recently got a 1/17000 scale model. the vessel is a thing of beauty. if properly mass produced, opponents not having plot armor, and the command not being incompetent or negligent. the MS carrier ships of UC are a work of art.
There are three truths in winning wars and that is Firepower, Mobility, and more Carrying Capacity which this massive warship had in spades. The Titans for all their faults could not be denied that they knew how to build this impressive ship, and I would have love to see this ship more in the UC timeline.
13:47 real-world navies have that kind of naming all the time. For example, the USS Missouri was named after the state of Missouri in the US. However, it's home port was in Pearl Harbor, and it is chosen to be there permanently as a museum ship as well
Great video! The Dogosse Giar class is just like the US super aircraft carriers (General Revil ~ Nimitz, etc). I won't be surprised if they have more similar ships in different sectors.
gundam 0079: amuro needed support from his teammates distracting the rest to defeat a fleet of 3 musais and then 2 musais and a chibey. gundam z : take down the dogose gear they need an obscene amount of newtype people just to take down their mobile suits and it was destroyed by an internal betrayal when no one expected it gundam unicron: a clone of char wipes out all the mobile suits on the ship and the ship's anti-aircraft guns are so shitty they can't stop self-propelled rockets. As the decades go by gundam is slowly becoming more and more stupid when it comes to representing consistency in its own world, victoria featured a bit of this at the end but the series still showed the threat of ships with the infamous motoroad fleet.
Victory did a great job in portraying ships, be it by proving how effective large cruisers and battlecarriers can be (Reinforce Jr, Squid, Adrastea) but also by showing that Light cruisers and patrol ships still have their place (Reinforce, Fishbone/Sinope)
There is also a significant improvement in mobile suit power between 0079 and unicorn. Warship technology by comparison is relatively stagnant and partially held back by "old guard" ideas about what makes for a good warship. By unicorn a "good" warship really would have just been something like a MS bus who's primary purpose would be moving and supporting the most effective fighting tool out there, the mobile suit. You also have to compare the skill and ability of the piolets here, in your 0079 example this is Amuro near the beginning of his career; for Z the Dogose Gear was purpose built for exactly the kind of conflict it found itself in and preformed like it. By unicorn the Char clone was pulling off the same kinds of feats as the OG did in the OYW, but with a much much more powerful suit than a custom zaku II and as noted the advancement of MS technology and capability was much faster than that of warships.
@@zachelkins1229 Yeah but those two underbarrel rockets fired at extreme range against a ship with 43 AA turrets that were at teh time not distracted by any other threat probably should have been point defensed even with Minovsky interference,
in MS Thunderbolt Manga Vol 19 which takes place in UC.0085 you get a very good look at a Birmingham-Class Carrier Refit with very substantial MS facilities added to the original hull. Had 4 visible MS hangars and 4 (at least) catapults and seems to have kept all the original armament of the Birmingham as well. and its loaded with about 20 GM Quel visible standing on the substantial launch and recovery decks. its basically the direct predecessor to the Dogosse Giar. which fits quit nicely into this lore!
Great Video but like many ships and MS, they could not escape the plot and Zeon bullshit. Still I have a couple of questions. 1: despite the Birmingham Class not supposed to carry MS, in 13.04 of the video it looks like a launching platform for said MS. 2: also despite the earth federation refocusing on the big gun doctorine, we see a lot of GM Type C. Does that mean the Magellan and Salamis 0083 refit were able to carry MS despite them filled with guns? 3: if that was the case what was the Ms capacity of the 0083 Magellan and Salamis refit Thanks again for the video and the hard work you put into it.
-What you see behind the Birmigham is not a launching ramp, but a recovery deck. Basically the Birmigham can land shuttles there instead of homing them in the belly like the Magellan. In the case of the Dogosse Giar, the recovery deck is doubled and connected to a mini hangar so it become an emergency launching ramp, but not in the Birmigham case. - by rewatching Stardust, we see that the GM Kais are not launched from the ships, but from Solomon advanced outpost. This being said, Magellan Kai 83, Salamis Kai 83 (and Birmigham) can still transport them on their hull like their pre-refit version
@@gundamfacts ah, I forgot about the space shuttle/launch. Out of curiosity how many Ms could the Salamis, Magellan, and Birmingham carry Ms attached to the hull. I imagine not a lot since every flat surface is filled with guns.
Always fun to learn something new! Can't wait for the Barzam développement history!! Could you also make a video about the gm QUEL the rx-121 Hazel and RX-122 Keldereck
@@gundamfacts I won't lie. With the size of TB Birmingham, I got Warhammer 40k vibes from how big it looks. Of course, it isn't 1km long but for carrier standards in UC it's a bit much.
If there ever was a third Dogosse Giar class ship, it should be named Admiral Wyatt and panted all-white like the Birmingham. Hell it should be a hybrid of the Birmingham and Dogosse Giar focused on firepower just like the General Revil was focused on MS carrying capacity.
Good video. Can't wait for you to do the variants in Pegasus class. That Ticonderoga ship, even though its in the Thunderbolt time line, is certainly up there for it to be a Pegasus class ship.
I enjoy the newtype elements to a degree but I hate when it just devolves to "space magic" to force the plot in the needed direction. The General Revil is a super cool ship. 80 MS. On a single ship. Even the lower number of 48. Remember the White Base was designed for 6 and a couple vehicles. This thing was an order of magnitude more powerful.
Interesting conspiracy theory to consider: The Federation may still have the Gwadan's sister ship that secondary material claims existed (Though Haman did not use as her flag it in the 1st Neo Zeon War because it lacked reentry most likely) WQit the General Revil destroyed by newtype bullshit it may be the largest (Non hydrogen tanker) ship left in their reserves. They also owned Axis itself for long enough to have taken out all the shipyard facilities needed to keep the Gwadan's sister operational.
Although it is smaller than axis Zeon's flagship like the gwadan, it is still respected by me due to that amazing entrance in unicorn Also A potential topic which can be covered in future
When did thunderbolt hit uc91? Ive been reading the manga and in vol 19 the plan for the zeta era suits was just shown and the presence of gm customs seems like it is uc 81. Might just be cc error then
If anyone from the comment section will given a chance to command a battleship in Universal Century franchise. Which battleship will you choose and why?
Actually, I find the fact the general revel could only be stopped by new-type shenanigans a point in it's favor.
That's a fair point
@paladin danse Until some idiot decides to fly it next to a city sized bomb.
I totally see your point, but it still makes for a less interesting story.

One of the coolest ships in Gundam.

The General Revil is a beast!!!! 80 suits max?! That's insane!!!!
Still outclassed by the 250 MS carriage of the Dolos and the 100 MS carriage of the Gwadan
