The scene where Rango points his revolver to Jake, he laughs and says:

And Rango goes

@@AxxLAfriku your beautiful
He had a full character arc, which is unusual for animated villains. They're usually just killed in the end or imprisoned indefinitely.
@@AxxLAfriku your amazing you pure blood!
@@AxxLAfriku what?
I love how the mayor is portrayed as a villain when we first meet him. He's so shady, and suspicious, that it's pretty easy to "sus" out that he's probably a bad dude. but, whatcha gonna do? he's the mayor, he controls the water, he has the trust of some people he manipulates. He perfectly encapsulates the idea of the corrupt politician as the main threat, but one you can't take head on at first, and have to be clever and amicable to avoid being found out that you're against him.
I also find it pretty awesome how he's a tortoise, an earth turtle that can go long long LONG time without water. He of all animals is the one who needs least water in comparison to all other animals and yet is the one who controls it.
@@Maludosgatos That is an excellent point, I had not thought of that! Adding on to the narrative characteristics of a tortoise, it's worth considering that turtles and tortoises are also known for their very long lifespans, which in context with the mayor can symbolize how people who come into power and political positions often stay for years.
@@Maludosgatos like the rich hoarding land from working people
I would have also lived to see a version where the secretary fox was the true villain behind it as she could be like a sly fox. The little exchange she has with beans at the tailor could be because she's the only person who has not given up her land. Maybe she is a red herring if you didn't immediately suspect the mayor as the villain. I'm still very satisfied with how they made the slow meticulous tortoise who can technically live up to 250 years be the antagonist.
The animation is 10 years old and yet it's better than the animation we get today
it’s honestly crazy just how true that is
Creativity and a desire to create something truly unique goes a lot farther than a beefy Hollywood budget.
I really liked how Clint Eastwood looked in the animation, really smooth stuff
Nah animation today is genuinely great. This just has a more artistic texture style to it.
I do see what the lack of understanding can do a bastard but lemme inform Y'all's this.
We can do this now, and even quicker with the power of PCs can render this shit out.
It's just that one- As it's been said, this shit ain't marketable. Hence why these near photo realistic styles of CGI styles are usually pretty costly if it comes to making smth profitable.
Not to mention a movie like the Incredibles with a simple design philosophy and tone. I'd also like to point out the intricate details in that movie are actually pretty fucking great if you look closely enough.
Add in Toy Story 4.
These examples are just shit you'd probably say have bad animation, no, it's not bad animation.
You don't like their design philosophy which is an entirely different argument.
rango turned 10 years old a couple months ago and yet its visuals haven't aged a day
Just like Johnny Depp
It’s ageless.
Rango's visuals are ahead of the *current* time and it's been 10 years. Like seriously maybe it's nostalgia but I think it's better than modern animation.

I honestly think the ‘Other Side Of The Road’ isn’t death. But it’s a metaphor for enlightenment. Finding yourself, what truly drives you. The holy quest for spirituality. Very Quixotic, who the Armadillo is supposed to represent
I think it less quixotic and more unlikely.
Agreed
Rango is a masterclass for what CG animation can achieve. Not too childish, not too serious. Not too cartoony, not too realistic. Super funny, action packed, and with the thrill of the best westerns out there

Say it louder for the people in the back!
As someone who lives in the desert, I can say Rango’s portrayal of how dry it is is uncomfortably accurate
I remember seeing this in the theater as a full-grown adult, getting to Jake's first appearance and just whispering under my breath, "If that isn't the coolest fucking thing..."
Rango was the first movie that made me fall In love with westerns as a child

Because adults see it's animated and go "ehh...". And kids see the character designs and go "nah....". The only reason i watched it was because it was already on in my living room. I really enjoyed it.

Can we talk about how rango's voice mains are the actors for jack sparrow (for Rango) and Davy Jones (rattlesnake jake)? Enemies in all universes
Oh wow! Cool! 💜
Also the same director, Gore Verbinsky
Rango and Rattlesnake Jake is one of my favorite hero/villain dynamics ever.
is one of my favorite too
I really wish I got to see more of Jake in the film because he’s just THAT cool of a villian, literary wise and aesthetically wise. Not only does he look terrifying but he is one of the few villians that is capable of committing a massacre in a matter of seconds. But, I guess it made more sense to reveal him much later on in the movie in order to build that suspense.
@@zof5394 Recently I've been thinking about how cool it would have been to have gotten a spin-off show (or at least a comic series) to expand on the world of Rango and flesh out the characters some more than we got in the movie. Like what Dreamworks did for Kung Fu Panda and How to Train Your Dragon. And how a bunch of Disney movies have been adapted into entire shows that further explore the world of the movie. I just wish we could have gotten that with Rango
I saw this movie in theaters when I was a kid and I remember my older sister pointing out afterwards how depressing it was that Rango tried to commit suicide on the freeway, and I made no connections until then. I just thought “haha silly lizard is spacing out”. That’s the day my childhood died. A core memory, if you will.
The animation in this movie is so damn great you forget this was made almost a decade ago, AND IT STILL HOLDS UP!!!!
The best part is they had the actors literally play out the entire film at first like a stage play and filmed it there is film of this just so it could feel this real. I'd pay to watch the whole thing all over again just to watch that goofy as hell footage.
I got so thirsty during this movie. It was really fun to watch and the German voice actor really nailed it.
Who was german
Nah.. You are lying!
One of the things I find most fascinating about this movie is how, even though Rango basically bullshited his cowboy persona from the start he fully becomes it even before meeting Rattlesnake Jake and crossing the road, which fits the theme of our deeds making us who we are rather than what they say about us.
I love Biotic’s cutaways w/ his other personalities
They’re funny, badass, and with just the right amount of cheese 🧀🤌🏻
Sometimes... you think he's cutting away, but then you realize, he's cutting at you.
Rango is filmed...like a film. Like a western. It’s AMAZING.
The bar scene where he first says his name is pure gold. "Ain't no one gonna tango with the Rango."
one of my fav scenes in this movie is when Jake wraps around the mayor and leaves. this scene just looks so badass and the way its animated is so good
Rango is legit my favourite movie, it has a compelling main character, beautiful animation, western (which I very much like), a story about self discovery and redemption, hilarious humour, and a kind of over the top feeling that I just love. Truly a masterpiece
I definitely remembered the plot details about Rango's freaky dream, about the water shortage, about Beans's weird tic of freezing in place at seemingly random, about Rattlesnake Jake, about urbanizing the town, about the random Mariachi Owls, even before watching this movie.
omg...this is the mandela effect
something that you didn't catch about Rango's Spirit of The West: He was voiced by Timothy Olyphant, who played Sheriff Bullock in the 2004 Western TV show Deadwood. The spirit of the west was Clint Eastwood, an iconic old western actor, and he was voiced by a famous modern western actor.
YO THATS COOL
Wearing the same outfit from the dollars trilogy, that same outfit Rango wears when he confronts Jake
I re-watch Rango every couple years. It still holds absurdly well today and looks better than most animated films you see. The amount of passion, care and attention for detail in this movie is mesmerizing. From the crew actually acting the scenes, stellar voice cast, from the research on the creatures, on top of those very heavily detailed designs. Rango came out during the boom of "CGI talking animals kids films" but it really stood out for the gritty character designs and more adult themes. It won a bunch of accolades, and well deservedly so.
Two things I just realized: he's a chameleon, and them changing color is his way of not knowing who he is at first and then blending in and forming a persona.
Second, he says as long as the sign is up, we got hope, and the sign is shot up, but it's still barely hanging... and they did win at the end!
Color me amazed.
I love a Jack Sparrow and Davy Jones reunion
Rattlesnake jake is the most memorable villain for me as a kid I just saw him as this unbeatable threat and I wasn't even scared of him just angry that he was so powerful compared to everyone else and it seemed as if he couldn't be beaten
This is my favorite movie. Even after watching Spider-Verse 1000 times, Rango is still my favorite movie.

I remember rewatching the movie with the knowledge that it was made by Gore Verbinski, creator of the first 3 pirates films (which I loved) and the Lone Ranger 2013 (which I also loved). I will say, that definitely helped my liking of the film. I liked the film on its own, too, but it also worked as a Gore Verbinski action-adventure.
I still don't understand how it's not more popular.
This movie is incredible
Watched it in cinemas aged 10 didn't think much of it , got blazed last year and watched it again , wow , a masterpiece

Correction at 9:57, while Rango does make up the whole being brothers with rattlesnake jake he in fact isn't making stuff up about the spirit of the west. You may remember that the Armadillo gave a detailed description of the SotW to Rango earlier in the movie which to Rango brushed off as them being delusional and in the camp scene Rango then basically recites everything the armadillo said word for word.
