I know on your video you said it was noncommissioned. The Legasea Aquarium is being built currently by the creator Brian Barcyk in Utica Michigan. Might give them a call as they are building a HUGE shark tank.
I actually really liked the "plain" or "natural" shot from the end of the video. It gave me a better idea of how amazing this sculpture actually looks!
I just don't have the right words for BOTH of you guys' talent. 1200 hours seems like nothing compared to what I would have guessed. The engineering on the mechanism is only matched by the talent on the carving and design. I loved the collaboration! Thanks for letting us in.
Before you even mentioned it, I thought that the "battle scars" were a perfect compliment. I was hoping that you wouldn't eliminate them, and I was pleased to see that you incorporated it with the design.
Gosh, I hope this gets to be in an aquarium or a children's museum. I can see this inspiring so many children to try art and engineering. Amazing job, you two. This sculpture is beautiful.
Children’s Museum of Indianapolis… Also you could send this thing on tour from museum to museum along with a special edit of building the sculpture and how it’s made. Great for anyone in general, not just kids.
You should definitely do more ocean themed projects. Seeing something from the water come to life out of something from the land is poetically and visually perfect. Top tier stuff
This was such a fun project to work on. I really enjoyed collaborating with Blake and working together to bring this thing to life. We coordinated our separate efforts and then were able to unite and work together to see the pursuit in motion. More than anything, I love it when a plan comes together. I can’t thank Blake enough for asking me to join the project and for the wonderful hospitality that the McFarland family provided me for a week. This was a dream collaboration and I can’t wait to see if there is something else we could make in the future… What else could we make?
A wolf chasing a deer, or grizzly chasing a baby elk since he likes doing bears maybe. It would be much harder though cause you would have to engineer a way for the legs to love along with the body. But I got faith in ya you've done harder stuff before
Amazing work. This collab brought me so much fascination and mirth. I was thinking of an Otter family playing with a fish in seaweed. Momma teaching the pups how to fish. Seaweed waving with currents. Maybe a little bioluminescence in seaweed. Jelly fish floating in the water. Or... The "alien" popping out of Bishops belly.
A beating human heart; use an old cardiac monitor that you could put to pacing mode that would control the speed of the heart. Add the monitor to the base.
this thing deserves a place in a Museum... I'm thinking ''Natural History'' just because of the ''pursuit''... it would never fit in an Aquarium for the same reason... perspective!... wonderful job, congrats to both of you!...
An interesting sculpture you could make is to make a coral reef with fish and stuff, then pour epoxy over it, then carv out the epoxy to the shape of a fish, whale, shark, jellyfish, octopus or something, so that it looks like an animal with a coral reef inside.
The shark was awesome to watch you give shape to, and then the motion made it come alive. The seal, though, brought me so much joy. I feel like the seal is a smug little fellow, darting and staying just ahead of the shark, playing. Meanwhile, the shark is all patience, stealth and silent strength and subtlety, biding its time with the hope that persistence will see the seal slip up.
I knew you were up to something epic, but WOW! Thanks for the shoutout and I am beyond impressed/inspired by this project. Absolutely gorgeous work you guys 👏🏼👏🏼
Learnt something new in this episode. If you want to find out a tree specie then what you do is 1. Sniff it 2. Observe it, then 3. Give it a taste - These three steps will give you the correct specie as well as the year it first began it’s life. Who knew aye 😂😂
I think smell/taste can give you the species, and then knowing that, the size of the root base or the diameter of a log can give you a rough idea of the age.
I don’t think you could have found a better chunk of wood for that shark! Not only is it gorgeous but the bug holes were a bonus! And those individual teeth are awesome! The mechanics are beautiful as well and they certainly bring the shark and seal to life…the view from behind is sooo cooool. What an awesome sight! You guys are a great team!
@@BMSculptures Actually, thank you!! 😊 Thank you both for not only collaborating on this beautiful project but for making this great video which made it possible for so many to see what goes into creating such an amazing artful moving sculpture! I love creativity!
I've got artists in my family. My maternal grandmother did oils on canvas and my aunt on my dad's side worked mostly with acrylics. I've always tended to like sculpture. I just think there's "more" to it than a flat painting could ever be. But you've raised it to a whole new level. practically bringing the sculpture to life. If I had the money I'd build a room with this as the centerpiece.
What a Real WOW!! All that time........... Yep you two greats have made a diamond! I'm curious about what the finish is that is followed with the IR lite? This puts "Capital A" in Awesome, Thank you for your Talents
Oh my goodness, with every sculpture you make, they become even more amazing than the last one. This one is truly spectacular- the wood and the fluidity are stunning ( like you, I love the view from behind. Very well done to you both.
Gasp! 😮 That is magnificent!!! 🎉 Capturing the sheer essence of the great white shark and having the fluid motions and it chasing its prey the seal are just breathe taking beautiful! ❤❤❤ I always look forward to each of your beautiful and amazing wood sculptures with or without resin! It is so relaxing to watch you work and explain you ideas of how it's going to look and everything! ❤❤❤
Yes those last shots under normal light were friggin awesome, and THE LASER BEAM Was the swizzle. Maybe Mike Myers would appreciate having the opportunity to acquire the piece.
That is an awesome creation…my only complaint/issue would be the extended gap on the tail fin part of the shark….looks a bit bigger than the rest …..but still I give it an A++ rating
I am filled with so much joy❤ I just watched grown men pour their engineering degrees and probably decades worth of combined trade knowledge into a wooden shark toy with nifty wiggling abilities. Seeing that laser beam thrash around with all the accuracy of a Star Wars Stormtrooper had me laughing out loud. This is the most sophisticated combination of "children at heart" and "boys and their toys" that I've ever seen 😂❤🦈
These are the sort of collabs I love, respect for the other's work while working to make an incredible piece. The end product is absolutely incredible you guys did a fantastic job.

And not only that, but documenting the entire process for the benefit of others. So thank you.
Outstanding piece as expected. As a scuba diver, that ominous serpentine movement is nearly perfect. This coming from a guy thats been up close. One personal note if I may. Many years ago I created a giant redwood puzzle I called Quest. it was officially recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records as the World's largest mechanical puzzle. To the point... I created a mountain of wood chips and saw dust doing it and was approached by the owner of a dog kennel. He wanted it for bedding for his dogs. Maybe thats an option for your waste material? Thanks for the video. I'm never disappointed.
I wonder if the Georgia Aquarium would be interested...one of the biggest and best aquariums in the nation. We just happen to be going in a couple of days!
Every time you mention how blown away you are by the mechanics and engineering, I can't help but imagine how many minute calculations you did in your own mind to carve angles, facets, and curves and then the experience and artistry required to smooth and sand that much wood to have it looking so amazing. In appreciating someone else's expertise you realise how long it must take to get to the point of mastery.
I find myself screaming at the screen “go seal! Go!!!” Gorgeous piece of walnut and the workmanship from both Artists really brings this idea to life. 💖
