God bless George Foreman. The man is a wall. And always one of my favorite people. Such a kind human being. Wish Tommy Morrison was still around too. So sad he left this world far too soon.
Foreman is one scary man to fight against. At one point he took a 3 power shot combo in sucession and kept walking forward like the Juggernaught he is. He doesn't give you any breaks. He seems unphased by 99% of all punches. The fact that I can hit him in the chin with all my strength, and he will continue to approach me is the stuff of nightmares!
That was Frazier's downfall. He was a relentless offensive boxer, but didn't know when to back off. Big George was just too big and powerful to go toe to toe with.
Against Holyfield, George took seventeen straight uppercuts at one point taking one stagger step forward, then shaking the entire barrage off and continuing forward. Like a much bigger version of Joe Frazier and nearly as tough.
YOU HAVE TO ADMIT THAT GEORGE FOREMAN BEING 44 YEARS OLD WAS STILL ABLE TO TAKE A PUNCH AND HIS JAW WAS LIKE METAL. HE WAS TRULY ONE OF THE GREATEST BOXERS WHO EVER ENTERED THE BOXING RING AND THE WORLD.
I remember seeing this fight live all those years ago. I was surprised by how well Morrison moved. Clearly he and his corner knew not to make the mistake of standing in front of Big George and thinking Tommy would knock him out if he just landed one or two of his famous big left hooks. My goodness Big George had an incredible chin! Another thing I remember, which is not shown clearly in this highlights video, is that at one point late in the fight, George had Tommy stunned and Tommy was there for the taking and George didn’t pull the trigger. He was asked about that in the after-fight interview and said he deliberately didn’t knock Tommy out at that point because he saw him as a young man with a great future, or something like that. It was surprising. It made me worried a bit for Foreman because someone who bet on him and lost a pile of money might have been rather upset, and done something about it. There was a later fight for Foreman, against Shannon Briggs. I think it was his last fight. Foreman clearly won, but the judges gave the win to Briggs. Foreman was remarkably gracious, right after the fight, saying the judges had spoken and congratulating Briggs and telling him to be a good champion and make sure to avoid drugs and so on. And I remember Briggs, who looked very surprised at having been awarded the win, was responding with “yes sir, yes sir” and being very deferential to Foreman. Foreman was, and is, an amazing human being in many ways.
I was 12 in 1993, and I most certainly miss the times before technology consumed everyone, times when we all knew what a woman is. Times when pseudo celebrity douchebags didn't box 58yr olds.
Foreman (at this age) looked like he couldn’t be bothered with anything resembling actual boxing technique. But with a chin like that it didn’t really matter - he just walked through every shot. Amazing
@Killa Cam88 Would love to have seen Foreman fighting against Ernie Shavers and Mike Weaver. Shavers was 1 of the hardest punching heavyweights in history.
Them hits affected George, though. Look at George's body and the look on his face?? Tommy's punches looked to almost spin George's whole body like a spinning top. Foreman is just an elite tough guy, if he was any less, he'd be laying on that floor in this match.
@@killingheros3554 I mean he’s only been beaten by legends if ya think about it and yea tommy especially at that time wasn’t known for his stamina that’s what cost him in the Mercer fight
@@psychology-professionallys3315 Clearly Foreman did have stamina, in all these comeback fights in the 80s and 90s he is fighting in every round, despite taking a lot of shots. In this fight, just as against Holyfield (who hit him with everything he had), Foreman was still punching and landing in the 12th.
What Foreman did in his 40s was just miraculous. I remember considering him a bit of a joke, but looking back now he certainly wasn't. Here's a guy who won Olympic gold a year after he took up the sport and then he's going 12 grueling rounds with 20 year old guys in his mid 40s. Hats off to you Big George. I miss Lampley's last round pre-planned dramatic summations. I always wondered how long he took preparing those ("It was 25 years ago that George Foreman was introduced to the public as an Olympic hero...")
Two things that always amazed me with foreman after his return was his damn steel chin and cardio. How tf is this possible? Tommy is one of the hardest strikers in boxing history and he hit foreman clean so many times, But it barely grazed him. And look after the fight, foreman was still breathing trough his nose after 12 rounds of war at age 43, its unheard of. Best chin and cardio in combat sports history.

At any moment this could have been over for Morrison. He fought the most disciplined fight he ever fought. This is a massively underrated win for him. Especially after seeing what happened to Michael Moorer.
Foreman is absolutely fun to watch, more so in his bald years of boxing. The way his guard is, his calm demeanor despite always seeming to land less punches, him appearing to walk through hard punches, and you could see how he stunned everyone whom he connected with his right. Makes you realize how much trouble Frazier was in, in their first fight.

the incredible fact of this meeting is that in 1993 Tommi Morrison was 24 years old, Big George 44. Yes, 44 years old. This tells us so much about George Foreman's physicality, which is incredible.
This is why the 90's overrall are overrated. 40+ Holmes & Foreman cleaned up the division. Any contender in the 90's would not even be in top 20 in the 70's.
There was a decisive gallantry exchanged by both Tommy and George. Each one seemed a gentleman; that is, excusing the low blows by George. My guess is that George knew he'd take a point hit for the low blow but he knew he needed something to "scare" Tommy a bit as they went forward. After that initial low blast, Tommy did noticeably tend backward. Great exchange by two wonderful gents.
The amount of work it took to beat Big George is unfathomable for most people. Tommy was sucking in air in the last few rounds. But he fought almost twice as many fights as Marciano, he fought tougher opponents, and fought to the age of 48. Before I started watching I checked the date of the fight, found that Foreman was 44 and thought "Shit, this is going to be Foreman just barely holding on, isn't it?" Tommy was a beast, but his chin often didn't hold up. That is the reason he lost so many critical rights like the one against Mercer and Lewis (Although not many boxers could have survived Lewis's shots). What a sad ending Tommy had. Lesson for everyone that "friends" can be more deadly than enemies
we can blame the friends. but he is the one who took the drugs and booze and wanted to party all night with the girls...that does not work well togetehr with a boxing career let alone his health.
i see some great comments here. yours is price-less. i think this meeting was very special and the lives of the two men have brought out more depth in the comments. god bless.
God bless George Foreman. The man is a wall. And always one of my favorite people. Such a kind human being. Wish Tommy Morrison was still around too. So sad he left this world far too soon.
Yeah, Foreman is folksy cool. But someone should have shut his water off a long time ago.....lol
Yeah. Agree with you there mate. Tommy was a great guy and a great boxer. Died way too soon
The fact that this went the distance was amazing even a past his prime Foreman was still a monster with incredible power.
Two great champions, one left us way too soon.R.I.P. Tommy.🥊🥊
Big George was
just too big and powerful to go toe to toe with.
juggernaut….great word choice!
@@funkster007 Right 🤣👍.
Against Holyfield, George took seventeen straight uppercuts at one point taking one stagger step forward, then shaking the entire barrage off and continuing forward. Like a much bigger version of Joe Frazier and nearly as tough.
haha, Nightmare George Foreman! i think a great comment on George's comeback career.
Except when he fought Ali.

Rumble in the Jungle was a classic!
If Tommy had fought the way he usually did in this fight, George probably would have killed him.
Steroids held Tommy up
I absolutely agree. A truly great man.
Which makes it all the more amazing how Ali defeated him in his prime.
@@harveyhester2113 you say that like the other 99% of the division weren’t on gear either.

Two things that always amazed me with foreman after his return was his damn steel chin and cardio. How tf is this possible? And look after the fight, foreman was still breathing trough his nose after 12 rounds of war at age 43, its unheard of. Best chin and cardio in combat sports history.
Absolutely... and without question, you are right about that..!
Yeah comeback Foreman was insane. He was hit with hundreds of shots flush on the chin by the hardest hitters in the world and never even went down once.

One thing is for sure .. Tommy had guts ..very sad ending although for his life story
Choices in life came back to haunt him!
I wonder how different it would've been if someone had stopped him in the middle of his partying and helped him get with the right crowd of people.

Two of my favorites. George is the ultimate sportsman. I met him once and he is pretty amazing.
Tommy Morrison was a strong and courageous fighter. I miss him

Tommy hit hard, and George’s head never moved when it got hit. Amazing neck strength in that guy.
Foreman often threw low blows. I don't think deliberately. He was just wild with his punches sometimes.
Imo Foreman is the best boxer or all time... His longevity proves it
Great respect to both fighters. Foreman's jab would knock out an average man.
The amount of work it took to beat Big George is unfathomable for most people. Tommy was sucking in air in the last few rounds.
