    Very helpful video! I don't play spy very often, but it's very good to understand the enemies methods so that I can avoid falling for simple manipulation. Basically what I've learned is... DON'T try and melee a Spy! Use your gun or simply stay out of melee range until you can get assistance. A good Spy can easily land a backstab on you when you're chasing them.

      It's good to know that the bigger TF2 UA-camrs watch each other. It gives you a sense of the community that the game has developed as well as the knowledge that even the good players desire to understand more about the game.

    What separates slurgi from most other spies is analyzing other players, thinking consciously about trickstabs, and not just sticking to the matter of "press a press d get kills". You even did some circlestrafes there. His movement and thought process is also phenomenal.

      +TheUKNutter spy isn't about 1v1. Also he would just blast your head off. Mr. Paladin is a pretty crappy spy. Slurgi definitely knows his stuff and then stabby is a great competitive spy, less so of a pub spy.

    It took me about 2 weeks after finding this channel, but I can somewhat get stabs like slurgi now. I have 230 hours in spy and spent hours 100-200 only working on amby aim. Which isn't a bad thing to do. The first 100 were just basic spying around stuffs. Anyways, after about 2 weeks of trying to learn how to move like slurgi, I can now walk into a crowd of 4-5 people and trickstab as many as i can, then if i get at low health, i can keep a distance and headshot them. It is so rewarding. I feel like these tutorials are going to be what let me become a jack of all trades.

    I wish trickstabs didn't look as weird as they do from the perspective of the one getting stabbed, because a lot of the times it just looks like he's not even on the edge of being able to backstab you.

    I'm so bummed that i didn't bump into these spy channels like Stabby and Slurgi sooner. I've plaid 700+ hours of spy so far and it's always just been about stab everything that turns it's back to you. shoot every head which isn't moving too erratically. I've never put so much tough into what I'm doing in game until now. I've seen a dramatic increase in my success at stuff like trick stabs and Juking players in melee range and with the IW. I really appreciate these videos Slurgi thanks and keep up the good work!

    Slurgi, you know, you are my ideal when playing spy. But you see not everyone can do like this. The reason is PING. Like I have never played lower than 190 ping. And when it comes to trick stabs, the only stabs we can do is stair, side and matador stabs and, to some extent corner stab if the enemy has little or no reflexes. The lag compensation sometimes makes things harder by rewinding the game and blah blah. We know already.
    But really, whenever I see your videos, it makes me play more of this game and discover the different techniques and play styles of spy! Thank you so much slugi, you made me understand all the stair stabs and other ones!!
    Thanks once again

    I think that you can practice as much you want, but if you dont have a good ping (40-30) it's A LOT harder to do those crazy range matadors or trickstabs in general.
    That's what i thought in 2000 hours

    • @zedacht8389
      @zedacht8389 9 років тому

      totally agree with you i played spy for 300 h when i play with the invis watch i can juke people like slurgi said in the video but when it comes to crazy matadors its way harder when you have a shitty ping 80 90 sometimes when my internet is good i can get a ping of 60 70 and with this lowerping i get way more trickstabs
      mouvement is really important even with a high ping you can still juke poeple to escape when it comes to trickstabs its way harder

    So I have 400+ hrs as Spy, mostly because I just enjoy playing Spy, and I had never tried any of this before. I watched this vid and practiced a ton on degroot and IT ACTUALLY WORKS. You need to assess the average player skill level on a server as soon as you hop on, and then you can trick away with movement so convincingly. Really good players expect you to juke and dodge in certain ways, so you need to outwit them. Noob players don't even expect you to do that, so if you juke and dodge against them, you're actually setting yourself up for failure because they won't do what you expect them to do.
    It's like a never-ending mindgame. Makes Spy so much more fun. You know it's working when you force half the enemy team to go Pyro and flame away like there's no tomorrow.

  • @robaba89
    @robaba89 9 років тому

    The key to avoiding being hit with trickstabs is the same as trying to execute one. Use your movement. Trick the enemy(spy) into acting first.
    Make him think he can stairstab you but stay just out of range so he jumps down in front of you as an easy target. Follow to a corner but stop early/take it wide so they can't cornerstab you and it fucks with their prediction, etc.
    Don't chase a spy with melee. You have a gun. Unfortunatly, so does he- but most forget they own one.. especially when trick stabbing for fun haha.
    Play like a spy to kill a good spy.
    Make them think you are a sheep, but be a wolf.
    The biggest problem for most people, IMO, is that they just don't know how well a spy can take advantage of the natural lag between players. What you see on your screen isn't perfectly matched with your enemies screen. A lot of trick stabs work because you are actually ahead of where the enemy sees your character model by ~100ms. Tracking be damned if your target isn't where it is shown to be. Sure his hitbox might be there but his knife is already in your back lol.
    But yeah, good video.
    Like slurgi said, tell people where to look/aim and then do the opposite.
    Predict their prediction by feeding them movement information. It's a language most people don't even know they are reading... so you can lie very easily ;)
    That's what lets you slip behind someone while they are looking right at you haha.

    So trickstabs are basically like lies. You lie to them about your future position.

    I started playing TF2 just to play Spy. I don't really like FPS games, tbh, but... I love playing Spy for same reason I love magic tricks. Deception and manipulation are able to do amazing things... Or in TF2, make someone ragequit.
    I think I like the idea of that not just for my power lust, but also for fact that it's not easy to do, but it's hella fun, and it can be rewarding.
    Thanks for an amazing video, I hope it'll help me.

      +KidneyStonez bad people? Bro I know he doesn't. He plays against steel players at best. Wins against them too.

      TheUKNutter ok your right i used the wrong word my fault. In some not all but some on his videos he plays against people that nust instaleld the game. Also he gets away with stuff he should not be able to get away with (in his earlier videos) hes a good spy but he gets really lucky

      KidneyStonez You've gotta be in his videos! All of his videos are with his subscribers, and many people try and kill him and/or pocket him. Well that's what has been happening this year. I always get put against really good players when I go on valve payload servers for some reason. I find it hard to keep up to be the MVP.

    I've done this once, but don't know if people will fall for it.
    Step 1: Pretend to be AFK and DON'T disguise
    Step 2: Wait for enemy to start taunt kill
    Step 3: Get your easy stab

    I remember this one thing you did. I was a spy after u. I noticed you were about to corner stab me, so I back away and then you strafe to do the attempt but continued to a full 270 and got me, I didn't even dare to turn towards the door to u. How ;;

    • @MysteriousAznDuDe
      @MysteriousAznDuDe 9 років тому

      Because the moment u backed away, u receive 10% speed reduction. Since slurgi kept moving forward, he caught up and backstabbed you. That's why it's important to strafe away to avoid that 10% speed reduction when backing up.

    Backstab someone in the spine. Get slash damage. They turn around and backstab you from the belly bump. 100+ ping in a nutshell.

    • @illican

      But the airaccelerate is so much higher on surf servers so you can get used to being able to do a quick 180 at 2500 units per second and then stopping instantly by tapping S.
