Cannonkeys is bringing back the Chimera65 and I have the Prism SE version in house today. Its a throwback to a simpler time in keyboards and it still holds up as a solid release in 2023. Plus this thing is gorgeous.

Great video! I love the look of the Chimera, but the sound just isn't for me. It's too quiet for my tastes. Which just means there is one less person competing with the rest of you degenerates. lol GLE!
The aesthethic of this board is just next level. Been out of the hobby for a while but this one makes me kinda want to get it (if it didn't sold out in 30 secs ofc)
Oddly enough, R1 sold out rather slow. Like maybe more than a week? Was surprised, but once people got the board, then the hype really began
You've basically just reaffirmed everything I've already thought about this board and somehow made me want it even more. Those sound tests are incredible and even though the market has shifted so much over the years, its hard to argue that this board has remained atop the mountain of customs even today.

I'd love to see an alu or carbon fiber plate personally because I'm not huge on FR4, but I feel like fr4 plates have been one of CK's calling cards for years at this point. I love this classic sound profile though and it's good to see CK bring back one of the classic banger boards. Wouldn't mind seeing a Sat75 update now with better acoustics 👀

Very classy looking ⌨ keyboard 🥰💪🤩! Great sound and for me the quieter the better 😝🥳. Price is a bit high on the Special Edition, but for many it will be warranted. While I like custom keyboards, I feel the trend is getting waaaaay too long in the tooth.

Alexotos has a solid review for the Envoy and he just released another overview a few hours ago. Def. suggest checking those out. I know I'll be adding an Envoy to my quiver.
As far as Envoy vs. Chimera65... IMO you can't really compare the two. That's like comparing a Volkswagen to a Lamborghini. Chimera65 is a high-end enthusiast keyboard that will run you $450 for the standard addition. Keep in mind, that's without keycaps, stabs, & switches. The Mode Envoy on the other is very reasonably priced and for people who don't have deep pockets or just aren't willing to spend a half a grand but still want an affordable quality keyboard with some customization options. In Aussie Dollars.....My wallet cannot take it. So Im SAD I can't get this. But thats a fantastic board. It's soo old school but executed perfectly in todays standard. Love it. No Foams, just standard poron pieces to sandwich the plate and no flex cuts....AHHHHHHHHH

I own the R1 of this board. Would highly recommend Tealios switches or similar. I built the board with lubed and filmed Gateron Inks V2, L+F C3 Tangerines, and L+F Tealios V2 on FR4. The Inks sounded a tad too muted and Tangerines were a little one noted. But the Tealios is like the perfect middle ground of creaminess and character. Taeha has a build with Tealios in his Chimera prototype video

I don't really understand the price difference of the SE over the Standard or eWhite. The only actual difference is the PVD finishing, which honestly shouldn't justify the enormous jump in pricing. Most of the pricing should be in the CNC work and that's already captured in the Standard price point.
The SE will have a limited number of units, which means that there is no economy of scale to help decrease cost of goods. Additionally, high-end PVD finish has a high failure and scrap rate, which means the price will also increase here. Finally, the special editions use brass, while the standard editions use aluminum for the accent pieces.

If you read the chimera r2 page they specifically said they wanted to make a version that was light and easy to travel with. Hence the aluminum and no brass

As nice as this is, the badge in the top right belies the premium level of the board for me. It looks cartoonish and I can't justify another $250 dollars over a QK65 or Zoom65.
You should check out the Arc60, USD269 does not need any dampening at all and comes with two PCBs stock

I’m torn because they had an opportunity to make easy improvements - nix the out of place cannon logo, improve the gasket mount implementation, fix the 7u layout - and they didn’t do anything, but then again this is an iconic board and this affordable rerun true to the original is understandable.

The Sangeo65 is just a board like this that focuses on the fundamentals and sounds S tier. And it uses a universal PSB design which is HUGE for tinkering. Too bad I’m still too deep in the hobby to just “stop here”. There is no endgame in convinced

Guess thats why this is such a subjective hobby. This is one thats going in my personal collection.

This isn't directed at you badseed, but small rant. I'm 5 years into the customs hobby and I just don't care about using foams when I always think it sounds better. Even here where I do agree it sounds great foamless, I still like it better with foam.
I agree that boards above the $300 price point shouldn't require foam to sound decent, but I also just hate the sentiment that so many "purists" have that you're a noob if you like foam and pe foam.
I have 7 "high end" customs in my current collection and I run pe foam on 4 of them because I personally still love that thocky marbly sound.
Everyone pretty much universally loved that sound when the epoch came out - so what changed? People were mad that it was a piece of foam driving the sound and "it makes all keyboards sound the same" (not true btw - there's definitely enough nuance IRL where some boards hit different).
Again I'm not saying there is anything wrong with disliking foam, I just hate when people project their preferences onto others or speak like it's objective.

Elitists are just mad people found ways to make 150 dollar boards sound nicer than their hollow ass 600 dollar paperweights, that’s all. Even amongst reviewers you see them always derisively pointing out “budget” boards whilst showering praise on some, let’s be real, outdated expensive custom. At the end of the day alu is alu, you cannot magically escape the medium by using a pvd coated unicorn dust sprinkled badge or some shit.
I don’t think foams are inherently bad. Its just that the market is always moving. I know my own preferences have shifted. I just worry about boards with a price point that sound poor without the use of foam. I think thats totally forgivable on a QK or Meletrix board, not so much on a $400-500+ board
@@badseedtech I feel the same. I think it's completely valid that a high price point board shouldn't REQUIRE foam to sound decent. But I also hate when a high price point board like this uses it as an excuse to exclude foam in the base kit. I just think many gatekeepers in the hobby immediately go to foam = cheap/bad when it's ultimately about preference and there is absolutely nothing wrong with someone filling their chimera with case, plate, and pe foam and loving it. I like keyboard vendors that include it all and let the user tune to their liking.
