      Absolutely!! When I first subscribed I was worried it was all going to be wood/resin carvings of animals. And don't get me wrong I still watched them all, and.i will continue to, but as an artist myself, I love the use of new mediums in forms they normally don't take. Mainly the tire sculptures! I love multimedium art, and one of my favorite pieces I've done is actually a very large American flag I made from shiny new and old oxidized US pennies. Because how often do you see pennies framed on a wall?

    A couple of things that would help tremendously with the vibration on the lathe: having it on a more substantial base the fact that there's an open space under the table allows the amount of vibration to increase over time. But the main issue is it doesn't have a speed control! That would scare the crap out of me! Reducing or increasing the speed can have a huge effect on the amount of vibration.

    • @BMSculptures
      @BMSculptures  8 місяців тому +16

      Agreed. If I intend to do. more of this I think I will invest in a proper setup and tool.

    • @syninys100
      @syninys100 8 місяців тому +9

      @@BMSculptures That lathe _does_ have some (rudmentary) speed control. @7:35 we can see a stepped pulley set up. If you change the pulley that the belt is on, then it will change the speed that the spindle turns at. That one looks like it has only 4 settings, and such systems are a pain to actually change, but it does have some degree of adjustment. The setting it's on at that timestamp is '3 of 4' - I'm not sure if that's the second fastest or second slowest, but unless you changed that, then there potentially was either one or two steps slower that that lathe could have gone.
      You may well have used that (and it didn't make the edit; which would make sense, it's not a lathe how to after all!), but thought I add that for others that might be in a similar situation.

    I understand your fears when it comes to lath work.
    Back in the 60s a highschool student had glued up some wood to turn into a bowl.
    He too had misgivings and had put on a motorcycle helmet.
    But to no avail, the pieces of wood he'd glued together came apart at one point.
    Part of this came apart and sliced through the helmet and the top of his skull. It was said that the teacher lost it and tried scooping up the boy's brains and tried to put them back in.
    It affected him so bad, he ceased teaching woodshop and as far as I know never went into that area of the school ever again.
    So you're standing back and watching it vibrate is very understandable.

    This one-of-a-kind trophy is something every guy's club needs. My father played pool with his mates every week ("The Boys' Night Out" eh, it stuck). Their trophy was an autographed framed photo of Minnesota Fats, and on the back the victor put their name and the year they won the tournament (in light pencil), and got to hang it up in their 'mancave' so long as they kept winning. The day I played pool well-enough to compete with them, my father got me my own pool cue as a sign of recognition and it's my most prized possession. The photograph was buried with my father as it was his originally.

    I like the result of all wood sculptures better but I think both types are equally fun videos

    I have been watching your videos for a while now and I love your talent. As someone who has run a lathe for several years, I want to offer you and anyone reading this a bit of safety advice. Never sand from the lathe with the tool rest still in place. If something catches, you won't be able to react fast enough to save your digits! Remove the tool rest before sanding, please. Keep up the great work!

      ohhhhhh I didnt even think about it! I can definitely see that being a huge safety issue. Thanks Teddy!

    Answers to your questions from the kids (10 & 6) and I. We all love watching your creations!
    Epoxy & wood vs just wood. We love both! The diversity of your builds is part of what we like about the channel.
    As for the shark the consensus is the log. My son would also love to see you do a green cheek conure (type of parrot)

    i love the variety in your sculptures, both solid wood and epoxy, epoxy looks amazing for some pieces and some pieces look even better with just pure wood

    I genuinely don't mind what you sculpt, or what you sculpt with in truth, I just love seeing you sculpt! Loved the final trophy! Really, really cool! God bless you. Have a great week!

    If the NFL see this
    beautiful sculptured
    artwork they would
    probably want one from themselves.
    You did an excellent
    job on that.🤗🤗

    The variety is what brings me back. I definitely enjoy the solid wood form videos the most but the epoxy videos are closer to reality for me as a novice woodworker as well,

    You should do more with the yellow osage orange. It's a beautiful wood.
    I like both the epoxy/wood and just wood sculptures.

    I don't have a preference on solid wood versus epoxy. I like watching you work around flaws in the wood on the solid pieces and I like the versatility and variety of the epoxy works.
    I vote for using the slab on the shark.

    Your work is awesome on both! Also as for the great white,I would use the log because of the shape and curve it has to it already.

    The T-Rex and the Bull were both INCREDIBLE. But I got into your channel because of the epoxy/wood, which I think are just remarkably unique. So I prefer those ones

    Love the variety of your sculptures but if I had to pick one of your categories, I’d say the combo wood & epoxy ones are my favorite.

    i think a mix of just wood and a wood epoxy combo is good and can appeal to different audiences, as well as give variety to returning viewers
