Excellent video Sergio, for the small size and compact camera for 14bit or 12 bit the EOS M is a fantastic camera if used carefully with Magic lantern, thank you for the detail and time you spent making this video
Thanks!! I love the EOS M and honestly I don’t see big difference in sharpness when filming in 1x3 and 1x1 modes compared to the 5D. So I prefer to use it in those modes: it’s more noisy compared to the 5D III but adding Noise reduction in Davinci they look very similar with the advantage of getting real time view with crop mood using the EOSM
Great as always Sergio, would love to see more of you creative side! Looking only at how you make your videos, we all know you’d make an awesome movie.
Kudos to Sergio for this comparison! Absolute timing since I'm actually thinking about upgrading to Full Frame while still getting that RAW goodness from Magic Lantern.
Hellooo Sergio! Perfect timing and excellent comparison video. I just picked up a Canon 5D MKIII second hand and I'm absolutely loving it. There is a subtle difference between the images of the EOS M and 5D and the low light performance of the 5D makes it worth the upgrade. Grazie mille!!!
Great video. Thank you. I love both Cameras equally. The portability of the M and the lower light processing and less crop from the 5D3. A great combination to have at my disposal.
High production value - kudos to you, Sergio. Would a gimbal make much of a difference vs handheld ? I’m sticking to my EOS M and IR converted EOS M. Love the small form factor
@kingpossie thank you!! Yes a gimbal or a a lens with optical stabilization like the one I show as example in the video, helps a lot with rolling shutter .
Muchas gracias! I`m very happy with my T5i`s and love the flippy screens. It`s nice to know the do`s and don `ts of the equipment for best results with Magic lantern . I`ll keep an eye on that moire and rolling shutter. For some reason I like the h.264 strait out of camera and the 3x crop video that extends the focal length of any lens.
Thank you!! with an external monitor on the 5D I can see at the same time the image in both camera display and HDMI external monitor. I don’t remove the mirror. On the eos with an external monitor you can only see the image on the external monitor but not on the camera display.
@@russo-filmmaking oh that makes sense, for some reason the lighting made it so I wasn't sure, haha. I tried 3:2 mode on my EOS M crop mood and it can't preview at all, not sure why
@@russo-filmmaking I don't even use an external monitor with Magic Lantern, on the EOS M camera I just get a pink screen or frozen screen in 3:2 mode, but it's fine in any other mode
@@VietinghoffAlex ah ok. It’s very strange that this is happen. I don’t have this problem with 3:2 using crop mood (the Danne version), I get a normal preview in both camera display or external monitor.
Sergio, what Compact Flash do you recommend? 128gb or 256gb Sandisk extreme pro? I’m using 256gb SD Sandisk extreme pro, and I’m about to purchase de Compac Flash Card for the 5d markiii for recording with both cards at the same time. You think that will work fine? Having two 256gb cards? Or is too much? Maybe the 128gb will work better?
Gracias!!
An excellent comparison. I don’t have a full frame camera, but have wondered for a long time what the advantages might be with a larger sensor and maybe extra processing power. After your tests it makes me admire the EOS M & Crop Mood even more seeing how it can keep up with a much more deluxe camera. Thank you!
Correct: a part the differences in HFR and aliasing in 3x3 mode and video noise in general, for the rest I prefer the EOS M when shooting in high resolutions like 1x3 and 1x1. You get real time preview with crop mood compared to the 5D where the preview in these modes is a kick in the ass, and I don’t see noticeable differences in quality. Thanks!!
The EOS M has a crop factor in all modes. From 1.61x to more than 3x depending on the mode. And the 5D doesn’t have any crop if you shoot in 3x3 16:9 or 3:2 or 45fps mode or 1x3 5.7k anamorphic mode. In 1x 1 mode it has a 1.6 crop factor. I made one video on the EOSM crop mood and one video on 5DIII where I explain all the crop factors in detail. Rolling shutter is noticeable in all the modes different from 3x3.
I’m not sure, if your light conditions are good then use ISO100. If you shoot in low light is better to use iso200 or iso 400 than iso100. You can also use iso800, it’s a little noisy but you can get rid of the video noise easily in davinci resolve. Thanks!!
Thank you. I've just loaded ML on my 5D3. I'm trying to record 60p video with using most of sensor size. Which mode and setting is the best? I don't need highest res. as long as it is sharp enough. I do have external recorder.
Thank you!! in this video I tested HFR modes inlcluding 60fps and how to set the camera when using these modes ua-cam.com/video/Ns0OECXexK4/v-deo.html any way when you shoot 60FPR you can only get a 2.39:1 aspect ratio
Hi i own a canon 60d. I have a good deal in getting 5d mark 3+ mark 4+24-105 lens at the price equivalent to cost of a zv e10 with kit lens. What should I buy. I want it for my youtube
The 5D Mark IV and ZV-E10 are fine for UA-cam videos, but honestly, their limitation to compressed formats, 8-bit color depth, is a major downside, at least for me. As a filmmaker, I draw my inspiration from movies and classic cinematography. That’s why I prefer using Magic Lantern, which allows me to shoot in raw at 12-14 bit. It has its limitations, but once you learn how to use it, you can achieve a true cinematic look with rich colors and authentic film-like textures. Magic Lantern isn’t for everyone-it’s challenging to unlock its full potential, and not everyone has the patience to study and master it. Many people prefer cameras that handle most tasks for them, with features like autofocus or built-in stabilization, which are far from the manual, raw experience of analog film. Cameras like the EOS M or the 5D Mark III, with Magic Lantern installed, come closest to offering that true film-like quality and control reminiscent of analog filmmaking
@russo-filmmaking I'm personally more inclined towards the 5d mark 4 although it's old.im planning to use it for atleast 3 years. Should I buy it or wait for sometime ,save money buy a new modern camera
@@HarshPatel-kk3kx you better than other know what are your needs, and how you will use the camera. So if you are inclined towards the 5D4 go for it. I never use it so I can't say more about it. I only know that it generate 8bit compressed files and in my specific case, because I'm used to do heavy color grade on my footages I know that it won't work for me.
