    I've subscribed because anyone who falls through a ceiling and still finishes off the original job deserves a subscriber

    Love the result. I hope your enjoying the final product!
    A few notes to level up your next reno:
    1) it's a 70s house, so test texture and old drywall tape seams for asbestos.
    2) Use strike plates to protect wires and pipes through studs and top/bottom plates.
    3) Prefill large drywall holes with hot mud. Way better than spray foam, and gives the back of tape something solid.

    I was watching a vid on rehab of a really old home. They found loose bricks stacked half way up the wall by the toilet behind wallboards. They asked around, it was soundproffing, to quiet toilet noise in next room!

    It looks fantastic, Dawson! VERY well done. The challenge of putting up that tile wall - I don’t know if I’d ever be brave enough to do that! I’m also so glad you didn’t fall all the way through to the kitchen floor! Bet that woke you right up! LOL
    Love your videos, and I’ve been missing them. Glad you’re still out there being a DIY inspiration.

    Good job! Just one thing. It is not recommended to use green board for the ceiling. It’s too heavy and will eventually sag. I learned this lesson myself

    Homie, if your house was built in the 70's, all that insulation that fell on your head when you took down the ceiling drywall most likely had asbestos in it...

    I didn't know Tony Hawk was a carpenter.

  • @lijpowww
    @lijpowww Місяць тому

    But why would you not add some isolation in the wall at that point? Even if it's just for sound control. Rockwool is cheap af.

    • @jamesbruno8583
      @jamesbruno8583 Місяць тому +1

      Don't know if I'd call it cheap. I just priced out mineral wool for an upcoming bathroom reno and it's going to cost $500 for all 60ish sq ft. The rockwool brand is >$70/bag, and even the cheaper R15 mineral wool is nearly $60 to fill a couple stud bays. I agree with the utility, but insulating is expensive. Behind finishings it's my priciest line item.

    I don’t understand how everyone is so amazed by this when he made his bathroom look 10x older than when he started I wouldn’t even have considered remodeling that bathroom yet until it was falling apart it looked like it had been renovated in the early 2000s since nothing about that bathroom says 70s to me
