INSANE Living Room Remodel The Week Of My Wedding!
Вставка
- Опубліковано 12 лис 2019
- In this video, we wrap up the remodel of my first floor. We push it to the edge to see if i can get done before my wedding week. I install a load-bearing beam across the one wall and another faux vintage barn wood beam on the other.

"not working in the dark on the floor on my knees..." hey man, whatever pays the bills.
That sure as hell doesnt. hahaha
I too have an Uncle Stan, everyone should. My daughter calls him Uncle Stand. Glad we had this talk.
She should call him gruncle Stan (like in gravity falls)
I too have an uncle Stan, as we all should
I really really REALLY love the stair case as it it... It is the heart of the house.. one of the most historical feature of the house... i would say don,t touch it!! since you've opened the wall.. it's not in the way anymore!! Please let it be!!!
I dunno my friend. i pretty much hate it with all my heart hahahah
@@John_Malecki That's okay... My dream is to build a victorian house with THE Staircase!! But oh well it's yours... you do you! Anyway I agree that opening those walls makes it a way better space!
@@John_Malecki - then why in the hell didn't you buy a 1970s box house and make it look as bland as your remodel does?
M J such a hater lol, it’s his house. chill
I would straighten out the staircase and then depending on the look you could add some hidden storage underneath.
Spenser Olson any kind of storage is always a plus!
Harry Potter "under the stairs"
Yes because moving the front door is a cost effective idea.
Do the staircase because that’s the next project we’re tackling!
Hahhaaha lets see how soon i can get it on the docket
Congratulations on your house not falling down.
Oh, and getting marriage.
Hey dude you rock your energy is contagious
Thank you my friend!
Leave the staircase, but remove the carpet and refinish it. Then do something with that awful looking closet behind the front door.
Ya that closet needs turned into a fire QUICK!
@@John_Malecki the front door itself bothered me more than the closet. Did it come off a tiny trailer?
👊🏼👊🏼 Because you can can can. Love the old barn beam. What about taking out the hand rail at the bottom of the staircase and do like corner steps so you can go up the staircase at a few different angles of approach???
Make the staircase straight out!
Great job by the way!
Such a good job that the Misses wants to redo some of our house now.
hell ya !
Lol!! Freedom dance was hysterical! Great video and it would be great to see the stairs redone with hard flooring to match your new floors! Maybe square the corners pieces on the bottom steps??
Wood railing with rebar from balustrade to balustrade. Remove the closet, and build a coat rack/shoe rack, bring the stairs straight down. You did a great job on the remodel. :)
No rebar. too gritty. but not a bad idea with the rest!
No comment except,,You go man, rock it as only Malecki can do! congrats to you and mama bear on your wedding and life is looking good!
9:27 "Yeah, look at that" - haha, naughty boy
hahah i mean the knee pads..... gosh
Was thinking the same thing lmao
John you and Sam are hilarious! Now you got your uncle in on the act. Great job guys.💯💯💯
The House looks FANTASTIC! Congratulations on you and Sara's wedding this weekend!💯💯🌞🌞💒💒💎💎
👍🏻👍🏻 CONGRATULATIONS ! Have A Wonderful Wedding ! 💖💖💖💖💖 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Wow dude, great job! You're nuts!
I've enjoyed this series and man does that LR look WAY better man. So cheers on that.
Regarding the stairs... I'd make them go straight down but keep a rustic look like you have that exposed beam cover, but then add in some more industrial railing and/or guardrail sort of thing.
I dig the input chuck! Glad you liked the series!
I've been waiting to see this!! I saw the notification this afternoon and could not wait to watch. Did NOT disappoint! You guys worked so hard. Open space in an older home is something special. Enjoy the lack of walls! 😆 & congrats on wedding!
Thank you Cassie!!! so glad you enjoyed it
Hoping they post a video of their wedding 🤞🏻
Maybe, we did hire a killer videographer!
Love the stair turn. Keep it.
I love the staircase how it is! maybe paint it white to match the rest of the house?
Good luck with the wedding, the house looks amazing
Staircase: make it come out straight instead of curved like it is now. Also industrial is a good look 👍🏻
I agree!
Yes!
It's not an industrial house. He's already removed most of the character the house had and it will look dated in 5 years.
looks good if you live in 2010
M J , message me in 5 years.... see how dated my house looks...
Wow! Stunning!
Thank you!
Great job John and Sam.... Also congrats on the wedding day, I hope you and Sara have a great and wonderful day.....
have a nice wedding weekend and after that, you can do whatever you wanna do with your staircase, it will be a cool video for sure! greetings from Germany.
thank you Patrick!!!
Congrats Big guy
Thank you Aaron !
I love this series. Everything about the vibe and personality in these videos have been great so far.
I hope you redo the stairs/entryway too! The closet and front door would like an upgrade :P
The floors are squeeking because they were nailed. Gotta screw them. Get a pam driver. They are one of my favorite tools. That festool domino is a real game changer. Nice work
Nice that you completed the remodel before the big day, congratulations on the wedding, now enjoy the fruits of your labor.
Looks much better, good move!
Holy crap, it worked! One in a row big fella!
Looks amazing, the Front Hall closet could use an update to finish the room off. I wouldn’t replace the staircase case. Just some paint on the risers and sand and stain the treads to match your floor.
My vote for the stair's. Straight down is good, or if you don't want to loose the closet keep the landing, but wooden treads with a carpet runner system and welded iron wrought railing.
Leave the stairs as is! They add character!
i stumbled across your channel and i was amazed at your work and attitude, i was laughing and enjoying every minute. cant wait to see more of your videos. Good Job Bud, Congratulations on getting married. God Bless
Very nice job. Crazy to be doing this the week you are getting married. No pressure!!!! But, you did it.
Best wishes you and Sarah.
John great job I know your glad it’s done. Now comes the most important job you will ever undertake. This job is a constant building and remodel ,give and take on your part. Marriage. Lol. When making any decision from now on always check with your better half first. We as men have only four words to say from now on Yes Ma’am and I’m sorry. Lol. On a serious note though I hope you and your bride will have a great wedding. ( what the hell am I saying here !!! RUN JOHN RUN .
hahah Great advice Tyrone, appreciate it and glad you enjoyed !!
You are so talented.
You are one of my new favorite channels!
Freedom Dance for the win :)
Excellent project 👏🏻👏🏻 regards from 🇨🇱
John, it looks GREAT! Nice job too, working “efficiently”! 😎
Thanks Jim!
Another awesome renovation great work man!
John at the end with the Patete stance coffee cup in hand.
Wow. Amazing!! Love you john!😊
The flooooooors. They would've looked so beautiful sanded and stained!!
Remove the closet by the door, change the front door, change the chandelier to a different one, remove the carpet on the stairs, and get rid of the Bolton of the stairs to make the space look bigger. Maybe see in changing the color of the rails. Dark wood and colors make a room look smaller.
I think if you brought the staircase straight out it would obscrue the closet, or whatever that brown door is next to the front door, and I think the staircase having the turn also kind of divides the space. So maybe in the future you could have an entry way bench and it wouldn't feel crowded.
the closet is going to get ripped out too!
Hey John (and Sam!), just a thought in case someone else hasn't posted this tip yet. You can always rent screw jacks to help "Lift" walls and joists enough that you don't have to pound the beams into place so much. I've used them a couple times on my 1926 home in Seattle (old straight grain fir "real" 2x4's and 2x6's in the walls with lathe and plaster everywhere.) For temp walls, it's usually easier to use 2 screw jacks on either end of a couple 2x8 or 2x10's to "raise" the joists a couple inches that allow you to slip the new beams in pretty easily (or at leas more easily). Rookie/Pro Tip. for your future projects.
I wouldn't get rid of the staircase at all. Leave some of the original charm of the house.
Nice job and like the direction of the new videos.
You should do the staircase straight down
Dude awesome work! You're an inspiration and entertaining. Super happy UA-cam suggested this channel.
Thank you Emperor !!!
You said you wanted to finish this by the end of the day before you lose your sanity?
I still say your nuts to do this right before your wedding but hey at least you got this done.
Question though. How many fireplaces in the house?
It turned out lovely. I'd leave the staircase just like it is but maybe strip it and restain to match the floor.
Theyre not oak so they couldn't match the floor, but potentially i could make oak treads to match!
That's what we're planning on doing for our stairs as well. Under the carpet we found cracked 2x12 treads that actually didn't completely fit the width of the stairs.
The floors are beautiful! 😍
Congratulations for your wedding
I just find your channel
Awesome job man. Great work
If you guys do replace the front door, you should get rid of the glass above and have a taller door. I feel it would make the ceiling feel higher and maybe even make the entrance look more spacious than it is. :)
Very cool! Looks awesome! I would make the stair landing a big square instead of round, then either weld a giant railing or use black pipe to match your shelves on each side of your tv 🤙🏻
For sure going to do some black railings i think !
well done
Thanks Aloosh!
beautiful!
John... that beam was full of woodworm holes... Is your house full of woodworm now? Excellent fun loved every second of this video.
That looks amazing !!! Great job!!! Good luck on the wedding!!!
I love those stairs. Beautiful craftsman style. Carpet could definitely go, though.
Did the same thing except with construction screws to secure the subfloor to the 2x framing. Worked pretty well.
Yea that will help witht he creaks for sure!
Good job!!! 👍👍👍👍⛰🦅
It turned out so good!! Well fucking done!
Dude you freedom danced under your work, not safe, not safe. Lol
Where else would i freedom dance?!??!?!
Great job Johnny. I've been following this on IG its awesome.
like the stair case and congrats on your wedding
Good job 👍 I want some direct, straight stairs for a nice look. Hope y'all do this
Congratulations on your wedding! Your remodel has made some great video content. Now you just need to build some custom furniture for your house.
Love the openness and floors are great! (I have the same flooring...good taste). Happy wedding!
I’m torn on the staircase. That has some character which is harder to find these days. If you did modernize it, I’d expect some metal railing. I’d keep the turn at the end otherwise you end up walking into the front closet
the closet will go if we remove the turn. its going to go regardless actually haha
John Malecki oh well that changes things, lol
For what it’s worth, I’ve owned two houses now without a closet by the front door and it doesn’t seem that bad at first, but it gets old fast. Obviously a personal opinion but I’d say to keep it. Clean appearance storage and easy accessibility when you first come in.
You could do one of those open “locker” type you see in mud rooms.
Either way looking forward to seeing the next step
Anyone who would cover up those original floors doesn't care about character, no matter how much he defends himself by bad-mouthing people who appreciate the character of these old homes. I'd lay you odds that if/when he sells this house, the next owners will rip out those "new" floors and re-finish the original ones.
@@maggiesue4825 as it's been mentioned before, the floors are made of douglas fir wood which gets scratched up and dents extremely easily and will show wear almost instantly after you refinish it.
Such a difference in flow now. Great job! Remove closet, make staircase straight, modern or industrial. I do love the stairs the way they are, however it just takes up too much space in the foyer.
I agree Debby, they need to go on a diet at a minimum, i think a metal railing would help it feel as open as it actually is now !
Great job I would leave the stairs as is. Alot of work for not alot of space. 👍
Congratulations on the wedding plans! After you are done with your house, stop over in Dormont to do mine!
The house is looking good John! 😃👌🏻👍🏻👊🏻
Thanks Fred!
an awesome freaking job!!
Thanks April!
I like the turn with the stairs, but I don't like the weird fence and the slight gap between it and the wall next to it
We used a similar beam when we finished our basement. It adds a lot to the space
Yea it really does!
Going to look nice dude
For your stairway, I would remove the wood balusters and replace them with clear acrylic panels, while still using the existing handrail and posts. If you did not paint the barn beam, stain it translucent gray (because it looks like you painted the walls light gray), unless it’s already grayish from age. Refresh the stairway posts and railing with a gray stain to match the barn beam. I wouldn’t straighten the stairway, because it’s a striking design, as is. I would remove the entry closet, and opt for some modern coat hooks there instead, which will open the entry, giving the stairway grandness. Congratulations on your wedding!
*how did I find myself here*
*slowly falling into a pit of disparity*

*I know not but the, house remodel*
*I depress from the lack of sleep*
*Caused by the addictive videos*
I think you should straighten out the staircase so the first thing you see when you walk in isn’t that chunk of railing. It’s a clean eyes view up the stairs. As for aesthetics I think continuing the same vibe as the wood floors you put down in the living room up the stairs would be a nice flow AND with a black metal railing it would tie in the black metal insert you made and put in the fireplace.
A lot more room for activities:)
Also that painting near the end goes right into the AMSR bank haha
How about that Steelers/Browns game? Crazy
Perfect work bro. good luck for the reste 👌👌👍👍👍🇲🇦🇲🇦🇲🇦🇲🇦
Saw this within the first 30 min it was posted
Looks awesome man. Greadings from germany 😄 🇩🇪
Congratulations on the wedding and finishing the remodel! I would take out at least the top level of the landing and the newel post and railing by the closet. Make the landing accessible from the front or side. Industrial is a good look, but not sure if that would work with your decor. Let's be honest, that's up to the WIFE!
O ya we freedom dance
Congratulations and welcome to the institution of marriage.
Thanks Len !
love this dude
Thanks Miguel !
TRUE: snails always get there to 😁
