This is a great movie on its own, but if you watch Wes Andersons other movies you get a whole other level of appreciation for this movie by how seamlessly he moves his style from live action to stop motion, and the movie still looks that good

This is probably my favorite animated movie of all time and I watch it everytime I feel autumn start to roll around. The warmth and comfort in it's style, atmosphere and look bleeds over into it's characters and message. The story itself is affirming in the sense that it's all about rejecting the idea that we're only the thing we spend our whole lives trying to be, that we're so much more than what other people expect us that we have to be. It champions the idea that we already are the people we want to be, not because of possessions or accolades but innate intrinsic characteristics. And I think that's beautiful. Cause it makes that point to the viewer too.
I hope Beastars has a similar look of stop-motion
I was blessed enough to get invited to a test screening for this film. They had almost all the audio but only a little more than half was actually animated at that point, so they filled the rest w/ either concept art or final stage drawings and was still such a magical experience. All I could think abt as a kid leaving the theater was how much I wanted to see it as a finished product, and when I did abt a year later they blew me away. The animation went above and beyond what I pictured in my mind at that test screening and it solidified my love of stop-motion alongside the likes of Coraline, James and the giant peach, and Corpse Bride. May stop-motion animation live on forever!!!

Most of the recording for the voice wouldn't be in a normal recording booth NO instead they would be outside, or in a basement of a house or in a dinning room, etc I just LOVE that and Wes Anderson is my FAVOURITE filmmaker of all time and all the little details he put into his movies is a treat :3

I think it highlights how Bean takes himself soooo seriously, and while his actions do hurt people, it's clear to everyone watching that it's ridiculous and stupid to be so needlessly mean to people.
The visual appeal this movie had on me as a child still holds up whenever I watch it. The look of the food, the crystals underground, the color palette, the foxes glowing, the APPLE JUICE…dear god it’s a visual masterpiece.

Isle of Dogs is also a good stop motion movie, I'm not sure if you have already seen it or covered it but it's more of a darker sad tone as it's about an island of stray dogs trying to survive. I haven't watched it in forever but I think it was a good movie

About the wolf thing: also if u remember throughout the movie Mr.Fox would say that he had a fear of wolves. For instance when Kylie had even just mentioned the word, Mr.Fox would reply in fear,” WOLF??! WHERE??!!” So, him, confronting his fear by giving the wolf a fist bump in the air was actually pretty cool to me.

One thing I wanna mention about the wolf is that throughout the movie, Mr. Fox tenses up whenever a wolf is brought up, such as when Kylie mentions wolves before their first heist. So it’s only fitting that towards the very end of the movie, he has an emotional encounter with one and is no longer afraid of them as he starts crying when seeing its beauty as a wild animal.
Camp is something that’s so bad and so dramatic and the right amount of extra it’s good. It was used by queer people (usually gay men) originally but it’s kinda bled into the mainstream. James Somerton has a really great video on it, would totally recommend it since I can’t really describe it in a tiny little not researched UA-cam comment

So glad pig finall y covered this movie. I remember loving this movie when i was younger, and i love it now, it is just so brilliantly made and alot of care and consideration was put into this film. And the all the shots looks so great and beautiful. Definitely one of top movies in my top 10 movies of all time list
Honestly this movie really fell into obscurity for me, until last year when after binging a bunch of stop motion films (because I’m also a lover of the style) I decided to watch it on a whim and I’m so sad I never had seen it before hand, this movie has so much heart and it truly deserves the praise it has gotten! After watching it I went out and got a dvd copy just so I could add it to my collection of classics! It’s rare to see anyone praise stop motion animation and it makes me so happy to watch ur videos on it, I’m hoping we get more stop motion/ 2D animated movies in the near future, there is truly nothing like them.

This is still one of my all-time favourite animated films. It's practically a crime how underrated it is, because everything about it is just so darn good. Iconic characters, great soundtrack, and the setting... man! Wes Anderson really nailed in bringing a Roald Dahl classic to life.

The whole sad = good movie thing is so true. I watched Memories of Murder with high expectations as an enjoyed of Bong Joon Ho's other work only to come out sad and angry. You can have a film make a great statement, but that's not what many viewers interpret as "greatness".

you might even enjoy isle of the dogs, the animation is amazing and it's almost the same thing as fantastic mr. fox, just with a different story and replace the the foxes with dogs. they actually don't hold back with cussing in that movie though. but they only did like once but still, caught me off guard the first time i watched it.
I know you don’t really review shows on this channel, but you should watch this stop motion show called Moral Orel. It was a comedy that aired on adult swim in the early 2000’s. It talks a lot about some darker themes in life and it gets really serious (even for adult swim’s standers). Episodes are only 10mins each so you won’t have to use up a lot of time on it. I really think this show is worth your time.

Fun fact, some of the shots where the characters are far away or just really tiny actually had such tiny models in real life that they had to be moved with match sticks when animating
not one will ever convince me otherwise in my statement that *stop motion is a form of art on its on* the patience, the delicacy, the accuracy the attention to every single little minuscule detail and in the end is flows so beautifully, I have not yet seen and ugly stop motion scene and I pretty sure I won’t. My admiration for stop motion artists will forever perdure.
You should check out the story behind an unfinished Russian animated film called The Overcoat. Husband and wife use intricately cut paper and do(and then redo) everything by hand, the whole deal. It's interesting, sad, and a bit unsettling. They started in the 1980's and work on it daily.
I always believed that the wolf scene was mister fox waving goodbye to his personified wild side in order for him to return back to his family.
It's 100% the cool biker giving the Weekend Warrior dad a little salute for “stayin’ cool.” They come from different worlds, but they each can appreciate that need for freedom and glory.
The soundtrack to this movie is just straight-up one of the best I've ever heard. Every song knocks it out of the park and I was thrilled back when I put each and every one on my phone

I actually think that Wes Anderson made the film better than the book. I remember loving this movie, and then reading the book. I was really excited as I was a bit of a bookworm when I was young, and loved some of Dahls other work. It was actually really disappointing I'm not going to lie. I remember the ending especially as being such an anticlimax, but not in a good way. I may be biased as it was my favorite movie for a long time. It's probably in my top 10 even now.
I also find it really cool how recognizable Wes's style is. I play a game called Framed which is a bit like wordle but for films and with photos (you get 6 photos from the movie and a guess after each). The other day it was the Grand Budapest Hotel, a movie that I watched once but imo not his best. Within the first photo I got it, and so did my family. The organized nature was so emphatically Wes. Just something I found cool.

Please watch little miss sunshine!!! It's such an underrated Wes Anderson film I feel like nobody I know has seen it and it breaks my heart everytime I watch it the whole film feels like a family reunion if your family is incredibly dysfunctionally happy.
That's because it was directed by Valerie Faris and Jonathan Dayton! It is an amazing, much watch movie though.
I watched this movie shortly after I got my diagnosis for autism, It was hard to accept something that made me "different" especially since I was diagnosed late at the age of 17. I hated how it made me feel and act, how people saw me. But seeing Ash get accepted as being "different" it made me feel okay with my autism. I'm glad this movie exists :)
the scene with the wild black wolf in the end is truly symbolic. There are various different ways you can interpret it. From when I was a child up to now, I have always wanted them to elaborate on such a random yet needed and elegant scene.
this is my dads favorite movie, when it came out he bought five copies on dvd to give to his co workers, we watched it so much that i have it memorized, he has more fantastic mr fox photos in his office than photos of his own children, he has the main movie poster framed and in his office, my dad loves this movie and it is his all time favorite movie, and he always does mr fox's whistle thingy.

This was a childhood favorite of mine, so I'm glad to see you liked it too :) There's one part of this movie I wish you'd mention, though: Mr. Fox's fear of wolves. It represents his fear of embracing his true animal nature. Throughout the movie, he and the rest of the animals devote themselves to emulating human society. However, after Mr. Fox indulges his wild instincts and the animals see that the humans only want to harm them, Mr. Fox encourages them to abandon their imitation of humanity and embrace their respective species. Therefore, after stealing his tail back from Bean (reclaiming his "foxhood") and approaching the wolf that he used to be so scared of, Mr. Fox finally embraces that he is, and will always be, a wild animal.
Basically, reject humanity return to fox.
There's something I just noticed while watching this video, specifically when BP says that Ash isn't good at being an athlete. During the chemistry scene, Ash seems rather in his zone when it came to what he was doing. He might not be good at being an athlete, but he looks to be on the road to being a good chemist. Its good to know Ash has talents of his own even if he's sneaking it right under his own nose.
This and Isle of Dogs are my favourite stop motion movies, I have such a soft spot in my heart for those movies!
One message I understood about this movie, is that you can fix something with the same determination you had to break it.
Even though Mr. Fox desires and ambitions put the whole neighborhood in danger, he uses the exact same things to make them safe again.

Strange that you didn’t mention the last bit of the movie, where it turns out that the supermarket is also owned by those 3 angry farmers. I interpreted it as a message that the story was going to repeat, because the animals continued to steal things and they didn’t actually learn their lesson. Or maybe it was just the “fun unintentional revenge”, nothing more.
The quote from this movie that sticks with me and my husband is "If what I think is happening is happening... it better not be."

Fantastic Mr. Fox holds a special place in my heart for so many reasons. I grew up watching the movie and reading the book so many times I could quote it verbatim. And more recently my high school did a play rendition of Mr. Fox with its own original soundtrack played live. And I had the honour to play Ash who will forever be my favourite character. I watched this video when it first came out and thought it was such a funny coincidence to see you made it about a week or two after I was casted. Now I’m rewatching this a few weeks after my closing night show and really just appreciating how I was able to be apart of bringing such a fantastic (no pun intended) piece to stage.

I saw this movie as a kid on cartoon network. Never knew it was made by Wes until years later. But before i knew it was Wes who made it i kept thinking everytime i see photos of his other films i just thought “this looks like Fantastic Mr Fox”

Love both Fantastic Mr. Fox and Isle of Dogs. They’re the best of all the stop-motion movies I’ve ever seen.
I think I prefer Isle of Dogs to Fantastic Mr. Fox, but only by a very slim margin. It felt like they took everything that worked in Mr. Fox, and just made it better. When people ask for a new, different movie to watch, I almost always recommend Isle of Dogs.
I saw this film when it came out in theaters, years before I knew who Wes Anderson was, and I forgot how much of this film stuck with me. To this day I still do Mr Fox's little whistle thing, which means I've been doing it for more than a decade? Like more than half my entire life. Wild. Powerful movie.

I watched this movie a few months ago so I may not remember right, but I believe Mr fox was afraid of wolves, and commented on that throughout the movie. It represents his fear of the wildness in himself, as the wolf represents wild. When they see it at the end, it shows how he has realized his respect for it, and no longer fears it. It's truly a wonderful movie, I can't believe people so often write it off as a kids film.
If you watch the scene again, you will even glimpse a tiny tear in Foxie Fox's eye, contemplating that wolf.
I used to read the book of fantastic Mr fox all the time as a kid as well as all the others R D did, Mr and Mrs twit was great I wish they made that a stop motion movie too
I just re-watched this movie a few weeks ago with 9 year old sister and it was just as good as I remembered. Thanks for reviewing this one, I love stop motion movies so much. I don't know what it is, but I think it's partly the creativity, thought, and effort put into every single frame that makes those movies so special.

Watched this movie many times in school and even college during my media course. I'm not the type of person to go "I dislike this well liked popular thing" but it never clicked with me? And I bloody adore stop motion. Like I can appreciate and see everyone's reasoning when it's explained but something in me just gets really bored and doesn't vibe with it unfortunately.

This has always been one of my favorite movies! And I’m so glad you loved it!!Kristopherson is one of my favorite characters, his and ash’s (I hope I spelled both of their names correctly) relationship is very fun to watch as it reminds me a lot of how my sisters and I’d relationship and how it grew.

I still love and praise this movie whenever I can. I grew up with renting it on redbox or any other video store that still existed back when it came out. I almost had it memorized word for word. From the animation (which I was used to stop motion thanks to Chicken Run) to the voice cast (which ironically just recently realized that the coach was Owen Wilson, despite being raised on Cars and Night At The Museum). And as someone who grew up with other Dahl adaptions and did read Fantastic Mr. Fox in Elementary School, enjoyed the hell out of it. I still quote a lot of the movie to this day and my first introduction to Wes as a director.

I was really impressed when you spoke about those little quirks with the characters at the end. It's not something a lot of people would cover because it's so small but I'm just really happy you did because throughout the video I was doing Mr fox's whistles and clicks. 10/10 would recommend

I’m gonna be honest, as a kid I did not like this movie at all, I watched it several times but it’s probably been over a decade since I’ve watched it so maybe I’ll watch it again soon to see if my opinion has changed
(The reason I disliked it as a kid was cause it just made me uncomfortable idk how to describe it better than that, it was also extremely memorable and I do sometimes think about it randomly so clearly it’s done something right in that regard)
That's one gripe I have with it. It's meant to be an adaption of a children's book (yes I know Dahl includes a lot of darker themes, but Fox is one of his more light-hearted books), but I don't think this film really appeals to children.
Loved this movie as a kid and when you covered it a year ago i went and rewatched it and loved it then; And Shadow showing up in this vid just made me die of laughter, i often caught your streams On BionicPIGtv under the name of "Cito" and he always has ways of causing some sort of background choas, or just straight up being on you sometimes too in videos, and well, its just hard not to love a cute lil ball of chaos now isnt it? So after learning what happened recently from the Alien Bacon Podcast (im sorry if theres been prior discussion as ive been kinda absent for a long time) ive been rewatching a lot of these old vids and just appreciating that cute lil birb. Much love Pig. You're an amazing and patient man. Also rewatching this movie again a year later is pretty wild, a lot happened this past year, so its just kinda cool to revisit as you cover it. This and Isle of Dogs also directed by Wes are really good movies. Stop motion is such a cool art and combined with Anderson's unique filming just makes it so much better.
A great Stopmotion show to do a video on is Robot Chicken on Adult Swim. It was created by Seth Green (Chris from family guy) so has a lot of great recurring guest voices, and it combines making their own stopmotion creations with using well known pop culture toys from the 90s and 2000s and has very clever humor.
He referenced robot chicken before, and it would be impossible to summarize it because each episode is a different story
If you're a fan of stop motion, have you ever seen the works of Cosgrove-Hall? Their Winds in the Willow TV series was a classic for me growing up. Elaborate costumes on the characters, cozy and lived-in sets. All very charming. They also made this movie called 'The Fool of the World and the Flying Ship' based on a Russian legend. Hard to find but it's a fun time.

One scene that I really liked from this movie that wasn't mentioned was the scene where Ash and Kristofferson share a room and Ash tries to make Kristofferson sleep on the floor under his trainset. Ash hadn't been nice to him at all before then because of his jealously, but when Kristofferson starts to cry from homesickness, Ash just silently climbs down from his bed and switches on his trainset and the two of them just silently watch it go around in circles while Kristofferson calms down again.
From then on, Kristofferson is no longer just the thing Ash wishes he could be, he's a person. Ash still is still jealous of him, but he stops being so mean to him, until eventually at the end of the movie they could be considered friends. I like that this is the scene that started that.

I saw this in theaters when it came out, it’s not my favorite but I do love it. Wes Anderson films very much have A Look to them, regardless of if they’re animated or live action. My personal favorite is “The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou”.
