One of my favourite tracks from Frank. I heard it first time about 12 years old. Loved it. Very King Crimson, who I only heard first time at the age of 16.
Love this instrumental. So evocative. Talking about “sinister”, 2 instrumentals you must listen to: 3rd Movement from Sinister Footwear from You Are What You Is. Sinister Footwear from Them or Us. Mind blowing stuff. Thanks for the great reaction.
Frank eventually won his epic lawsuit against Warner Brothers. Later he re-released many of the tracks on the 3-disc vinyls album "Leather", all re-mixed and upgraded
If I remember right , the only words on the album , they are jammin on the guitar and it stops , and Frank asks " You gettin tired ?" , the other guy , " No , uh uh , my fingers got stuck ." Then they go back to jammin . Incredible album !!
My older brothers turned me on to ZAPPA , this was the first one I bought , on 8-track ! At first I was disappointed because it didn't have the funny lyrics , but after I listened to it several times , WOW , it's one of my favorites . Oh , I was about 10 years old when I bought that 8-track ! Over 40 years ago!!
Zappa-fied! There’s so much great material you have in store yet. You’re making me want to Patreon (verb) so I can make some requests with some legit confidence in my legit Patreon clout! keep up the great work, I let people know about your channel whenever appropriate, which is often!
TOP 10 Zappa Album...! Played it cover to cover 100's of times. Once again, gatta love "The SMOG Monster" (Hedorah) being born from the Dregs of Franks Bed...!
Frank is playing keyboards on this, not George Duke. It's only Frank, Parlato, and Bozzio. It's one of Frank's few keyboard credits and definitely my favorite. This is the Zappa power trio. The only people officially in the band at this time were Frank and Terry. Dave Parlato was in and out from the early 70's. That's why the rest of the album is a revolving door of musicians, there were a bunch that quit and a few that got fired right around this time. Patrick O'Hearn came in through Bozzio and the first thing he played was the recording of "The Ocean is the... " on stand-up bass. This was my theme song for the covid year.
Lee this song, an album was actually originally going to be released as an eight sided four record set by the name of Lather Warner Brothers refused to release it. You can look up all the details. It was later release on CD never on vital unfortunately however Frank did play the entire eight sided album on the radio in Los Angeles being the DJ
I wish you were able to hear all this music on LP so you would hear what was actually recorded recorded Digital corrupts all of it. Oh, by the way, the more you listen to McCartney the more you’ll hear Beatles …FZ Lives On
He lit the beacon for new genre while at the same time, showing others how rewarding working through new ideas and taking chances can be. Japanese Proverb: “Fall down seven times, stand up eight.”
hey L33 - great review / reaction. indeed it’s a fucking goldmine of stuff in Frank’s catalogue for those who connect with it. some of it may resonate, some almost certainly will not, from person to person, but… quite a lot of it is a treasure to me personally, and repays joyous listening - decades on it just keeps giving for some of us 😊 it’s nice to see you really connecting with some of it, and expressing your perspective on it. seanM
So that’s what it is to feel filthy. 😅 (Lee, did you intend for your shirt - color - to match the album cover? ) We went to disgusting places? 🙂 Dark shades of an instrumental… Thank you, Lee and Peter K.
Just so you know how this song sounds years and years later on tour ... from the 4th "You can't do that on stage anymore" cd set. ua-cam.com/video/KD2EnMYeIAc/v-deo.html
For another aspect of him, see his serious contemporary orchestral side, for example his "The Perfect Stranger"(12:46), from the album Boulez Conducts Zappa (1984). Then there is the stuff he composed and recorded on the Synclavier after he had finished with touring eg. the Jazz From Hell album.
Dear L33, you definately should hear Waka/Jawaka and The Grand Wazoo, and also this complete one (and many others too) - all amazing albums. Nice comments, thanks!
You could easily do Frank Friday for over 20 years
Start with The Real Frank Zappa Book. You'll love it. It's a way of life.
This has always reminded me of King Crimson, somehow I feel it's in the same spirit.
"I love this side of Frank" -- we all do haha!!
You need to keep going - This album is hands down one of his best

Agreed! These are essential Zappa

Girl at record store pointed out to me that King Crimson had Zappa elements. This was 1970. Bebop Tango shares some Schizoid elements.

His daughter, Moon, has a biography coming out in September. It should be an interesting perspective.
One of the all time favorites!
dude! Waka Jawaka and The Grand Wazoo are must-hears
Yeah, it's a good one, I agree. One of my top of his, too.

A very atmospheric track and in 5/4 too. I love it!
Waka Jawaka/ Grand Wazoo are genius.
Beautiful instrumental
With the oil of Aphrodite and the dust of The Grand Wazoo!

Hello Danica! ☀️
My dream : Frank and Robert Fripp working together !
Despite the Adrian Belew link, I don't think it would have worked, personality-wise.
So that’s what it is to feel filthy. 😅

I think you'd really dig The Grand Wazoo, Lee
I probably would. I'll have to check it out.

Frank started composing on the Synclavier in 1984.
This was great. I could listen to this some more.
I recommend reading The Real Frank Zappa book.
Read his autobiography its great The Real Zappa Book
Read "The Real Frank Zappa Book." It's the only biography written by Frank himself.
I am the unofficial Audiophile in the house
Check out FRANK ZAPPA - Black Napkins LIVE '76, Philadelphia
Zappa was Prometheus

Love the title. It could be a dig at the attire nuns wear.
Love your nickname 🙂
Do you knew that the original title of this album was "Hot Rats III"?
If you dig Zappa’s instrumental jazz-fusion stuff, you MUST hear The Grand Wazoo! I’ll be having “Blessed Relief” played at my funeral : )
ZappaFIENDED, not ZappaFIED. This is some of Frank's darkest theme. I love it. Keys are to die for.
I crashed my dad's car while listening to this song. It kinda distracted me...
SHUT UP AND PLAY YOUR GUITAR. TRULY FRANKTASTIC.
