@@Stinkyremy Only minor ones (like victim undamaged after falling from the roof), according to video. Best free running and paragliding mechanics GMan has ever seen in gaming.
Steel Series makes some darn good equipment. I am not sponsored or anything to say this, its just after trying everything out there, I settled on Steel Series for my keyboards on all my computers. The rest of their merch is top notch too.
@@Stinkyremy None of such things. Those I mentioned above plus certain not exactly statisfying attack combos would be main complaints. Also, GM warned upfront about the game being a looong campaign and not exactly a multi-replayable adventure. At least there are some forks in the story however, possibly resulting in completely different gaming experiences depending on which faction Aiden picks down the road.
I hope the game's gonna be fun to play, it does look like that, some of the stuff Gman said really bothered me about how he explained some stuff and I'm afraid this game ain't that good.
Fun fact: one of the supporting characters in this game (the guy with the scar and high top fade) actually created parkour and popularized it by starring in two French action films that utilizes parkour (the district b-12 series I think)
District B-13** And that movie is fuckin sick. Bro i was 2 when that shit released in 2004 my folks got it on DVD and i grew up watching that same movie ALOT lol...... shit never got old.
This game looks like it's using something like that sharpen mode in the options of Deus Ex Mankind Divided. Sort of like the edges are being enhanced after the fact or something. Either way though, I'm stoked to play it. The first one surprised me with how much I got into it.
This may be coming from DLSS or FSR upscaling options. Especially DLSS has tendency to be oversharpend when it's not implemented correctly, like in RDR2 or God of War (they patched it for the latter, fortunately, and included DLSS Sharpness slider in last update).
You're watching captured video that has been recompressed by youtube. I never put too much emphasis on what I see on youtube quality wise, be it video or audio.
It's always good when a game review compares the time it takes to beat the game to how long it takes to walk from Warsaw to Madrid, it really helps with decision making
@@NotSomeOrdinaryGuy Yeah. He's kind of a daredevil. He was actually sponsored by Red Bull back in the day for a couple years in dirt bike racing. This was back when Red Bull was still pretty small of a company (I wanna say 1997-2000).
I honestly had that happen to me on SEVERAL occasions. Idk man. This game had more bugs, glitches, and AI problems than my playthru of Cyberpunk 2077, and I loved the first Dying Light. This one just doesn't hit the same.
@@DudeMcGuybro Cyberpunk had a 100x worse launch than this and is still extremely unoptimized and bugged to this day. Hell they still don't have an NG+ even after a year and a half. I can agree that the second game isn't as good as the first, but I feel like its unfair to compare that in terms of content because DL1 had 7 years of polishing and constant updates with tweaks being added. DL2 just needs time to actually catch up in content, and I personally think the gameplay mechanics are far superior to the original game. Small QoL changes are needed (gore, physics, etc) but other than that I really don't see too much of a problem with gameplay mechanics.
@@MrRobot-jb5tl I get this game wasn't going to be the first again in terms of story, the way it felt, etc. but straight up I'm talking about falling thru the floor, zombies halfway in a wall, items you can't pick up because they glitch into walls, etc. Had entire missions go on fail loops until a patch came out, and I had none of these issue on PC with Cyberpunk, yet Cyberpunk got shit on because it was "buggy on release", which is hilarious, because this game is every bit as worse with the bugs. The content itself was ok, I felt like there weren't a lot of side quests/missions to fill in gaps in the world. Also worth mentioning, I didn't play any of the Dying Light 1 DLC.
I think one of my bigger issues with this game is the threat of the dead compared to the first game. It could just be because I got better at evading them. But the feeling of seeing volatiles roam around the streets AND EVEN the rooftops, felt more intense than walking passed howlers. Don't get me wrong, nighttime was still threatening, but seriously, dying light 1 made the infection alot more threatening than 2. Still game of the year for me.
Yeah the night time wasn’t as challenging i thought. Part of it was the infected were easy to kill. Maybe it was due to the AI that it was so easy to pull off
@@exodustimes4266 They literally said they made a mistake with nighttime in the first game and the constantly fleet of constant roaming volatiles really turned players off and they mostly just skipped to morning...There was ZERO reason to have them constantly roaming in the numbers they were combined with their only attack was pouncing on you and if one saw you 10 showed up. Its zombies not terminators, there is no universe where its "hard" to kill a zombie.
I think that with how big the map is and how much stuff you actually have to do at night you probably wouldn't want the threat to be too high, it's okay if the activities are more sparse, but there's a shit ton to do in the massive open world at night and you don't want it to be too butt clenching all the time. I understand how people feel tho
I think the real problem is how u traverse the city, not the abscence of volatiles. Movement speed is too fast, there is no contact with infected because you are always on the rooftops, and the glider made it all even less scary. You could just skip most of the map, and the only time there was a little bit of danger was when you had to get down to complete a mission. In dying light 1, you were in constant danger not only when you arrived at the mission, but also on the way there. Seeing volatiles is too rare in dying light 2 as well, I only saw them in the tv antenna mission and in the last mission, and even those times you didn't have to fight any volatile, you could just sneak past them easily.
@@lutherheggs451 Thats kinda the issue though, there was an actual threat during nighttime in dl1. In dl2 it's not as threatening. Yeah sure they could've turned down the number of volatiles roaming but still. The volatiles is what made night time so terrifying.
Please do never forget that this game was made by Techland, remember that they really put heart into fixing and also adding more content into the first game, much of it also pretty much for free. Not much time has passed since it's release and they are going to fix things, and not leave it a unfinished games left to die out like Back 4 Blood.
@@LuigiGamesful I have played it On one side it was literally unplayable, way to hard difficulties with just mutations spammed at you, many problems like no clear difference between certain varying mutations, negative card effects being way to high, gun balancing, the characters being a pop culture standard without own personality (Holly - Harley Quinn e.g.) The list goes on, even though they have tried to fix everything until now, they are still not done You can try it for yourself it should be below 10€ They implemented offline gameplay recently 😂
If its possible to New Game+ the story to take different routs without having to upgrade all your skills again, I could see myself returning sometime in the future just like I returned to DL1 so many times. This review was great. I feel like my expectations have been leveled a bit. I was hoping for GoTY material but instead just looks like something I personally will really enjoy and others just won't get it and thats fine
@James Harden's free throw attempts and that is why you do not fire chris avellone, he is such a great writer. Only if they didnt fire him it would probably be a 10/10
Gman talking about how he kills the virals as violently as possible because they're annoying Me with the first game: mashed the attack button on a dead viral over and over for about 20 times, sometimes with just my fists to crush their skull underneath my sheer wrath and hatred of them. Even a dental record wouldn't be possible with them once I was done with them.
About the combat upgrade system; I actually retstarted DL1 a number a times in order to feel that grounded feeling of not having those crazy special attacks. The start of Dying Light 1 when you have no special moves & a table leg that breaks off of the first enemy you hit; Thats as real feeling as it gets haha.
Yeah, I remember having to kick zombies into nailboards and stuff to even kill them at the start was crazy xD I do appreciate it though if a game lets you feel weak at the start and you end up with a glorious set of combat skills. From what I can tell from the review, adding a new game + mode to the game and a hardcore mode of some kind where attacks cost double the stanima or something could eliminate the biggest flaws I see in the game.
@@sandman4663 i mean maybe a table leg from america idk about the durability of a a table leg from a city like harran lol. DL2 is great tho been playing all night.
I also reset the game a number of times. Because the game sometimes got a little boring when you could fight 30 zombies and a few volatiles with out much effort. I really enjoyed that feeling of more than 2 zombies being a massive threat I *probably* couldn't deal with.
yep. still remember my first time playing DL1 I'd struggle finding weapons early on so I'd raid those big dumpsters for wooden planks table legs and pipes lol
While I wasn't expecting 100% perfection, I must say, compared to other expectations, this one turned out better than I expected! I am so glad to hear the game did in fact achieve on some of its promises even if it went a bit far with some of it.
@@narcleptik You mean NOW after YEARS of patching? Or on release? Because on release Dying Light 1 was basically a Bethesda game. I stopped playing the game until the first big patch. Because whenever I walked up the stairs in the main tower, I had what felt like a 1/5 chance to fall through the stairs.
combat looks MUCH better. I tried dying light 1 again after getting a much better PC, and the combat against humans is horrible. 100% dodge rate until they decide that you can attack after a while. And for the people not immediately attacking you, they're just throwing crap at you.
Human enemy's where basically only there to justify guns being in the game more then anything else. Same problem dead island had. Easily the weakest aspect of dying light was the human enemy's.
The most annjoying thing, is when you would try to dropkick them and they would either doge or just not react at all, killing you before you have the chance to get up.
@keiskay it would be so easy to include guns in a zombies game without relying on you taking out non zombie enemies to acquire them. Hell, have abandoned cop cars scatter around the map with dead cops beside them and just loot them for their pistol/shotgun/rifle for example
Glad to hear Dying Light 2 is a big hit given its long development period. Good for Techland for sticking with it, since it definitely seems they’ve really nailed being in a zombie apocalypse and the fear of them.
@@peste2574 Hey, may I know why? I'm making an in-depth review and I'm currently researching more about the game. I'm more than happy to hear your opinion! :)
@@imfam8838 Well, my experience is regarding console gameplay. I only played a few hours (6 at best, maybe a little more). For starters, the tutorial (the first 2-3 hours of the game) is very badly paced. Lots of unnecessary cutscenes, and it also takes too long. The only good part for me was the introduction of the guy from the bazar (whose name I already forgot, lol). Secondly, I`m not a fan of the combat. I played on Normal, and it was really way too easy. Most zombies die with a few hits from the weakest stuff you get, as do people. Most of the combat animations Aiden are also very odd. I`m never sure when something is going to hit or not, it`s definitely a downgrade from Dying Light 1 (and maybe even Dead Island, but it has been a while that I played it). I really hated the combat and enemies. Combat with humans is also very easy. In the first game they would dodge and counter attack, and sometimes even run away or rush you when you were healing. They would also throw stuff at you when you were far away. From what I`ve seen, that shit is gone. Now most of the combat with people resume to them slowly walking around you, and maybe they`ll hit you. Very, very boring, and you also get one of the strongest moves of the game right at the beginning as well. In DL1 they were also very tanky (which lots of people complain about, but at the start of DL1 you had shitty weapons with bad stats), but in DL2 they are very weak. The hud for me is bad, as is the x-ray vision. I also don`t like the inventory system, but atleast now it actually pauses the game as you use it. It certainly is an improvement from DL1, but even then, that isn`t saying much. To me, the biggest kick in the nuts is the parkour. Aiden is slow as heck, and when you pair it with the fact that you have a stamina bar for climbing (of which aiden also does very, VERY fucking slowly), it makes it very boring. Oh, did I mention that you share the stamina bar for climbing with fighting? Yup, that`s right. It is fucking horrible. Terrible game design. Even tarkov implemented two bars for different actions (which is much more reallistic). I don`t care what they say about it, the parkour is definitely WORSE. I find it much harder to do free running. Aiden can`t decide if he jumos too short, or too far. There also seems to be a delay between pressing to climb and jump stuff and actually doing it, and that totally shits on the experience. I really, really hate the parkour on this. Aiden plays like a guy who is perpetually drunk. I cannot do fine movement with him as I could with Crane. The floatiness is bad all, but the together with all the other complains I have, it just makes it all very boring, tiresome, and annoying. Man, I just realized I never wrote this much before for reviewing a game, so let me finish this up with saying that these youtubers are either deaf, blind, or being paid to be so, because this game has so many basic game design problems that I cannot believe they don`t see it. I started it out giving it a fair chance with low espectations and I still came out disappointed with how the game turned out, and that is saying something.
@@peste2574 it’s funny how all ur issues are personal and half of them aren’t even true 💀 the humans still dodge a lot but u can parry in this game so it’s easier to fuck em but they definitely do dodge i’ve had my drop kick dodged like 4 times inna row. Also you didn’t play anywhere near enough to unlock skills ofc hes slow as shit at the start of Dl crane was slow as fuck and could barely run for more then 10 secs

It's repetitive, unimmersive, frustrating, grindy, unpolished etc.
@@lostgarbage4055 I agree - gamed like RDR2 have a realistic level of gore. That is, you actually need explosives or a shotgun at point blank range to blow off heads or limbs. In a lot of zombie games, the gore is often overdone. In the original Dying Light for example, it always struck me how you could blow a head off with a simple 9mm pistol - that is extremely unrealistic.
It was still huge clickbait and potential turnoff for a lot of people. It was misguided and it's a good thing they came back to specify what the 500h is. For sure the PR department thought big number = impressive. Like they didn't hear about AC Valhalla.
I would disagree. I can’t call it incredibly gorgeous, just good looking. I’d say that it kind of suffers from a boring color palette most of the time, these browns and grays don’t look very good. It reminds me of mkx which had the same kind of washed out color palette.
Dead Island 2, been in development since 2014 and was to be a PS4 exclusive. Has had 4 different developers and is no way every coming out. Dying Light 2, announced in 2019 to come out in 2020, Plague hits and development is halted then restarted last year and is now released this year. Man, Deep Silver really backed the wrong horse. Glad TechLand is back on this horse.
@REfab2002 where did you get ps4 exclusive from the wiki for dead island 2 says Xbox one,PlayStation 4 and Microsoft Windows. Man at this point is there even a chance dead island 2 comes out, dead island 1 and Riptide while clunky messes I had fun with them.
20:07 Actually, from what I heard if you can get the upgrade for it, the grapple hook can do a web-zip in this game as well. It just isn't quite as strong though.
I’m sure someone has said this already but keep in mind that upgrading the grapple gives you the ability to briefly hoist yourself in the direction of the hook which works similarly to how it did in the first game. This in combination with a good chunk of stamina allows you to pull of some spiderman-like gameplay that is super cool.
After seeing many 'reviews' you're the only I trust. Thank you *edit* Seems like there's a hornet nest in here. Is it sad that we are praising the bare minimum with the release, yes. However, in comparison to the absolute shit show, 2020-2021 was with triple-A and double-A releases...... Techland stands tall among all.
A lot of reviews are being based on the game without the day 1 patch. Which the developers have said has to be installed to experience the finished game.
@@kevskikane yeah it's probably rated lower in most reviews because it has no day one patch. I mean like it's 15 or so GB it's needed to fix some left over problems from development but the game looks good mostly even without the patch.

Part of Dying Light 2's zombie issue is more so related to the fact that they're not a new threat anymore, they've become an environmental hazard due to years of humans adapting and surviving against them. It was different in the first game because it was a new virus and people were figuring out ways to stop them. Now in 2, everyone knows how to deal with them. The same thing happened with The Walking Dead, they become less dangerous as people figured out ways to keep them at bay or stop them completely. But still, the first game is better. In 1, Zombies were the threat, in 2 it's the other way around.
It’s a fun game, but I wish they wouldn’t have Ubisofted it up and just given us more of the first game. The weighty combat and intense atmosphere are what gave that game its life, and they’re essentially gone I also hate how they made the game arcadey with health bars, animation based combat instead of physics, and super floaty parkour. It is fun, it’s just not what I hoped it would be. They sacrificed realism for mass appeal, like look at the fountains of blood lmao
Iam a huge Zombie Fan but i dropped both Dead Island and Dying Light, they just get boring realy fast. And Dying Light 2 looks so much over the top, like a Far Cry 6 with Zombies, so not realy interesting. I think i stick to Dead Rising 2, Left 4 Dead 2 and 7 Days to Die when it comes zo Zombies.

I know your comment is old but they absolutely did NOT stick to their vision LOL! After Chris Avellone got fired from false accusations, they had to scramble up the rest of what they got and thats why this game is a big mess. Does this game look anywhere close to the E3 2018-2019? No? Exactly. Nothing what was promised actually got in the game. 5 major storylines scrapped, 100+ sidequests scrapped and there were over 17 FACTIONS to choose from! Edit : Also theres this suit guy Pawal that basically forced the early release of DL2 after they fired Avellone so he could get his massive 200m€ bonus. They could easily delayed DL2 a bit more and then release a close version to E3 but Pawal said no his bonus was more important.
Dying light 1 is a far superior game in most ways. 1's Graphics are less cartoony and more immersive, especially nighttime and dark areas. Dying light 2 just looks extremely goofy and over the top compared to 1. The combat in 2 just feels bad. Feels like it's straight out of elder scrolls with how your weapon phases right through enemies, instead of recoiling off enemies like in 1. It's far more arcadey and stiff compared to 1, which was unique and offered challenge. 2 doesn't have grappling with enemies, no slow mo when chopping off limbs, no takedowns when stunned, etc. Parkour in dying light 2 feels weirdly floaty . Parkour in 1 wasn't perfect, but at least it didn't feel like Crane was jumping on the moon. Also climbing objects takes stamina unlike the first game, which makes the first few hours feel like a chore. My favorite part of 1 which was ruined in 2 was how dangerous night time feels. The game really sells the message that you should avoid going outdoors during the night. Not only can you not see two feet in front of you, but volatiles will rip you to shreds, ordinary zombies can mutate into virals, and even a rare enemy (the blue volatile) can show up sometimes. 2 just feels too safe and easy compared to dying light 1. Not a fan of 2 in all honesty.
The first point I agree with. The atmosphere in 1 was much more scary while 2 was way more bright and colorful but I mean.. 1 takes place in a poor slums area while 2 is in a massive city so its kinda understandable Your seocnd point I disagree with entirely. Sharp weapons are the exact same as 1, if they don't slice through and kill the enemy it just phases through, blunt weapons recoil off, just like the first. And I'm sorry, but huh? challenge in 1? All you had to do in the first one was just dodge and then hit, and repeat until the enemy is dead, especially with human enemies it was more of a chore then anything and combat in 1 got really repetitive and just boring. The only thing that made it fun was the ragdolls. In 2 enemies adapt to your combat style forcing you to switch it up and there are MUCH more combat skills and combos to do in 2 then the first. I'm sorry if you missed it, but there are grappling enemies in dl2 you just have to unlock the skill for it and they've added slow mos and X-rays in the recent update. The first dying light nights were awful. Don't understand why everyone says its more scary. All it is is the same exact zombies patrolling around with are blind as bats and super easy to avoid and get away from. In 2, instead of the volatiles initiating chases it's the howlers which aren't as easy to avoid since they're scattered everywhere and have a longer range of site, and once a chase starts its the most thrilling experience. Zombies jumping off rooftops and spilling out of windows on the streets below infront of you, howlers screeching at you as you run past, the sirens going off indicating that a new level of the chase has started, and then at level 3 the volatiles come in and it's just like DL1 but better. Ordinary zombies also mutate into virals in the second.
8:57 its because they kept the same system in dying light 1 where if an enemy ragdolls into an area where there isn't enough room to get back up, they die instantly.
You're reviews are just some of the most genuinely well done on UA-cam imo, you don't get into all the technical aspects of every little physic or anything you just tell us if the game is worth it and if it's good or not. You and ACG are the best reviewers imo
Worth a buy did a perfect review on this game. It's a terrible broken mess that should never have been released in the current state. Especially for the price tag and the claim that it was a finished game. buy it in 6 months when it's fixed.
Personally I think this games great, sure the parkours a little floaty and there’s a lot of HUD (luckily we can change all of it) plus there is a few bugs but what game doesn’t have that on release I’m sure it’ll be fixed over time, can’t wait
I wasn't a fan of your first Dying Light review tbh, but this was a fantastic review of Dying Light 2 man. Way to have self-awareness when it came to the previous games review, that's big dick energy.
8:50 NEW SPEEDRUN STRAT DISCOVERED These are the same guys who made Dead Island, the original ultra-jank which is why the stun animations, weapon effects, and the headstomps look so familiar.
The gore response mechanics are so underwhelming. Really expected better after replaying Dead Island and Dying Light (the first game) again. No wound decals on the body, no blood pools/blood puddles forming around the ground while zombies walking with severed limbs (only after death), no wound variations, just overall so disappointing for a game where you expect a nice gory mess similar or better to the previous games. The game is still solid and a decent play, but it just fails so hard in the gore department in my opinion. Left 4 Dead 2 back in 2009 did it so much better almost 13 years ago and the previous games also did it a lot better. What a shame. I guess that is what you get when you want to cater to Germany and Austria so your game won't get censored, ridiculous.
Completely agreed the zombies are an after thought in this game. Too much parkour, too much pointless conversations about mundane topics, it's all over the place imho. I enjoy dead Island much more then this. I don't need parkour gimmicks. I need more suspension of disbelief. The environment feels like something out of ninja warrior TV show, so unrealistic imho. I don't mind *some* parkour where appropriate but when every effen building is copy pasted with trampolines, skater rails, I lose immersion. And don't get me started on the boring gear treadmill and rpg elements that are almost exclusively parkour focused. If I want to play a parkour game, I'll play mirrors edge or something.
like I always say, these gaming companies should hire the Brutal Doom developer to program all the gore and blood mechanics in games, that guy is like he was born for that shit, it's his life passion or something 🤣🤣🤣besides that, it would really make a difference for this brazilian guy to be hired abroad and earn some Dollars for his work you know, our currency down here is broken now
Might be because unlike Cyberpunk, we barely heard anything about Dying Light 2. No news or updates, just radio silence. Which I think was for the best. It helped the team focus on making a *good* game rather then trying to match the unrealistic demands and hype that would have most certainly happened if the game was constantly being advertised! Same thing happened with Lost Soul Aside. The developers went radio silent for a good few years not because production was in trouble (in fact the game has had a smooth production apparently), but because they didn’t want to be strangled by overblown expectations. And honestly I think all game developers need to start doing this: go dark for a bit, focus on the game and making it the best thing ever, and *then* start the hype train. Because if you start the hype train before the bridge if finished, then you’re gonna end up crashing right into a ravine.
@@Grsav 1. Gman’s closing statement was about how there were some aspects that *wanted* to make him rage quit, but the overall package is so well handled that he just kept coming back to it. 2. IGN also thinks every single COD game is an 8/10. Can we *really* trust their opinion?
You should do a retrospective review of dying light 1 and again for dying light 2 after a few years. Unlike most games, DL had gotten a lot of free updates that improved the game immensely and made the dlcs actually worth playing. I believe the same treatment would be given to this game especially with techland's promise of at least 5 years continual support and content updates.
19:42 - if you don't work on your upper back and hands - yes, very much. Just try hanging with no movement. Most people won't last even two minutes, especially if the grip surface is not suited for that + you have to adjust the glider's direction against the wind resistance that pulls you in the other direction which requires even more strength.
This man prefers a grappling hook that zips you towards things over one that has proper swinging physics. Other than that this seems to be an alright review.
If by proper you mean more boring then you're right, who the hell even cares about realistic swinging physics when then rest of the game is full of unrealistic mechanics, I'll take the more fun unrealistic swinging at any time of the day
@Raț Florin it's all preference at the end of the day. Personally, I prefer this grappling hook. It kind adds to the movement and combat system instead of overriding it like the first

Game looks like a no go. The reviews from the night not being scary at all, enemy's not being too varied, and that floaty jump really throws me off. The narrative means absolutely nothing and only one thing you do affects anything really.
I didn't play much of DL1, but I did play a lot of Dead Island co-op. This game looks so freaking interesting with so many mechanics. It looks like how Bethesda games felt 15-20 years ago and there's something admirable about that.
Honestly though when it comes to the lockpicking mechanic, it works. It isn't broken, it's one less thing you need to teach the player and it feels familiar- which it would even to a seasoned survivor like the character is supposed to be. IDK. Kinda like saying having a compass-based HUD is overused.

I love the fact that they eliminated most ranged combat. Let's face it, firearms are really subpar in Dying Light and it was always more fun to just face Rais' men with some explosives and melee. Although I hate that you can't just throw your weapon anymore.
Jesus fuck no. The human combat was the literal worst part of combat in the first game. Fire arms were the ONLY way to deal with them on anything higher than normal difficulty since they 2 shot you or less while being total damage sponges themselves. It was ridiculous slashing a group of enemies over and over for 5 minutes only to slip up once, get hit by two people at the same and die.
@@oh-not-the-bees7872 Exactly. @@imravegod I agree this took me 10 n half hours to complete generally didn't think anything special from it I personally thought the fact that the weapons were directly aimed at body parts and you couldn't choose what body parts you wanted to dismember was quite anoyying ...and generally the enemies wernt hard enough ...... And the human ai we're trash also....Im so glad this was free through my freinds games share
Seems a lot more combat focused which I could see as problematic. The whole point of parkour was to avoid the zombies in the early game, not clunk away at health bars with a pipe.
I think it depends on how you play. Like wanna parkor around and avoid zombies and shit? Heres a hang glider and grapple hook. Wanna smash everythings head in? Here's a flaming hammer, go nuts.
My man. The 2nd one looks way more generic ( surroundings etc ) when I thought the city of Harran was one of Dying light's strong suits. And the atmosphere was stellar.
It's nice to hear that this one's story is great, as much as I loved the first game the story was soooo cliche and honestly kinda bad that the only reason I returned playing that game just for the fun gameplay and I never wanted to touch the story ever again after finishing it. I really hoped they'd do something good for the sequel, because combined with the first game's brilliant and fun gameplay it could become something awesome.
I actually like hearing that the story is long. My problem with the first game is that the story was so short. You can basically finish it in a few hours so unless you were engaging in other activities you could get to new maps pretty fast and had a ton of back log quests
It's really not great now that it's been out for a while and people have played it. It's not the worst but by the end it will have made absolutely no sense and will never be explained.
The first one had super fun gameplay but a laughably hackneyed story and Saturday morning cartoon villains. Since this sequel seems to have similar, if not even slightly improved gameplay and a heavy emphasis on telling a good story, it seems like they've just fixed the biggest problem (in my mind) that they had to. This makes me glad.
This review is way too nice this game still has bugs and bugs and bugs to this very day dying light 1 will be remembered for being a unique parkour survival zombie game dying light 2 will be remembered as a buggy mess and nothing more. Only other thing it can possibly remembered for is making night time feel shallow as hell compared to the first one and the grapple hook was the most unnecessary addition in a game since jason todd in arkham knight.
@@theshellderinslowbrostail5422 To each their own. I lived through that too and I miss it dearly. I hate it when games with depressing content look overly colorful.
It sucks because the enemies feel weightless, in turn attacks feel like they have zero impact and get boring very fast. I can't be immersed and be scared if I am super human. I loved the first one because it genuinely felt like you were brawling with the zombies and too many could overwhelm you if you did not play it right. Even when you kinda get op in the first game, it still feels like your enemies have weight to them which is essential for a game that leans so heavily on visceral melee combat,. This game feels like it's simply degraded in this area. Also, what a dumb system, needing to check your signatures when in the dark, pretty much writes off night time exploring. I HATE being on a timer for no reason. The dialogue is terrible, it was not amazing in the first but something about the story and character just worked, I couldn't get past a few hours in this game because I just did not give a shit, where as with the first one, I was invested in the characters straight away. The parkour system also sucks, the stamina bar decreasing when climbing was a big mistake and also a seemingly pointless one, I do not understand what it adds to the game other than frustration for frustrations sake. This is just another example of a game devolving from it's original form in almost every way. P.s Nighttime is supposed to be dark when there are no street lights. -_-
The immune system thing seems like one of the worst gameplay features I've ever seen. A constant ticking clock nagging me while I just try to play the game is a quick way to annoy me.
I heard from another review that the timer only exists at night or in dark areas, and you have to reach a UV light to reset it, and it gives you multiple minutes to do it, so it doesn't seem all that bad to me, seems kinda like finding fuel for your bike in Days Gone, sounds annoying but you rarely have to engage with it.
Really disappointed that they toned down the darkness at night and how it’s no longer as threatening or arse clenching getting chased at night. That’s what made the first game for me, yet they said people complained it was too hard. I don’t believe that. I’ve never heard or read anyone saying it was too hard at night in the first game. NOT ONCE. They just did it to be more accessible to a wider, younger audience. Essentially dumbing the game down. So many companies do this and it loses its flavour and one of the things that made the first game so memorable. It just waters down the experience. I still love the game but that’s just my opinion. Great video 👍🏻👍🏻.
oh no, major fuck up... it's one of my main complaints of "modern" games (yuck) how they implement this "fake darkness" everywhere, it's not really DARK like PS1 games were, like older late 90's PC games were, where darkness was Pitch Black.... but here's the important detail: it was pitch black without affecting the visibility of the surround area, you could still SEE stuff... not the case with modern games, where I feel like there's this "fog" covering up everything, and the way they design darkness these days they simply lower the gamma brightness of the whole environment, making it really difficult to SEE shit... I don't want to feel eye strain for playing a stupid fucking game... I don't want end up using glasses because of some stupid fucking game... fuck that shit
This game looks great but again anyone buying “triple A” games in 202X should fully expect bugs. Alot of games are taking 3 months plus or longer (looking at you, BF2042 and Cyberpunk) to be a decent product. Pre-orders are pointless too. With so many purchases now being digital, there isn’t going to be a shortage Day 1!
This is the problem with games getting more and more complex. More code = exponentially more opportunities for bugs and glitches. People act like devs are lazy and while I won't speak to whether that is the case, the games are far more likely to have unanticipated conflicts in their engines. That said, don't pre order is a good policy. We should have some standard of polish to expect.
@@gellister I agree! Take COD for example. People are saying “well they did MW2 in 2 years, why does it take 3 and quality isn’t there” well I feel it needs longer (franchise needs non-annual releases too) but MW2 was a 360/PS3 title. We are now on Next gen and ever improving PC hardware so yeah it takes longer!
@@afd19850 COD needed to stop annualizing a long time ago. Problem is: the market keeps buying the games year on year (though it is slowing down). The market kept accepting Activision's pig slop so Activision kept feeding slop to the piggies. The piggies stop eating slop, the farmer has to plan new meals.
The first Dying Light is my favorite game ever made. I’ve been waiting for so long to get my hands on the sequel, and it’s almost here. I haven’t been this pumped for a game since Doom: Eternal. I’m not excited for any other games this year, I’ve only been focused on this one. Thanks for the review, man. I’m much more happy about preordering this game now
Having played the game myself for quite a while already I just wanted to say that one thing I can’t stand in this game is the weapon looting system, there’s not really a lot of weapon variety like in the first game. I understand it’s 15 years after the shitshow but I wish we could’ve had more designs like the first one outside of artefact weapons. And weapons are so hard to find early game, either being bought or mission rewards. I do miss just being able to run around and open chests to get loads of weapons and test them all out on a huge horde.
I agree and most also do, they will definitely add more in and make a lot of things better overall, I feel like a lot of people were jsit to impatient for this game (myself included) and they’re were forced to release what they had, which is still great, jsit needs a little cleanup and som tweaks that Tecland are well capable of, so keep your hopes up
A very solid game. MAD FUN to play CO-OP as well!! The fact that we KNOW that techland will keep pumping love into this ( that’s what she said ) … is a solid reason to invest. The first one STILL gets mad love from a lot of friends I have online.
I'm kind of sad it's post apocalyptic on a more global scale, because the first game really greatly built a sense of dread and misery with everyone being boxed into the quarantine zone. But to be fair it's better to change things than just clone the first game
Your comment on the grappling hook being locked off in Dying Light 1 is a little unfair. The grappling hook basically removes parkour from the game. It's fun as hell to grapple around but there's a good reason why you don't get it until really late, it trivializes one of the best parts of the game.
There's a simple solution for that, then: Design it better. Make it work more intuitively with the parkour in some form or fashion. Don't just give up because you can't be bothered to make it work better.
2:45 the reason for that is because Chris Avellone made the story for this game, he is the one that made the story/characters for Kotor 2 and Fallout New Vegas when he worked for Obsidian. Sadly he got metoo and he had to stop working on this game but you can literally see his work when you play Dying Light 2. Chris Avellone is probably one of the if not the greatest video game storytellers and sadly he will never work in the industry ever again.
There's a lot of praise here for a gore system that's really underdeveloped at a glace. The animations are nice sure, but there's no visible wounds on hit or blood staining the environment after extreme spills, nothing to make the aftermath of a fight interesting or immersive to look at
If you fully upgrade the grapple hock you can pull yourself forward, with the movement being chainable. It works somewhat similar to how the grapple hook functioned in the first game.

This may be coming from DLSS or FSR upscaling options. Especially DLSS has tendency to be oversharpend when it's not implemented correctly, like in RDR2 or God of War (they patched it for the latter, fortunately, and included DLSS Sharpness slider in last update).
Yeah, it almost starts to look Borderlands-esque some places, but that may have been made worse by UA-cam compression.

It's actually pretty hard at the start
Yeah, I remember having to kick zombies into nailboards and stuff to even kill them at the start was crazy xD
I do appreciate it though if a game lets you feel weak at the start and you end up with a glorious set of combat skills. The most annjoying thing, is when you would try to dropkick them and they would either doge or just not react at all, killing you before you have the chance to get up.

@Oh Yeah Yeah It really is just mediocre at best. Very disappointing.
He didn't say it looked bad.
He said the original game still looks good even for today so the 7 year jump isn't as apparent
True, it visually has more realism to it. which to me looks better. DL2's art style really killed it for me.
I would disagree. I can’t call it incredibly gorgeous, just good looking. I’d say that it kind of suffers from a boring color palette most of the time, these browns and grays don’t look very good. It reminds me of mkx which had the same kind of washed out color palette.

Gman out here single handedly keeping the legacy of Austin Powers alive. Respect.

Seems like there's a hornet nest in here.

Not gonna lie on some of the higher points in the first game, I did get a sense of vertigo when I looked down.
The weighty combat and intense atmosphere are what gave that game its life, and they’re essentially gone
I also hate how they made the game arcadey with health bars, animation based combat instead of physics, and super floaty parkour. It is fun, it’s just not what I hoped it would be. They sacrificed realism for mass appeal, like look at the fountains of blood lmao
I cannot wait to get this game! DL is one of my favourite zombie apocalypse games ever and DL2 looks like it's gonna be insane man!

Pleasantly surprised that they didn't spend the extra years fucking the project up, and instead seemingly refined their original vision.
Wish they could have done it without likely crunching their employees a lot, though.
1 takes place in a poor slums area while 2 is in a massive city so its kinda understandable
Your seocnd point I disagree with entirely.

As someone who loved the first game, I think this is gonna be one of my favorite games this year.

8:50 NEW SPEEDRUN STRAT DISCOVERED
These are the same guys who made Dead Island, the original ultra-jank which is why the stun animations, weapon effects, and the headstomps look so familiar.
You’re definitely stupid If you think this game isn’t graphic as fuck. The gore is insane
Totally agree. It’s like a cartoon. Highly disappointed. Nighttime sucks now too
Completely agreed the zombies are an after thought in this game.
Uh oh necrophile alert

They promised an amazing game, and it seems they will actually deliver. Really happy to see this isn’t going to be another cyberpunk situation.
The guy said he rage quit cause of bugs also IGN and other reviewers say that the game has busting bugs you got it wrong I think…
@@Grsav

If by proper you mean more boring then you're right, who the hell even cares about realistic swinging physics when then rest of the game is full of unrealistic mechanics, I'll take the more fun unrealistic swinging at any time of the day

the messy dev cycle really cucked the game, but what makes me mad is that they didnt admit your choices were no longer gonna affect much
I think the lore reason why the nights aren’t as dark anymore is because of the lack of polution so the moon isn’t as clouded as with polution.

That “Come Again” scene after the glitch had me rolling 🤣 excellent review 👍🏼.
@@oh-not-the-bees7872
Exactly. Guns were a necessity simply due to how annoying it was to fight human enemies with melee, but it also simultaneously broke the intensity of the game as an assault rifle allowed you to easily take down a volatile or demolisher.

Love the first one. The second just makes me want to play the first one.
I new game + the first game so many times but I only did it for the set pieces
I just started playing the first, and am enjoying it so far, so hopefully the second knocks it out of the park!
Your review is so much different than IGNs. I guess Techland didn't bribe them at all. I trust you over IGN any day of the week
That flying drop kick launching enemies into orbit looks like it's endlessly entertaining
You could say the same about wearing a mask and changing filters in Metro games.
The combat look downgraded from the first one
Like Dead Rising 2 and having to give the Zombrex shit lol. Or Far Cry 2 with the malaria (still love both these games though).
Hmm, different perspective, I guess. One might say the timer increases tension and fear, but I guess others see it differently.
Yeah night time in the first game was legit terrifying before you get the grapple hook
oh no, major fuck up... it's one of my main complaints of "modern" games (yuck) how they implement this "fake darkness" everywhere, it's not really DARK like PS1 games were, like older late 90's PC games were, where darkness was Pitch Black.... but here's the important detail: it was pitch black without affecting the visibility of the surround area, you could still SEE stuff... not the case with modern games, where I feel like there's this "fog" covering up everything, and the way they design darkness these days they simply lower the gamma brightness of the whole environment, making it really difficult to SEE shit...
I agree and most also do, they will definitely add more in and make a lot of things better overall, I feel like a lot of people were jsit to impatient for this game (myself included) and they’re were forced to release what they had, which is still great, jsit needs a little cleanup and som tweaks that Tecland are well capable of, so keep your hopes up
Same here, when I started playing the first game I didn't like it, now it's in my top 5 games I've ever played
Chris Avellone is probably one of the if not the greatest video game storytellers and sadly he will never work in the industry ever again.
god i cant even physically describe how hyped i am for this game
There's a lot of praise here for a gore system that's really underdeveloped at a glace. The animations are nice sure, but there's no visible wounds on hit or blood staining the environment after extreme spills, nothing to make the aftermath of a fight interesting or immersive to look at
If you fully upgrade the grapple hock you can pull yourself forward, with the movement being chainable. It works somewhat similar to how the grapple hook functioned in the first game.
Even if there was no story, I'd still play the shit out of this game for its open world with multiplayer
when the big man uploads, its a good day.
Did you just throw in a fucking random reference to "Livin' It Up"? Thank you for actually making my day, holy shit lol
"Will you really replay a 25 hour game to get a different ending?" If I am not satisfied with the ending or outcome I got, then yes
All of these modern heavily advertised games leave a bad taste in my mouth.
