Also, to add onto the separating papers/plastics: PLEASE make sure you're separating them and not throwing non-recyclables into the recycling!!!!!!!!!!!! *The recycling where I lived a couple years ago got shut down because the machines kept getting clogged with trash and it was too expensive to maintain* with all those constant repairs, so they just stopped servicing our area. Being mindful of what you put in what bin is SUPER important!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Also, the Magic Mixling Pixie doll containers can be reused for makeup brushes, doll accessories, markers, pens, etc. Just an idea. 😁✨

Thrifting/yardsaleing is one of my favorite ways to get dolls theres just something about the excitement of finding a rare doll or finding a well loved doll to fix up and give a new home! I found really cool dolls for only 50 cents once!

Haven’t watched the video yet but I really wish companies would stop making huge plastic packaging(ex skulltimate secrets magic mixies) because I know if I buy the doll I’ll just have to either A-never use that or b- throw it out for space and feel guilty for that

I feel another issue with this is the amount of blind box dolls. When they’re so hard to track getting the one someone actually wants, it leads to undesired overconsumption and therefore more waste. I seriously wish they would trash the “surprise” gimmick. Even my younger family members get upset when they see dolls they like are blind box now 😅 Many are getting sick of it!

@@phelinmelon1007 I actually think a perfect compromise is just!Putting codes on there. That way people looking for a specific one can find it and people who want to be surprised can just not check.

@@h0rrorscope Oh yes I certainly agree! I hear the LPS (not really dolls but I’d like to use them as an example) did that which is lovely. I hope other blind box gimmick dolls do the same and it eventually becomes more of a norm

One type of doll collector that always bugged me is that type who exclusively buys modern day dolls that are in stores & posts them on social media etc only to then start selling almost all of those doll collections as soon as the hype of the brand died down (whats happening with Rainbow High right now) & then they move on the the next thing. Environmentally speaking that is absolutely horrific lol

This is something i have been really grappling with lately as someone new to the hobby of doll collecting and customizing.
I'm really unimpressed with moose toys and the magic mixies stuff. I think it's good that lots of people are being vocal with their dislike for the excessive plastic packaging it really is quite egregious but it just seems to be getting worse!
I mostly get dolls second hand but there's definitely times i have loved something and bought it new and there is a certain amount of guilt and shame i have knowing I'm supporting these companies.

In my brain I thought buying many dolls was a good thing, and maybe it’s different scenarios because I use to work at a thrift store and they would literally just throw away products (especially dolls) if no one bought them after a while, and from what I heard from people that use to work at stores like target back in the day is that they will throw away good items as well such as batteries and what not (not too sure about dolls here).
Maybe it’s different depending on item or area?? But I feel like that’s why not buying dolls from physical stores is a problem because they could end in a landfill, or get trash compacted. I am aware that this isn’t the case all the time but it’s just what my brain fears.
Also, it’s great to buy dolls in person which I encourage people to do if they can because it lets the stores know that people are interested in the product so they will purchase more of them!
If I’m wrong about the previous stuff I just said please let me know!
edit: also based on some research I did on recycling when it comes to toys, of course you can’t recycle all toys because they may have things like screws or springs of course, HOWEVER if it’s 100% plastic you can recycle them! So things like doll brushes I believe are recyclable based on the information I learned! Proceed with caution.

I really wish companies wouldn’t use SO much packaging, it’s so annoying!! I am trying to buy a lot less than previous years (lack of disposable income is helping ;) but I am trying to really really think about what dolls I want and what dolls I want to wait to go on sale (which doesn’t quite help with me creating content but oh well 😂). I also am starting to buy more dolls second hand by Facebook marketplace or thrift stores and it’s actually really fun to find dolls I’ve wanted for years 😄 I do normally buy online for new dolls because new stock takes forever to get to my stores but if a dolls has been around for a while then I try to buy in stores (unless Amazon has an amazing deal). I do wish I was crafty but I just don’t have the patience, I’ll see some of My Froggy Stuff’s crafts and they always amaze me! But yes I do try to keep the little rubber bands! Oh now that I think about it, my sister-in-law is very crafty and I bet she might want some of my doll packaging! Thanks, Rainn! 😄 And yes I do recycle when I can, I remove the plastic portions from the cardboard and then recycle the cardboard.

thank you so much for this video, such an important topic! i also think if we buy less, the companies start to produce less. then maybe the doll lines they will produce will have fewer dolls but more details and better quality. there was a barbie line made out of ocean plastic, why don't they just use that plastic for at least every base doll? or they could (as a company) take back the dolls they didn't sell and use the body to make different lines. like why do they have to produce every doll from the ground up?

I'm glad you made this video because I feel like we as consumers should be more aware of the environment and more critical of the companies.
And also to add on, I got Slumber Party Jade recently and she has like cardboard-like packaging for the actual doll but all the accessories are covered with plastic ties. It felt weird because I think that cardboard was great step forward.

Personally I collect most of the box art off the back of the dolls and put in a scrapbook. Then there’s only a few pieces of plastic left that end up in the trash.

My husband collects G.I. Joe Classifieds which (briefly) went from plastic and cardboard packaging to all cardboard. The problem occurred when collectors purchase the figures found accessories missing (they use to be clearly displayed within plastic packaging) or they were unhappy with the paint job on the figures. Due to those issues Hasbro (the company making the G.I. Joes) have gone back to being plastic amd cardboard. The first earlier dolls of LOL OMG were all cardboard but collectors also complained that they couldn't see the doll's face, returning dolls that were not perfect. We can ask companies to change but there will always be those that complain and find ways to make the positive change a negative. I personally wish there were less plastic connectors to dolls, it ruins the clothes and stays stuck in the dolls head.
