We had JUST had this discussion (again) while I was watching this! Needless to say, she now says you are a bad influence on me! Sometimes, “good isn’t good enough” and you have to persevere…ok, so 5 times?! not even sure I’d be able to do that! But the final result was amazing, and you were right, the depth made a big difference! Amazing in effort and results!

Legally they are metric, all of their Imperial Units are defined as multiples or fractions of metric units.
All science is done in metric, a lot of groceries are in metric units and all groceries have to have both.
Like, all their drinks are sold in litres, cans are in ml and cl.
      Engines are in litres.
All tape measures are in both, rulers, that sort of thing.
Like the UK road signs are in miles and speed in mph, weight is in pounds.
But unlike back when it was _true_ Imperial they don't use long and short tons, or hundred weights, stones, pounds and ounces.
They'll just use a single unit like "27,000 lbs", effectively decimalising everything.
I suppose that's a good way of describing it, they use a halfway house of decimal imperial.
It's just the unit size which is different, ounces instead of grammes, pounds instead of kilogrammes.
Nobody will list a distance as miles, yards and inches.
It's Dollars and 100 Cents not Pounds, Shillings and Pence, where there were 20 shillings in a pound and 12 pence per shilling or 240 pence per pound.
There was never 240 cents to the dollar.
      That's the best explanation I've got! 😅
      Does that make sense?

    Apprentice: It's finished boss
Grandad: Oh? How good is it?
    Apprentice: Good enough.
Grandad: GET BACK IN THERE AND MAKE IT FLIPPIN PERFECT!
After some time, Apprentice: It's perfect now boss!

“Good isn’t good enough” is at the same time one kind of perfectionism. It might not be 100% the way you visualise your projects, you still want to do them better than good.
As a fellow perfectionist, as long as you enjoyed the process, it’s a win. You win by having fun, having a protect, and being true to yourself and avoid a bit feeling burnt out.

Good isn’t good enough. This is one of the most amazing pieces of furniture I’ve ever seen being built. The lumber pieces you use is beautiful by itself which makes this cabinet even more impressively beautiful. Being self taught in several crafts myself, I know how much extra work it takes to get everything just right. You’ve mastered your craft and don’t know it. Also, going from the last video of yours I watched before this one, OCPD (Obsessive Compulsive Personality Disorder) is what my psychologist called the behavior of obsessing over one thing or person until you “get stuck on another” as I call it. In my case, I would be obsessed with one relationship to the point of losing friends and family because I couldn’t divide my time between them. I also get stuck on things like cleaning or a project I’m working on until I finish it. That I knew I was doing. It took a very good friend to tell me what I was doing with the people in my life and he helped me teach myself how to have multiple relationships at once. I now have family and friends I spend time with other than my husband. In your case, you do amazing things while being “stuck on” your desired skill.

@JonnyBuilds........Jonny, man, you've outdone yourself! I have been with you for years, but out of all your projects, this one got me 😢! Let me explain. My dad had one single tattoo that I will never forget of a skull and crossbones he got during his time in the military! Over the years, it almost faded to nothing, and when I turned 16, my dad said if I paid for his tattoo to be redone, he'd sign for my first! I did, and it looked amazing! This is where I got my obsession with skulls! I have 16 skull tattoos, and I'm almost covered from head to toe. I have been enjoying watching your tattoo journey grow as much as the projects! This project I swear was made for me.....skulls remind me of my father who we lost to brain cancer just a few years ago, the moth is the first tattoo my wife got in a dream catcher, roses are on her and I both, I also have the stars, and finally the quick glimpse of the old school bird I have on my chest carrying a breast cancer ribbon for the 5 family members I've had battle and kick cancers ass! I WISH I could own something this amazing but being a young family, with our first home, and 2 kids I can't afford a glass of water lol you got me with this one man, pulled on my heart strings! It has my entire family in this piece! Congrats buddy, and amazing work! Thank you! "Good isn't good enough" but this is perfection!

When "good isn't good enough" drives you to excell and create something you can really be proud of that isn't a mistake or a problem. That is inspiration meeting perspiration.
    Beautiful work man.

I've built 100s of roll tops I started with applied backs like that. No good for antiquity. So I started drilling holes 2 inches from ends and middle to run bike cable wire through. Then I found that weed eater twine was perfect for roll top building. Never had 1 come apart or fail in 40 years.just pull tight and use crimp connection to join twine in back recessed Grove. I build roll tops like that small as a business card holder to big as an 8 foot TV entertainment center. Love your work

As a very green woodworker, your quip about asking a better woodworker when met with a hurtle resonated with me. By chance, when confronted with one such disturbance in the force, I found my dream BFF John Malecki. This was perhaps a week ago, and I have been stalking him morning, noon, and 2am CST ever since. After watching this video, subscribing and liking, watch out buddy, I’m onto you. I’m pretty sure John could never say “good isn’t good enough” with a straight face, but only because that Yinzer is has an entirely too good a humor towards everything. Yet, watching him, and now you, the catch phrase in question is something I aspire to. Thank you. And to those… 2, maybe 3 of you who got this far in reading, and are heavily tattooed like me and my understudy bestie, Johnny B.; stop with the “tattoos don’t hurt” nonsense. They do, and you’re not fooling anyone.

You know what Jonny, you can’t please all the people all the time, so don’t beat yourself up trying to!!
I love your channel, and you want to know why, because you give me a wood maker wanna be, hope! You are so honest and don’t try bullshitting us into believing that making beautiful furniture is going to be a breeze, quick and pain-free! So many other channels, I watch, they cut out all the problems, mistakes made while making the furniture and try to portray themselves as master carpenters. We all know “ They are the bullshitters” and we also know that they’re not master carpenters!
So I appreciate you for your honesty, you’re a very genuine, nice guy, and I appreciate you taking the time to make the videos while working as hard as you do making furniture and taking time out to put together videos for us to watch. And Jonny, the thing I love the most is your honesty and your storytelling , I ramble also, so I appreciate another rambler. And you have great stories. You’ve had a lot of adventure in your life. I’m in a wheelchair, I had a left leg amputation above the knee 2004 which definitely put a damper on many adventure, opportunities that I dreamed of! I had my own business doing light, carpentry and homes, some tile work would work and masonry, but most of all painting homes interior or exterior !
Due to other circumstances, I cannot wear a prosthesis, so everything I do is done in a wheelchair.
(Now I have this dream of wanting to make wood decorations, birdcages, or anything that I could try to sell for some extra money on UA-cam or anywhere else! And you give me hope, because you tell the truth that it’s not gonna be easy and straightforward without mistakes and errors!)
So I just wanted to thank you. Carolyn Dignam.

That is the most beautiful shoe bench I've ever seen. If i were'nt broke I would definitely hit you up for the "failed" doors. And walnut too! My favorite wood. I feel your pain though. Idk if I would have the patience to redo something 5 times but wow did it pay off. Truly a masterpiece to be proud of.

First time viewing anything on your channel. That was a lot of work you put into that beautiful cabinet. I hope you are proud of it. I used to make stained glass, and my eyes would always go straight to my mistakes. I called it the curse of the maker.
I wasn't satisfied with that reverse pyramid sliding cover you first made, but knew from your thumbnail it would get there...eventually.
Well done! And well worth the subscription. I hope to see more content.

“Good isn’t good enough” I myself have always been a perfectionist and have struggled with efficiency sometimes because of it so I get it. I sure am glad UA-cam recommended your channel. Sub’d right away. I really like what you do and your creativity. My unfulfilled dream was/is to design my own furniture. This video’s build was fantastic and I’m looking forward to binge watching your previous projects. Have you made a rolltop desk yet? I guess I’ll find out! Keep up the outstanding work Jonny, see you on the next one.

Jonny, I have a suggestion that might be of some help in the future. Build a vacum champer for the infusion process. The next time you need to infuse wood with any material.
Use any type of metal talk that will hold your materials. Robe an old compressor off any cooling unit to make your vacuum pump. A refrigerator compressor will work but bigger is always better.
    By the way, beautiful work.
