  • Ep 6 - Spruce grouse is the tastiest treat in these woods. Sometimes they seem to vanish before your very eyes, using they're camouflaged feathers every chance they get. I explain my favourite way to prepare a grouse for eating. Later in the episode I begin digging the foundation for the new log cabin.
    Along with my good friend @djtudino we are putting all our survival, bushcraft, primitive hunting fishing and building skills to the ultimate test of survival. Being dropped in northern Labrador without food and only 10 survival items, along with a ton of batteries, solar panels and camera gear to film a small Hollywood production.
    Tune in every Sunday for a new episode right here on Skote Outdoors.

    I cannot fathom the effort of just living in the wild like this, but to also journal it all by video and share with all of us…. This is truly painstaking work, and can only be accomplished by a very dedicated, very determined and very skilled individual.
    I look forward to each new episode.

    So nice to see your location from a higher vantage point - looks like you're on a peninsula. Also, as you were cleaning fish, it looks like a structure, or two, across the water?? You are thriving with great food - berries, birds, fish - wonderful. Hope that cabin gets built before it gets too cold. Always a great video. Just love them all. Blessings

      @Indigo Love - I went back to check it out and I see 4-5. Then it occurred to me the area is hilly and the caribou moss is the same colour as those 'possible' hunting cabins so now I'm hoping Matty will reply and confirm what they are. There are some that cannot be caribou moss on hills.

    • @skoteoutdoors
      @skoteoutdoors  2 роки тому +1

      yes the cabin is situated on the south shore of a peninsula, the fishing spot is on the north side. The nearest cabins that I came across was back at the outpost where the plan lands. I have been told there are a couple other areas on that lake with a few hunting camps but I didn't see any.

The amazing haul of sustenance on the beach was eye popping and then you pan over to ALL the equipment used to capture this and it slam's home what it takes. Yes, I understand you set up cameras and edit and upload but shit trying to survive and make a solid go in the bush. Like I said to start, un-freaking real man.

    Just a quick question Matty. Did your experience in the Yukon have anything to do with you pulling that moss for the cabin early? Lol

    • @skoteoutdoors
      @skoteoutdoors  2 роки тому

      Yes sir it did, good memory on ya! In Labrador the way it was going I could tell it was going to be freeze up by the time I was ready to properly chink the cabin. So even tho its not what I would like to do normally..laying moss between logs as I build, it ended up being beneficial to have it roughly air tight right out of the gate. I wouldn't advise this technique for a cabin you want to keep for 50 years, proper way is finish building then chink from outside and then again from the inside packing the jam tight.
