    Just wanted clarify since I've been getting a few comments saying that I copied Cosmodore's idea, that I had worked on this video for almost a month and released it just two days after Cosmodore uploaded his (which I loved by the way!). I honestly wish I could of written, recorded, and edited a video like this in less than two days but alas, it takes me forever to do anything. Its an honest and spooky case of parallel creation. With that out of the way, thanks for watching my video! I hope you enjoyed it. I figured I’d upload something more fun and light hearted for the beginning of summer. It took me longer to make than I originally intended and to make a long story short, that’s because I’m currently undergoing a major change in my lifestyle that is very intensive and time consuming which has and unfortunately will continue to add delays to the upload schedule but I promise it’s temporary and that uploads will be consistent and frequent once things are back on track. I can’t tell you how excited I am for the next video, it’ll be a great one. Anyway, have you seen Rango? If so, what did you think? If not, go watch it, it’s amazing!

      When I first saw Rango, I was about 8 or 9, and it wasn't until just last year that I watched it again with my family and realized, "Holy cow this is an awesome movie." Thanks for making such a great video about it.
      By the way, love your playlists on Spotify. I've found so many amazing Christian and secular songs through you, it's led me to discovering great music. Wish you well with your UA-cam channel, I'm excited to see your next video.

    What I also love about specifically Rango’s character is that despite how strange and ridiculous he is, there are many moments before his encounter with the spirit of the west where he proves he is a hero already. He was putting pieces together of the water mystery as well as the idea of following the pipes or putting out the torches to find the exit. His own self doubt and fear held him back but when it came to it, he was smart and truly came to respect the townspeople and really want to help them. I think that’s part of what sells the final encounter with rattle snake jake; he already had it in him, he just had to realize it’s not about him or how people viewed him, it’s about what needed to be done like you said.

    Something that always got me, even as a kid, was the differing scales of the characters. Some animals depicted would be way larger than the others, but in the story are actually very small. For example, the wild boar blacksmith is the same size as all the other townsfolk, including a spider and a tortoise. Boars get pretty friggin big! But then there are characters who are truly massive, and they all tend to play critical parts in the story. The Armadillo, the Hawk, and Rattlesnake Jake. I wonder if there’s some symbolism to that.

    • @sirmongrel511
      @sirmongrel511 Рік тому +139

      that and some props were small (like their guns) while others were human scale (like the town clock being a pocket watch). It was odd but honestly I think the film is begging to be watched on shrooms or something.

      Perhaps its the impact they had on Rango's story? Rattlesnake Jake and the Hawk were his most influential obstacles, while the Armadillo and even the Spirit of the West were his most influential guides. This is only the first thing that comes to mind. It could also be that they wanted the Hawk and Jake to be frighteningly bigger than Rango.

    • @SubUwU509

      This movie is meta af
      Think about it, the premise is that of a lizard in an aquarium being transported trough life
      Plastic wife, fake skies, mundane day to day so much so he invents himself a life
      He is longing for something more to happen, for his glass bubbles to shatter (the truman show)
      As he wished it, it happens
      Is it in his mind or a true event?
      And heres where it gets me hard:
      Is it simply another one of his plays or did it really happens and it is about him coming to terms with all his fears, flaws, hopes and regrets?
      So i'd say that some things are important like time, foes, the fact he said he killed them brothers with one bullet but yet he defeated Jake with one too, but without even firing it
      There is so much
      The paradise at the end when he finaly crossed that road
      An allegory for paradise or finaly being free after having bountiful things kept away from him since birth?
      He is the working class stuck in the american dream who got transformed from fighting for his ideals, finding a community and helping it in adversity, etc...
      I have so many point of views on this movie and its why i find it fascinating
      In the end i read it as a classic: just be yourself and live the life you aspire to
      /don't lie to yourself and wait for the glass to break

      as a kid many out there ideas and movies like rango can seem odd but as an adult learning the backstory of the film like how it possibly is just a fantasy dream world rango has created to be his purgatory in the afterlife in his head that we see and he perceived is real as he is actually possibly most likely but not definitively dead in reality is brilliant ways to look at this as a 22 year old and realize I can only hope to create a medium this interesting and have its origins be that unique...like to me it makes the film twice as good knowing that was most likely the idea behind the film existing even if the studio wont actually allow them to come out and say it its nice to think about and see the movie originally was made with that context even if it was sold as a kids film for merch sales and commercial appeal thats way deeper then a western parody you know what I mean?..its deeper than that...thats why its so abstract and thus good cause the original idea wasn't just simple to make a kids movie and make money..that would of ruined the film if they just wanted a funny kids western....the amount of effort put into the movie overall proves there was more motivation behind the film then just lets make a kids film ...it has to be more than that which is why they handled it with such care...thats what art is about..thats how we get modern masterpieces like rango and not crap all the time like norm of the north...you get it?..theres effort put into the idea of the actual point of the film not just what message music and scenes and voices can we jam into the film..when its just a paycheck made by a studio with no soul who don't want to put effort into crafting its story you feel it..when its art you also feel it...rango was a legit idea and passion project with real love put into its creation because of what most likely it wanted to be about even if it didnt come out and say it is about this it has that as its backing for us to decide if its true or not and thats cool to leave us ambiguous as well ...thats the media at its best when it gives you 2 solutions and neither may be wrong or right...you decide...we wont be given the answers...I love that

    Not to mention, like you brought up with the owl turning his head around, or Rango not being able to camouflage, the film uses the fact that it's characters are animals in unique ways that add to who the characters are and what role they are able to play in the story. Sometimes in anthropomorphic animal films these days, the narrative forgets that it's dealing with animals and writes all the characters like they are humans. To the point where you could replace the animal cast with a human cast and still have the same story (case and point, "Sing").
    Don't get me wrong, I love the movie Zootopia, and I found its narrative of using predator and prey to symbolize racial inequality, and foxes and rabbits to symbolize societal stereotypes, to be a really clever tactic for the film's thematic storytelling. I just wish that film gave us more scenes like the one where Judy is using her bunny athleticism to give out parking tickets. It's great when you can see the writers playing around with the idea of "how would this animal use their natural talents to solve this problem?"
    That same question about animal characteristics being used to shape the characters, their actions, and how they go through situations, is a big part of the movie Rango. Which is another reason why that movie is so great.
    I just wished more filmmakers utilized that same potention when writing for their "talking animal" movies.

      I was already a big fan of Wolves of the Beyond when that movie came out, at that point I didn't even know about the series before Faolan. Loved that movie when I watched it, though I think it got a lot of just criticism about trying to cram a bunch of books into one. If Marvel and Harry Potter taught us anything, ridiculously long series of movies are seriously profitable.

      I think most people are turned off at this because it's not really a film for kids. I watched this back when I'm still young and being stupid that I am I don't get what's happening most of the time. And the setting at first look is kinda bland, combined that with the dull look compared to other animated films which is full of color. But as I get older, I'm starting to appreciate it more. I won't go in detail on why because I'm not entirely sure but this film is getting good as the years passed. Maybe it's because we rarely see mature animated films anymore?

    I think the problem with most "talking animal" movies is that they don't use the genre in any way. Most of these movies can have every character replaced with humans and it won't make much of a difference. Zootopia wouldn't really work in its story or spectacle with humans. Rango would probably be the same in its story, but the use of animals gives some really interesting imagery with things like the pipe that Rango first takes shelter in, everyone lining up in front of the water pump, or all of the water being stored in bottles.

    • @Chrinik
      @Chrinik 3 роки тому +40

      While I do agree to some extend, Zootopias story does work without the animal part. Sure, it's a huge part of the aesthetic, but that's visual...the story itself is essentially a fish out of water, racism and prejudice story if tweaked, can and I think has been told with humans before. Just replace feralism with some sort of drug induced rage and predators with some sort of racial analog and you are golden.
      Sort of the same with Rango.
      What story doesn't work would be things like animals of farthing wood, Plague Dogs, secret of NIHM or Felidae, as the characters being animals is a huge point of the plot in the first place.

The reason the action looks so good is because industrial light and magic made this. It is their only feature length animation film. Normally they do special affects for major block busters.
