liked Billy's character in "u turn"!!!
It's called a simple plan not perfect plan.
Was also good in Tombstone. Bit part but very believable.

It’s interesting when Conan asks him if he is gonna write a big blockbuster Hollywood screenplay about asteroids and volcanoes, he didn’t, but a year later he starred in Armageddon which is exactly what Conan described
My mom just met his band. She said he gave her a hug. No pen he didn't have one either. I said you have to bring one!. Said he was a great guy.
The kid he befriended in that movie, Lucas Black, had such a thick accent. I thought he was playing it up for the part. If he was, he has played it up in everything he's been in since. Really liked the kid in Friday Night Lights as well, which was also with Billy Bob Thornton. Another of my favorite movies. Kind of wish he had been in the TV series too.

How in The hell was it underrated it got nominated for an Oscar and he won for Best screenplay and he was nominated for best actor what a dumb comment
Let’s give Lucas Black his props, he did a great job. Especially being so young.
Is that the child? He really did act like an actor
Many child actors just amaze me.
great movie and all of the actors were awesome.. BB, Dwight, John and the the kid Lucas just all did an amazing job.
Lucas Black was recently in NCIS New Orleans.
Watching pre 9-11 clips is so surreal. It’s like catching a glimpse, not just of the past, but of a place and a people that don’t exist anymore.
Really liked Sling Blade and also the kid - Lucas Black. Lucas has now been in some good movies as well as CSI-New Orleans so has done pretty well. Billy Bob had a short but really well-acted part in Tombstone, although he had to let Wyatt (Kurt Russell) smack him around a bit.
I didn't recognize his face in Tombstone but immediately recognized his voice as soon as he spoke.
I think Lucas Black was phenomenal in Sling Blade. He really stole a lot of scenes.
Lucas Black and Billy Bob in Friday night lights as well
He's a pretty famous dude for being in different fast and furious movies. And he was in X files the movie and The war with Kevin Costner. But check out Get Low.
In a former career I had to call places for parts. My Sling blade imitation was pretty spot. My Sean Connery is no slouch either.
Vendors always knew it was me.
One of the best actors in the buziness. In my opinion. Can't imagine how bad that has to hurt his face.
He was so different in the movie then in real life. It's amazing. Great movie great acting
WE DON'T NEED TO FCKN PRACTICE RANDY!!!! What a movie. He has been my favorite since his famous Mtv awards interview. Got out of the limo all out of breath so they had to ask them what was up lol. Just proving how badass he really is. Then seeing a lot of behind-the-scenes, he seems like the coolest dude ever.
I think all should see “Doyle lose it” at least a 1000 times!! It’ll help others understand us Drunks a little better!!👌👌😜
I get the impression that Billy Bob is a pretty loyal guy. John Ritter, I’m guessing probably had to approve Billy Bob’s in the TV series “Hearts Afire”, I believe it was with Markie Post. And Billy Bob was the funniest guy on the show. That was his first big break before people really discovered him in Sling Blade. I appreciate loyalty. And I think Billy Bob put John in that movie as a thank you for having him in the TV series.
Aw! Great info! Thanks for that fun yet imperative fact! Loyalty is my favorite quality about someone. It says everything. I love hearing all the stuff like this cuz so many of us would be soul crushed to find out he’s really an asshole in real life! I’ve liked him since way back when anyway but it’s been forever since I’ve revisited this movie or heard/seen this phenomenal dude.
I saw it when it first came out on VHS. Being an indy film I was not too sure about it when I rented it. Wow, was I in for a surprise. My wife and I were drawn into that film and the intensity of the acting. What an amazing and famously surprising movie.
"Asteroids". Conan is bit of a psychic himself.
Dwight Yoakam was a phenomenal and believable heel in Sling Blade... such a great choice and performance
Love Billy Bob, he’s from Arkansas and actually dated one of my high school teacher’s mom and actually made a cassette tape for her that she still had and brought to show us😂
This man deserves an acting Oscar. One False Move is also incredibly underrated
Rick Dial is one of my favorite actors. Most natural actor on camera, I've ever seen. Rest in Peace...
I wish Doyle would get that band back together.
Sling Blade was made on a budget of less than a million dollars and multi million dollar movies these days don't even come close, true talent and genius is far more entertaining than the crap movie studios put out these days, I don't think there are many screen writers left these days that are even close to the level of Billy Bob, everyone in that movie was absolutely brilliant.
Billy Bob FTW. Slingblade is an amazing flick.
“It ain’t got no gas in it.”
"See there, he thinks of the simplest things first"
You'd be surprised how many machines come into the shop only needing gas. I was working in one when this movie was released, and I swear on my guts and livers, we would get at least one per week.
One in particular I remember was the lady said she had just got it back from a different shop that charged her over 200 dollars to do a carb kit and basic "tune up" (oil change, air filter, plug, sharpen blade, clean rust off flywheel magnets / coil, blow debris off cooling fins, etc.) Back then we were charging 45 per hour, so the whole thing should have come in at less than 100. She said it ran fine when she picked it up, but after 20 minutes it died and wouldn't start back. She stated she felt they didn't do a good job, wanted me to see what they did wrong, or missed. Put a splash of gas in it, it started right up. No charge. Her husband owned a mowing service, and felt he was being overcharged on repairs. He had sent her to us to test our honesty. We got all his business after that day.😃
Mmhmm
I have watched Sling Blade several times, and it's always a powerful experience. Carl was far more human and kind than most people understood him to be. He knew what to do to the express his love for that boy.
Sling Blade is a masterpiece.!!!!!!!!

My junior high school son is on a constant diet of modern action-packed superhero movies. I rent an old one once in awhile and force my kids to watch it with me. They dread when I do this until about 5 minutes in. It only takes about 5 minutes in and they're hooked. afterwards they shake their head and say something like, 'wow, it's amazing how such a quiet movie could be so exciting '
The young little Frank was so cute and my kids loved him.Lol
Watched it a couple times and didn't know it was BBT until I saw him talking about it during an interview.
