Hands down one of the best examples of a truly great actor.
I can’t believe Billy Bob did not win and academy award for best actor. That’s outrageous!
It was 1997 and the winner was Goeffery Rush for the movie Shine, which was also an amazing performance.
So, maybe less outrageous than simple circumstance.
Like, if he lost to George Clooney as Batman, THAT would be outrageous.
And... Billy Bob won an Oscar for best adapted screenplay for this film.
@@hhiippiittyy yep, just goes to show that there is always someone better out there and Billy Bob set the bar so high from this role that only someone as talented as Geoffrey Rush could ever beat him.
Never go full retard
I'm sure that was because they realized Billy Bob was too good for an academy so they just left him without one since they didn't have an award for that great of acting sequence I guess 🤷♂️
mhmm... some people callit an oscar, i call it an academy award.
Truly is an incredible transformation from his actual personality, what a rare and unique actor, I loved this movie, gems like this one come along very rarely.
Couldn't agree more, friend.
Yeah in real life he's an abusive piece of trash
I watch it a lot
You can really feel him reliving the scene...Chilling the first time I watched it...
I'm Impressed with Billy Bob Thorton's acting!
I liked him in bad Santa and the Alamo
Remember, he also wrote the screen play, directed it, raised the funding, and did a majority of the editing. Yeah, he's more than a great actor.
its ashame he is really an asshole in real life.
@@robertraft , I assume you can give us some examples .......
@Fred Sanderson , interesting. He attacked me with nuclear weapons, although he referred to them as Kaiser Bombs .
“I reckon that didn’t quite satisfy me.” I might start using that line... “Sir, how was your meal?” Well, I reckon it didn’t quite satisfy me....
That sourdough didn't quite satisfy me. So, I reckon I grabbed the kaiser roll. Then I grabbed a butter knife and split it right in two mmmhhhhmmm.
@@Dick_Valparaiso Some folks call it a sling roll...
@@Motor_Cackle How much ye want fer it? ...I reckon I'll have the biggun then.
Well, it ain’t got mustard in it.
Alright then
One of the greatest films I ever saw. Billy Bob is a true genius. This couldn’t be an easy part to learn.
The music is perfect for this scene.Dark, sad but also beautiful
Daniel Lanois did the music for this film. And it’s nothing short of epic.
Lanois created the u2 sound for which they should be forever grateful. The Maker is a great song.
@@callmeishmael7452 Deeep cut I'm thankful for you Ishmael.
Thank both of you. You are a blessing.
I love all of the body language he uses in this scene. Usually he plays the character as mostly stoic and soft. But here, when he's describing certain events, you can tell it's distressing to recount them just by the way he moves or closes his eyes. An excellent performance.
He (Thornton) said in the 'Inside The Actors Studio' interview that the rubbing of hands was like him trying to wash all the bad away.
Movies like this don't come around often, I watch it again and again
Should have won academy award for the movie.
Mmmhhhmmm
Never go full retard
He did.
Weirdly I saw it wasn't even nominated. But guess what movie was nominated that year: Jerry Maguire. Yeah. The "show me the money" tom cruise oscar bait vehicle that is full of nonsense and catchphrases.
He did
God I love this scene, the acting, music. Amazing.
Notice that the music stops when he says "killed her". Brilliant directing on his part to drive that point home.
This is the best acting performance of all time hands down.
Best? No. Great and one of the most iconic, definitely.
Right up there with DiCaprio in Whats Eating Gilbert Grape.
It's good but Daniel Plainview is wild. It's not my place to say although my opinion is there will be blood has the best acting or maybe Gangs of New York
It was such an amazing performance.
If you watch him in this and then watch him in “Bandits” (best comedy ever) you can’t believe it’s the same actor.
Astonishing acting ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️❤️🙏🏼
The scene about his baby brother gets me the most 😭.
I’m yer kin. Imagine saying that to your father and him not knowing you. R. Duvall was incredible in small cameo.
He was just a little feller. Didn't deserve that.
I always skip that part when I watch this movie. I'm a father and it gets to me too much. Same with the opening scene to the movie Law Abiding Citizen.
@@chazmichaelmichaels88 What's funny is those were the last 2 movies I watched
@@buick4622 that's wild. What are the chances, haha.
WHAT A FABULOUS SCENE FROM A FANTASTIC ACTOR>>>>
too bad he is a real asshole
@@robertraft , I assume you can give us some examples .......
@@joemag6032 sure, check out his impromtu interview on canadian radio a few years back, the guy is weird and a bit of a twat.
This is a real gem of a film Always liked Billy Bob he's brilliant in this movie
"Killed her." Hard stop! ... Yeah, I guess I'd do it again...
Billy Bob ought to let Carl out of the nervous hospital one more time for a sequel.
This isn’t the kind of movie that needs a sequel.
The constant mmhmm's and repeating descriptions of items makes it more authentic.
A gem of a movie.
Everybody said Billy Bob did a DAMN good job with that part and now I do too.
The one dislike was from Old Man Dixon I bet.
He done took his pointer, mmmhmmm some people call it a mouse, he calls it a pointer mhmmmm clicked on top a that ole down arraw.
@@fjccommish Lol!
@@fjccommish lmao
fjvideo lmfao....nice
I reckon it was..MMHMM
Some people call this movie Kaiser Blade but I call it Sling Blade
We all strive to get 100% on whatever we do but, Billy Bob got 1,000% for acting beyond the greatest imagination. I feel he killed it to be worthy of the Academy Award's best actor performance throughout the movie. Talk about nailing it.
As Big as this movie was, IMO it was still very underrated .. the Acting is just EPIC... not only Billy Bob, but also John Ritter of course, J T Walsh, Dwight Yoakam played an Epic asshole, heck even the guy who played Bill Cox was very very good ... just Epic Casting and believable acting .. very chilling when Karl here tells his story ... Not sure how they ever let him out ,, he point blank tells them he would do it again the same way .. but then we would not have a Movie
Don't forget Scooter !
Don't forget the tard girlfriend of Carl's.... Stone cold sexy FOX 😀 LOL
@@Lue_Jonin what
It was strange they let him out, he's character was inconsistent somehow.
@Revolvin Goatt I don't think anyone is making fun of mentally handicapped people, they are judging and analyzing the character, of course. He violently attacked and killed his mother and some male she was having sex with, that is deeply disturbing, at any age and regardless any mental handicap, it surely goes beyond that. Perhaps he was rehabilitated in those year's inside the institution and murdered again for other reasons, maybe moral.
Love the damn music.
A truly haunting performance.
This is premium acting
Billy Bob won an Oscar for Best Adapted Scren Play for Sling Blade
And that was it?! He should have won best actor! Holy cow that was some epic acting.
Never go full retard as they say.
Just watched this film absolutely brilliant I love Billy Bob Thornton
Yeah I agree it's one of the best movies I've ever seen
One of the most intense scene I ever seen in a movie. Loved this movie!
Walked in on his mom doing his school bully while waiting for her to give him a bible lesson.
"bible lesson"
Always wanted to act but I could never create something like this kudos to actors that can create something so beautiful
Acting at it's BEST 💯 ........BILLY BOB.......IS A GREAT ACTOR 🎯
"He waza havin' his way with her" Best line in the movie.
It’s unfortunate Billy Bob Thornton wasn’t more widely known when this was released. The transformation and incredible delivery would have received greater recognition than it did, even though it received a lot, had that been the case IMO.
What do you mean? This movie is what put Billy Bob Thornton on the map and got him roles after this. He won the oscar for writing the screenplay for this movie and he was nominated for best actor for this movie. After that, he played more overweight roles, until he lost alot of weight for Armageddon and started getting more leading man roles.
@@theclaybeartravels3596 well said. I acknowledge all of your points. I think my comment was directed more towards the best actor award specifically. I should have been more clear. Thanks.
One of the best movies ever made.
This movie is no where to be found to watch! Best freaking flick I've never seen!!!
I want a Sling Blade- Forest Gump collab. Forest:"Life is like a box of chocolates". Karl:"You got any taters in that there box?".
"Ain't got no gas in it"
@@robertmoffit1135 Fun fact for Christmas Eve. Both went on to become Santa Claus.
Add "old Joe" to that mix...
"I've got hairy legs that that that that turn blonde in the summertime"
I’ll have mine with MUST-ARD
Somebody made one. It's on YT.
i just found this movie a couple days ago. so underrated havent stop talking like karl since
This movie is a masterpiece.
AN ABSOLUTE MASTERPIECE
I'm thinking that there's nothing wrong with our friend Karl here that some biscuits and mustard could't fix.
Alright then . . .
Great acting. Respect for Billy Bob Thornton.
Some people can relate..... Painful world.
I would've never guessed this was Billy Bob Thorton if I hadn't of read the comments since I've never seen this movie. Wow.
I'd like to see a sequel to Sling Blade - Karl fights aliens.
"That alien feller on TV said they were a comin' to take over the Earth mmmhmmmm. He didn't say where they was fixin' to take it, but I think it's good where it is now - I reckon I ain't gonna to let em take it anywheres mmmhmmmm."
No

Funny you should say that, Mad TV had the same idea.
@@christianscellerato5193 I'd like to see another one of them Mad TV take offs on Sling Blade, mmm Hmmm.
@@fjccommish Don’t you hate it when that happens?
@@christianscellerato5193 it's because he ripped off the idea and tried to pass it off as his own LOL nice catch! ;-)
This is such an awesome movie.
one of the best movies ever !
Never seen such a slow paced movie that was this entertaining the whole way through. The casual bigotry is funny but not that offensive
@@worsethanhitlerpt.2539 yep
I've acted some, but I've never seen anyone hold character is good is Billy Bob Thornton doing this movie, it was as if he was taken over by a spirit of the three men that he said he gathered this character from. Not one time that I ever see him accidentally or on purposely get out of character throughout the whole movie and speaking or body movements or eye movement absolutely superb.
Kinda like a bananner.
He made good sport of it I reckon
You mean like what the highway boys use? 😂
A masterpiece!
Wadja keel jesse fur wadja keel jesse fur
Brilliant!! Billy Bob your a genius.
I love how it starts off with mmmhhhmmm
I can't ever believe Karl is B.B. Thornton. I see no resemblance whatsoever. Best actor EVER.
Incredible acting.
While the performance itself is outstanding, the music really makes it intense. This movie is damn near a masterpiece.
I can't believe that Billy Bob is so brilliant yet such an insufferable tool all at the same time.
The list of actors that should have gotten Oscars for their performance is long. Robert Shaw in "Jaws", Eli Wallach in "The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly", and Billy Bob Thornton in "Slingblade" to name but a few. And don't forget Val Kilmer in "Tombstone" and Tom Cruise for "Tropic Thunder".
i came up on this movie by accident im glade i did its a good movie
Thorntons performance was every bit as good if not better than Hoffmans Rainman.
Equals.
Incredible movie !!!
The music really ratcheted up the intensity of the story. A great scene all around. Great acting by Billy Bob but also a great score and atmosphere to boot.
one of my favorite movies.Acting just sublime. story and direction absolute top drawer.BB did damn good..."I reckon...yessir. ...hmmhmm
The atmosphere of this movie and Monster's Ball are very similar. They both star BBT so I don't think that's a coincidence
"what'd you kill Jesse fer! what'd you kill Jesse fer!"
The Kaiser called and wants his blade back.
Some folks call it a sling blade mm mmm
Great scene
I looked up what a Sling Blade looks like and holy shit that's got a long blade on it. I can picture his story more clear in my head now
I think it's the blade on a scythe ... which is what was used to hew tall grasses, including the harvesting of wheat (note that little boy's family name is "Wheatley"). So, the connection between a Sling/Scythe Blade and a Lawnmower Blade is pretty clear. 👍
@tdesq.2463 Scythes and sling blades are different. A sling blade is half axe half scythed. I have both. The scythe can cut grass and the sling blade works for brambles,
The best movie ever made.
I like those fried tators too mmmmhmmm
Great scene….
You just don't see light bulbs this hot anymore.
That smoke is coming from the pipe tobacco of a character just off camera, the head of the "nervous hospital" .
i reckon i got a hankerin' fer some mustard 'n' biskits, mmm-hm.
"Karl?"
Rekon I have me one of da bigguns, MMM HMMMM! 😂
Damn good movie
Only actor who could do a part like this as good as Billy Bob Thornton was Dustin Hoffman in rainman.
Billy Bob Thornton could hide in plain sight if he had not made this movie
It wasn't just the delivery it was the creepy music at the same time.
Probably the closest we'll get to see of the one man play for those of us who didn't go to school with Billy Bob
Top 10 of all time films…Easily
How Billy didn’t get an Oscar for this performance is beyond me!
Don’t give Carl a reason.
It was shaped like a bananner!😳😳 what ya killed Jessie fer what ya killed Jessie fer! Would have done it the same way if you had it to do over? I reckon I would, mmm hhmmm! 😂🤣😂🤪!
This movie is fucking depressing 😰
Missed that my favorite line from whenever he was fixin' to git set free wasn't in this clip, "I don't reckon I got no reason to kill nobody. Mmm."
Wow i clicked realizing ive never seen this movie
I reckon the fact that his momma was readin' the bible to 'em wasn't no kinda help.
Great point, lol. She might have read the story of Phinehas to him the night before.
Damn I didn’t remember him killing his mama too & ive seen this movie 100+ times
Same here...
How is that possible?
I walked by one of my friends on the street and asked what's up, he said his cholesterol mmmmmhhmmmm!
Makes me want some of them biscuits.
The Jesse Dixon on top of Carls mother is identical to the scene in Forest Gump. The school principal
I don't recall Forest ever picking up a kaiser blade mmhmm.....
@@nignamedmutt7270 some folk call it a sling blade..mmm..hmm..mmm
The other way around
Not saying his actions are correct , killing is never the answer , but you figure from how much he was tormented from getting picked on at school and what not to an abusive father , killing of his brother and an adulterous mother, etc he was in a world where he didn’t have much of a chance at any normal life. Felt so bad for him , why he wasn’t going to let Doyle destroy that boy, his friend.
Wish I could hear it. Turning up the volume doesn't help.
I agree with the others; he's a great actor.
I reckon I like me some Sling Blade clips, mm hm.
