wish there was a love button. My youngest brother, 15yrs my junior, introduced me to Sailor Moon. When his nieces were born he made certain they also saw it. Your explanation helped me understand a couple questions I had and couldn't understand regarding the astrology association. now it makes sense to me. @@christopherrenstromastro not certain where I've seen 2 different UA-cam readers using them. They were only the Major Arcana. Looking up where I could purchase a deck I found that deck being used in the videos I saw wasa limited release for the 25 year anniversary. Etsy is the best place to look. On Etsy I saw that one official deck and what looked like a fan created deck too. But I'm not positive. Although I've probably seen all the different ones, the ones I remember most are the movies. My daughters and nieces had several of the movies on VHS they watched daily for years. Especially whenever they went to each other's homes.

You're not going to believe this, but I knew sailor moon was much more than a simple cartoon, it has so much esoteric knowledge hidden in in it. It changed my life and it changed the world too. I used to watch it as a child in the 90s (I was like 9 or 10). I don't know... It's going to sound crazy, but sometimes I think it was a channel to the feminine energies sort of awakening more strongly since it was aired. I was pondering on how I haven't seen a true break down of Sailor Moon's astrology from the perspective of a committed astrologer. I could see how there was so much astrological content. Yeah finally a professional astrologer talk about Sailor Moon XD I always think about this manga in astrology aspect but not many people care about manga/anime to discuss. 1:35:48 Both Haruka Tenou and Sailor Uranus has female body. Takeuchi confirmed that. Haruka just usually dress like male :")) Sailor Uranus first appearance in manga was in tuxedo too. 1:49:00 In manga, Hotaru's father was not that bad. Although he was a mad scientist, he really loved his daughter. When Hotaru was caught in a fire, he accepted the invitation of the darkness to make his daughter a vessel of Lady 90 to keep his daughter alive. Hotaru was fated to die, because there's no need for Sailor Saturn (Sailor Saturn's mission was to destroy everything). But because of her father action, not only "Sailor Saturn kept living", but also new enemy came to the earth. And Sailor Saturn woke up to destroy the enemy and herself, put everything back to their place. Just think like this, no Saturn, no enemy; yes Saturn, yes enemy. That story was about "karma". Saturn is the planet of karma. The manga portrayed this aspect better than anime. In anime 199x it's just a mainstream tragedy plot. (However anime had many scenes of other characters that's good too XD I love Neptune and Uranus scenes)

Sailor Moon was introduced me first, which lead to my fascination with astronomy and then into astrology. I learned about constellations and the zodiac from reading several book about space when I was a kid.
First experience on Saturday nights around 1978 my grandma would host Tarot card reading parties on Sunday she was involved in the Methodist church so involved she lived on the property. By the time I was 15 I bought my first tarot deck which lead to exploring metaphysical stores in Cleveland Ohio. At 52 just finished year two of Hellenistic astrology studies. It’s taken years to understand and I look forward to many more years of learning. Hobby turns lifestyle! Family fruits don’t fall far from the Tree!
I’m a Halloween 1985 Scorpio child with Sag rising, born in Rio, Brazil. Brazil has taken the largest migration of Japanese people after the second war, and they settled in the most populous state in Brazil called São Paulo. Up until today it remains the place with the largest Japanese community outside of Japan. Sailor Moon (along with Dragon Ball, another big hit filled with Japanese folklore and exoteric symbolisms) was my introduction to the Japanese phenomenon, and with 14 years old I was taking Japanese classes and 7hour bus rides alone, from Rio to São Paulo, to attend Anime Fairs. Cosplaying was the obvious next step. Being an abnormally tall Brazilian girl (at the time I already achieved my 5,11’ height), my very first cosplay was Makoto Kino, Sailor Jupiter. Shortly after, I was singing in Japanese with my teenage J-Rock band for surprisingly large crowds on these events, something that lasted a couple of years. This was before the smart phone era, and I hardly have any proof in pictures of this great momentum of my teenage years. Nowadays I’m a 38 years old multidisciplinary artist and Product Designer living in Bilbao, Spain, and this story, my story!, seems like a past life, something odd and beautiful buried in my memory. Thank you for bringing it all up Chris, I never thought I would elect a favorite episode from you, but this one brought tears of joy to my eyes, beginning to end. Just started watching this - but love it already! I am an astrologer and I loved Sailor Moon as a kid in the 90s. I was about 8 years old when the series first came on TV in the US. When I look back now, I always say that it was my first exposure to astrology. I learned the planetary symbols because of Sailor Moon! Returning to it as an adult, after learning astrology, is also interesting because you can see how clearly the creator used astrological archetypes. It is really a brilliant examination of the archetypes in action. And yes, it also incorporates a lot of eastern astrology as well, which is often overlooked by westerners looking at the show so I’m glad you also brought that in. I’ve thought a long time about making an article about this but never got around to it so it’s fun to see someone finally doing this in a deep way. Excited to hear your interpretation 😊

@@christopherrenstromastro Just finished watching the video now, and I must say this was incredibly impressive. The attention to detail is awesome. You really show love for the series and you picked up on so many things I didn’t know or never considered. Black Lady as Black Moon Lilith, for example - I had never thought of that, and it makes total sense. You did a great job showing how deep the rabbit hole goes in terms of mythology references, and it made me wonder if the archetypal nature of the entire story is one of the reasons why it is so beloved and why it has had longevity. It taps into so many collective unconscious mythological memories. This manga is so rich that there’s even more fun/layered details beyond the huge amount you already mentioned here - like the villains in the first arc being named after different crystals (and curiously the fact that they are all “earthlings,” as you point out in this video, is a neat tie in to that), and in later arcs characters representing the asteroids and other star systems coming into play. I feel that the general plot also has a lot of metaphysical commentary. Takeuchi really knew her stuff and did something interesting that is much more than meets the eye. Apparently Neon Genesis Evangelion’s author was a big fan of Sailor Moon and you can see a similar approach to metaphysics as a storytelling device in that series as well. Anyway - great work. You really gave me a whole new level of appreciation for Sailor Moon and I was already a fan! I know this video will be enjoyed by many! Thank you!
I only watched part the anime (I think) so hearing the story like the author intended it makes me so happy. Learning about Sailor Saturns story arc made me cry 😭 this now made me want to read the whole manga. Your storytelling and with how much love and empathy you did it was so heartwarming and amazing!

When I first started getting serious about studying astrology, a few months ago, I picked up a Sailor Moon coffee cup from a thrift store. What!?!? You dear astrology! I just watched a documentary on S.M. and her squad!! Parents always read the morning paper and Mom would always share ours and our families. At age 10 I checked out a Greek Mythology book and within weeks I’d also read every book our library provided on Astrology. I read everything everywhere that crossed my path. Pre-computers, I’d draw up charts using a compass and ruler and books. I had my first reading by 19, many since then, and am still living my life by the flow of the Celestial and Divine. I’m neurodivergent and it’s been one of my “obsessions”. I also give it credit as loose archetypes that helps me socially and to under the world. (As well as helping to give some space because none of us are just our Sun sign. ) Thank you for your videos. I’ve enjoyed them more and more this year. ☀️♉️🌙♑️🌅♌️

I always thought the Sailor soldiers’ personalities have close resemblance to the archetypes of planets (except Pluto and Saturn, which seems to have been swapped) and their corresponding Sun signs. This was the best overview of the Sailor Moon story and symbolism I've ever experienced. It replenished my fascination for the manga/anime and the astrological and Chinese/Japanese symbolism was especially well explained and combined together. I've never come across something that mixed them together so easily and I study astrology for quite a few years.
My mom would talk about how she wanted Leo children ( my sister is 8/21, my due date was 8/17 - I was born 8/30 ) and one day on the boardwalk I put money into a game and it said to pick my sign and it would give me a fortune. I felt that it described me to a tea and from then when I’ve been obsessed, I was 10 years old. I absolutely love Sailor Moon and was crazy about it in high school and it still holds a special place in my heart. Ty so much! This is amazing.

Naoko didn't have children until after Sailor Moon ended and she met her husband. Her son was born in 2000 and her daughter in 2009.

Looking up where I could purchase a deck I found that deck being used in the videos I saw wasa limited release for the 25 year anniversary. Etsy is the best place to look.
On Etsy I saw that one official deck and what looked like a fan created deck too. But I'm not positive.
Although I've probably seen all the different ones, the ones I remember most are the movies. My daughters and nieces had several of the movies on VHS they watched daily for years. Especially whenever they went to each other's homes.

You're not going to believe this, but I knew sailor moon was much more than a simple cartoon, it has so much esoteric knowledge hidden in in it. It changed my life and it changed the world too. I used to watch it as a child in the 90s (I was like 9 or 10). I don't know... It's going to sound crazy, but sometimes I think it was a channel to the feminine energies sort of awakening more strongly since it was aired. Hahaha I'm going to stop before I sound more nuts, I'm sorry, but I'm a big fan and Naoko Takeuchi is a big creative referent for me, I admire her even more after I watched this video. I can feel the love and respect through the screen that you have for Sailor Moon. You light up so much when doing her catchphrases, and the way you read about the scouts is moving. I haven't even finished this video, but I feel so fortunate to have found it. I am a lover of both astrology and Sailor Moon. I am still a novice, and I am studying my astrology day by day. I was pondering on how I haven't seen a true break down of Sailor Moon's astrology from the perspective of a committed astrologer. I could see how there was so much astrological content. Then this video found me shortly after! I now have seen it. I pray Naoko Takeuchi finds this somehow. For I am sure it would definitely touch her heart. What an absolute work of love and honor this is. Inteding all lovers of both astrology and sailor moon come across this. Yeah finally a professional astrologer talk about Sailor Moon XD I always think about this manga in astrology aspect but not many people care about manga/anime to discuss.
1:35:48 Both Haruka Tenou and Sailor Uranus has female body. Takeuchi confirmed that. Haruka just usually dress like male :")) Sailor Uranus first appearance in manga was in tuxedo too.
1:49:00 In manga, Hotaru's father was not that bad. Although he was a mad scientist, he really loved his daughter. When Hotaru was caught in a fire, he accepted the invitation of the darkness to make his daughter a vessel of Lady 90 to keep his daughter alive. Hotaru was fated to die, because there's no need for Sailor Saturn (Sailor Saturn's mission was to destroy everything). But because of her father action, not only "Sailor Saturn kept living", but also new enemy came to the earth. And Sailor Saturn woke up to destroy the enemy and herself, put everything back to their place. Just think like this, no Saturn, no enemy; yes Saturn, yes enemy. That story was about "karma". Saturn is the planet of karma. The manga portrayed this aspect better than anime. In anime 199x it's just a mainstream tragedy plot. (However anime had many scenes of other characters that's good too XD I love Neptune and Uranus scenes)

As a Mexican American the earliest I remember was watching Walter Mercado read the horoscopes in Spanish.
Walter mercado was very famous in Brazil too, he had an astrology hotline here. There are still people who use his catchphrase ‘ligue djá’ amongst us older millennials 😂 those calls were EXPENSIVE
Sailor Moon was introduced me first, which lead to my fascination with astronomy and then into astrology. I learned about constellations and the zodiac from reading several book about space when I was a kid.

First experience on Saturday nights around 1978 my grandma would host Tarot card reading parties on Sunday she was involved in the Methodist church so involved she lived on the property. By the time I was 15 I bought my first tarot deck which lead to exploring metaphysical stores in Cleveland Ohio. At 52 just finished year two of Hellenistic astrology studies. It’s taken years to understand and I look forward to many more years of learning. Hobby turns lifestyle! Family fruits don’t fall far from the Tree!

I’m a Halloween 1985 Scorpio child with Sag rising, born in Rio, Brazil. Brazil has taken the largest migration of Japanese people after the second war, and they settled in the most populous state in Brazil called São Paulo. Up until today it remains the place with the largest Japanese community outside of Japan. Sailor Moon (along with Dragon Ball, another big hit filled with Japanese folklore and exoteric symbolisms) was my introduction to the Japanese phenomenon, and with 14 years old I was taking Japanese classes and 7hour bus rides alone, from Rio to São Paulo, to attend Anime Fairs. Cosplaying was the obvious next step. Being an abnormally tall Brazilian girl (at the time I already achieved my 5,11’ height), my very first cosplay was Makoto Kino, Sailor Jupiter. Shortly after, I was singing in Japanese with my teenage J-Rock band for surprisingly large crowds on these events, something that lasted a couple of years. This was before the smart phone era, and I hardly have any proof in pictures of this great momentum of my teenage years. Nowadays I’m a 38 years old multidisciplinary artist and Product Designer living in Bilbao, Spain, and this story, my story!, seems like a past life, something odd and beautiful buried in my memory. Thank you for bringing it all up Chris, I never thought I would elect a favorite episode from you, but this one brought tears of joy to my eyes, beginning to end. You’re my favorite storyteller on planet Earth.

Just started watching this - but love it already! I am an astrologer and I loved Sailor Moon as a kid in the 90s. I was about 8 years old when the series first came on TV in the US. When I look back now, I always say that it was my first exposure to astrology. I learned the planetary symbols because of Sailor Moon! Returning to it as an adult, after learning astrology, is also interesting because you can see how clearly the creator used astrological archetypes. It is really a brilliant examination of the archetypes in action. And yes, it also incorporates a lot of eastern astrology as well, which is often overlooked by westerners looking at the show so I’m glad you also brought that in. I’ve thought a long time about making an article about this but never got around to it so it’s fun to see someone finally doing this in a deep way. Excited to hear your interpretation 😊

@@christopherrenstromastro Just finished watching the video now, and I must say this was incredibly impressive. The attention to detail is awesome. You really show love for the series and you picked up on so many things I didn’t know or never considered. Black Lady as Black Moon Lilith, for example - I had never thought of that, and it makes total sense. You did a great job showing how deep the rabbit hole goes in terms of mythology references, and it made me wonder if the archetypal nature of the entire story is one of the reasons why it is so beloved and why it has had longevity. It taps into so many collective unconscious mythological memories.
This manga is so rich that there’s even more fun/layered details beyond the huge amount you already mentioned here - like the villains in the first arc being named after different crystals (and curiously the fact that they are all “earthlings,” as you point out in this video, is a neat tie in to that), and in later arcs characters representing the asteroids and other star systems coming into play. I feel that the general plot also has a lot of metaphysical commentary. Takeuchi really knew her stuff and did something interesting that is much more than meets the eye.
Apparently Neon Genesis Evangelion’s author was a big fan of Sailor Moon and you can see a similar approach to metaphysics as a storytelling device in that series as well.
Anyway - great work. You really gave me a whole new level of appreciation for Sailor Moon and I was already a fan! I know this video will be enjoyed by many! Thank you!
I only watched part the anime (I think) so hearing the story like the author intended it makes me so happy. Learning about Sailor Saturns story arc made me cry 😭 this now made me want to read the whole manga. Your storytelling and with how much love and empathy you did it was so heartwarming and amazing!

I grew up with the first anime adaption in the 90s and I can't believe I've been a Sailor Moon fan for all my life without knowing its parallels to Taoism, Shintoism, Eastern/Western mythology, as well as the finer aspects of the girls' personality traits and their ruling planets / astrology. That's the beauty of Sailor Moon don't you think? It takes place on so many levels yet Takeuchi is such a brilliant storyteller that you don't really need to know all the connections to enjoy the manga. But once you start digging . . . 😊

My first big astrology memory is going to the Scholastic book warehouse as a 7 or 8 year old with my friend and her mom. I didn’t have any money with me, but her mom let me pick out a book. I chose a mini meaning of birthdays book that I carried around in my backpack for the rest of my school years 😂 I still have it! It’s so 90’s, it’s awesome. Parents always read the morning paper and Mom would always share ours and our families. At age 10 I checked out a Greek Mythology book and within weeks I’d also read every book our library provided on Astrology.
I read everything everywhere that crossed my path. Pre-computers, I’d draw up charts using a compass and ruler and books. I had my first reading by 19, many since then, and am still living my life by the flow of the Celestial and Divine.
I’m neurodivergent and it’s been one of my “obsessions”. I also give it credit as loose archetypes that helps me socially and to under the world. (As well as helping to give some space because none of us are just our Sun sign. )

The almighty algorithm sent me this just now and OMG FINALLY a Western astrologer takes a seriously look at the astrology of Sailor Moon! I always thought the Sailor soldiers’ personalities have close resemblance to the archetypes of planets (except Pluto and Saturn, which seems to have been swapped) and their corresponding Sun signs. I remember watching this series when I was a child. I was so intrigued and interested in the topics in this series.
I'm still impressed with topics Takeuchi chose to take on in the series. And when you remember that this was back in the 90s it makes her work all the more daring. Sailor Moon is a unique combination of timely and evergreen. Quite an accomplishment! 😊
I remember in 5th grade I aced the astronomy chapter in my class because of Sailor Moon. We were tested on the names of the planets and I wrote them down in 10 seconds flat!

Amazing! As I was born in 94, Sailor Moon always have been my favorite anime even as small child, I would always secretly watch it in cartoon network after mom kissed me goodnight, hehe. And since you've asked, it brought me back that my first contact with astrology was Sailor Moon, and an old taurus t-shirt that my mother gave me. Lots of knowledge and heartwarming nostalgia in this video, thank you so much for sharing Christopher! ❤

Very interesting lore explanation!.. It was very nostalgic because I haven't watched this show since I was 10... I don't remember the series to have been censored in Spain.. It was memorable for all the wacky, queer and gender bending stuff in it . It was very refreshing in comparison to other cartoons. gay themes were portrayed in such a natural way.. even more in card captor Sakura

And then when sailor moon hit the states when i was a kid I watched it all. It did help me dive a little more into astrology since then.

This was the best overview of the Sailor Moon story and symbolism I've ever experienced. It replenished my fascination for the manga/anime and the astrological and Chinese/Japanese symbolism was especially well explained and combined together. I've never come across something that mixed them together so easily and I study astrology for quite a few years.
I wasnt all that interested when I saw the title but then Christopher started working his story telling magic.....love it!

My mom would talk about how she wanted Leo children ( my sister is 8/21, my due date was 8/17 - I was born 8/30 ) and one day on the boardwalk I put money into a game and it said to pick my sign and it would give me a fortune. I felt that it described me to a tea and from then when I’ve been obsessed, I was 10 years old. I absolutely love Sailor Moon and was crazy about it in high school and it still holds a special place in my heart. Ty so much! This is amazing.

This was such a treat! As a 90s kid watching Sailor Moon was like a religious experience for me 😂. I got my hands on the manga (they translated Usagi to Bunny 😅) and I just fell in love with Takeuchi's art. It truly captured my imagination and I love rereading it with the better translations. Stepping into your feminine power... True Moonies know!! As a Virgo ♍ I adored this analysis 💖.
