These Chinese manufacturers are making bank from the emulation market.
Also they can keep using the most modern hardware. Their systems can have impressive emulation results that keep getting better. Nintendo is stuck with the same Nvidia chipset from 2017 until they release the switch successor or upgrade.

Hey Ron, I'm in the market for a console or handheld that can play Ninja Baseball Batman MAME, Panzer Dragoon Saga Saturn, and Shadowgate64 N64 with ease if I have the roms. These are the 3 games that I really want to try. Preferably plug and play as my laptop is crap. Would this be a good candidate? Sounds like the closest one you've reviewed.

I'm one of those KI people. Thanks for testing them. I've got a Retroid Pocket 2 + coming but I'm gonna wait a good while to get something else more expensive. At this price I'd want it to run those games almost perfectly at least.
This looks like a fun system. Definitely interested in seeing it run Jet Force Gemini and Diddy Kong Racing for the N64, two of my top favorite games.

Sega Dreamcast and Saturn emulation performance, is a good enough reason to get one of these. Sonic Adventure and Crazy Taxi are running spot on from what I can see. The thought of being able to play Test Drive Le Mans on a portable is really enticing 😀😀.
The current firmware is crap. Gonna wait till they improve it.
You could probably do a single video just testing Gamecube on this device: F-Zero Gx, Metroid Prime, Eternal Darkness, Mario Sunshine, Rouge Squadron 2, Star Fox Assault.
Also I would like to see How Panzer Dragoon for the Saturn runs.
Ehhh, Rogue Squadron 2 isn't happening. The RP2+ is a lot more powerful than this is and even it couldn't possibly run that. This also stutters and lags bad running games like Windwaker, but RP2+ can run that fine at least.... F zero should work fine though. Mario Sunshine is a maybe. Metroid prime is probably a no on Rg552, RP2+ might be able to run Metroid Prime but I am not 100% sure.
I just bought a new phone Samsung galaxy s20 and it's been really good 😁 I can basically dock it with Samsung dex mode or use the USB C to hdmi works good definitely needed to replace my phone it's going on 7 years lol my s7 works but the top screen is cracked and the volume button fell off so I had to use on screen volume control or my headphones.
Definitely interested in more GC stuff. I bought like 15 games with the system from EB back in the day on super sale when it was on the way out and never really got explore more of the library.
Man that's gotta be the best well rounded out selection of games I have seen on a tester video. Thumbs up 👍. If you are looking for hardware pushers try GameCube NFS Most Wanted and Crash Nitro Cart is 1.2 Gigs that should be enough data to slow it down. And I just found Sonic Colors on the WII is 3.56 Gigs

Looks like this might be the chipset to get, but probably better to wait for some other systems that use it in the future before jumping on one of the first ones that's out
I ordered an RP2+ instead. I prefer it's much higher specs tbh. It has enough juice to run basically everything well up until gamecube/Ps2.
It's also less than half the price of the RG552.
Not to mention you can fit it in your pocket unlike the 552
N64 Rare games always give me trouble, especially conkers and Donkey Kong, Die hard the arcade game on dreamcast is another one.
I was hoping you'd get a hold of one of these as my expectations from products usually align with yours.
I bought 3 Anbernic systems, one RG351P and two RG351V, the 351P still works fine, but both 351V's have hardware problems, both started to have problems within days of getting them and Anbernic told me I was SOL on both.. I was able to fix one, but now it won't charge and one SD card slot is dead, so for me these devices are a waist of time and money, I will buy a Steam Deck when its out. I am currently using my Phone with a GameSir X2 controller, I am going to test out PS2 games this weekend.
@@caseycoenen936 My problem is at the hardware level, its a known problem with the RG351V, the board calculates the battery level by voltage, in my case i can charge it for days and it will show 100%, when i unplug it, seconds later it will drop to 60 then around 30, then i can play a game for probably 30 minutes then it shuts off, i have replaced the battery and its the same problem, both devices haven't been used much so its not like the battery is dead, one thing that does fix the problem is removing the battery and plugging it back in but this will last for one charge then its back to the same. Another way i can use it is to have it plugged in a power bank. I like the 351V's form factor and screen better than the 351P, other users have the same problems with those 2 models since Anbernic doesn't know how to engineer proper battery management. not sure if this is the same problem with other models, I gave up on Anbernic.

@@caseycoenen936 Yeah I spent to much time trying to fix those, its not worth the time and money, Tones of UA-cam channels review these things, often there's no long term reviews since the devices sit on a shelf collecting dust. Not every Device they make will have problems but the quality of most isn't that good for the price. I have 2 old molded PS Vitas, i didn't pay much for them and both can play all the same emulators, Sony makes premium devices and are the best to mod and play some retro games.
I hope they make an aluminum shell model of this one. I do like the bigger screen and the higher performance of the "newer" SOC.
I’d love to see a side by side comparison of this and the Retroid Pocket 2+. It offers a native 4:3 aspect ratio, plus Game Cube, and evening PS2 support with that brand new emulator that just dropped in Android.
Would love to see 3DO emulation performance if possible 🙂
The GPD clam handhelds emulate 3DO seamlessly.
Killer Instinct Arcade should be the new benchmark for these devices. Try using mame2003-plus core in RetroArch and the 2003 rom set.

You should see TechToyTinker's Android build for the RG552 called SlashTV. I don't think Metroid Prime will run on this but Steve did find out that the CPU is set to 1.42ghz. If he gets the Source Code from Anbernic he says he can boost the Chip to 2ghz
Can you test pokemon battle revolution Yu-Gi-Oh arc v special on ppsspp I love those games so much. Can you also test aethersx2 the PS2 emulator on Android
Thank you for making this video. I was unsure after watching another video test out the Linux portion, and it wasn't that great, but after seeing how well Dreamcast, PSP, and Saturn worked makes me want to get it yesterday. I'd like to see if there's any lag when connected to a T.V. via HDMI and connecting a Bluetooth game controller to it.
Good suggestions. Add Auto Modellista for GameCube, the usual God or War for PSP, Rogue squadron both for N64 and GCU, F-zero X and GX...
This looks nice and well built but i think ill go with the Retroid 2+ it should have similar performance for half the price
Previous models looked cheaply made & had overheating problems even in reviewers' videos. You get what you pay for.

@@ryecatcher25 - You DO know that there is alternative firmware for Ambernic devices, don't you? Firmware can be updated.... shitty build quality & overheating are alot trickier..... doosh.
@@TexasHollowEarth I agree with you. Just saying that at that price the firmware should at least be ok not crap. I thi k the build quality is only ok, but at this price point should be better. But still I'll bet they sell out their first batch.
@ryecatcher25 - Fair enough.... my apologies. Check the official RetroArch page + Retro Game Corps' channel here on YT. He has done excellent videos showing some of the alternative FWs for Anbernic devices. This device is 64 bit, therefore should run the newer builds of emuELEC, once available for this new model.
Since you can hdmi out then can you use external controllers???

I agree, but on a more positive note TechToyTinker just teased a build of Slash TV for this Device. Also GameCube emulation looks pretty good. The Chipset is clocked to 1.42ghz (obviously for battery life reasons) If Anbernic gives Steve the Source Code he said he can boost the SoC to 2ghz.

@@darthkai8242 It's great to see so many people still keeping these systems alive. 3DO was an impressive system back in my childhood. Ive had great luck with PC emulators but also curious about Android.

I got to get this. This is amazing. I've only got RG 350. This will be a huge upgrade.
With PSP is it the same old PPSSPP cores that have been floating around for years with the same compatibility levels regardless of what system they're on (for example, Final Fantasy 2 psp version runs a little slow, still playable but the sound is atrocious, etc)?
On my Odroid Go Advance with Batocera on the latest beta build they added a libretro PPSSPP core. So now we have the stand alone PPSSPP and the Libretro core to choose. So probably this has, or will have both.
Please do Sega Rally and Fighters Megamix for Saturn!
In terms of emulation, it's impressive for an android handheld. I just don't know if those back pads are supposed to be L2 and R2 inputs, and if they can register as analog. Because if they did, it would work so much better for a number of titles that need it, like a lot of Gamecube and Dreamcast games. Otherwise, the lack of analog triggers, or even just two additional shoulder buttons would really limit the amount of high end games you can play on this thing

I'm mostly interested in GameCube portable emulation.Besides the Zelda, Pokemon, Mario and Fire Emblem classics, i really want to know if the new Anbernic can run the 2 Baten Kaitos games decently. Also Skies of Arcadia (the original for DC or the GC remake).

RP2+ looks like a much better choice overall. Cheaper and more powerful.
But with tiny screen (admittedly with touch), and with lesser quality analogue sticks... Still an interesting offer, for sure. Anbernic should propose touch screens for DS emulation, or old point and click titles, an Android device without it is so clunky.

I suggest the TV Launcher by Color Box Technology from the Play Store, it's so much better than the stock ATV Launcher.
I just have 2 requests both on Saturn: Final Fight Revenge and Mass Destruction
F-Zero GX for GCN, then walking around Zoah in Panzer Dragoon Saga, and Waku Waku 7 for Saturn. Best games for framerate testing imo
how does X Men vs Street Fighter run on the Saturn?? or any other game that uses the extra RAM

Can you test Tomb Raider: Anniversary on PSP. It runs terrible on the RK3326 chip. I really wonder if if the new devices coming out will be powerful enough. Thats the hardest game for my Odroid Go Advance to emulate. Such low FPS

Goldeneye 64 Vs the Dayton game he opened with... I'm going to say it runs fine.
@@kyleteal5888 not true at all. N64 is way harder to run than the Saturn for certain games. Goldeneye tends to run sloooow and choppy at times.

Very soon they will have one that plays wii better. There is a new ps2 android emulator. I haven't seen the video about it yet.

This is good for in the pocket so you don't have to use your phone.
I saw that for this emulator you must have minimum Snapdragon 845 performance and it clearly not have that performance.

Funny, Street FIghter 5 goes more well then KI and Tatsunoko xD but it Seem these two games Couses Trouble on all Systems with Emulation. What Emulation you had for Street Fighter 5? Was this a Streaming from PC?

Especially since you will have a actual warranty and the build quality and power will be better on the Steam Deck.

@@nasman7492 Go ahead and buy one, it's your money. It's a overpriced piece of junk, the chipset struggles to run a lot of N64 games even. The firmware is buggy and the build quality is crap and has no warranty. Good luck sending it back to China for a refund if it breaks. I've been burned by these Chinese handhelds many times before. Look at Taki Udon's video on this handheld and he will fully explain why it's a ripoff.

Mario Kart is one of the easiest games to emulate, I passed this Chinese things since I have my old smartphone from 2018, with Snapdragon 845 and you can get now this smartphone with 256GB memory for price lower than this Chinese console, adding 8BitDo controller with holder do the job. And Snapdragon 845 have lot more performance than this, you probably have even more powerfull smartphones than my old one. I think it is little a waste of money since this consoles are released almost every few months with little adjustments or changes like metal case. Also we are now very close to Switch price and if you have hacked Switch you also can experiment with Linux or Android builds on very powerful chipset, so for me this console is another waste of money, it is little bad idea to only use very budget chips.

Over time, emulation for the big dog systems will more than likely be solved. I'm concerned about the dog consoles with a degree of hardware complexity or obscurity. Atari Jaguar would fall on the popular end of this, with some games working but inaccurate and others not even booting. Super Acan games work but is a bit of a pain to get working.
Sure.. the typical gamer likely doesnt care about these devices but as someone whose interest in cultural preservation has grown increasingly more prominent than actually playing games for fun, its a bit depressing seeing how many games are being lost to history. The effort is there, but the # of games, hardware, etc is daunting.

Horrible port with static backgrounds & missing moves/animations. Only good thing is the PC version's soundtrack, which this version also has. Why would you want to play this trash ass version? Few people are honest about how flawed this port really is!

please test yoshis island on the newest snes9x current core. it's really hard to emulate and wanna know if it can handle super fx chips on the newest snes9x version
Please try AetherSX2. I guess Dolphin (even the MMJR build) hates Kirin, so I barely managed to make 710f run Wind waker. On the other hand, with some tweaks FFX, DMC and KH run fine. Maybe this chip can do those easier to run games too. That thing is so well optimized for a beta it's ridiculous. As for N64, have you tried Mupen64 Plus FZ? That emulator usually runs magnificent.
