The quality of effective instruction is to always assume your listeners understand nothing from the offset. That is, to assume NOTHING. Proceed then at a measured rate, in small, clear increments without distraction. No, you don't even need jokes to endear yourself, your listeners are here voluntarily. This guy understands this, so few ever will. Thanks, from a slow learner.
I have watched some other instructions to use the RC-3, and this is the best. Particularly important was to learn that you must stop recording the loop progression in the first beat of the measure coming AFTER the entire progression is played. Nobody mentioned in the other videos I've seen! Thanks!
Thank you so much, Stefan. I used an RC-3 at Guitar Center yesterday and immediately saw the "recording > overdubbing > playback" (as you describe the default behavior) as a red flag that would be a "deal-breaker" for me getting an RC-3. I see several others have had this issue. Thank you for your excellent information. You are doing a great job of teaching. It is marvelously simple and direct to the point. And it is also helpful that you confess your own "learning curve" so people have more patience with themselves in learning to use it.
Thanks. Oh yes! The learning curve. I was pretty frustrated, when I started looping. I saw people do it and it looked so simple. I came to the Point, where I was convinced, that I was too stupid for making Loop music. So it's important for me to make clear, that it needs practice. But it's worth it.
Because of your tutorials, I bought an RC-300 and I will be returning to your channels in the future. Boss really should compensate you. Thank for sharing your knowledge with us.
Thanks for the clear and concise explanations and the split screen, which adds another note of clarity. I know I'll have to practice to hit the pedal at the exact right moment; I'll work on that.
I plan on purchasing a Boss RC1, and I was concerned regarding cable connections, my amplifier has only one input. Ok, now my question is answered. Thank you very much. Also, thanks for info on timing and coordination of when to step on pedal.
The first tutorial on looping that actually is listenable and I can determine what is the loop and what is being played live over the loop. VERY important for someone just starting out with looping and trying to back himself (or herself) up on rhythm (the loop) and playing lead (live).
Very nice. The RC3 programming default is Press and record Press and overdub (record) Press and playback Press and overdub. The pedal can be reprogrammed to be Press and record Press and playback Press and overdub.
really nice job man. you are one of the little youtubers that explained all necessary and nothing unnessesary! i really liked your video. its explained really good :D
Thank you Soooooo much for these tutorials! My first looper ended up being the Boss RC300......Major mental breakdown! The owners manual is not very helpful when you can't watch someone actually DOING it. Awesome, Stefan!
Oh, so true! The manual is correct, but it doesn't show how to loop from a useres perspective. That's what made me produce these videos. I spend so much time in finding things out, that I like to share with you!
Thank you for the instructions. You explanation is clear and concise. I received this looper yesterday and spent the better part of today learning about it and then - boom - I found you. Thank you. What was that super smooth song you were playing?
Great tutorial, thanks - although my experience with the RC-3 is different (and frustrating) the first press of the pedal records...but when i hit it again it plays back what i recorded AND continues to record what i play next - I need to hit the pedal twice so it just plays back -- do i have something set up wrong?
You can change the the switching order. Please check the Manual on page 19: "When you press the pedal, the RC-3 will switch its operation in the order of recording > overdubbing > playback (default setting) (p. 6). However, you can change this so that the order is recording > Playback > overdubbing (RC-2 compatible). 1. While holding down the [TAP TEMPO] button, turn on the power (insert a plug into the OUTPUT A jack). 2. Use the [DOWN ] / [UP] buttons to select the desired mode. Display Explanation: rd : Operation will switch in the order of Recording > Overdubbing > Playback (default setting). rP : Operation will switch in the order of Recording > Playback > Overdubbing (RC-2 compatible). 3. Press the [TAP TEMPO] button to return to normal operation."
Hi ... I just went to learn how to use the rc -3 loop and never got to it as I was taken up with your little rendition of your demonstration. The tune haunted me enough to just try and learn it by watching. Now that I can mimic your hypnotic music, I’m hoping this trance has a name. Would love to know the title of that song and it’s history. Signed up for your page and hope you have other trancing qualities to come! Thanks again Wild Bill Now in search for the missing loop station
Thanks for the feedback. Great to hear that you got into loop music. The music is my own composition. It has no real name, because it's not a hole song. But the working title was 'rainy days' :-)
THIS IS AN FAQ!! You can change the the switching order of the RC-3. this is a Great series and helped me immensely! i especially like how it starts by not assuming i already kno what a loopy station is? i mean, he even shows how to plug the little sucker in:) most loop tutorials i've watched start out with somebody immediately jammin.. and loopin.. and dubbin.. and i never can figure out wassup. so KuDos to Loops Unlimited!
That's exactly what I felt, when I started looping. There are so many videos with great loop music out there. I spent hours figuring out, what those guys are doing. That was my motivation to start the series!
merry xmas to me.. my RC-2 died after years of use... repair shop said it was fried so i had to replace it.. this pedal is definitely an improvement on the previous model IMO.. the auto overdub feature is sweet
Thanks Stefan! Straight forward demonstration of how to use the RC-3! I love the song you have used and would love to learn how to play it myself. Do you happen to have the tab for this? From reading teh comments I understand that this is your owen piece of music, however I would still love to play this if you are willing to share the tab? Thanks again :)
How do you clear what you've put into the pedal, whether it be because you've made a mistake or just want to start something else? I've still got the same mistake going on, and on and on etc.
takineti If it's the first loop, I have to stop and reset the looper. Bad news. When doing overdubs, I have the possibility to undo the last loop without deleting everything. Please check out my second video "Overdub and Undo". There I explain the details. Have fun and loop on!
Thank you so much for this tutorial. I got an rc3 from my girlfriend last year and I've been struggling on how get the timing down. Your video is very VERY helpful and I really commend on your explanation as well as your skills in the guitar. Looking forward to more of your videos!
The clearest most straightforward Boss RC-3 tutorial that I have ever seen. Thanks so much.
The quality of effective instruction is to always assume your listeners understand nothing from the offset. That is, to assume NOTHING. Nice video. You're clear, straightforward, and concise. My favorite characteristics of a You Tube video!
A simple yet brilliant refresher for me as I haven't used my RC3 for three years! Cheers mate!

very nice and clear presentation
Thanks. That was the goal.

You are welcome. Yes it would be nice if BOSS would apreciate, what I do, but I think they haven't even noticed my work...
Just starting my looping journey, thank you.
Thank you for this great session 🎉
Simply the best explanation on looping for anyone who is new to looper pedals. Stephan tu es le meilleur.

Absolutely awesome 💙💙👍
Thanks for the clear and concise explanations and the split screen, which adds another note of clarity. I know I'll have to practice to hit the pedal at the exact right moment; I'll work on that.
Oh yeah! That's the key to loop magic!
Thanks for watching.
Very clear thanks. Timing is the biggest hurdle for me!
Yeah! I know what you mean. That was the hardest part for me too. But keep on trying. It will get better and better.....
I plan on purchasing a Boss RC1, and I was concerned regarding cable connections, my amplifier has only one input. Ok, now my question is answered. Thank you very much. Also, thanks for info on timing and coordination of when to step on pedal.
Very good demo! Cool chords!

important!
Really nice playing
Thank you so much!
Great job 👍🏽

Thank you for your reply, but I seem to be stuck with a bad first loop that I can't get rid of.
I loved you in Its Always Sunny In Philadelphia!
Can you record base and guitar and drums on that loop station it sounds good what you were playing
