  • Ep 9 - Fishing this late in the season seems to of paid off. Balancing time between fishing and building the log cabin, the roof goes on just as the snow really begins to fly. Moving in and spending the first night in the cabin wasn't so sweet as I had planned.

    I know this is not what people expected, but it's a good reminder that this isn't just an "evening national geographic show" for us to watch. It's real, and your health mentally and physically is paramount.
    It's always better to be safe than sorry, better to call for help while you are able. Your body knows when it can't go on, you may have easily recovered in a couple days, but sometimes a physical injury can shake you mentally to your core.
    Thanks for what you did film, it's been a great experience in this series.

    Matty you are pure inspiration to me. I will take your ism's "just like that", and your poetic observations and clues from mother nature. With the sadness that you must feel, and from a selfish point of view, us your loyal tribe... I am so happy that I found you and look forward to learning so much more as the months and as the years go bye. Two amazing buildings; one on each side of our continent... Wow, hope your head is Okay, and that coming back to the insanity of "civilization" does not make your head or heart hurt more. Quite content to just start from the beginning and watch it all again, until you choose your next adventure. By the way, you look very healthy, and your hair glows....... living outside and appreciating every moment of life, no matter what it brings...., might have something to do with it. Bravo until next time...

    I joined in on the bandwagon only in the last 2 weeks but after todays drop i decided to watch all your videos starting from the fish camp.
    Your journey is so interesting can you please do a debrief video?
    What happened? Did you just slip and fall, got a bit concussed? What combination of factors caused you to pull the pin?
    what motivated you to start all this?
    What did you do before youtube?
    Where is this all going next?
    And please address the controversy over the Yukon cabin.

      wow many questions... yes there will be a debrief video at some point. Yes it was a slip and fall, hit my head on a log as I fell. I lost my confidence after this, which was a sure sign to me that it was time to pull out and regain my composure somewhere safe.

    Kicking your own ass is a common occurrence. The whole issue is that they hold down those emotions after all that time out there just so they can hit you with it just when your ready to shit out all that worry. :/ I'm in a similar boat, I'm building a house on land I don't own (I'm just 10 minute bike ride into the city though) I've been living in tents for years now, and while things are really good compared to when I first found this hacienda, I can't wait till I have a kitchen! I'm making the house out of concrete, I already have a 200sqft foundation finished... mostly made of aircrete with a topping of motar. I also put in 8 8ft columns of aircrete around the perimeter, and the last piece I'm working on now is making aircrete/crushed foam blocks for walls. I had to hike in the concrete but on the other end of the hacienda is a lake, so I just piped in water through 400ft of garden hose. I need to build a small dock so I don't have to hike in the materials for the rest of the project. Just seems like a dream cause it takes so long to get done.

    I hope you're okay!!! I mean this is hard, living in the cold Canadian North all alone, eating only what you catch and even go into the lake during winter, wow... I totally understand if you need a break, I personally would have died after 3 days... BTW glorious hair here -> 8:14 😄 Can't wait to see your update, take good care!

    I started watching all these videos after you were featured with Chad Zuber! What a shocking end!! I hope when you get back to the 'real world' you will decide to go back to the wilderness and finish out your stay. I really wish someone would just decide to live in the bush and see if it can still be done. Just sayin...

    I heard you say you had snare wire, but i havent seen you snareing any rabbits. That seems like it would take less energy than than the gill netting.

    • @skoteoutdoors
      @skoteoutdoors  2 роки тому

      yes I had snare wire, due to the open terrain of the land it was defiantly easier to run a gill net. the plan was to begin trapping once the snow really set in and I could track the animals

    That was weird. Did that little injury lead to your mental spiral or did the elements get to you?
    Wait, your pulling our leg, right?

    • @skoteoutdoors
      @skoteoutdoors  2 роки тому

      the physical injury wasn't such a big deal as the mental struggle that followed. when your that far in the bush and fully relying on yourself it is very important to have full confidence in yourself and little to no fear of your surroundings. after hurting my self the doubts started to creep in and the only smart thing to do from there was to pull the plug
