What's very significant about this performance is it literally changed SRV's life. Believe it or not, a large chuck of the audience at Montreux at this time were used to acoustic blues and reacted negatively to his performance: a number of them booed him!! No word of a lie. Fortunately David Bowie was at this show and was blown away. After the show, SRV was so dejected by the negative response from the crowd - until DB asked him to play on his "Let's Dance" album. I think Jackson Browne was also there and offered him some free time in his studio to record- which became "Texas Flood". And the rest as they say is history.

Wow. What a pivotal moment this was for him then.. I didn't know that at all. That's amazing. I feel sorry he felt so dejected though. But it's those moments that make us!

@@L33Reacts So true! He then returned to The Montreux Blues Festival three years later and they greeted him like a god!😀There is actually concert footage on YT of that show.

Tightest band ever. "Dirty Pool" from this show is so nasty. I noticed how beautiful Stevie's hands are in this clip. And I think lots of us like that shirt he wore. Most of all, how the hell did he play like that? String lightning. Love you, SRV❤

There's a documentary about that whole show its before they got famous.. people were booing and they just kept on playing like they were still in texas in a smoky bar room but David Bowie and Jackson Brown was in that audience and history was made .. i used to have it on dvd

SRV turned the world upside down in '82 with this concert (flying in the face of jazz) VERY MUCH like Bob Dylan did going electric in '65 at the Newport folk festival (flying in the face of acoustic).

This is a nice cover of Freddie King's original, but the definitive one is Eric Clapton with the Blues breakers--the tone is out of this world for 1965, especially.

Heaven. A couple of their early songs. “Rude Mood” is straight-up rock & roll. Don’t underestimate these 1982 covers. Stevie was always working, always practicing, and these covers (“Wham!” and “Testify” are two others) are mostly technically incredibly difficult to play and are very much a part of who he is and who he became.

And don't forget- his older brother Jimmie who was a top top tier guitarist before kid brother caught up and passed him newsworthy. Ck out Jimmie if you like. Stevie idolized his brother. Wanted to do what his older brother brother did.

My fave song from Montreaux is “Dirty Pool” This is where Stevie shows his mastery of Tremolo Strummimg. SRV mastered this beautiful very difficult technique. I can’t get enough of it!!!!

I think this is performance that the crowd didn't react as most of the audience stayed in their seats. He was not what they were expecting since it was jazz festival. Because of the festival, David bowie contacted Stevie who then did the guitar work on let's dance song

I love SRV Sundays❤. I’m always excited to see your reactions. He’s by far my all time favorite!!! As I’m sure others have told you, never hesitate to do the same song from different venues, because they’re different every time. He’s just amazing.

He probably learned this Freddy King song from Eric Clapton's version from the 1966 John Mayall with Eric Clapton album, which was a big step up from what Clapton was playing with the Yardbirds. Showing that Stevie's playing had ties to these earlier players, when he toured on the same bill as Jeff Beck, they would jam together on "Jeff's Boogie" from his Yardbird days.

Lee there are tons of videos that are never blocked like El Macombo is. Partial list: Capitol Theatre 1985, Austin City Limits 1989, Toyko 1985 as you know. You need to dive in to a recording session between Albert King and Stevie that is 90 minutes long but can be viewed song by song. The whole session is a Treasure of Pleasure🎶🎸💯. Start with "Don't Lie To Me"!
With the exception of the last few months, his addiction did not interfere with his ability or respect for music until it did. Music was the driving and defining source of his whole life.
Love your respect and appreciation for our Stevie and can't wait for next Sunday🎶🎸💯✌️👏🙌‼️

@@L33Reacts the Capitol Theatre s/b golden, you did Life Without you from there. Lots of great performances from there; Couldn't Stand The Weather, Aint Gone 'N' Give Up On Love, can't go wrong. The 1985 Montreux Jazz Festival! A must watch from there is Tin Pan Alley featuring Johnny Copeland. I know you watched a version of TPA from Toyko but understand how differently the same song can be. This version is iconic💙🎶. And for a nice long look backstage at Stevie doing three songs for a Soundcheck be sure to schedule a Sunday for this (never blocked) "Soundcheck" that has been viewed over 23 million times. I'll come back and edit to paste that link. I'm surprise about videos from ACL 1989 were ever blocked cuz there are tons of them that have gone through. Please keep trying as he is so worth it🎸🎶💯. Thanks Lee👋👌👏🙌
