    Clarity is KING! Skip to 4:20 to see exactly how to do this, again the rest of the video I think is (somewhat helpful) haha, but I am just trying to give information and share so you dont get frustrated later or at least understand the limit and what is going on here. I will HAVE a follow up video to this.
    Again, shout out to Ben and the MSFS VR FB community for always discovering new things!

      re-tested it, i would think that the cockpit might look abit sharper, but i really can't say yes or no. my water does not look like in your video :) at first the 200 wouldn't save, had to do it twice to make it stay. Wish there would be a bug which eliminates the CTD, that is really something they should care about.

    Wow, thanks. I'm stunning how this improved my VR experiance. I actually did play around with this settings before. But I stopped at 140/160 because the framerate was horrible. So I decided to stick at 80% which worked best for me. And now I'm at 200% Amazing.

    Beyond sorcery.... Even on a 3090 when I saw the FPS while in the menu drop from 65ish to mid 40s I was skeptical and giving my "high-end" GPU the side-eye. But IN GAME....Oooowie!! Better than I imagined!! IDK what is going on but I only hope it gets better implementation and isn't a bug in the matrix. Thanks for this!!

    As a guy who studied film, I can confirm that this totally makes sense that it would work.
    Videographers will tell you that even if your screen is limited to 1080p, 4k recordings will look better than 1080p recordings. I couldn't tell you why, but it's pretty common knowledge. So it follows that the same principals apply here: no matter what your screen resolution is, if the game is rendering at a higher resolution then it will look better.

    This works for me (thanks Ben and community), but only if I'm already in VR mode when I make the edit. If I try to enter VR with 200 already set the Oculus 'home' is full of artifacts and too laggy to use the controllers or mouse. Once in VR though, I can switch between the sim and the menus to my heart's content, making further little tweaks.
    If you've tried this before and given up because of the artifacts/lagginess, hopefully entering VR before editing will help you too. It's a minor inconvenience to keep switching between 100 and 200 every time you switch between VR and pancake, but absolutely worth the effort.
    I'm running a Ryzen 7 5800X and RTX 3080 with a Quest 2.

    • @theVRpilot
      @theVRpilot  3 роки тому

      I hear you and in theory sure, but it’s not a known thing as many people don’t run 1080p in higher res. Some do but on top of that, this is the equivalent of changing 2d trees and having a result in Vr. Something is off. Coding? Maybe?
      But I run MSFS in 4k on my desktop and run reverb g2 and it does nothing to my visual clarity.
      This is similair but trust me if anyone knew this months ago, it would have been discovered.
      Lucky and continuous tinkering found this one by Ben in my MSFS VR Facebook group.

    Bottom line: this absolutely works for stuttering. HOWEVER, no impact on clarity.
    My benchmark for the past 3 months was the Cub in the Yosemite bush trip.
    In the past I could see very visible stuttering in the cockpit. Especially on the bolts stuck on the yellow bar right in the middle of your field of view. The stutters are gone.

    Now for the next challenge: the instruments are still very blurry. e.g. I cant read the word 'airspeed' right in front of me on the speedometer.

    Hallo Jose, thank you very much for the tipp. I forgot to mentioned this at my last post regarding this performance tipp. I tried that yesterday with different settings, but I really don' have recognised a difference with ASW on. I got stutters with ASW ON and automatic.
    Then I tested it with ASW OFF and surprise there were no stutters anymore.
    May be that is imagination or not. I have had no stutters with ASW OFF. That is strange. I flown the H135 in the alps with 10m Alti3D mesh from Taburet + Habashi's Seasons. I can tell you there are a lot trees in that region. Normally that produces stutters, but strange ASW off = no stutters.
    🤣 may be it is placebo or not. I will put the slider to the right far far very far right. I feel better then. For security reasons only, you know🤣
    Take care

    First off, my specs: MSI GeForce RTX 3070 VENTUS 2X OC , i7-10700k and 32 GB RAM
    After a couple of hours testing and tweaking I have come to the conclusion that there IS a difference in clarity, AT LEAST within the cockpit. The difference isn't quite as obvious in the scenery. BUT what is the strangest to me is this fact: If you follow common logic, you'd think that lowering your VR settings would result in better FPS an hence, also a smoother and maybe even clearer image quality. But this is not the case at all for me. When I lower all my settings from ULTRA to MEDIUM and lower the OpenXR rendering scale to 70%, I experience crazy lagging, and FPS around 15-17. However, when I increase all my settings to ULTRA and increase the OpenXR rendering scale to 100%, I get a steady 30+ FPS without any lag whatsoever. Even low flying during sunset with scattered clouds gives me this result. It's so counter-intuitive it's crazy. LOL
    Anyone else experiencing the same ?

      You can already be in the sim flying and try it. That was the first time I did it and was shocked by the clarity.
      But don’t let that turn you off from it, try to get into VR and see if you benefit from this too.

  •  3 роки тому +3

    Hey thanks. There are a lot of bugs in this simulator.
    First of all my system is 3950x, 2070 super, 32GB, 1080p 60Hz screen and Oculus quest 2 working at 1.0x 72Hz.
    This hack works for me. It does not improve the frame rate at all and I still have terrible stutters but the clarity is amazing. It also does not have any negative impact on the FPS which I normally have (30-40fps low or ultra settings does not matter). It feels like another game. Moreover I have also tried to put the 2d render scale at 30% (yes sub VGA resolution) and it does the same trick! Funniest thing is when I return to 2d mode from VR my render resolution is still at least 1080P even when the setting shows 30%. I think this is also the case with 200%.
    But I have to say something. I have never been able to get 60fps in this game. Game is always limited by main thread it says. I tried low preset with 30% render scaling on 1080p! Still cpu bound. I know that this is a very complex simulation but guys hey I should be able to get 60fps somewhere.!
    I hope dx12 port of the game will clear all of those fundamental issues.

When I get some altitude the stuttering isn't as apparent but when I'm anywhere near the round it's like this drag/judder with everything else mostly pretty smooth. If you find anything please come back to this and let me know and likewise I'll do the same.

  • @Carlovfx
    @Carlovfx 3 роки тому +10

    Reason why this actually works at virtually no cost but not for everyone: FS2020 is strictly CPU bound, GPUs dont get stressed how they should be, increasing resolution makes the GPU work as intended with no cost more on calculation because the GPU was free, CPU and GPU are now working both "as intended" and one must not fall behind the other anymore in cycles.
    Basically in this specific case the GPU dont have to wait anymore for the CPU to complete its calculations.
    This means that you have a large window to increase your resolution which in VR translates directly in clarity.
    Does this work for all GPUs? Yes and no, depends on the difference between GPU and CPU.
    Everytime you have a game or simulation CPU bound you should make the GPU work harder.
    Everytime you have a game or simulation GPU bound you should make the CPU work harder.

      @theVRpilot it is on but for some reason msfs doesn't seem to think my Internet is fast enough to connect, so it doesn't allow any online features. Even tho it was fine on my gaming laptop before the pc build. And I can play COD Warzone online on my PC. Strange msfs won't connect. Thanks anyway lol

    " We are still trying to figure out how this works" = either it is turning something off or down. Usually its a placebo.

    WOW!! It WORKS! That is crazy, what a difference and no perceived FPS impact! Not sure what's going on but I hope Microsoft don't remove this bug! I reckon at least 50% improvement in clarity, can see for miles in the sim now woohoo!! :)

      @@theVRpilot Indeed! The mad thing is it actually runs better for me with the render scale set at 200. I wonder if this is some sort of future optimisation that has been left in by mistake? Combine this with the DirectX 12 update coming and it could be a total game changer for us on midrange systems! :)

    I *think* it worked for me, certainly seemed smooth but I can't say how much smoother. No sharper. i7 4770k 4.4Ghz GTX1080 Quest 2

      A few have found it some how smoother, but most see the shimmering go away from edges and increased sharpness.
      Thanks for the feedback!

    I’ve getting black screens when playing MSFS. Screens turn off but computer remains on. You have this issue with your 3090?

    • @theVRpilot
      @theVRpilot  3 роки тому

      Hey, so two things to try, Lower the overall volume going out of your PC that’s making it to your headset (weird I know) and also do you use a POWERED USB hub?
      I suggest you get one, make sure it’s usb 3.0
      Lmk how that issue with blacking out continues

    I'm on a 2080 super and reverb g2 and have my render scaling set to 80. So to be clear, you suggest turning PC render scaling up to 200 to see this improvement?

    • @theVRpilot
      @theVRpilot  3 роки тому +1

      Overall, that appears to be only change needed.
      Try to start MSFS, start flying VR and THEN make the change while in VR.
