  • In this video I am showing how I shoot and develop Arista Ortho Litho film for cheap large format photography. First off I am sorry for the audio I am working on getting better microphones and sound equipment and was just using a lapel mic that is still picking up allot of background noise. This video is unfortunately long because I am filming the entire process but here are some highlights that might help. One I use a regular phone app to meter my shots and I use ISO 6 for the film. Second you need the following supplies, some developing trays "can be anything does that will hold liquid and cover the film with it", a safe light "you can use a led red light therapy lamp but not a regular red led", some general measuring and mixing supplies "can be standard kitchen measuring and mixing supplies" , The following chemicals Dektol, Kodafix, and white vinegar. Mix Dektol to stock solution per instructions. For developer mix 100ml of Dektol stock solution with 900ml of water and mix well. Mix 500ml white vinegar with 500ml water for stop bath. Finally 100ml Kodafix with 600ml water for fixer mix well. Use plain distilled water for rinse bath. This is develop by inspection so it is kind of just go until you think it is right. This film is very fine grain and can be cut to fit in just about any camera like 4x5 35mm 6x6 or even odd size pinhole cameras.

No problem at all. I still have some experiments to do to decrease shutter speeds but it's a good start.

I found a litre of 1:10 dektol will develop 4 4x5 litho negatives consistently, though I use 1:20 for lower contrast and mix 250ml for a one shot developer. It gets darker as you develop more negatives because the anti-halation backing gets rinsed off during development. You can pre-rinse the negative to remove it before developing.

I shoot arista Ortho lith (8x10 and 4x5) at asa 1 and develop in 1+ 4 dektol. I contact print Cyanotypes and this works out well for me.

That is great to know. I am sure several people using this film are making cyanotype prints with it.

Just tried a few sheets using Dextol 1:30, the development was real fast like 20 seconds. Any thoughts as to why?

That has happened to me as well and usually it means the exposure was to long but also can indicate old chemicals

@@matthewbary1 it's just light meter? Whos the creator? In addition, can i ask the deceloping time? U developed with tray. I wanna develop with tank(sp-445 which can load 4 sheets if 4x5). How about the time? Same as ur method? Or do i need extra times for 4 sheets at once?
