I remember watching this as it aired. I live in the UK and tuned in to watch Steve Vai. After seeing SRV, he instantly became my favourite guitarist. He still is to this day. So sorely missed. RIP Stevie.
I am the “someone” who suggested it lol. I am glad you chose to check it out. I was fortunate enough to see him 6 times in concert. He absolutely tore your face off for an hour and a half. You left exhausted. I cried my eyes out the day he passed.
Stevie is so likable. He was humble and kind, no matter where he was or what he was doing. His bandmates can attest to that. He never acted like he deserved big star treatment. It comes thru in this intimate setting. Glad we had him, if only for a short time. His reward must be great.🙏🎸
Besides the strength and depth of his blues the other things that always get me are Stevie's unmatched speed, accuracy, and OMG the stamina to play that hard that fast for that long...Add to that talent the fact that he put himself through hell, then crawled back out of the drug and drink hole and still was just a down to earth, humble human being... What a guy...!!! I saw a show at Fitzgerald's in Houston as a kid and it's on UA-cam... Over 2 hours in a small room and it was the first night with Tommy Shannon on bass... Give it a listen even if you can't react to it due to length.

Stevie was also almost responsible for me surrendering after I was part of the Elmacombo audience in TO and hanging out too much at Jeff Healey's club drownding my sorrows after crappy lunch hour busking at Wellesley and Younge subway station.

The owner of the guitar was offered a bunch of money to buy it and is on display in some restaurant. The owner has since regretted selling it! Love this! You must watch Mary had a Little Lamb at Austin City Live. It also has some great keys in it by Reese but SrV’s performance is out of this world. Another great performance is Dirty Pool live in Montreux 1982 where he does a long session of Tremolo Strumming which is incredible! Love your reactions ❤
I remember when I was trying to cop some of those funk chords from this when I was first learning how to play guitar. It felt very satisfying/inspiring and I could lose myself in it.❤

Its on yt and ive seen different pieces taken from it. But to watch the whole vid doesn't seem like 26 mins. Its sooo gd. You can see he felt honored to be on tht national platform with his crew and big brother

Thanks so much for sharing a love of music. I cried after seeing your response the song Guinevere by Crosby, Stills and Nash. It was magical when I first heard at 13 years old in 1969.
The last song is one of his early showcase songs named “Testify”. He used to play it often, and he played an electric version at El Mocambo, which is definitely worth seeing if you haven’t. Also “Mary Had a Little Lamb” the way he originally played it, and a cover of Hendrix’s “Little Wing”, which is maybe the most beautiful, stunning, unsettling thing he ever did that was caught on film. Most of his performances weren’t recorded. Film was fairly expensive to buy and develop, and it took up space. Stevie’s El Mocambo set was recorded because the cameraman was learning to use the camera to film a later show.
Have you seen the “new” footage that has turned up from the El Mocambo show? It shows the audience more than anything. Maybe you’ll see yourself in the footage

I don’t know this for a fact so take it lightly, rumor was that the 12 string was borrowed from someone and it went home with a cracked neck. True or false I don’t know but I would love to own it lol

This was my first introduction to Stevie Ray Vaughan. I was like, we are going to be checking some more of this out. I was not disappointed. Lol.😂❤

To do what he does on an Acoustic guitar is incredible, let alone he’s playing a 12 string at that speed! I miss Stevie Ray Vaughan
