Me too. No,live radio, just 50 word round summaries after each round. I remember something to the effect of, “In one of the greatest upsets in sports history....” We went wild.
I have never thought of this as a great fight. A great victory for Ali, sure. Foreman was a very scary guy in the early rounds. Had some force in his punches up to Round 5 and Ali showed good defence and a great chin. After that, Foreman was done - no snap, no force, mostly just pawing at Ali, or swinging wildly and would nearly fall down from exhaustion. He was gassed after 5. Ali smartly just waited to pick him off.
The sound coming from the crowd when Foreman falls always brings tears to my eyes, the volume, the excitement, it speaks to how crazy a moment it was at the time. I've heard some loud crowds before but a crowd so loud it drowns out the commentators voice? It speaks to the legend.
I love to watch Michael Tal play chess and Mohammed Ali fight Foreman almost twice every year since the rumble in the jungle.....I do not know the connection between the two...but they both thrill me even in my old age
Such "highlight videos" do no justice at all to the quite incredible boxing prowess of Muhammed Ali. For almost eight rounds he completely outboxed (and outfoxed) one of the most lethal and devastating fighters of his generation. That not only takes quite phenomenal endurance and remarkable physical toughness, it also takes outstanding boxing nous. I really recommend all those who're interested in boxing, and in this bout in particular, to watch the whole fight from beginning to end and to and see just why Muhammed Ali (peace be upon him) is rightly regarded as the very best in the world. George Foreman in this fight was drugged, when they gave him water it contained something that made him lose, do not believe everything they tell you and it seems, the reality is different.
@@jameshargrove9555 Foreman foght this fight like he always did in his youth. Coming straight forward, flailing and pushing. He had no art. Ok he was drugged. How do explain that fact that Ali survived some of the most vicious shots a fighter EVER took, and then won by a knock out?

Ali took some serious punishment here for an extended period of time and kept coming back. I was 7 years old and watched this with my Dad. You can see Ali grabbing Foreman and pulling him in to taunt him. Foreman would later say, "he was telling me my punches werent hurting him and that I hit like his grandma". Ali's combinations were epic. Foreman was a warrior. Ali became Champion yet again. This is by far, the most exciting, greatest boxing match in the history of boxing.
When he broke camp in Deer Lake and before he left for Africa Ali paid a visit to Cus D'Amato, who told him "Foreman is bully. Your first punches have to be thrown with bad intentions.". Bad intentions. I still get chills. Àli later told his handlers "Cus is right", and while many feared for his actual life and most assumed he would have to dance just to survive, there he is throwing right hand leads in the opening round, all of them right on the button. Foreman was enraged and the rest is magnificient history. I was a senior in college at that time and I will never forget watching the local 10 o'clock news with my roommates. When the announcer said, "and in sports in Zaire Africa Muhammad Ali knocked out..." and the apartment exploded in pure joy. What a man.
I love 2:05 in round 2, Foreman pawing and Ali gives him those two good rights, this fight was so big and we couldn't know the outcome until the next morning.
Rope-a-dope 😂😂 Ali won this with his brain instead of Brawn. Foreman barely damaged Ali's head , Ali waited and waited and waited, kept smashing Foreman's head, and the heavy swings took a lot out of Foreman. More impressive than Ali's approach and execution was how he took on so many heavy body blows.
Ali was using his lower arms much more effectively to defend his torso than anyone else I've seen. He seemed to get good visual info by peaking between the gloves and he even would occasionally pop an elbow into the flying fists.
He did take a few head shots that would have put most fighters on the canvas or knocked them out cold but not ali / his heart held him up be he really was never the same after that fight / he had 1 fight left in him against frazier which if people remember he was gonna quit / said it was the closest thing to death he had ever experienced / after that he definately slipped a lot
Believe me Foreman did land a few heavy heads shots not a lot but a few haymakers got in / 1 close to the end of round 7 an uppercut / Ali went back to his corner and Dundee told him he lifted you off the canvas a couple inches / Ali himself said quote he put me on queer street for a second but Foreman didn't know he hurt him / next round Ali knocked him out beautifully timed shots / but yes he took body shots that would have crumpled most fighters/ this fight established Ali as the greatest but might have also caused a little brain damage also / with the help of Frazier/Norton/ Shavers and a few others/ but the fight made Ali a living living legend now deceased( God bless his soul )/ Ali did more for his race than any 1 before or since / no 1 comes close a great humanitarian/ a great fighter / a great person

What can ya say ali said it ,( I'm a bad man ) ali was the greatest period much more than a great fighter a great humanitarian
@@richardhensley3388
No.
Ali was extremely lucky that foreman fought stupidly that night.
ALI WAS doing what ali does adjusting to the strengths of the fighter Foreman fell for it Ali took some great punches but float loke a butterfly sting loke a bee he did and he was in extremely great shape his jabs and right crosses were as fast as when he was in his prime being in great shape and being able to take a great punch is not being lucky / and avoiding a lot of Haymarkers because of great reflexes is not being lucky
@@richardhensley3388
You didn't understand what I said.
Yes, Ali fought great, his strategy was perfect against foreman.
BUT that's because foreman fought stupidly.
SO YES, I AM 100% CORRECT.
Ali was extremely lucky that foreman fought stupidly that night in Zaire.
Otherwise, had foreman fought smart, he would've killed Ali.
Understand now?
@@richardhensley3388
Looks like you're having some trouble understanding.
Yes, Ali's strategy was brilliant.
BUT that's because foreman fought stupidly that night in Zaire.
Ali was extremely lucky that foreman fought stupidly.
That statement is 100% accurate.
You know why it's accurate?
Because several months later, Ali was taken the distance by a slow white nobody, chuck Wepner.
A slow white bum named Chuck Wepner took Ali the distance. So yes, Ali was extremely lucky that foreman fought stupidly that night in Zaire.
And if you had a brain, you'd understand that fact.
The man who never gave in!!!
Foreman in his youth was the meanest, hard hitting boxer ever…no doubts, he was an absolute maniac
The best match of all times
How do you beat a fighter on the ropes? Truly amazing. I know Forman was like after the fight "i hit him 1000 times and he never drop, i hit others 200 times and they're knocked out how is that possible".
Ali was setting a trap through the rounds, all the while leaving enough in the tank for the finish. Masterful.
Ali was a force to be recon with RIP CHAMP!!!
Alì: tecnica enorme e ,nello specifico, tattica formidale! Immenso
It was so shocking when he knocked him out. I was on campus and everyone was going crazy!
Lmao sure
Me too. No,live radio, just 50 word round summaries after each round. I remember something to the effect of, “In one of the greatest upsets in sports history....” We went wild.
Not everyone mate, maybe a good few people but not everyone.
Best fight ever it was almost to the death they were that tired,, rope-ba-dope baby
Ali was not just a boxer but influencer for coming generations, how to be best version of your self.
50 years ago on 20 Oct 2024. FIFTY. Wow. Muhammed Ali The Great.
From newzealand aotearoa
There’s never been a faster, more lethal right hand lead in human history than that of Ali. Speed + Reach + Accuracy = Power.
Floyd
@@mrloski2915 Floyd is #2 for sure, but he didn’t have the reach advantage over his opponents to the extent Ali did.
The Best!
I see it this picture single every day.
Very nice editing......great highlights
The great man has done it! Amazing.
never be another r.i.p champ. even in slow motion hes still the fastest heavyweight of all time
I love to watch Michael Tal play chess and Mohammed Ali fight Foreman almost twice every year since the rumble in the jungle.....I do not know the connection between the two...but they both thrill me even in my old age
Ali was so amazing
Idk much about boxing but that 5th round was crazy!
I didn't know where all the punches come from, they so fast. George Foreman
MsG
He was definitely the very best at getting pounded in the head!
George Foreman in this fight was drugged, when they gave him water it contained something that made him lose, do not believe everything they tell you and it seems, the reality is different.
Randy Barnes is a loser that is all.
@@jameshargrove9555 Foreman foght this fight like he always did in his youth. Coming straight forward, flailing and pushing. He had no art. Ok he was drugged. How do explain that fact that Ali survived some of the most vicious shots a fighter EVER took, and then won by a knock out?
@@jameshargrove9555 bullshit, you are the only person i ever heard that from and i have been in boxing all my life, amateur and there was never any accusations of drugging. Think your the one on drugs, foreman never even said it. He was beaten by the best ever, .
This is by far, the most exciting, greatest
boxing match in the history of boxing.
Monumental Luta. Fantástica....para mim a Melhor Luta da História do Box Mundial ❤
WOW!!! abd again; WOW!!! OK, one more; WOW!!! Great highlight editing!
God bless yah muhammed ali ... you never been selfish... you never been ...
Did you know he’s talking to George when he’s in a lock with him saying come on I thought you’d be better than this
Legends, both of them!
Ali waited until Foreman tired.
For sure
Ali tired him then swallowed him 🤣
When he broke camp in Deer Lake and before he left for Africa Ali paid a visit to Cus D'Amato, who told him "Foreman is bully. What a man.
Damn Foreman is a beast. Ali is greatness, but Foreman attacks without fear.
Which was his downfall in this match he should’ve feared what would happen if he got exhausted but Ali wasn’t lol
Those blows would knock most boxer out.
@@richardhensley3388 if you think those head shots wouldve knocked out any heavyweight boxer of the upper class then youre not really that much into boxing
The best boxing match I ever watched
Ali is something else
Awesome fight. Greetings Jimmy...Awesome video. Thumbs up.
We will rarely see fights like this now. Great fighters are rarely fighting each other.
How Ali survived all of those Foreman thunder claps is insane. Or maybe this was where the damage was done.
Ali took mostly body shots in this fight. Of all fighters Ali faced, probably a good thing, since Foreman threw boulders.
But as they say, styles make fights. And Frazier knew how to get to Ali's head...literally.
@@funkster007 Ken Norton said Ali was very strong and that hitting him in the arms or the body was like hitting a piece of cement.
No cropping, no messed up aspect ratio for these clips - nice
