wonder if there would be a day were they give Luna a proper archetype even if it means doing a retrain of pixie or fairy (Ancient Wise Fairy Dragon maybe?). that deck could focus on field spells. maybe having searchers for etiehr specific or generic field spells. make them fairy LIGHT type. ALso make most of them level 3 and 4.
michaelkeha as a ddd player, this usually doesn’t happen anymore turn 1 due to links. The only way we can get 38+siegfried+crystal wing is if we get needlefiber. Imo, needlefiber should never get printed cuz it becomes the turbo card for every deck basically
I like most Signer Dragons from an thematic aspect. Yusai: he is the shounen protagonist, a hero. So his dragons effect is protect everyone from harm even if it kills him. Jack: he is supposed to be a super goal oriented guy who will kick everyone down to preserve his position. So his dragon destroys everyone who tries to hide from him, even his own allies if needed. Akiza: she is afraid that her powers will destroy everything around her unwillingly. Black rose d is a field nuke and a manifestation of her fears. Neither Crows nor Luna’s make any sense to me. Leo isn’t a signer, despite wanting to be one, he is also a kid playing with his toys. His dragon isn’t a dragon and searches equips for him to play with.
I always liked this sort of symbolism with the card designs, as for the rest of Signers: Luna: She travels to the spirit world (the field-related effect), she summons the spirits and talks to them (the level 4 summoning from the hand), it's a stretch though. Crow: I heard Crow was supposed to be the main villain of the Dark Signers arc (but was changed due to his deck's popularity), all Dark Signers had something to do with revenge, that would've made a lot more sense with Black Wing Dragon's effect.

@@revthescatman137 To make a long story short, they had to do a lot of rewrites for 5Ds, a large part of which revolves around what I mentioned. It came to light that Carly’s VA was in a sex cult, so they drastically cut down her role in the story post-Dark Signers arc. It doesn’t help that Japan tends to be touchy to the subject of cults due to the Aum Shinrikyo terrorist attack. As for Crow, he was originally supposed to be a Dark Signer but because of how insanely popular Black Wings became with the player base they retooled his character into being a Signer.

@Drive Check. I see your point. To be honest, I like the lore too. It's just...the story could've been better. Characters could've been explored further. And all that potential just went to waste. I don't hate the other seasons, but they could have been more than what they actually were.
Even putting my soft spot for Aki aside, I love sneaking a Black Rose Dragon into the ED of any synchro decks I build capable of summoning it. While BRD shows its age a little, nobody in their right mind would call it a bad card, just format dependent at worst. Even with a decade and a half of power creep, there's no denying the utility of an on-summon Dark Hole/Heavy Storm value pack.
Believe it or not, they actually made Black Winged Dragon worth playing. Only as a combo piece that you cheat out basically for free, syncro it away, then banish it so you never have to see it again, but they did.
Fun fact - The original plan was for Crow to be the endboss of season 1 of 5D's and he would've used Earthbound Immortal Wiraqocha Rasca, but because of the character's immediate popularity (or more specifically his _deck's_ popularity) he was instead converted into one of the main protagonists and given a Signer Dragon, hence why Leo and Life Stream Dragon got cucked for two entire years.
That would have been stupid too. They already pulled the same dark signer childhood friend stuff with Callen. The Goodwin brothers were good as the final villains of season 1.
@@Kerim9991 Presumably Crow would've had a different backstory if he got to be the end-boss, since it would've been an entire overlap with Kalin. Apparently the intended character that Crow replaced in the Signer lineup was gonna be from Greiger's hometown (I have no idea if Leo took his dragon or not), so I can sorta see the intended 'version 1.0' arc for the show: season 1 sets the scene with Rex as a suspicious supporting character that you don't really trust as he is for most of season 1, but the Dark Signers open up as the more immediate foe, with Roman providing a lot of backstory for Rex. Then season two is a more direct 'the Signers versus the government' with Rex as a long-term antagonist, as opposed to the 'surprise final boss' vibe he has in the actual anime.
@@EinDose From what I've heard, he was supposed to be some sort of rogue, always trying to steal Yusei's Duel Runner. How that would've gotten him killed is beyond me, though.
This video made me realise that the YuGiOh protagonists (And to a lesser extent, the signer dragons) Ace/signature monsters should be useful and versatile that almost any deck that can run it (which should be most decks) should have it as a viable option, but also be unique so it's not generic and dull, whilst also have an archetype around it (or a close like Yusei's synchro deck). Like, Stardust and Utopia are so versatile that most decks would run them, or at least consider them, but at the same time, they can have decks built around them and go full on with being a boss in their own right.
With the introduction of them, with Stardust, RDA and Junk Warrior, I honestly thought that general-purpose facility would be a hallmark of the Signer Dragons. Then OG Goyo Guardian came out. And I was sad.
Little of an easter egg on Scarlight for the anime fans Red Dragon Archfiend in the final battle of Yusei and Jack tried to stop Junk warrior's attack with it's right hand. This eludes to how Scarlight (Right 😉)Red Dragon Archfiend lost to Junk warrior and was scarred.
@ULGROTHA I don't think it has anything to do with their background in Arc-v. I think it is just a reference to the final battle of Yusei and Jack in the 5d's series. You no for the people that have been here since then. 😉
Interesting note jack used hot Red dragon archfiend's effect along with a spell card to destroy kalin kessler's monsters that were in the graveyard, no seriously the spell card let him switch his monster's effect from affecting the field to affecting the graveyard
The thing with there being six signers makes sense. The five signers have always battled evil because history keeps repeating itself. If the good side got more firepower it could BTFO the evil that much harder. Six signers means the light overpowers the darkness, and breaks the repeating cycle of good vs evil.

It's not totally useless since I think it is still the only generic extra deck monster card that can block burn damage. everything else is either only prevents one turn of damage, or is locked to an archtype. Its wierd because they could have added more self burn effects to blackwings so that it fit better, they certainly made enough junk blackwings anyway.
That Whale Earthbound Immortal seemed most out of place in that series. Just make a good version of it and switch it with Blackwinged Dragon. Boom, I guess that's basically the "White Aura" series of cards.
My least favorite part about it is it's named Black Winged Dragon and not Blackwing Dragon so not only is it very bad but the only thing connecting it to Blackwings is Auster of the south wind which is debatably better support for the armor masters
it seems that Blackwing are supposed to be antagonist deck which is why the actual deck itself is pretty good, rivaling resonator and synchron, but when they change their mind and decided that Blackwing should be the protagonist's friend deck, things started to go downhill because protagonist friends usually lose first before the protagonist save them by battling the one who beat them which is why they put the worst signer dragon for Crow, the design philosophy behind it is just to make crow lost alot so Yusei can shine.

Honestly, Yusei gets the lions share of legacy support on the simple fact he’s the main protagonist. His deck was also in constant flux because of his past in the satellite needing to be as adaptive as possible.
I think they were considering making "Red Dragon Archfiend" a proper Archetype, but the fact that some of the support only works with the OG card (much like the dumb "Ancient Gear" effect, the card not the archetype) makes the entire idea pretty pointless. Other times we got Monarch-esque restrictions like "DARK Dragon Synchro". smh.
This is a good format for talking about related cards not necessarily capable of being used all at once. Could Earthbound Immortals be next? I imagine the video wouldn't take nearly as long to make since they've got maybe half a dozen support cards and only seven monsters.

Like how you wrapped up each segment here. Made me almost think I was watching multiple archives in one sitting. Would have liked a little more detail on each dragon’s support, but that’d result in an hour or so long video, so I understand just quickly summing that up to a general overview. Pair that up with your style of humor, no ruling or visual errors, and the lack of a certain obnoxious boogerman, and I can safely say this is just one dang well done video. Nice job!
Also, that Signer dragon isnt even a Blackwing Monster. "-winged". Pretty much an outlier with its boss monster not about evolving like the other two but entirely different design.
Black Rose Moonlight Dragon's name should've stayed as Moonlight Rose dragon (I think it was changed before being physically released). Black Rose Moonlight is a mouthful, and letting it have the effect of "This card is always treated as Black Rose Dragon" combined with the name Moonlight Rose, gives a sort of nod and representation to Akiza's change from tormented psychic girl who thinks the world hates her, to, calm, loving, has close friends and a lover (Yusei x Akiza is canon, FIGHT ME!) and the less destructive effect is a nod to her chaotic and destructive psychic powers having gone by the end of the series.
One of the Endings of the Sub has Yusei and Aki holding each other. Off all the things 5D’s hit absolutely right (Villains, Duels, story arcs even if some were propped up and left hanging.) Character relationships, both of the romantic ones and the rest that weren’t, usually are natural and amazing. Yusei X Aki is something the show hints at A LOT. It’s sweet ngl

@ULGROTHA Facing Shun was ok, but that should've been the end of him. Arc-V's 3rd season was the worst season in any Yugioh for me which is a shame because I liked Arc-V's first half quite a lot.
To be fair, the comments about the original Red Dragon Archfiend and Black-winged dragon didn't age well either thanks to the new RDA Structure deck making the original RDA the 2nd best Level 8 RDA monster in a RDA deck, and how modern Blackwings support made Black-winged dragon a good combo piece and a free upgrade to an even better Synchro dragon if you play the deck right.
@@V-Jes But its not the same. Calamity didnt get any new support to get good, people just figured out, hey lets cheeze by turboing it out on the opponents turn, Calamity just didnt have any generic ways of doing that until recent times, but it was always good if you can pull it off, especially if you dont have to jump through that many hoops and make it a "summon him or lose" style fo gameplay (which modern decks can) while Black winged dragon took like 10 different uspport cards, 2 of which were specifically designed to make it viable and its still not a good card, its just key card for a combo because they made it that way (coming from a BW fan, I love the cards design but it is just bad) same goes with original RDA, its not the card that it is good, its just like you said, he is the 2nd best RDA lvl8 (not even the best so its just sad)
Still is to this day; the card enables a horrible abuse of Arma Knight because Phoenix Blade banishes it from the GY so DDR can fetch it back. You can trigger the effect of that card easily three times in a turn.
I honestly wouldn't be shocked if Power Tool Dragon got banned on a future banlist because of that. Rendering Life Stream Dragon another unsummonable monster in its own archetype like Dark Requiem XYZ Dragon.
@@bunnyboyking5215 but life stream can be summoned in one turn in its own archetype lmao Let me explain: Special summon Morphtronic smartfon (lvl1 tuner), search scopen, use scopen to special summon any lvl4 morphtronic go into power tool dragon with scopen+lvl4 and than power tool into life stream with smartfon...

I always liked this sort of symbolism with the card designs, as for the rest of Signers:
Luna: She travels to the spirit world (the field-related effect), she summons the spirits and talks to them (the level 4 summoning from the hand), it's a stretch though.
Crow: I heard Crow was supposed to be the main villain of the Dark Signers arc (but was changed due to his deck's popularity), all Dark Signers had something to do with revenge, that would've made a lot more sense with Black Wing Dragon's effect.
*actually crow isnt a signer because he wasnt actually planned to be one*
so Akiza = scarlet witch
Blackwinged Dragon is related to Blackwings, and Konami wants you to buy Blackwings, which is also the reason why Crow became a signer.
Wait Leo was planned to be a singer Crow was the one who was made one mid way through.

JackXCarly was the best ship in the franchise and the writers are a bunch of cowards for not following it through.
I hear you. They were the best thing that came out of 5Ds and it was wasted because thd writers couldn't go through with it!
The worst thing is that they did follow it in the dark signers arc. But they had to drop it because her voice actress was in a cult.
@@lyncario5515 That didn't excuse them for wasting Carly and Jack's characters, considering they had a solid fanbase and viewers WANTED to hear more from them. Besides, I don't think people would actually care about the cult thing if the story was good.
@Drive Check. I can see what you mean. It just sucks we had a really good story taken away from us and replaced with...that lackluster season.
@Drive Check. I see your point. To be honest, I like the lore too. It's just...the story could've been better. Characters could've been explored further. And all that potential just went to waste. I don't hate the other seasons, but they could have been more than what they actually were.

This was a nice change of pace, and definitely still an enjoyable watch.
I just wanna see the “HERO” archetype vid- I mean movie
Even putting my soft spot for Aki aside, I love sneaking a Black Rose Dragon into the ED of any synchro decks I build capable of summoning it. While BRD shows its age a little, nobody in their right mind would call it a bad card, just format dependent at worst. Even with a decade and a half of power creep, there's no denying the utility of an on-summon Dark Hole/Heavy Storm value pack.
I guess you could use Tyrant RDA to negate Evenly Matched. That's a little neat.
Well hello kut-ku
Because there's no other monster that could evenly match Tyrant RDA

The games fleshed out the twins more. I liked Leo and Luna in Tag Force 5
@@Kerim9991 kallen. Kiryu in the dub
With how much it tied into beasts and fairy tales, they should have given Luna the Mystical beast of the forest archetype.
“If I talk shit about your favorite signer, be sure to keep in mine it was absolutely on purpose”
I approve

Worst case scenario, they can just hire a DIFFERENT voice actor.
The thing with there being six signers makes sense. The five signers have always battled evil because history keeps repeating itself. If the good side got more firepower it could BTFO the evil that much harder. Six signers means the light overpowers the darkness, and breaks the repeating cycle of good vs evil.

i will always hate black winged dragon...its sooo out of place, ugly, has a horrible effect , replaced blackwing armor master as crow's ac, a monster that is legit amazing, and is freaking dark attribute instead of water (the only attribute that a signer dragon doesnt have yet, beside divine)
Still preferred Crow as a rival, least the manga covered that.

I think they were considering making "Red Dragon Archfiend" a proper Archetype, but the fact that some of the support only works with the OG card (much like the dumb "Ancient Gear" effect, the card not the archetype) makes the entire idea pretty pointless.

The comments about RDA calamity have not aged well
Literally came back to this video to see if anyone has written comment like this 😅
To be fair, the comments about the original Red Dragon Archfiend and Black-winged dragon didn't age well either thanks to the new RDA Structure deck making the original RDA the 2nd best Level 8 RDA monster in a RDA deck, and how modern Blackwings support made Black-winged dragon a good combo piece and a free upgrade to an even better Synchro dragon if you play the deck right.
@@V-Jes But its not the same. Calamity didnt get any new support to get good, people just figured out, hey lets cheeze by turboing it out on the opponents turn, Calamity just didnt have any generic ways of doing that until recent times, but it was always good if you can pull it off, especially if you dont have to jump through that many hoops and make it a "summon him or lose" style fo gameplay (which modern decks can)
while Black winged dragon took like 10 different uspport cards, 2 of which were specifically designed to make it viable
and its still not a good card, its just key card for a combo because they made it that way (coming from a BW fan, I love the cards design but it is just bad)
same goes with original RDA, its not the card that it is good, its just like you said, he is the 2nd best RDA lvl8 (not even the best so its just sad)
Wasn't power tool used in dark warrior and other stuff because it was abuseable with destrudo after fairy dragon? Isn't that something to talk about?
Still is to this day; the card enables a horrible abuse of Arma Knight because Phoenix Blade banishes it from the GY so DDR can fetch it back. You can trigger the effect of that card easily three times in a turn.
I honestly wouldn't be shocked if Power Tool Dragon got banned on a future banlist because of that. Rendering Life Stream Dragon another unsummonable monster in its own archetype like Dark Requiem XYZ Dragon.
