It is a pretty awesome device, thank you for your kind comments! I tried N64 Goldeneye and it plays relatively well (some slowdown after going through the tunnel and slight audio stutter), although I'm lousy at the game and tend not to show how bad I really am at it lol I tried it under Android (M64Plus FZ Pro). The card shouldn't feel really loose, may not be pushed all the way in perhaps? When it is, you'll hear a slight click and it will lock into place. It's spring-loaded, press it again to pop it back out. Once fully inserted, launch your emulator of choice and select the path to the microSD card and subdirectory that contains the games for that emulator (i.e. PSX, PSP, etc.). Hello how is the Dolphin emulator set for Game cube games. I tried many tutorials for increase FPS for Dolphin mmjr1 or 2 but without any success. Gabme cube or Wii games are not playable at all. I am running at the same version of android as you are. Could you reccomend me something?
For what it's worth, Kioxia is a highly reputable company previously known as Toshiba Memory Corporation. Toshiba spun off their memory divisions into its own company which then renamed to Kioxia in 2019. They deal primarily in the system integrator and enterprise markets which is why they're not necessarily a household name. Open up a Dell, Lenovo, or HP product though and you're pretty likely to find Kioxia inside.
@@WagnersTechTalk at 5:14 you mention replacing the micro SD cards because you were not familiar with Kioxia. I was just trying to let you know they are actually from a very reputable company
@@zackkoukios8123 Thank you, I appreciate it! Right, I'm not personally familiar with that brand so I do appreciate your feedback on that. So many devices I receive have cards that have failed, I'm overly cautious perhaps.
hello friend, greetings from Chile, very good video, I have a question, download from the tutorial on how to use the upload to install the play stoter, but an error appears and I have tried with 3 micro SD. any advice to be able to have google play without changing the android? since anbernic himself is recommending not to change to android 11. Greetings and I love your channel :)
Thank you so much Sebastian, I appreciate your kind feedback! I don't know if the RG552's that are shipping now already include a version of Android with the Play Store already available. If it's not already pre-installed, the only option would be to update it. At the bottom of this section you'll find that Link 2 will take you to the image I used ( wagnerstechtalk.com/rg552/#How_to_Update ). It worked fine here and was an image provided by Anbernic.
I would try ejecting the card, reseating it and the restarting the device. If that doesn't work, could be a corrupted card. If so, you'll have to contact Anbernic unless you've made a backup of it.
Thank you RC101 Gamer! There were no Amiga games included, I did copy some to my RG552 in hopes to give you more information. However, I'm going to have to research this question more (no buttons seemed to respond). When I get a chance to investigate further, I'll add it to the RG552 Guide page, may be after Christmas to be honest but I'll add it to my todo list.
Does anyone know what the latest Linux version is? I just received my device and some games have audio lag mainly the higher gaming systems like dreamcast. So I'm trying to see if I already have the latest software. Can anyone please help?
At this section: wagnerstechtalk.com/rg552/#How_to_Update , see the alternate links for the downloads. Aside from that, there is an Alpha image available on the Batocera website. I've not tried the Alpha version, going to wait at least until it's in beta before I give that one a try.
The largest I ever purchased for a handheld is 512GB. I've heard of others who used a 1TB on the RG-350 so I have little doubt 1-2TB would likely work fine on the RG552.
thanks a lot for this very informative and entertaining review. I was waiting for an anbernic update, but I'm not sure if this device is the right one for me. the changes which you did with ease concerning different OS were for me quite intimidating...and as I'm no computer expert, I fear that I will get into trouble if I try such a thing. anyways what is a complete no-go for me is an audio delay. but it seems as the games which came with audio distortion in the previous version run smooth now? the psp portable games? anyways...I'm not quite sure if I really need the bigger screen, cause the old games are in 4:3? also form factor and size is going now in a more bigger direction. no more so versatile for packing into the rucksack. and then the device in plastic again, I want metal. perhaps it makes sense waiting for the next variations of this arnbernic type. anyways, many thanks for your great video which must have taken quite a time to make!
Thank you Wolf for your kind comments! I'm sure, at some point, Anbernic will ship the RG552 with these updates already included. Those that will need the information will be the early-adopters that have units in-transit right now. The audio delay was a surprise and not sure how their QA missed it. I always start my tests off with Donkey Kong Country, it's one I played on original hardware in my early 20's a lot and can detect serious emulation issues like this. Of course, the issue is not hardware related, all software (runs just fine in Android). But you're right, it's definitely not a pocketable gaming solution. For something cheap, small and don't care about anything PS1 (or above) the Powkiddy V90 is a great option: ua-cam.com/video/ZC63_aW9kg8/v-deo.html
@@WagnersTechTalk once again thanks for your time an the hint with the powerkiddy thing, which is definitley not bad, but I like PS games (mainly car race games), so it seems not quite working on that cpu. I have the RG 350m and I'm totally fine with it, I play it when i have longer trips on train, and I have the RG280M....just because it looks nice with that lilac/pink kinda sunburst design, haha. best pre-christmas greetings to you!
I did try installing the PS2 emulator and it wouldn't install to Android 7.1. At this point, I'm going to have to say no to PS2. However, with Custom Firmware anything "may" be possible. It would be a stretch though even with that, so please don't consider that a yes 👍
can someone who has this device, why the hell ppsspp always tells me that i do not have permission to changue to vulkan, i can not even create memory cards because of that, or change any setting at all
Got the RG552 here are my takes so far. The official Anbernic Linux is borked like crazy. When is brand new it loads games just fine but a bit later for some mysterious reason it does not want to work at all and does not load the games tried reflashing said SD card and it works for a bit but then it borks again. With Batocera it works but it does not want to load the External SD card at all no matter what I do.
Another great review! The one thing that is really holding me back is that price. I understand it’s upgraded, just am not sure if it’s worth it for me.
I have tried the updater every which way, using a variety of cards but to no avail. Either the console doesn't read and won't install the new firmware off of anything larger than a 16 GB card, or it's just borked. So incredibly pathetic for a company as prominent as Anbernic to launch a device in 2021 with basic functionality and charge an asinine price. Thank god I bought from Amazon so I can return this POS
@@WagnersTechTalk Sorry nope. Tried Samsung and Lexar. Both were larger capacity though (well, at least larger than 16). Just unforgivable to launch a device with a price tag like this with such a ridiculously lazy, low effort setup with NO instruction readily available online to someone that doesn't follow channels like this. If 16gb or less is required, it should be indicated somewhere on the product page.
WOW, just fixed it. You have to be at 100% battery to perform the update. (and maybe even on battery power on top of that). No other youtubers mention this except some european, non-english channel I randomly found. Most devices will let you update if you're over a certain battery capacity, or if there's a newer firmware present and you're not able to update at this time, it give some indication. Obviously, this is a hugely undercooked product that was rushed to market. It has a nice screen and that's about it. Even the vaunted Anbernic build quality is suspect, with another channel reporting a non-clicking right bumper. My device creaks like a cheap MSI laptop. If you've got money and patience to burn, sure, give it a whirl. But to the sane/financially constricted amount us, it's a really tall ask.
Were you attempting to update Android? If so, yes plugging the charging cable is recommended during the update. If updating the Linux (Batocera) side, you're just updating the microSD the amount of charge is less important as it's not flashing the internal firmware. Glad you got it flashed!

@@WagnersTechTalk Thanks for keeping us all up to date lad, much appreciated by anyone passionate about gaming. All the best to you and yours this Christmas Holiday..
Most welcome, Best also to you and yours! Merry Christmas and cheers to a prosperous New Year!
This is so awesome, great review! I just received mine this weekend. I see that we have the upgraded version of the both firmwares, nice.
Question why does my RG351MP ( ArkOS ) and RGB10Max2 ( emuelec ) play Metal Slug 6 in Naomi at full speed but my 552 stutters and skips frame on stock firmware ( botacera linux ) in Naomi? Any idea why?
Thank you! I've not updated lately, I am holding off for the batocera build to come out of beta (link here: batocera.org/download ).
Did you use 2 different microSD cards when upgrading Linux and Android, or did you format one after updating the other?
I used a new 16GB microSD to flash Android first. Then, these are the steps I performed for the two microSD cards I'm currently using: wagnerstechtalk.com/rg552/#Initial_Setup
How do you get playstore on

Hi Zack, interesting but curious what this has to do with the RG552?
It worked fine here and was an image provided by Anbernic.
what's the best way to change the background image on the android side? All the images I have end up off center and it's really bugging me.
This is a device that makes me want to upgrade
How would i boot into android
Please see around here 05:34
Controls take a minute to get use to..but I've been playing daily with stadia and PSPlay....runs flawless even off mobile data
The sd card is not showing up in TF2,can you help plz
I would try ejecting the card, reseating it and the restarting the device. If that doesn't work, could be a corrupted card. If so, you'll have to contact Anbernic unless you've made a backup of it.
Thanks for your help,I will promote your Web page and your youtube channel on my Facebook group retro games forever
Did this help get it working?
Nice video Wagner 🤗👍 Greetings my friend 👋👾
Thank you my friend, great to hear from you and hope you're doing well! Happy Holidays!
@@WagnersTechTalk Yes i'm fine :) i hope you too! Happy Holidays 🎅
Amazing review. Great job. Thank you very much.
Glad you liked it, thank you for watching Carlos!
Can u play games in both linex and android.
Yes, in fact the two OSes can share the game microSD.
Very nice video and guide. What does Amiga emulation run like on this? Thanks.
@@WagnersTechTalk many thanks Wagner. Have a great Christmas. Kind regards Gavin
Thank you, you too!
Does it have a sleep/wake function
Hi Bill, sorry I missed responding here. It does have a sleep under Android, however in Linux (Batocera) it doesn't appear it's been implemented yet.
@@WagnersTechTalk Thanks for the reply! I really wanted to know cause I had a rg350 and one of the main things I didn't like was no sleep/wake on it
Does anyone know what the latest Linux version is? I just received my device and some games have audio lag mainly the higher gaming systems like dreamcast. So I'm trying to see if I already have the latest software. Can anyone please help?
At this section: wagnerstechtalk.com/rg552/#How_to_Update , see the alternate links for the downloads. Aside from that, there is an Alpha image available on the Batocera website. I've not tried the Alpha version, going to wait at least until it's in beta before I give that one a try.
@@WagnersTechTalk I don't quite understand the one I received just has a 256gb sd card no other cards came with it
Anbernic doesn't sell a version with 256GB, at least according to their website: anbernic.com/products/anbernic-rg552 Where did you get yours?
@@WagnersTechTalk it was a third party guy selling them on etsy
@@WagnersTechTalk the individual put the Linux operating system on the SD card along with the games
Does the RG552 have a glass screen display?
Not 100% sure, I've not taken the unit apart but the outer cover feels like a form of acrylic.
What do you care Jono? Youre not getting one…. Are you? 😁😉
@@jonathonearl482
I like it.
But not at its current price.
Am I able to use a 1TB MicroSD Card or is 512GB the maximum size?
The largest I ever purchased for a handheld is 512GB. I've heard of others who used a 1TB on the RG-350 so I have little doubt 1-2TB would likely work fine on the RG552.
@@WagnersTechTalk Thank you for your reply.
thanks a lot for this very informative and entertaining review.
Most welcome, Thank You and I wish you and your family a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year!
Looks incredable its an upgrade im considering but is it ps2 capable?
I did try installing the PS2 emulator and it wouldn't install to Android 7.1. At this point, I'm going to have to say no to PS2. However, with Custom Firmware anything "may" be possible. It would be a stretch though even with that, so please don't consider that a yes 👍
@@WagnersTechTalk thanks for reply ill keep that in mind
bad gateway error. cant get the update :(
I added a note here with the links to the image files (not sure what's up with their guide): wagnerstechtalk.com/rg552/#How_to_Update
can someone who has this device, why the hell ppsspp always tells me that i do not have permission to changue to vulkan, i can not even create memory cards because of that, or change any setting at all
Got the RG552 here are my takes so far.
Wagner's you should video on powkiddy x18s
Hi, I have and also created a guide on it here: wagnerstechtalk.com/x18s/ Hope you enjoy it!
Can anybody recommend a shop in LA Cali that can do all these mods 4 me ? I’m not tech savvy or even have a windows cpu to adjust. Can anyone help ?
So,
It is still a Trash fire?
Another great review! The one thing that is really holding me back is that price. I understand it’s upgraded, just am not sure if it’s worth it for me.
Thank you my friend! Yeah, it's not an easy decision at that price. It's likely that the price will go down in a couple months.
Great tutorial.
Thank you Jose!
No way for that price and no ps2 is a big NO No for me , good review ☺
Thank you Ander, much appreciated and I understand!
Just buy a Kinhank 2tb hdd
"Now, I'll buy that for a dollar".

Seriously, how many outlets can one house have?
lol, I'm running out of them - it's pitiful!
Please anbernic rg552 play Gta San Andreas
I have tried the updater every which way, using a variety of cards but to no avail. Either the console doesn't read and won't install the new firmware off of anything larger than a 16 GB card, or it's just borked. So incredibly pathetic for a company as prominent as Anbernic to launch a device in 2021 with basic functionality and charge an asinine price. Thank god I bought from Amazon so I can return this POS
Perhaps try a Samsung, SanDisk or Gigastone microSD card. Some of the cheaper cards will have these issues.
It only good for linux android no most app dont work due to outdated os.
…bought BANGGOOD 230 USD and dead/stucked pixels on arrival…BAD QC!!!…rejected 20 USD compensation…dispute ended without resolution…stay away from BAD BANGGOOD!!!…the console is not good…feels already passé…90 min playtime and weird wired one and only charger…linux is a no no and old unupdatable android os (2017)…dont buy for now…and if…stay away from BANGGOOD!
