    I was out getting lunch after a job and saw these kids in the parking lot with their custom go carts and mini bikes ,maybe early junior high . They look like they spent some time on their rides ,some stuff looked like what you guys do . I asked them ,do you ever watch Cars and Cameras on UA-cam ? one replied we watch them all the time . You have fans in Gilbert Arizona . It is awesome that you reach these young kids in a very positive way . Kind of reminds me of myself in the 70s building mini bikes from 20 inch bike frames and lawn mower engines with no brakes going down steep hills .

    That's a neat old simple go-Kart kinda bike that looks really fun. I'd never seen a little bike like that before honestly. And been around. Rode a lot of bikes! But the bouncy tires and and short suspension make it look like a fun afternoon! And I mean I'm 51 and own a much more complicated bike. STILL! I'd love to play on that Knoby tire bike for an afternoon HAHA!!! It looks honestly FUN!

      I had to have a tinny metal splinter removed from my eyeball once ! Yes wear protection every time ! In about 1 or 2 sec. my eye just started flooding and wouldn't stop . took over a couple hours before they could set up to remove it and get me in. Believe me I NEVER want to do that again ! Rusty old muffler ruined my whole day LOL .

      What's worse is a bristle from a wire brush stabbing you in the eye. Sucks..

    • @davelowets
      @davelowets 3 роки тому +2

      @@kaptainkmann7808 Wait til that happens, and you finish a 12 hour shift with that metal splinter in your eye the entire time. After that long, it will begin to rust in your eye, and then that rust infused eye flesh WILL have to be GROUND out. The doc will use a mini grinder and bit similar to a dremel tool, and you'll get to directly watch as the spinning bit comes closer to your eye, makes contact, and then see the eyeball flesh go flying around as it's ground out. And it's fairly painful after the numbing drops wear off an hour later. Yea, so don't WAIT if you get metal in your eye that you can't remove yourself. Go in a.s.a.p.

    Ike, you have it backwards. You want to use the longer stones for honing the cylinders. That will help make sure you don’t cut a ring in the cylinder. The best would be stones that extend past the cylinder on the top and bottom. Just make sure you have the right grit stones for the rings you are using.

    Hi guys!!! Great Job educationally!!! I'm a ole timer almost done but want to drop you a tip... When cleaning parts for a rebuild you have to use Solvent type cleaners for the first pass, I agree... But there are many types of cleaners to achieve different cleaning methods... An example: A surfactant type cleaner is sticky (Great for letting dry and cleaning Carpets with a vacuum)
    The Solvent you used is great for dissolving resins including Carbons & Burnt Oils, but not great on Particulates like metal shavings or those nasty little chunks of materials stuck in between hard spots to reach with a brush... You still have to use everyday "Detergents", that are designed to lift and float particles away during the rinse process (After solvent use)... So, from now on it might help you make a better build if that step after using solvent, you wash it with a regular detergent directly afterwards, then when you rinse your removing both the residual solvent & Particles...
    But, you got every other detail absolutely correct and explained perfectly!!! I learned about different cleaning aspects in College earning 2 Degrees in Automotive Engineering and have found it to be of great value during my 45/50 years of Engineering Practice... GREAT VIDEO FOR NONDESTRUCTIVE FAILURE & ANALISIS , I'll show it in a future class someday!!! ;-) Keep up the good work guys!!!

    Great content guys, keep it up. I've heard some people commenting about the broken crankshaft as being made cheap Chinese material etc. But tbh I broke a few cranks on old Briggs and Tecumseh engines as well, it's a stock crank and they're very well made very stout engines, the stock crank was never meant to hold up to the added hp and torque of a modified engine.

    Shell Rotella,T4 has everything needed. That’s the only oil I use in the race engines that I build. Hi lift high compression excellent oil for brake in as well have never wiped a lobe of a cam.

    Remember that motovox minibike you guys had like 7 years ago? Well I got an engine from one and it wouldn’t run for the life of me. So I decided to completely tear it down and I found a break in crankshaft right where you found this one. Turns out it is a common problem on those 80cc engines.

    Great video to open and close the engine and get re done. I have an Suzuki RV90 with a homelite 196cc pressure washer conversion and a tillotson mechanical injection carb with torque converter. Made it the old fashioned way like you all. I think it's time for a performance kit and mikuni carb. Thanks again for the insipration.

    Hi guys! I love your videos! I just wanted to give you a little tip. Even though assembly lube on the piston rings will work, engine oil is much better for seating the rings during break-in. Keep up the good work!

    I did the same thing to small block LA 360. We stroked out to 421 in.³ it broke off at an angle just behind the last journal in our case. When I pulled it down, I found the problem we lost a weight on the fly wheel.

    I think for the million subs, it would be cool to go old school /throwback with a twist - make a go-kart using a 20 something hp v twin lawn mower engine, and do a horizontal - vertical shaft conversion. Kind of a use what you have project, but with the addition of being more hp than a small one cylinder, but something that needs some kind of interesting work to make it usable, rather than sticking with pulleys etc

    I always add zddp in all my small engines. Cheap insurance, I got a feeling you guys are going to start using it too....

  • @dandil
    @dandil 2 роки тому

    zddp is needed mostly on first oil used after a rebuild to help 'bed in' the cams, lifters and some people say rings into a honed bore. this is why proper rebuild oil has zddp additives in it (the one time the magic oil actually does something eh? ) also your hone job is sketchy xD you should turn it VERY slow and use a lot of in/out continuous motion; you're aiming for a 45 degree crosshatch. the tip about not stopping spinning while going out (or in!) is good. I've had best luck with the ball/brush style tools. honing shouldn't be used to clear up gouges anyway; honing eats up very little material, you want to bore for gouges.

    I think Shell Rotella T6 has a good amount of ZDDP. Although it's technically a diesel oil, it's a go-to oil for Subaru WRX/STI as well as sportbike guys. I use it in my STI and Tuono :)

    24:56 the best thing to do when you’re driving bearings and seals in is to use a bearing and seal driver. They make a kit pretty inexpensive. They have it at Harbor freight stops you from damaging the edge of the bearings or the seals admittedly, they’re not always needed but you did say if you’re going to do it. Yes to do it, right😂

    If you would get some UNI filter oil, and properly oil your filter, it would keep the dirt out of your engine much better. Also, with so much mud, I would recommend a UNI prefilter as well...

    The front end is getting squirrelly because of the taller rear shocks. You need to lift the front end to correct the suspension geometry.

      Yep, raising the rear changed the rake/trail angle of the front end.

    John can weld it back....and you can fix the rod with JB weld....Hey weld up some mega lift lobes on the cam and try it in a junker engine....
    Chem dip works great but kerosene works great for general small engine cleaning.
