Dropping a comment to just say, eyedesyn, I love you. I love everything about you. I love your face, your beautiful knowledge filled face. If this channel ever goes down, I will cry.
Awesome tutorial. On the Photoshop problem. If this is happening to you (eyedropper is making your sampled color the background instead of foreground) check your Color palette. There is a little Foreground/Background icon there as well. It's kind of difficult to see but there's a little gray outline around either the foreground or background swatch. If that outline is on the background color your eyedropper will make whatever color you sample the background color. Just click on the foreground swatch to change the sampling back to the foreground. EDIT: You can copy and paste materials between C4D projects without applying them to objects. Just select all the materials you want in the Material Manager, hit Command/Control + C, open a new file, make sure you're in the Material Manager, hit Command/Control+V.
I cannot thank you enough for this tutorial! Please send Kristin and Coban my love for sharing their knowledge with us, all that Kristin showed in this tutorial is practical and handy and that is exactly what I was looking for. Thank you, thank you so much.
E.J. Thank you for encouraging Coban and Kristin to do this...Thank you Coban and Kristin, This was a great tutorial, .... U'v demystified UVing on so many levels,... I followed along and realized that it really isn't all the difficult once you realize the principals. Thanks again, I wish you two the best in your en devours.
This tutorial is incredible, I have never had it explained to me in this way, but the time taken and the way it is explained from a very basic understanding is just what I needed. Thanks so much for uploading.
You should try 'create uv poly layer' instead of the selection you made. You get a finer, more accurate line on the uv map. Just make sure the color is what you want.
This tutorial is absolutely fantastic - sadly I still cannot replicate these techniques to my own objects. This is probably the hardest part of Cinema 4D, so convoluted and unnecessarily difficult.
This tutorial is so good that I, having never done UV unrapping prior to this video, was able to do this and it made me wonder how this can ever be called hard (keep in mind that is my ignorance speaking! im just saying, its a great tutorial!!)
Great explanation for beginners, but I need to mention that for complex meshes C4D UV tools are really painful. UVlayoutpro is a beast. You can group shells, unwrap meshes extremely fast, copy shells for clones and much more
Very good and usefull information. Question. At 09:50min you see an example of a cube which is being unfolded on the floor. I can't seem to find any tutorial where they explain this. How do you do it with cube and objects?
So cool :) amazing class as always.I have a question is there any way to have noisey texture combine with a more classic and 3d material.Combining the best of both worlds?
Hello, i tried to read all comments but nothing about my question so ... How did you unfold your model at first (to get what you have to reproduce after), i mean the keyframed part in 3D ? Thank you and sorry for noob !
especially for 2d styles ;)..... And is it possible to add paint directly to the object? And paint alpha, reflection, transparency and glow (if that's possible in C4D) If so that might be a cool tutorial idea
You can do this in Bodypaint but I stopped using it a while back. Substance Painter is the way to go & I'm not sure BP will ever catchup. Shame as BP was leading the way but that was many years ago.
Why nobody mention UDIMs or multiple UVs? I always search for Cinema 4d and udims, and never found anything. Wondering if Body paint can paint multiple UVs like Mari?
anyone know of a C4D tutorial on how to unwrap and add textures from a toy company in Illustrator mapped to an object? I've been looking for months and have not had any luck
eyedesyn no. i mean that unwrapping animation. (refer to time stamps) is it part of bodypaint features? some kind of tweaking parameters or is the animation made manually?
it's their first tutorial! you should watch some of my firsts, a lot of ums! and i bet if you try to make a tutorial you would do the same haha! sometimes we need to practice to remove the ums...i still do them! :)
I'm sorry but you do it so complicated where there are way easier techniques. It's good for total beginners but I think you did a really bad job in covering seams and everything thats beyond beginner level isnt even touched.
The fact you made this an 1 hour long tutorial and 6000 + people watched it is a pretty good achievement.
Totally, UV Unwrapping is a loaded subject!
Dropping a comment to just say, eyedesyn, I love you. I love everything about you. I love your face, your beautiful knowledge filled face. If this channel ever goes down, I will cry.
The best UV Mapping tutorial on UA-cam!

Thanks for the tips!!!
I cannot thank you enough for this tutorial! Please send Kristin and Coban my love for sharing their knowledge with us, all that Kristin showed in this tutorial is practical and handy and that is exactly what I was looking for. Thank you, thank you so much.
Makes a difficult topic very simple to approach. Thanks very much!
The thought of having to dust that shelf behind you makes my soul cry.

I hate unwrapping!!!! But somebody has to do it... This was great! Thanks for sharing your process.
thx, i've struggled with uv map for 2 month, u really helping me
awesome to hear, thanks for waching!
Both of them are my new heroes!
theyre so good!
The best video about UV Mapping on UA-cam! You are UVqueen 😀
thanks for watching!
Finally a good in-depth tutorial about UV mapping in Cinema. Thanks!
Glad to hear that! Thanks for watching!
great tutorial! But can we talk how cool the endproduct looks? So nice!
Yes you can!
Yay, tutorial on how to utilize Bodypaint! Never used its features before, now to go and try it. Thank you for great videos as always!
Hope you enjoy it!
This is such a good tutorial, thank you for putting in the time and effort. It has really helped me out.
Finally UV mapping explained properly! THANK YOU!
I know right!? Happy that the Edison folks were willing to share their breakdown!!
Oh yes. Cinema 4D's uv mapping system is...weird, to say the least. It's nice to see a hands on/project based approach.
Finally. I've been doing it in Maya for years now I can stick with c4d
yayyyyy!
Super helpful and with a real world outcome at the end too. Will be saving this one. Thanks!
Awesome to hear! Thanks for watching!
You should try 'create uv poly layer' instead of the selection you made. You get a finer, more accurate line on the uv map. Just make sure the color is what you want.
super helpful and a really methodical insight - thanks guys
thanks for watching!
Great tutorial!
I've struggled with these features for so long. Very helpful and generous of everyone's time EJ. Thanks for sharing so much!
I honestly only came for the "coin slap texturing" part 57:41 :D but ended up learning everything about UV mapping, Thanks!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching!
Thank you guys so much for taking your time and make such a well put great tutorial!
Thanks for watching!
I basically follow the same process- but I've never made or used a checkerboard or collapse UV's. This is definitely going to improve my workflow.
Glad to hear it! Thanks for watching!
This tutorial is absolutely fantastic - sadly I still cannot replicate these techniques to my own objects. This is probably the hardest part of Cinema 4D, so convoluted and unnecessarily difficult.
Agreed, hopefully MAXON updates Bodypaint soon!
This tutorial is so good that I, having never done UV unrapping prior to this video, was able to do this and it made me wonder how this can ever be called hard (keep in mind that is my ignorance speaking! im just saying, its a great tutorial!!)
Really cool only was a bit harder to follow as my cinema 4D uv layout is really different and I had no idea how to change it to match your workflow.
Great explanation for beginners, but I need to mention that for complex meshes C4D UV tools are really painful. UVlayoutpro is a beast. You can group shells, unwrap meshes extremely fast, copy shells for clones and much more
Oh and it would be great to learn how the unwrapping of drone mesh in the viewport was animated) Pose morph, PSR keyframing or something else?
OMG. The best tutorial I've watched on this topic. Thanks and I'm bookmarking this tutorial front and center.
Happy to hear it! I agree!!! :)
same here
holy crap that collection in the background!!! OMFG!!
you guys are heroes.
Great stuff. This will really help me in my work. I've been looking for a tutorial like this for a while!! Thanks so much.
Great tutorial. Thank you guys!
Thanks for watching!
Very good and usefull information. Question. At 09:50min you see an example of a cube which is being unfolded on the floor. I can't seem to find any tutorial where they explain this. How do you do it with cube and objects?
Nice quick and easy method for using C4D UV Mapping. Cheers.
Great instructor, very very good video.
Thank you very much!
learned a few tricks, thanks guys.
Thanks for watching!
THANKS GUYS for the tutorial! Also thanks for the last mograph meet-up in hollywood and the pizza!
Glad you made it to the meetup! And thank Ko for that awesome DMALA meetup (if that's the one you're talking about), he's awesome!

Nice tut! Thank you! What about UVUnwraping for Subdiv?
Thank you! Super Helpful
Awesome and interesting tutorial! Very nice! Befor I do something with UVs I do "Optimal Mapping" - isn't it necessary.?
Great tutorial!!! Thank you very Much!!
Thanks! Really was looking for this
Thanks for watching!
Hey loved this video are you guys gonna make a book on C4D or do you have a tutorial site Kristin have a site?
Thanks a lot - best UV tutorial I have seen :-)
I was saved by this video.
awesome!!!!
So cool :) amazing class as always.I have a question is there any way to have noisey texture combine with a more classic and 3d material.Combining the best of both worlds?
Do you mean adding grain to your cel shading? I have a tutorial on that ua-cam.com/video/8SHNsKjnAgs/v-deo.html
I mean adding grain to a diffuse or reflectance materiak
good dear teacher 😇thank you a lot
Thanks for watching!
Your work has been mentioned in the discussion of Motion Lovers Facebook Group
Now all you need is to get Substance Painter 2 and you'll make AMAZING projects.
Bodypaint is def behind the times!
Yup. It was once best-of-class but hasn't got much attention in the past decade.
hopefully a nice update for BP is on the horizon!
Hello, i tried to read all comments but nothing about my question so ... How did you unfold your model at first (to get what you have to reproduce after), i mean the keyframed part in 3D ? Thank you and sorry for noob !
Thats an animation done by hand
More UV unwrapping/Bodypaint tutorials sounds dope + character rigging just saying
MOre to come for sure! Thanks for watching!
especially for 2d styles ;)..... And is it possible to add paint directly to the object? And paint alpha, reflection, transparency and glow (if that's possible in C4D) If so that might be a cool tutorial idea
using bodypaint you can paint directly on the object using brushes!
You can do this in Bodypaint but I stopped using it a while back. Substance Painter is the way to go & I'm not sure BP will ever catchup. Shame as BP was leading the way but that was many years ago.
Yah But i wanna be able to do 2d type style and i'm not sure if substance can do that
best tutorial, thanks!!
Thanks for watching!
thanks helpful vid
Thanks for watching!

That lady looks like Cobie Smulders.
Thanks for the tutorial.
when was the last significant update to this limited UV tools ? Do they even care for actual asset creation and only catters to motion graphic crowds.
WOW
Thanks guys!
Thank you!
Whoooo, so dope.
nice one!!! and he reminded me a lil bit of bob ross with his talking :) (happy little textures there it's your own little world)
she is awesome!!!
Awesome...

Amazing info! Thanks)

anyone know of a C4D tutorial on how to unwrap and add textures from a toy company in Illustrator mapped to an object? I've been looking for months and have not had any luck

@9:49 10:43 how do u do that unwrap animation? is it some kind of a plugin??
someone help me out
Bodypaint is included in C4D Studio
eyedesyn no. i mean that unwrapping animation. (refer to time stamps) is it part of bodypaint features? some kind of tweaking parameters or is the animation made manually?
Can you show us how to paint weights for a rigged character in cinema 4d?
I plan on it someday!
eyedesyn that would be great!! I love your tutorials :)
Thanks for the kind words!!!
Brush name?
How to get the model for lesson ?
Sorry but I do not provide project files, you can create your own objects and give this a try!
Wow your teeth is whiter than it's possible lol. Make a tutorial about that. :D

worse UV tools of other 3d software. Softimage xsi 15 years ago have better tools than CInema now have in 2018 year. Stupid development.
Nice teaching but soooooooo many Ums ... Um ... Um. Every end of phrase I should say. An hour long, it’s painfull
it's their first tutorial! you should watch some of my firsts, a lot of ums! and i bet if you try to make a tutorial you would do the same haha! sometimes we need to practice to remove the ums...i still do them! :)
I'm sorry but you do it so complicated where there are way easier techniques. It's good for total beginners but I think you did a really bad job in covering seams and everything thats beyond beginner level isnt even touched.
this is why its called "intro to UV mapping" and not advanced UV mapping! :)
Ugh UVs...
