Still have my Mark III. Have the GFX 50S II now but for some reason haven't been able to let go of the 5D. Ergonomics are just perfect to me. The thing feels unbreakable.
Also the 5D Mark III, my first and current full frame camera and I'm using it for all my work! I mostly use it with the Sigma 35mm f/1.4, legendary combo!
Nothing like SLRs or DSLRs for that matter. I proudly own three iterations of the legendary Canon 5D series, the Classic, 5DII and 5DIII. The Classic is special for close to film-look images. They are beautiful straight out of the camera. The 5DII is another legend. I love its image quality. If I have to take a single camera for everything to a distant place; it’s going to be 5DII. Now, on 5DIII. This has been gifted to me recently by my son. It clicked more than 215k shutter actuations however; I expect it to exceed 500k shots based on what I’m observing on the net about 5DII. The 5DIII has taught me the definition of a real all-rounder DSLR. It’s great for landscape, portraiture and wildlife photography as well. Just three days ago I discovered its built-in HDR option too which has brought additional joy for me. Undoubtedly, this is one of Canon’s best outputs for many years. BTW, as a hobbyist photographer, I love shooting only with real cameras - not with the smartphone updates. Thank you for the video. Fantastic images, loved those.
Ive been a professional portrait photographer for 10 years this year. I got my first 5d3 in February of 2014, has 400k+ on it now, for $3000. I just picked up another one with 69k on it for $350! I also got a 1dm2 for $185 as well. I love them so much!
Never been a professional but I do make money as a side gig since 4-5 years and I still use two 5d3s , they are as good now as when they camd out . Sigma 60 art and the 70-200 2.8 is ii are on my cameras 90 procent of the time
Having just picked up the 5Dc and the 5Dii, I'm utterly blown away by the image quality of these older systems. The 5Dc in particular is a camera I needed, but never knew I did. Been a mirrorless shooter from the beginning, and was getting increasingly frustrated with all the extra bloatware on camera bodies now.... they're more and more like using computers, and the 5Dc and 5Dii have been an absolute breathe of fresh air. No bells, no whistles.... just straightforward usability delivering stellar image quality, for pocket money change. People forget that something like the 5Dii was a flagship camera upon it's release, what made it great then still makes it great now. I picked one up for one hundred quid! This camera was 2.5k when released! Crazy. Love the colours, hardly have to edit any of the images.
I sold my Canon R6 for an second hand 5D III because of the Color and haptic. I think the Raws are getting flatter and flatter also because of the Dual Pixel and PDFA / Phase detection technology
Some would call you crazy but I agree. I’ve shot on the new canons and they do have nice color science but it does seem a bit flatter when it hits software. That would be a good video imo. Thanks for watching 🙏🏼
I have fully kitted sony, nikon, and canon mirrorless systems and can tell you with 100% certainty that general rendering has been fundamentally altered by mirrorless sensor technology.
I went from a Rebel to D750 to an R5 and an R. Not having ever used a 5D camera, I’ve considered trading my R for a 5D III or IV. Or going back to Nikon DSLRs. Part of me feels uninspired in the mirrorless realm.
I have a R6 and I'm giving thought to selling and getting a mark III for the ML RAW video. The dynamic range and colour just look great. Compared to the R6.
I had a 5Diii from like 2014-2020 and ever since then I’ve basically switched to a different camera once a year and nothing has felt right. Nothing has felt as intuitive and natural to use as the 5Diii, that thing just felt like an extension of my body. Everything I’ve used since (EOS RP, EOS R, and R6) has required too much looking, checking, thinking, instead of just feeling. Like something as simple as the lock switch- on the 5Diii I can feel the lock switch without looking and know if I’m locked but I can’t do that with the R or R6. The buttons on top of the modern bodies are just dropped at random all over the place, I still need to stop and look down to know whether I’m about to hit record or lock- the older bodies with their top buttons in a straight row took like two afternoons to feel familiar. Long story short, I think I’m going back to the 5Diii.
Deployed to Iraq with the 5DmkII Made history with that camera! After multiple publications, I came home and bought a 5D OG and was blown away by the images it produced. It’s Digital Camera with the soul of film. Now, I own a 2nd hand mkIII and I’m pretty impressed at the improvements from the mkII. The OG 5D has enough limitations to feed the creativity. Great video! Very inspiring. Curious as to the ballpark range of how much a similar shoot would cost? You have a dope eye!
@@malayneum Well, if you’re familiar with film, the grain it produces is similar. I’d like to think it’s due to the ISO and sensor. The color renditions are beautifully unique to the 5D series. And, personally for me, it produces a certain level of limitations that exercise my creativity. Lastly, On the 5D mkIII, while I like it’s capabilities, it’s sterile and produces clean imagery. But too clean for certain scenarios. One of my first cameras was a Mamiya ZE & Nikon D300s. I’ve always shot digital and film/film-esque cameras simultaneously. Here’s a simpler parallel; Grain for film cameras is like THD (Total Harmonic Distortion) for analog gear in music production. They produce character that the digital doesn’t have but often tries to emulate.
You can really feel that it's been designed to be used for a whole day, day after day while you're using this camera, and it's a magical feeling. I bought my 5D3 in 2022, it was my first camera since having a Nikon D7000 for roughly 3 years after release. I sold my whole kit after falling on some hard times. I'm thrilled to be shooting again, a bit of a shock to cross over to the Canon side for me. As others have echoed, the 5D3 is a masterclass in ergonomics and ease of use. After spending 2 years with it everything comes so naturally, I can make it do whatever I want with very little resistance. Often without looking away from the viewfinder. A Sigma 40/1.4 Art practically lives on it, and I also have the usual collection of EF-L zooms in f4 varieties. I only ever shoot for fun and I don't make money from my gear so it's practically all I could dream for as a hobbyist. I have access to an EOS RP I can borrow from time to time as well for when I want to have a play with EVF and some of my vintage MF lenses, but it feels a world apart from the 5D3. I'm also constantly scouring my local used marketplaces for an OG 5D at a nice price. One came up with a nifty fifty for $200CDN but I missed it sadly. Mine is coming soon, I trust. Some day I'd like to get a gimbal that could handle my heavy setup, try one of those crazy ML builds and see what I could do with video, but one thing is for sure: I will die with this camera.
OMG. This was hard to watch. I sold my 5D3 in 2019, and I’ve always regretted it. I bought it when they came out in 2012, and as others have commented, it just felt right. I sold it because I wasn’t using it much. Rookie error. Now I’m not working 50-70 hours a week, I want it back.
I have a 2nd hand 5diii and using it for a year and half. Eventhough my main camera now is the EOS R. I still love the sound of my 5dm3. i love the crisp of the image that it can produce. Most of the comments are right. Mirrorless cameras are flatter than 5dm3. FYI, the shutter of the 5dm3 was replaced before I got it. The SC is around 999K plus.
😅 that’s a ton of images, if I had to guess mine is wayyyy up there. I should have actually put how many actuations I had in the video to further prove how this camera stands the test of time. Thanks so much for watching.
Man, your photographs look amazing. Very unique composition and beautiful editing! I‘ve just downgraded from an R6 II to the 5D III. Might sound crazy but I was never really happy with the files I got from the R6. I have owned the 5D III years ago, it was my first professional full frame camera and started my career. A few weeks ago I felt nostalgic and started to play around with a few old photos from that time. And wow was I surprised how easy it was to get a great look out of them. The files from the 5D have a creamy, silky quality to them that I absolutely love. I currently don’t need the bells and whistles that the R6 offers so I pulled the trigger on a used 5D III in mint condition for 500 bucks, shot counter is at just under 20k. I will never ever sell that camera again.
Got mine early 2013, around March. TO THIS DAY I use it every week day in the studio with my trusty 24/105L. Around 200 shots a day, some days I broke 1000. I shot thousands of videos, last one being an interview, 2 days ago. Amazingly, it NEVER needed servicing. Best camera ever. I’ve been wanting to go mirrorless for a while, but I have really no reason to retire this amazing camera that I love so much. I’m glad you’re enjoying it as well.
This is so cool, I just last night popped open an old Lightroom Catolog and said wow I am going out this weekend with my old 5D3, many of my favorite pictures were made with that beast. I think it’s the perfect blend of ergonomics and sensor tech.
Probably the most beautiful 5D ever made at the time and still very complete today despite the mirrorless world. I still work on it today with a classic 1DX and am the happiest man alive.
I was really young (about 14) when I started getting into photography & film making. My first camera was the Canon 600d, and I absolutely rinsed it! It sparked that creativity of filming and taking photos, and has changed my life. Sadly, I no longer have it. However, the Canon 5d Mark III has always been my dream camera, and I ordered one just last night. I kind of fell off from photography and film making for a few years, relying a lot on Go Pros and iPhones for what I currently do... very excited to explore more and ignite the passion again!
I just made the decision earlier on today to buy myself a 5D mkiii after years of not owning a camera. I used to have an 80D which I used for a lot of things, portraiture, nightlife, product photography etc. and have felt myself slowly going MAD for not having the same creative outlet I used to. This video and seeing your images has given me so much hope already my brain is like on rapid fire ideas that I KNOW I can execute hehe. SO EXCITED
Okay, well. That's it. Yes, I'm going to buy a 5d mark iii again. Switched from Sony A7 iv etc to Fuji last year and been looking for a canon. Now looking back at my old pictures with the 5D Mark III and 6D... damn I need it again. This video just made the decision for me. Thanks!
Been shooting the 5Dseries for 15 years now. 5D2, 5D4, and now 5DsR I still to this day love the files from the 5D2 specially in natural light. The 5DsR is the camera I grab for most work as I really like the files from that also. Tempted to pick up a 5D Classic also.
I am one with my 5D M III. I feel it is the very best of the five day series and it never gets in the way of my creativity. I love the layout the organics over great, I do have a 6D but without that screen on top I always reach for the 5D mark three even though the sensor is a tiny bit cleaner on the 60 at higher ISO’s. that camera is pure perfection. I have a Sony and a canon mirrorless camera but outdoor in bright sunlight. I really struggle to use use them. I love an optical viewfinder as there is no problem dealing with sunlight and it just takes me back to the days of my beloved canon FTB from 1975.
Even as 2024 heads to a close, and a few years back, moved to R5’s for my commercial work, I couldn’t bring myself to sell on all my 5D MkIII’s, so kept one back, I still enjoy it, and use it for non work related stills, more than I have ever used the R5’s, but also, it gets an outing at most commercial shoots - definitely the D5 MkIII remains my best camera, the R5’s are ‘just work tools’ , a feeling I never attributed to the 5D MkIII
Thanks for the video. Spot on. The perfect camera is the one you have in your hand. On Canon 5D Mark III; it's an all-rounder camera indeed. I'm a hobbyist and got this camera as a gift from my son. He used it extensively for wedding photography for four years. A year ago he concentrated on film-making and gave up still photography. It clicked more 200k actuations but, I expect it to exceed 500k clicks. I use it for landscape, street-life and wildlife photography. I do own other time-tested pro bodies like 5DII and 1DIV which are excellent. But 5DIII is able to do everything. I love it. Not into videos so, couldn't care less about it. Mirrorless camera is something that never impressed me. It's not superior to DSLRs rather in many areas it's inferior. Thanks again.
Totally agree on this video..I purchased this camera back in 2012 I believe and the reason I chose this one was because at the time the OG Black magic 2.5 K was in back ordered..till this day I still have this camera and used it up until 2022 for my wedding videography..it has made me over 100k $ since and will be dedicating an episode to beginner filmmakers who want an affordable option with amazing image quality..let me not get into the vast amount of lenses available! This camera is a gem as well as the 5DMK2. This is a camera I will never part with..! Great episode!
Nice work. I’m glad people are still talking about the 5D series, they really are amazing cameras. I regret selling my 5D mk ii, that camera had magic for me. Love the look of your work, the behind the scenes is excellent. Great video.
Hey man, thanks so much for your kind words. The 5D is such an amazing camera, if people could get off of specs they’d understand that this is more than enough for a photographer in 23.
Not exactly the same, but the same principle... I use several modern mirrorless cameras with the latest tech, but when ever I look through my old hard drives from when I was using my 2008 Nikon D700, a 12mp full frame camera that on-paper has been surpassed many times over, I wonder why I kept buying newer and newer gear. The images from that old camera can stand head to head with anything my newer gear can deliver, as long as you are shooting to have images, not a collection of pixels to zoom in on. My D700, now 15 years old still functions perfectly and I'll never sell it.
May not be exactly the same but the exact same concept. Glad you feel the same way. Thanks for watching and taking time to comment! The Nikon D700 is a beast, used one only a few times but it was nice to work with.
The D700 and D3 are the ones that offered the best low light performance thanks to the 12MP on an FF sensor (larger cells in the sensor that captured light better).
I really like your work! I’m just buying a used 5D mk3 that comes with the kit 24-105 f4. I always wanted one, but the 7D was better for my budget at the time. I’ve been super happy with the 7D mk1 for the past 14 years, but the 5D will be a really nice pairing with it for landscapes and videography…without breaking the bank. It’s so important to not spend everything on the camera and get the proper lenses for whatever your subject needs are. Used equipment is a great way to make it all come together and stay in a reasonable budget.
I shot Canon for years with the 5D series, loved my experiences with it. A few years ago I jumped over to Fujifilm and loved it, but as time went on I felt that draw back to Canon with their new EOS line of mirrorless bodies, I finally picked up a RP with an adaptor so I can use that 35 1.4 I had still, I guess knowing full well I would come back 😊. Last week I traded a xpro2 and a 56 1.2 lens for a 5DIII and a 50 1.2 straight up, the second I held it in my hand ……it just felt right. Thanks for saying what I have been thinking brother
Since I got my R6 with rf lens a few years ago, I use my 5D mark iii less before. There are some color difference between older sensor and new sensor. I feel like 5D sensor is easier to get more color back after editing, and R6 sometimes freezes more in “red, pink, orange” color science. Of course R6 has the lighter body, the autofocus and IBS makes much higher rate to get sharpness img even with old lens, and faster shuttle speed. But I always bring my 5D iii as a back up camera when ever I need it.
What a fantastic video. Thank you Hunter and Sarah. The camera that meant the most to me was a Ricoh GR film camera that I used for a number of years 20+ years ago. It had a 28mm lens and just made the most amazing colours when paired with Fuji Velvia. I once took a lovely shot of lightening in the alps with it. The photo is still on my wall and makes me smile every time that I look at it. All the very best and regards from the UK. Simon
just traded all my sony a6300 stuff for a 5D mark III and a 25-105 L lens! all of my favorite youtube videos from the 5D mark III's era from devinsupertramp and other creators during that time, it truly is a legendary camera and hope i enjoy the camera. Great video Hunter!
I got the canon 80d and 5d mark III. Today my photos come out better than all those new cameras. It's a skill a thrill and a fill. Creating art 5d mark 3 is a beast
What's so special about this cameras, is that it is an amazing video cameras as well. With the installation of magic lantern you can record Full Frame 14-bit RAW Internally! And the file sizes are very small compared to most of the 4k and 6k raw cameras
Good point, I actually did this with this camera back in the day but didn’t really use it to its full potential so I stopped using it. Definitely a good video camera if you know how to use it properly
I have two 5D Markiii's. The first one I bought bout 12 years ago factory fresh and the second one about 7 years ago, also factory fresh as I was afraid that the first one would fail while far away from home during expeditions. But both camera's work very well till now. Using them much outside in heavy circomstances (rain, cold, humid warmth, dust, you name it). I use them exclusive with the weather-sealed L-lenses (70-300, 100-400 mkII and 24-70 2.8). They have never ever failed on me. They are like rigid tanks. The robust body protects the electronics inside. Also the battery-life is very good (important in my kind of photography). Thank you for this video, it will prevent me from buying other gear for a long time to go. When one of the rigs brakes I wil buy a "new second hand" one ;-)
Thanks for your description of the 5D Mk lll and its capabilities. I own one and happy for all its qualities and capabilities. It is truly a keeper of a camera.
Great video! I usually shoot with my R6ii more often now because I also do video but I love to take out my 5diii that i've had for ages. I also have my Sigma 35 1.4 lens on it the whole time. After using the R6ii for almost 2 years now I would say I love the images I get on my 5diii more. That still holds the title to my favorite camera. edit: forgot to mention, Amazing photos!
I am blown away by your images! Timeless and classic. Great work. Oh and by the way the 5d series is my all time favourite of all the cameras I’ve used.
I bought a 5D MKIII last year with 12,000 shutter clicks, and it's my main camera. I routinely shoot 2,000 photographs in a weekend, and it is an amazing workhorse! It recently got completely drenched from a spending an hour in the rain while on a shoot, and I mean totally soaked! The camera stopped working, so I put it in my car for the day to dry out, and by the evening, it started working again. It had the 24-105 lens on it when it got wet, so I just mounted that lens on another camera and it worked great for the rest of the day. Canon makes some great stuff! Thanks for posting!
Great job! This camera is the bomb. It’s takes you back to the roots of photography. Also my first favorite camera! They can take a beating. Solid video man. Nice shots!
So first of all, the portrait of the man at 3:45 min, his jacket matching the colors of the house in the back, the brightness of the image, the slightly out of focus background, man that is Steve McCurry material, really incredible photo. As well as the rest of your photos hands down amazing. Maybe you could do a video where you tell us the story of the man, how you took the image as well as the editing process. That would make an incredible video I guess. You have a new subscriber, thanks!
Ayyy thanks so much for being the only person who spoke about that images seeing how it was sheer luck that he was marching the building. I was on a medical mission trip in Honduras at a camp where we were facilitating all of the medical supplies for a small poverty stricken village with no healthcare system. It was the right time of day and just a perfect moment in time to be honest with you. I really appreciate your sub and I’ll try to work on more story content like you suggest, thanks again!
I'm really happy to see your video, today I just bought a used 5D mark III camera, the item I got can still be said to be very good because the Shutter Count is still at 10 thousand. I hope that by increasing my gear I will also increase my fortune. Greetings Photographer
Hot take: The Canon 5D mkIII produces better images than the R5. I owned 2 5D3s and I sold them to buy 2 R5s. I have since sold one of the R5s and bought back a 5D3. It's slower, it has worse ISO performance, worse dynamic range, produces smaller images, bigger, heavier, worse focusing system… but it produces nicer looking images. And image quality is more important than all those other things put together. Hell, I was even shooting professional jobs with a 12MP 5D classic until a few years ago. That produces even nicer images with its CCD sensor (in good light. ISO 1600 is the max and it's grainy as hell).
I started with a Sears camera. Snap shooting. Worked up to a Canon A1 film camera. Sold some pictures. But I not used to the digital cameras yet. I have to get back into it though. I loved doing landscape photography. The one mistake I would say I did was doing a wedding. I was asked by the bride's Mother to do it. Some pictures were great. One which I used the Mother's old Volkswagen Beetles door to frame the bride was fantastic. Made the bride's Mother cry.
hie l want to askabout 7dmkii why isit more photographers use it only sport and wildlife no weddings or events coz i wanted 7dmkii shooting portraits and wedding photoshoot is it good camera for events witch one is good 5dmkiii and 7dmkii
@@Miltonmusiwa the 7D has a cropped sensor in it so it adds extra reach to your zoom lens and it’s also cheaper because of that exact reason. The 5D has a full frame which gives you the correct field of view for the lenses you purchase, it lets in more light so it works better in low light + blurrier background and better dynamic range.
@user-uw8qh9gw6t They are both amazing in their own way, however the 7dMkII is a crop sensor camera. It does have exceptionally fast focus and focus tracking which is why I had it, for sports and animals. However now that I've had time to play with my 5DmkIII, it is hands down better at portraiture. Of course it's not the camera that makes the photographer, but if you are choosing between these two and portraiture is what you want to do, go with the full frame.
Started on a 5d mk1, went up to Sony a7’s for a while, picked up a gh5 and g85 for a short time and realised I didn’t like the images any where nearly as before, nothing went up on my wall anymore. Now iv got a 5d mk1, mk2 and mk3 🤷♂️ they’re old but take such nice images, I can’t explain why they’re nicer but hey 🤷♂️.
I bought a used 5D3 a few years ago because it was the highest-recommended camera for stop motion by Dragon Frame. The colour technology was praised, and they also recommended pairing it with Nikon glass for the best images. I've under utilised it since then, but when I do use it I love it. I'm working on getting Magic Lantern for it to use as a B camera for filming RAW footage. My GAS intention is to buy a used c500 Mk1 for 4K RAW capture and for higher (stable) framerates.
Ahhh nice, I actually had Magic Lantern installed on this camera for a while but I didn’t use it very often so ended up resetting it to manufacture settings. I know that it opens up a new world of possibilities that I just wasn’t creative enough to use! Thanks for watching and taking the time to tell us about your experience 🤙🏼
I have combined the 5DIII with Carl Zeiss Classic (25/2.8, 35/2, 50/1.4, 85/1.4) ZF.2 Industrial Edition, to make Stop Motion. These optics allow the diaphragm and focus to be fixed with screws.
i still use one with l glass works flawless, yes mirrorless makes things easier but sometimes easier it not fun and enjoyment... i still want to go mirrorless but I will never get rid of optical viewfinders
I have debated updating my camera body as I’ve shot with a mark iii since 2018. As much as I want to go mirror less, I haven’t been convinced as I will either have to break the bank to get the R5 or buy something that either has the same or less megapixels than my mark iii. Thank you for sharing this. It validates my hesitance to purchase a new body and I’ll continue to invest in my glass. The glass is really where it’s at, IMO. 📷
I think the R5 and R6 are incredible cameras if you haven’t used either one you should definitely rent one or the other. For me, the 5D taught me how to photograph in a way that carried over into mirrorless cameras so I don’t really use a lot of the technology advancements in the mirrorless cameras tbh. It’s not about the camera anyway, it’s about what ya do with it. Keep on keepin on 🤙🏼 thanks for watching
@@hunterhart1 thank you for the insight! I haven’t used them. I’ve admired the photos my friends produce. I will look into renting one. Appreciate the advice! And agreed, it’s about what you do with it! ✨
I came here to find out if the 5D III was technically proficient enough to shoot today, instead I saw a great exposé of a fine creative and beautiful portfolio. These are amazing compositions - you should repost and reword to bring in even more wedding biz. Very fine indeed! It's definitely the art side and not gear side that makes a photo.
@@hunterhart1I really must say some Of the Photos we're the Most creative well composed and colorful Art pieces I have ever Seen online. I would Love to learn your style
Thank you for sharing this great video, in the sea of reviews and styles of videos this felt like I was sitting down hanging out with you chilling in a coffee shop talking gear. I have been wanting to get into portrait western / equestrian photography down in San Diego all of my friends are on the Sony A7 game however those are just so expensive, starting around $1298.00 for just the body. This could be a great option for me to start my photography side hustle career. Thank you.
@@JD-ez9mz thanks so much for your comment. I love this camera so much, I have 3 A7+ cameras and the images I get from this are still more pleasing in my opinion. But…. For the work I do, it is nice to have Sony’s tech. Can’t knock on any of the new cameras but this one still stands strong
@@hunterhart1 You're very welcome. It would be a wonderful starting point for me. Very comforting to know it's, more than capable. Then I can move up to Sony's eventually.
I got one Mark III a few weeks ago. Looks like new. Works well. The owner told me it has 13000 actuation in it. I try to check it but none of the shutter count works.
I have Camera Rental House and people still calling for 5DMIII..i also offer it to customers with low budget and they are always happy with the results
The older Canon 5D’s and 6D mark 1 are definitely great cameras. I have both the 5D Classic and Canon 6D Mark 1 and think the colours and rendering from these cameras is awesome. Coming from Fuji APSC, which I like too for colours and image quality, there is something special about Canon FF that’s for sure.
thanks for this video. It was very inspirational to me. Especially when you talk about the fact that current cameras make you lose sight of creativity. You're always looking at what the OVF marks for you in there. What lenses did you use besides the Sigma 35mm f1.4? Thank you !!!
Hey! Thanks for watching. All photos in this video were taken with the 35mm sigma. I owned the 50mm sigma and the 85mm 1.2 canon but I just wanted to showcase how one lens and one body can do just as good if you know how to use it.
i like maybe 50% of all photos you showed, but i totally love the way you tell this video, very good. the reason why am here is because i want to choose my first camera)
Sorry, I don’t understand the question. It’s an optical viewfinder so all you see is what the lens sees in real time rather than an EVF. Could you expand on the question?
I have more or less the same experience but with 6D and eos R. Although the R is a very efficient camera I prefer the images of the 6D. Also tried an R6, but that is even flatter. The original R leans more towards the older canons in terms of image style.
Your experience and creativity is amazing! Kudos to you. Your shots are so good, the angles. Lovely work. I am a sony A7 shooter. It just goes to show that composition beats any equipment. Nice work.
I use sony as well, they produce great images but in my opinion there is something a lot more special about DSLRs. Anyway, thank you so much for watching and thanks for your compliment.
Awesome video and really nice pictures! I’m looking for my first full frame but don’t know what to pick. I want one of the older ones. Would you say that the 5d3 is a better pick than the 5d2 or 6d or may the newer 6d2?
@@hunterhart1 I like watching Martin Castein, a wedding photographer and his view on photography. He’s a “back to basics” guy and he loves those old 5d and 6d because of the color palette you can’t find in the modern cameras. His favorite camera is the 5d mark 1 with its creamy colors and his 2nd most favorite is the 5d mark 2 or the 6d mark 1 because of their color palette or scheme. The 5d mark 2 has a earthy tone and the 6d very similar to the 5d classic. I’m a beginner so I really appreciate your opinion! Thanks for responding and have a nice weekend!
@@brunodrakenas9575 I think it’s more so better low light performance, faster af and reliability. The colors from the canon 5Diii are my favorites but it’s all subjective. You’ll be happy with any of them
Great video and stunning images I've realised how much spraying and praying i do and think mirrorless cameras are part of that. I'm gonna test out a canon 6d after hearing how good the colours are!
Great video and excellent photos, Hunter. Your customers are lucky! I do photo tours in Vietnam with my trusty 5D3, but it's starting to take a bit of a beating recently. And I struggle a bit to handle very high contrasts compared with more recent cameras. I'm considering buying a 5D4 with two more stops, and I'm curious whether the colours in the RAW files are as good or flat. Have you tested the difference between these cameras (D53 vs 5D4)?
I understand your frustration with the contrast detection system. In my opinion it’s hard to tell the difference from the images it produces compared with the 5DMarkiii. I think you’d find the new AF system to suit you well.
great video! you can feel the passion in your words. very inspiring! I would like to get back into photography and today I ordered a used 5d m3. plus the 18-35 2.8 II. your video helped me with my decision. Many thanks and greetings from Germany.
Some great shots there - like your style ... I still shoot with a 5d3 and use a fuji system (xt2) for lightweight carry round .. Just curious what lens you were using .. Regards from UK
Help!! Canon 24-70mm or sigma? I'm getting my 5D Mark iii soon and I'm between lenses? I'm stumped because the Canon 24-70 f2.8 doesn't have image stabilization. Sigma does. But from comparison vids I've watched sigma clarity doesn't match Canon until the higher stops. But that Canon price tag for something nearly indistinguishable? Is it worth it? I'm planning to embark primarilyon street photography and also portrait sessions.
@@Clorayne I’m not a huge 24-70 guy. With my canon I always use primes. So I can’t say yes or no to either but in my experience between the two brands, I’ve never noticed a lack of performance. It would probably be negligible either way unless your pixel peeping which let’s be honest, the only person that would notice a difference is someone that wants to. Make sure you buy Sigma Art whenever purchasing a sigma. Sorry I was not help at all.
I bought a 5D3 about 6weeks ago & I love it ❤️. They were always too expensive, but just lately used 5D3 prices have dropped a lot here in the U.K. Great portrait camera for a real bargain price.
The 5DIII is the closest look to digital film for a pure photographer with get out of gail video 1080p. Used it globally with L 24-70MM f2.8 and L 70-200MM F2.8, no director or image desk has ever asked me to shoot prime. The menu's are so simple and the RAW files I have enlarged to 14ft x 30ft on wallpaper for Marriott and many other blue chip companies. The 5DIV felt more of a 4K limited video body that also did stills. I had one for 12 months then went back to 5Ds and 5DsR for magazine and studio shoots. The EOS R is my walkabout and gimble body usually with RF 35mm and the R5 is the beast unleashed from Canon, does what I need so well in stills and video for magazine and compliments the C300MII for TV although my wish list is R5 C and C300 MK III. On video for commercial or TV i always output EOS R, R5, C300 MKII to ATOMOS ProRes recorders and set the white balance to K 3600 OR K 5600. Brings the Canon sensors closer in post using the ProRes HQ. Nice video and I always have time for the Canon 5D III as it made me feel complete as a photographer, ready to shoot anything.
Thanks for your story, the R5 is honestly so good (I wish they allowed sigma glass for RF) something about the feeling of the 5D body just feels so indestructible and I love that. The R5 feels sturdy for a mirrorless but nothing will ever beat the 5D series or the 1DX as far as a tank feel. I made a video about the X100VI and why you don’t need it because of the megapixel bump. People get off to megapixels when in reality, billboards have been printed with just a few megapixels far before sensors crammed so much in. Bottom line is that if the camera feels good, works well and inspires you then it’s doing a good job.
@@MinaAlex2407 I do know one photographer that swears by it, along with his Nikon but I think there are some shared features across the two. I did try Nikin D3 but I stayed with Canon.
I just ordered one, it has 160,000 on the shutter but I noticed some had over 600,000 on the count. The 5D Mark iii is an upgrade to my T7 body, I spent all my money on the 150-600mm Sigma C lens so my leftover budget was $400 MAX on a better body. 📸 🐿️
Sold my 5D mark iii for a cinema camera (BMCC6K). I regret selling it. I don’t regret the purchase. I’ve tested the Sony a7iii the canon eos 6D. Nothing has felt the same since I sold it. I’m gonna buy a used one on eBay
I sold my Fujifilm X-H2 and I'm now looking at a 5d Mark iii, going from professional to hobby, I felt the Fuji did too much of the work for me and I sort of fell out of love with photography because it wasn't challenging and I wasn't feeling creative, can't decide between the 50 1.8 and 85 1.8 at the moment to pair with it though, limited budget since its just for occasional use for myself.
The Canon 5D Mark iii changed my life. Is there a camera that has changed yours?
The 5D Mark II was my main jam - totally nuts what the jump was from the 5D to the Mark II was!
Still have my Mark III. Have the GFX 50S II now but for some reason haven't been able to let go of the 5D. Ergonomics are just perfect to me. The thing feels unbreakable.
@@glenis83 it can definitely be used as a first line of defense
Also the 5D Mark III, my first and current full frame camera and I'm using it for all my work! I mostly use it with the Sigma 35mm f/1.4, legendary combo!
@@glenis83It indeed is a tank, mine's running on it's original shutter with more than 500k actuations.
The classic is awesome!
I miss mine
A digital camera with the soul of film.
Only downfall … LIGHT. HOG.
Ive been a professional portrait photographer for 10 years this year. I got my first 5d3 in February of 2014, has 400k+ on it now, for $3000. I just picked up another one with 69k on it for $350! I also got a 1dm2 for $185 as well. I love them so much!
Great! Which lens its your faver?
Never been a professional but I do make money as a side gig since 4-5 years and I still use two 5d3s , they are as good now as when they camd out . Sigma 60 art and the 70-200 2.8 is ii are on my cameras 90 procent of the time
That combo wombo of the 35 sigma and the 5d mark iii will go down in history as one of the best of all time
100% agree with that, right next to the OG Leica Q.
Sooo interested in lens choice- you like Sigma’s 35 better than canon? Gotta look into that!
You said it well, people do forget they were flagship cameras. We get bombarded so often by megapixels and fps, we try “keeping up”with everyone
@@hunterhart1i am buying 5d Mark 4
Ya know, this all makes too much sense to me. I think that I learned so much using that camera and new cameras are just kind of all the same, no soul.
Deployed to Iraq with the 5DmkII
Made history with that camera!
You have a dope eye!
how is the OG 5d better than 5d3? better color? better autofocus?
@@malayneum
Well,
if you’re familiar with film, the grain it produces is similar. I’d like to think it’s due to the ISO and sensor.
The color renditions are beautifully unique to the 5D series.
And, personally for me, it produces a certain level of limitations that exercise my creativity.
Lastly,
On the 5D mkIII, while I like it’s capabilities, it’s sterile and produces clean imagery.
But too clean for certain scenarios.
One of my first cameras was a Mamiya ZE & Nikon D300s. I’ve always shot digital and film/film-esque cameras simultaneously.
Here’s a simpler parallel;
Grain for film cameras is like THD (Total Harmonic Distortion) for analog gear in music production.
Wow what a great deal! They really cannot be beat! Great job, wouldn’t call it a downgrade: thanks for sharing!
👏🏼👏🏼 very nice, thanks for watching
Thats my next purchase a 1dx but im never letting go of my 5d ii an 5d iii lol those are here to stay forever
Stunning shots! You are a gifted photographer.
Thank you so much!
Let me know how it goes! It’s always nice to get back into the flow and feel creative again.
SO EXCITED
Congrats! I’m super excited for you and glad the video could help inspire just a bit. Thanks for watching 🙏🏼
Okay, well.
5D2, 5D4, and now 5DsR
I still to this day love the files from the 5D2 specially in natural light.
This is awesome! Thanks for sharing your experience!
Thanks for telling your 5D story and thanks for watching 🙏🏼

Thanks
Thank you SOOOOO MUCH!!!
Thanks for sharing. Your style and creativity made me say wow, something I rarely say.
Thank you so much, I am so glad you stumbled onto my channel!
I just got a 5d mk iii last week! Excited to start using it. Just gotta save up for a better lens for it. Great video!
Hope you’re enjoying it! Thanks for watching
Amen! Hope you enjoy the 5D, I’d say it’s a nice upgrade from the 7D

This is so good. I love your technique

I'm really happy to see your video, today I just bought a used 5D mark III camera, the item I got can still be said to be very good because the Shutter Count is still at 10 thousand. I hope that by increasing my gear I will also increase my fortune. Greetings Photographer
My husband and I use the 5D mark III till this day! I love it ❤
Timeless camera
Brilliant advice and a great photoshoot!
Thank you 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Hot take: The Canon 5D mkIII produces better images than the R5.
Dude, tbh I didn’t want to say that but I feel the same way about the image quality I swear!
Getting my 5DmkIII this week. I love my 7DmkII but ive wanted the 5DmkIII to be my starter FF ❤
You’re going to love it, I promise!
hie l want to askabout 7dmkii why isit more photographers use it only sport and wildlife no weddings or events coz i wanted 7dmkii shooting portraits and wedding photoshoot is it good camera for events witch one is good 5dmkiii and 7dmkii
That was such a inspirational video. Looking forward to seeing more.
Thank you so much
Super picks.Really fabulous
Started on a 5d mk1, went up to Sony a7’s for a while, picked up a gh5 and g85 for a short time and realised I didn’t like the images any where nearly as before, nothing went up on my wall anymore. Now iv got a 5d mk1, mk2 and mk3 🤷♂️ they’re old but take such nice images, I can’t explain why they’re nicer but hey 🤷♂️.
Totally relate and completely agree 📸
Excellent video Hunter! If it weren’t for video, I’d pick this up for sure. Amazing work!
Thanks man!
@@hunterhart1 No problem! Thank you for the video 😁👍
You should definitely consider going mirrorless, I still keep my canon but shoot mirrorless as well. Nothing will ever beat the canon though
Those are some really great photos you showed. Great job!
Hey man, thanks so much for that. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment on the video.
@@Larnuse thank you so much 🙏🏼 this is the best compliment I could get on a video! Should I repost it or just change the thumbnail and title?

It could be 1million and still work just fine, they’re meant to outlast the world if you don’t toss it off of too many cliffs
I am only 3 minutes in the Video and i'm blown away by the images that you created ! Just WOW...
Thank you so much, hope ya got through the whole thing
Canon T2i started it all for me...just using a DSLR for video was amazing on it's own
I have Camera Rental House and people still calling for 5DMIII..i also offer it to customers with low budget and they are always happy with the results
Great Camera I love it
Great video! Sorry which lens were you using? Thanks!
@@Georgie_B_ the sigma 35 mm thanks!
@@hunterhart1 ty !!!
Did you use the sigma 35 for all these shots? They are fantastic!
Yes I did! Thanks so much 🙏🏼
i like maybe 50% of all photos you showed, but i totally love the way you tell this video, very good. the reason why am here is because i want to choose my first camera)
50% is pretty good I’d say, I like about 6% of them! Thanks for watching!
Your pics shown in the video speaks highly of your skills and your creative angle. I hope I could be this good, one day.
Thanks so much!! Follow me over on Instagram!
Great video, would you happen to know if there is a way to set up the viewfinder that there is >>ONLY BLACK
Nice shots!😍
Thanks so much
Awesome video and really nice pictures!
I’m looking for my first full frame but don’t know what to pick. I want one of the older ones. Would you say that the 5d3 is a better pick than the 5d2 or 6d or may the newer 6d2?
I’d say the 5Diii is the winner in all of them. I think anyone who has used all of them would attest to that as well.
You’ll be happy with any of them
Great video and stunning images
I've realised how much spraying and praying i do and think mirrorless cameras are part of that. I'm gonna test out a canon 6d after hearing how good the colours are!
Let me know how it goes, optical viewfinders are nice too.
These edits are fire 🔥

Thanks so much for watching, glad I could be inspiring! Can’t wait to hear how the camera works out for ya.
@@hunterhart1 many thanks for your effort!
I will definitely report 👍🏻
Some great shots there - like your style ... I still shoot with a 5d3 and use a fuji system (xt2) for lightweight carry round .. Just curious what lens you were using .. Regards from UK
Thanks so much. 35mm sigma
Really great vid! ❤

I bought a 5D3 about 6weeks ago & I love it ❤️. They were always too expensive, but just lately used 5D3 prices have dropped a lot here in the U.K. Great portrait camera for a real bargain price.
Agreed! Glad to hear it
Yessssss.
I'd have to say the closest thing to digital film by far are fujifilm mirrorless cameras
@@MinaAlex2407 I’d say the xpro series using the optical viewfinder, yea because of the button layout

@@northernrider780 that’s a tough decision, I’d probably go with the 50 just for versatility though.
