Scar it up with wifey's pickups and do it before-&-after for the next video... plywood need love too! As for those pickups, just rotate the P90 magnets and it'll be magnetically IN-phase with the humbucker; that alone would be a nice short video right there.
Regarding that headstock shape, there was already a thing called "teledildonics" (what a terrible day to know things)... but I think this just made Tele-Dildonics a thing, too.
Nothing wrong with a plywood top on an electric guitar, I would paint round it to cover it up, but for the price, it's a good guitar that needs a little work, I've bought guitars 5 times that price that have had to have work on them, I spent about a month getting my jaguar set up right, as long as the parts ain't totally broken or drilled in the wrong place, any guitar can be sorted out into a playable instrument
I received mine today (old man sunburst). 😅 I have to say that the pickups really suck, but everything else, and I mean everything else is as near perfect as it can get..!! Out of the box, the action @ the 12th is 1mm for both 1st and 6th strings with no buzzing at all. Neck is perfectly flat, and frets are level. It weighs a stealth 8lb 7oz. The finish is flawless and the veneer on mine is beyond beautiful. The woodgrain looks like waves, or rippling water with foamy waves as they crash on the beach. Yes Sir, I'm upgrading all the electronics; take some nail polish to the f-hole, and will love on this a long time! Plays Sweet is all I can say. Again, the pickups are not good at all. The P90 is tolerable, but the humbucker in this one is the worst that I've ever experienced. 🤢 Oh; all for $81 and change. 🎉👍
The only reason I could think of for a bow like that is to ensure the 2 way truss rod is working & that the neck moves freely to react ? But put it back to where it should be ? With some new guitars, the neck is more or less difficult to react to the truss rod adjustment for movement. That is the neck might be stiffer for whatever reason. Maybe even glued somehow when it was built ? I have a Jackson bass guitar (short scale) that was stuck at the 1st fret when I bought it preowned for back bow. Some bass guitars have the carbon fiber support glued into them because of the heavier gauge string sets for higher tension, even though the tuning is lower for standard E on a bass guitar.
I have the same guitar and had to do a neck level and truss rod adjust before playing it. I played the heck out of it the night before a gig and it worked fine. I tested it the next night at a gig and first song, the saddle adjusting screw for G stripped and dropped the string on the frets - no mo showing off with this one tonight. It looked really nice on the stand all night. I replaced the bridge and will put string thru on it. I like this guitar and it didn't cost me much. Nice color and I have been looking at the strat model and assume it will also need work. Never buy anything just because you like the color, unless you don't have any adult supervision.
Changed the saddles of the bridge for a solid ones and the tunning machines for a blocking ones on my Gear it (exactly like yours). Really likes me how the guitar sounds now.
I’m with Cathy. I’d go with that seafoam too! You know, I wish they’d offer two options. A beginner model with the crap baggie of “extras,” and a “pro” model without the crap baggie that has some hardware or other upgrades. Maybe better fit and finish. I can see where a first time kid would love the goody bag, but most adults (especially those with some playing experience) would want a better guitar. Great vid!
Wow it's going down fast , it was at $99 last week and when my wife got it for me at Christmas it was almost $150🤔 their must be something wrong with a batch or something for the price to keep dropping. Hopefully yours won't be bad , mine was in perfect condition. I did have some ringing in the saddles on 2 strings so I changed all of them and installed locking tuners. But that's it , everything else is fine. Good luck 👍
Received it today. Like Sean said the only thing bad about it is the tuners. Intonation was close on. The pups needed adjustment. Other than those minor issues it's a very good guitar. Mine is the sunburst color. $71.25 I say it's a steal.
@@spookshilljoe7376 You might notice ringing in the saddles on a couple strings , I had to change mine but it was no big deal. I changed those along with the tuners to locking one's I had lying around. I have the black one and it really is a nice guitar for the price...
I'm doing a setup on it today. I think I might be able to stop the ringing saddles. I've don't with one other guitar I have so hopefully it works in this one.

These GearIts do need some basic setup out of the box, but I have two LPs and they are quality guitars. The tuners improve dramatically with a drop of oil in that little hole. I did swap the pickups out for $30/pair P90s, and they were vastly improved.
Actually Sean, I think Cathy made the right choice with the Seafoam Green. It's a unique look for a thin line, like what everyone had when we were kids. That P90 sounded great too.
The nut on mine needed some filing to fix some buzzing and dead strings when strummed open. But after that and adjusting the truss rod it was fine. I just need to swap the pickups cuz they are bad. But I love how it looks on my wall so it's a decoration right now
Well, you asked... The humbucker sounds a tad muddy to me, and with the coil split it sounds a little bland. That's a weird EQ scoop in the middle position, with coil split or without, but it wasn't really bad. Just different. I loved that neck P-90 though. Big, fat tone. And it is very easy on the eyes in that seafoam green. I'd say that if the neck feels good and it stays in tune, then for $130, she's a total keeper. I have the Firefly Thinline, modded with Duncan Quarter-Pound Tele pickups (singles). This video is making me pull it out of storage.
Gotta say I have this guitar in black , it's flawless. I did change the saddles and the tuners but that's it , I got it as a gift and maybe I lucked out but I have no complaints....
@@joemanuel5053 Good luck , hopefully it will be. It's hit or miss with these newer companies , it usually takes a few years for them to be consistent 👍✌️
The only sound I liked on this one was the P-90 by itself. I agree that they shouldn't have left the edges of the F hole bare. I don't care that it exposes the plywood but it should have been painted or maybe even put binding on it.
Hey 👋 Sean, enjoyed yet another video. It’s been quite an education! And… darn sure entertaining. Nice to know there are guys out there doing upfront and honest reviews.
It doesn’t have a P-90 punch, maybe it’s set too low. My granddaughters Epiphone LesPaul Special 2 I gave her is sharp enough P-90s to put an eyeball out. It punches good but it is too small for me. I am going to try the Silvertone with at least one Cathybucker at the bridge like my old 80s HM Fender Strat. You could tune it down to Eflat or D and it bit hard.
Thanks for the setup. I bought this same guitar and forgot to check the neck but made other adjustments. I'll get to that neck. I bought this guitar to do all the things you suggested. Thanks again!
A coil split turns off one coil of a double coil pickup. A coil tap switches off some of the windings. A coil split is a coil tap, but a coil tap is not necessary a coil split. You could tap a single coil.
@@davidstokes4630 That’s how I understand it but that’s how almost all of them are anyway so it’s not a worry. People use the term interchangeably. You would be hard pressed to find an actual coil tap.
From Leo: I got an Epiphone Pro that had the strings laying on the fret board like that. I fixed it, but it should not have been shipped like that. I think I would take a Q tip dipped in white paint around that f hole. The piece of wood they made the neck from would not be my first pick, It looks like one that will move around. The auto split on the middle position is a really good design, especially if they have the polarity to cancel hum,
Davidhans, for what it's worth, my longtime method for setting string height is kind of low-tech, but it has worked really well for me throughout the years. I call it "a Quarter's worth of action." Quite simply, I aim to set the height of the strings so that I can JUST BARELY slide a Quarter under them at the location of the 16th and 17th frets. I rest the Quarter on top of those two frets so that it spans them like a bridge over a river. I work with the 6th and 5th strings (as a pair) initially, then scoot the Quarter underneath the 4th and 3rd strings, and then finally underneath the 2nd and 1st strings. Ideally, I like to get it so that, when plucked gently, each string sits just high enough above the Quarter to be able to ring clearly and without buzzing against the top of the Quarter. This process gives me a nice medium-low action, and gets the strings following the fretboard radius with good accuracy.
I slapped some wilkinsons on mine and it made all the diff....also they had the saddles all jacked but a little time setting up and she plays just fine. Thanks for taking time to show this nice cheap guitar
I got the seafoam green one too. The only problem was the relief and had to adjust the truss rod too . But i put new strings on, adjusted the truss rod, and adjusted the action. The frets were actually really nice. Now it sounds really good. For the price, I’m not complaining
Just got mine in black. Had to relieve the neck a skosh easy work. The frets are level and she tuned up fine. When I'm cork sniffing and trying to get a jazz tone the pickups are a little inarticulate. However when I cranked up with a loud backing track the neck pickup was a snarling dog. The bridge pickup isn't something I use a lot but it was the same comparison.
I’m pretty sure I had to turn the truss rod clockwise to raise the action. I dunno what was going on. It’s like the truss rod was put on the wrong direction. Am I crazy? I turned it counter clockwise and the strings were even more sitting on the frets, turned it all the way clockwise and that gave it more relief

1st, it sounds like you can make most guitars sound good. Sometimes it sounds like you're about to break into Donovan's "Season of the Witch". 2nd, don't forget the info I sent you about D'addario. I use their strings a lot and if I ever get a steel fretted guitar, I'm going to try those half round strings or the all steel strings

the split bridge PU sounded pretty hot, and the split middle was interesting, but the P90 sounded weak. and yes the headstock is very phallic, and Hockey stick-ish
Headstock shape is weird, but not a deal breaker for a return. Sounds decent enough, ply or solid. $ 106, one can always tape that up, paint the f-hole in white or black with a Q-tip for whatever they like, even glue on matching binding around the edge. Perfect for that Mod ? If that's a build technique one wants to learn how to do. Remember that a Danelectro is a ply body for sides & Masonite top & bottom. They seem to get several hundred more for those with the lipstick pickups. Danelectro has the Gumby or even a coke/milk bottle headstock shape. For a split coil bridge at $ 106. One could always go with lipstick pickups & have a great guitar as modded.
A final thought on the plywood top, it's not like it's what you're getting from Home Depot for Pine. It's probably hardwood veneers that are glued as a ply. If the top & bottom is that, then it's a pretty good build for construction. It looked like 3 plies of different harder woods ? Then again at one of the points of the f-hole, it loos like the middle layer may have been stained or burned by the router bit, as one spot is missing the darker brown layer ? I have a project 25.5 scale coke/milk bottle neck from Amazon that was $ 37 delivered, Might just buy one of these for the rest of the body, electronics & just swap necks. Wouldn't be a bad guitar for even $ 145-ish invested to mod & customize. Then again, the neck it comes with is a nicely tinted yellow for an all maple neck & gloss polyurethane sealed.
I got the GearIT LP style for $76 on black Friday before they became extinct. I like it. Dual P 90s. The neck was fairly flat on mine. Tuners are ok. I did put copper shielding tape.
@@johnenglish8261 I like it. I wanted to try P90 pickups. They are different. Not my normal style, but I like them for other things. I was not at all disappointed. I almost missed out. I wanted the white one. Waited too long and they removed the coupon. I went for the black one and that was still discounted. Glad I got one before it was too late. Fit and finish is actually quite good.
I caught the Gear it LP on Black Friday. New tuners, pickups, Tusq nut and pots-it’s decent now. But the amount of work on the upgrades, neck pocket and frets, I wonder what’s a good deal anymore. Might start with a better piece next time.
@@kennethpowers8547 I just got a new Jackson Soloist for almost a grand that needed a whole afternoon worth of work to get it playable, and it could still use a tuner replacement. That stupid Black Friday guitar needed none of that in my case. You just never know.

Have you checked out the IYV guitars or the Eart Tele? Bought an Eart Tele and it is one of the best Tele's I've ever played (after a few teaks and a good setup). It has become one of my " go to" guitars these days. Same thing with the IVY's
I dunno about Sean however, I use them on three different guitars, 18:1 I think. They perform well for a set $35 lockers, and they look great too, especially the gold.
Please please please try a Fender x Loog Stratocaster! It's for kids, but I got one for fun, and it's surprisingly good. Only 3 strings, so i call it my Shamicaster (after the Shamisen). Because of the strings featured, it's clearly for kids who wanna shred.
SUNBURST!!! I didn't watch this video before because I didn't like the color OR the headstock right off... BUT... I just pulled the trigger on the SUNBURST because it's only $75 this morning, with a P90 AND coil splitting! I don't have a P90, so the experience, and a $75 mod platform with ROUNDED FRETS which are usually stainless steel (btw, this guitar was one of the first 3 listed when I searched stainless steel guitars on Amazon, it's how I came across it). My cousin had seen this, so NOW I am. Btw, I posted a review, and plugged you among others in it, of the Fojill LP with stainless steel frets, bone nut, and alnico (doesn't say what kind) pickups. Would love you to check it out, and maybe do your own tear down on that model. You've done other Fojill. Right now, mine is the only one of THAT model. Keep rocking!!!
The reason the necks come that way is the people building them don't either play guitar or know how one is built or both. Not saying they can't manufacture them. They just can't build one . If that makes sense

I’ve been looking at that exact guitar. Thanks for thekiller video.
This speaks to my soul, and I will be happy with the green! I want one and set up, could you do this, and how much?
Sunburst is the best obviously
Awesome video as always.
Of prefer the sea foam green over any of the other colors
Sounds pretty good after you worked on it, but my favorite thing about it is the knot in the fretboard 😜
Another Killer vid! Amazon just had a deal for these so I picked one up, 65$ couldn't pass it up. I got the old man color. LOL
Saw one almost brand new at a second hand shop. Noticed some minor cracks in the body. Maybe that’s why so many returns 🤷🏾♂️
Epoxy over sealer you get a finish like that then color
I got the GearIT LP style for $76 on black Friday before they became extinct.
I like it. Dual P 90s. The neck was fairly flat on mine. Tuners are ok. I did put copper shielding tape.
I wanted one of those. So how did it work out for you in the long run? 🤔👍👍✌️
Sean, that guitar is a strong contender for da money! Thanks, for pointing out the shortcomings! Cheers, to you and Cathy for sharing another budget axe with us!
Amazingly good fretwork right out of the box.
I got the black one from my wife for Christmas and the fret work is perfect , I had a little ringing on a couple saddles so I upgraded those and installed locking tuners. It's perfect now and sounds great...
Have you checked out the IYV guitars or the Eart Tele? Bought an Eart Tele and it is one of the best Tele's I've ever played (after a few teaks and a good setup). It has become one of my " go to" guitars these days. Same thing with the IVY's
Are these guitars only on USA Amazon as there never available on UK sight.
What do you think about guyker locking tuners are them good?
I dunno about Sean however, I use them on three different guitars, 18:1 I think. They perform well for a set $35 lockers, and they look great too, especially the gold.
Hey Sean. Do you guys make any covered pickups?
Great Review Sean, Maybe They think by loosening the Truss Rod They can avoid breakage during shipping ?!
As Always Thank You & Have a Great Night...
Yeah, maybe, but shipping a guitar intended for beginners in a condition *requiring* a truss rod adjustment seems like a bad idea.
I love sunburst ! But I am old also 😅
Please please please try a Fender x Loog Stratocaster!
Sunburst! My favorite! My nickname is Papa Blue! 😅 thanks 🤘
What is the fretboard radius? It looks like 9.5?
Whats the story on the center position? Are they outta phase?
@scarmyguitar did you ever get this phase issue in center position sorted?
The reason the necks come that way is the people building them don't either play guitar or know how one is built or both. Not saying they can't manufacture them. They just can't build one . If that makes sense
Sunburst would have been better, I am an old man, though 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Another great review my friend. Looking forward to your next one
Starting out be great for them
Just ordered one and can take care of any issues it has. The first will be doing cosmetic surgery on the headstock.
