This was extremely helpful, like everyone else has said. I have definitely been considering several companies you mentioned. I love H&H and I am so glad they came out on top. One thing Angie does not have is Pony Express 😂😂😂
Yes! I love both the Hive and Honey base and Peach State. I had to stop using Midwest's because of the residue it was leaving. I was sad about that because the odor neutralizer did work really well. But it's not worth it if it's making people's floors slick.
Would love to see a follow up on this about which scents do or don’t make a good room spray. Seasonal, year round, not recommended, best companies, etc. Thanks for considering!
Thanks for being here! I appreciate the suggestion ☺️ I have tested Makesy, Candle Science, Hive & Honey, Midwest and The Flaming Candle oils in each of the top 3 (my picks) bases. I used the same oil in this video so we could get an even read across all of them. In my personal testing, Makesy performed the best. Their oils are super strong! CS citrus scents performed very well, Midwest floral and woodsy scents did well, and TFC earthy and smoky scents performed very well. I don’t use a lot of gourmand scents though those tend to have trouble in room spray and reed diffuser applications because of the vanillin in them. The best thing to do is test and see what works and what your clients like. I also use black bottles so cloudiness is not a concern for me. The key to my faves here is that you don’t have to shake the bottle before spraying. I love that.
Me too! ❤️ Ok I got those black bottles from Liquid Bottles. They’re great! No leakage and the sprayer is a fine mist. Def check them out if you’re in the market!
@ Oh wow! Thank you so much 😍 I will def be checking them out on my next haul of supplies. I just bought Hive & Honeys round glass bottles. They’re gorgeous for sure, but to fit my “ aesthetic,” I adore the black. 💯
I'm so glad you made this video! I live within driving distance to H&H. I'm new to candles in general, and this might be a good way to do something constructive while waiting for these stupid candle tests. 😅
I REALLY appreciated your video! You have answered a lot of my questions and the details were everything!! Love your content. 😊 I recently purchased from H&H and love their products.
Thank you, Vinny! I know, I just had so many to test. 😅 Hive & Honey also just came out with theirs so it was a late contender. It is so good and if you’re already shopping there, it’s easy to pick up and meet that free shipping threshold. Maybe I’ll try CS sometime in the future
Love this Thanks! If I am making a 10 oz room spray and the maximum usage rate is 16.43%. What formula do I use to figure out how much oil to add? Thanks is advance.
hello! before figuring out the formula, see what the max load your base can hold is. i've found that a good strong scent is usually between 3-5% depending on the oil though definitely test different percentages and oils and see what works best for you. Here is an example using 5% load: Total Volume (oz) × FO % = Fragrance Oil (oz) / 10oz × 5% = 0.5oz. So you will need 0.5oz of fragrance oil for a 10oz bottle at 5% load.
I would love to see the dulceria spray compared too. I’m still trying to decide what to use. I thought base from 3 companies so far. This video was super helpful! I love that Hive & Honey and Dulceria are body spray safe too. Just trying to decide if the higher price point of Dulceria (which is low to no alcohol & low voc) is worth it versus the HH which has alcohol.
Thank you! I’m glad this video was helpful! I won’t be comparing other bases anytime soon. I did 8 😅 My wallet can’t take another round of testing 😆 Have you tried any of the bases I covered? I’d say your best bet is to go with Hive & Honey or Peach State as they’re both body/room spray and not drying on the skin. Both formulations use a plant based oil alcohol that is safe for people and the environment.
Very useful! I appreciate the review as I'm in Canada and it quickly becomes costly to order from different US suppliers to do testing. How many sprays on average would you say you're doing when testing a room spray in your bedroom (total between curtains and bed skirt). Thanks!
Thank you! ☺️ I spray each curtain and bed panel once for a total of 7 sprays. 4 curtain panels and 3 bed panels. The bed isn’t a skirt it’s a fabric frame with drawers so I think the thicker material really hold the fragrance well! Establish a baseline spray test that you can hold all of them to. It’s been key for me to figure out which scents to launch with. Hope that helps!
@@couturehomeandbody Got it! I don't spray as much in one go because it gets overwhelming (at 5%). I also spray in the air, which after watching your video makes me realize is silly. 🤡 No wonder I find the scent doesn't stay. I'll try spraying and dashing. 😅 And come back later to see how it is once it settled. Thanks again!
It depends on the FO load you’re using. For example, if you want 5% load, take the total weight and divide by 5%. That will give you the base weight. Subtract the base weight from the total weight to get your fragrance oil weight. 4oz / 1.05 = 3.8oz base 4 - 3.8 = .2oz fragrance
Thanks for this. It’s quite timely for me as I am testing/comparing room spray bases myself. Well actually I’m just comparing 2 right now; MWFC & Peach State. Unfortunately, I’m seeing the residue issue with the MWFC base on my floors 😢 and even though I like the Peach State’s base performance a lot - it took fooooreeever to get my order from them (like 3 weeks) and they had a notice on their site that processing time was 2-4 days. So, that kind of put me off of Peach State. But, luckily now I have a couple other ones I can test out thanks to this video.
I’m so glad this video is helpful! Yeah it’s crazy, idk what happened with Peach State. I have been told by many people that their order is taking 3+ weeks to ship. At that point, mine as well order with Deep South! Pony Express shipping is not gonna work! 😂 It’s another reason why I chose Hive & Honey because Angie is ON IT and orders ship quickly. Def give H&H a try. It’s identical to PS.
@@couturehomeandbody Great review!! I ordered Peach right after they launched it and it took about two weeks with the massive orders they had. HH is always within a day or two excluding weekends/holidays. They're both fantastic. A note, shipping cost matters because that can make one much more expensive than the other. My shipping makes them both almost dead even, but I live very close to HH whereas Peach starts at $10 shipping for me. Aside, I'd love to see a reed diffuser base review, perhaps after Peach launches theirs... *cough* 😆
Thank you! Yes, shipping is def a factor which is why I mention in the video to hit that free shipping threshold with HH. You’re so lucky to be close to them! Are you close enough to pick up? I am testing different reed bases though, I won’t have a video for at least a few months. It’s on pause until I get through the Fall/Winter season. 😊
@@couturehomeandbody I’ve been testing reed diffuser bases as well for the past few months (the science nerd in me is geeking out at the weekly “weigh ins” 🤓), it takes so long to test these but every room of my house smells amazing all the time 😁. I’ve tried Nature’s Garden, MWFC and Candle Science’s Eco diffuser base. I think MWFC is my fave. NG’s was too strong smelling OOTB - it disappeared once I added FO but just don’t like the idea of such a strong chemical smell in the base to begin with. I love H&H as a supplier in general. I’ve used her for FOs, waxes and wicks in the past but haven’t tried any of her bases. I’ll need to put in an order to test them out ‘cause I like supporting her business too 👍
What are the ingredients of the CS base? If the strong smell disappears and it’s performing well or better than others I would consider sticking with it! I love the science of making, too 😁 Ty for sharing!
Love Ohio but they’re always sold out so I switched to Dulceria it’s pricier but it has a higher fragrance load 15% I believe. I personally feel like it gets stronger the more I let it sit.
Thank you for sharing, Lisa! Do you need to use that high of a load in the Dulceria base? What is your sweet spot? Their base is already pricey then you add a higher FO load and that will tank your COGS. My top choices didn’t need anything higher than 5% because they were plenty strong! IMO it’s a strange marketing angle that the base can hold 15%. Who would use that much? 😂

Yessss 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻 The residue is not worth the risk from a business perspective 😅 I love Angie and Hive & Honey!
Ahhh yesss this video was so helpful, thank you for also sharing tips about testing room spray bases at the end ❤
Thank you ☺️ also, don’t EAT the room spray. Super important 🤭

CS is similar to the Mid West it falls right down and at 5% fragrance it disappears quickly. I really wanted to love it. 😢
@@HairCrazyChick oh wow! thank you for reporting back and letting us all know!! appreciate you ❤
