3 weeks ago we bought a new 2022 carbon edition poly metal grey with blacked out 20inch wheels. Not sure about the other trims but there are 4 ways to open the back gate. You can stick your foot under the rear bumper and step back and it'll open, you can push the button where the license plate is at or you can push the button to the left of the steering wheel or you can use the key fob. We will likely never use the 3rd row seats and just keep them folded down. It's the smoothest riding vehicle we've ever owned. We're both retired and dont drive much but will be going on a couple of long distance trips a year. We currently only have 105 miles on it, it had about 10 miles on it when we bought it. I feel like I'm driving an expensive luxury SUV. Sticker was $45K and some change but they did give us the $500 customer loyalty discount as our daughter has a 2017 mazda3 they also gave us a $500 military discount as I'm a veteran so we paid $44K and some change. We were looking at and test drove the Kia Telluride but they didn't have any to buy and it's my understanding they are charging more then $10K over invoice. We also test drove the top trim level in the Hyundai Santa fe and a Tucson but they didn't feel as luxurious as the CX-9 and Hyundai is charging $3,500 over invoice. To my knowledge Mazda is the only manufacturer selling at invoice. I feeling like we walked away with a better vehicle for less. I feel like if you're paying over invoice your not getting anymore value for your money, your just paying more for the vehicle. At some point when the madness stops those who paid over invoice are gonna wind up being stuck in their vehicles or they are gonna leave it on the side of the road with the keys in it and walk away. When we travel long distance I like to do the majority of driving at night so the interior ambient lighting is important for us.
This vehicle has aged gracefully. My 2019 Signature still looks and feels new. The pre-refresh Telluride is my favorite, too, in this category. However, dealer mark-ups and the fact that it didn’t perform well in the IIHS’s new side impact test, especially considering it’s a family vehicle, make it less attractive to me. Thanks for the review, Kevin!
Oh wow I definitely need to look into that side crash test for the telluride because yes IIHS updated their test however the CX-9 still did great so I find Mazda safety to be super impressive you made a great choice my friend
Pretty fair and objective review. I look forward to your review of the all-new Mazda CX-90 that will be replacing this current CX-9 model in early 2023. It should be larger and better than the Telluride that everyone keeps comparing against this model.
I bought the cx9 last week so happy with it any bigger would be a pain in the ass in my city for parking and getting around shopping centres not to mention 20k more for base model cx90
Kevin, you would be surprised at the number of people who think that switching to eco mode will improve mileage, all the while they are gunning it right before the light turns red. Great review!
I own a CX-9, 2019. It delivers very nice power were you need it. Definitely not lacking in acceleration. I love this car and it's reliability. All Japanese made!
Excellent review! Love the explanation of all the trim levels, which is very helpful. Also, I appreciate your discussion of the difference in tire size and how it affects the ride. Thank you also for talking about the IIHS safety. I just purchased a certified preowned 2019 CX-9 touring w/ premium package and so far am extremely happy. Stealth wealth, no "douche-baggery!" LOL
Hondas handle better than Mazdas? Ummm said no one ever. My wife's 2022 CRV floats like a boat and handles bad. Looking to go back to Mazda since selling my 2018 cx5. I've really wanted a cx9 great review. Wishful thinking the price drops next year with the cx90 coming out
Yeah I just got a 2018 CX-9 GT to use for Uber XL for lil over 21k. So far so good. I want to put those Falken trail tires on. They look so good on the CX-50 meridian!
For some reason, the SD card for the GPS is optional and costs $400 from Mazda. But you can get it from Amazon for $50, which is what I did for my Carbon edition.
I think that's the dealerships trying to get more money. I pointed out to my dealership that Navigation is listed as standard and they gave me the SD card for "free".
If I had a big family and needed a 3rd row this would definitely be my pick. I test drove one once and also noticed that the cockpit was small for the driver. It actually felt a bit smaller than the CX-5 possibly due to that big center console / shifter area.
As ironic as it is, same issue with the Mazda 3. I was also having a discussion with another customer at a Mazda dealer and he went for a CX-5 because CX30 (Mazda 3 crossover) have narrow seats due to the large center console.
Have a 2019 cx9 signature that I was able to snag for 41k new, love the vehicle. Mazda has great quality fit and finish. Gas mileage has been very solid for me average around ~23mpg and able to hit 27-28 on trips if you have a light foot on the highway. Oem brakes aged like trash though! Replaced all 4 corners pads and rotors. Great review.
Congrats everyone on your CX-9s! They are great vehicles and yes brakes are an easy fix so that wasn’t a big complaint for me. Enjoy your rides my friends
I got 2022 signature 2 months ago. The gas mileage I'm having around 18mph. Even if I drive in highway, I barely get 20mph. Wondering, why so low mileage for my car comparing to other CX-9.
this is the biggest Mazda with a high price for a Mazda but i find that the Mazda 3 and Mazda CX - 30 has a nicer interior and they are small bace modell cars. Thank you Kevin for the review.
I still have my base model 2011 Cx9 with 120k on it. I bought it new and it still looks and drives new. I'll probably get it some new tires this fall. L O V E this car.
Cool review put in layman's perspective. Is its size a detriment as a daily driver ? and if you have taken it on a road trip( 5hrs+ ), how's the driver's comfort level and confidence long distance ?
So driving wise pretty easy but due to the overall length being 200” long, fitting this vehicle in a garage might be difficult and yes the comfort of the seats were great I didn’t quite go 5 hours I went around 3 hours in one sitting with this and I thought it was good
Doesn't the signature trim have those really nice captain seats in the back with the really nice arm rest and the really nice light accent near the bottom of the face grill? Its the trim I really wanted for long trips with family members, but that sticker price is so expensive. If I pay over 51k for the trim, I rather buy a Audi A5 sportsback instead, for the base price of 44k. Maybe if Mazda bring those captain seats to the lesser trims, I would consider it....maybe.
Hi Kevin, I love you're videos, I go through 3 a day sometimes. I even re-watch old ones too because you talk about realistic concerns most people would look for in a vehicle. Love how you go in deep details about vehicles suspension. Too me, that is a big concern, because too many streets now are being neglected and the pot holes and as you say, garbage roads are getting worse. I was wondering if you could do a review on a 22 Acura RDX ADVANCE CROSS OVER. YOU'RE REVIEW ON THAT WOULD BE SOMETHING I WOULD BE LOOKING FORWARD TOO. THANKS MAN!!
I’m so honored Ronald! I’m glad the content is valuable to you, I would love to review a new RD X for you my friend however my access to Acura products is terrible 😅 but who knows, maybe eventually I can try one out. Thanks again for your continued support!
Wish I could get a rx at cx price lol. This thing truly is fun to drive. I think it’s a great value for what you get but I’m just in love with the rx, 3rd Gen specifically!

They don't show individual Tire Pressure numbers if that's what you're referring to. Light just pops up to let you know one of the tires is low.

You just pull up, stick the pump in & select premium & fill her up! ⛽️
Is this a direct injection only motor or does it also have port injection.
Direct only.
