Ok, I own a base Panigale V4 .On some of the points that you have I agree with others I do not. The heat is barely bearable in jeans and I live in socal, I look at it this way it keeps the squids that wear shorts while riding off of it. The touring part, I didn't buy it for touring...period! As for the track, oh god I've never had so much fun!! The electronics the handling and the power, oh the power! The back of my arms were sore the next day because of the pull of this bike! The satisfaction after riding this bike on the track was like I imagine having an orgy with super models but better because I get to do it again and again. As far as being able to afford it, you only live once. Ciao.
rchurricane haha i have 1299 and just bought v4 couple months ago did track days with 1299 just like u say orgy hahha cant wait to do track day with both of them next summer and so far just riden v4 around is awesome wouldent trade it for nothen lol
@@Freakyfetus I haven't rode the 1299 but I did have a 1098 and theres no comparison. What I remember most at the track is going woh and laughing at the same time, it's such a blast! Traction control is epic! In sport mode you won't even know it's on unless you get a chance to take a glimpse of the indicator light. Oh, by the way rear tire lasted 2,000 miles. The Panigale V4.....the second best way to use rubber. Well, the best way
@@Freakyfetus not even for some grammar and spelling lessons?
Dirk Diggler don’t be that guy Dirk
I’ve just bought one. Got a good deal on it. Can’t wait for spring now!
Hard to ride, hard on the seat, hard on the wrists, lots of heat - sounds like a real Ducati to me ;)
Donnie Desmo 😁
It takes a rider of very high caliber to get the most out of this machine...
Well, it is reliable too that you forgot to mention..
@@sfcindia981
The only way you will get anything near what this machine is capable of, is on the Track.
You will not get THE Ducati experience from this machine on a day to day basis, on normal roads.
Who told you it's reliable?
How many have you owned......?
Don't confuse a 1 year old Ducati with a 3 to 4 year old Ducati.
Why not just get a Tuono and get it all ... with a real V4, the best chassis, without the roasted nuts, without the torture ergos, and insurance nightmare ... and looks just as good ... "but It looks nice" just isn't the right answer ...
@@constantineeliadis5582 because not everyone wants a naked bike
Your reviews are great. But for the reasons mentioned on the V4, I decided to go with the Supersport S. None of the heat issues, wonderful Ducati noises, still a 2 cyl bike, and rough around the edges. Riding position is much better, and it looks good in the garage with a coat of wax. Here in the US, the higher speeds are out of question on the roads, but track days are still wonderful, since you enjoy 100% of the power available with the 937, and live through it. Mine is a keeper.
I agree completely. Tested a SS S and loved it (I have owned an 1198S and MTS-1200) except the frame knbs dug right in behind my knee caps. Could not squeeze the bike... bought a Tuono instead ... could be the perfect bike ...
Incredibly honest review and opinion based off of fact. I have all of about 2k miles on my Speciale and love it. Having every S model panigale (1199 to the V4), this model is so much more user friendly than the previous ones. I can be in 6th gear and drive in the city at 45 mph (sorry we don't use kph...) which was almost impossible to do with the older models. Great review!
Man, you speak the truth.
Not the best on track, painful on the road.
Just a $24K "Pretty Toy"
It's like having a sexy girlfriend who can't cook, clean, and makes me do all the "work at night"
But she look good though, man thanks for the real review. Was tired of other people saying "How much of a track weapon it was", or "How they could commute for hours"
Exactly
Seems like these bikes are mostly used for weekend rides and the odd ball longer trips. By your analogy a better description would be like being married during the week and having a sexy supermodel to "ride" on the weekend and bring with you to Spain on your holiday.
I used to own an 1199s and had no problem riding it for hours; both in town and highway riding. I know it's not the same bike, but the 1199 had the same complaints as this new V4. Hot, uncomfortable, the list goes on.
My experience was nothing but awesome. I put over 5,000 miles on that bike and would still have it in my garage if not for life circumstances.
I’m lucky enough to own several Ducati’s, and I can relate to your comments about the pleasure gained by simply staring at them and taking in their beauty. Somehow this one aspect seems to blind me to their flaws. The comment below relating the bike to that beautiful girlfriend who was a bit of a handful to live with, but you put up with it because she looked so damn good is spot on.
Thanks and admiration for your honest review. Not my cuppa tea but I like to read about the actual riding experience. I'm just a voyeur. Love the look. Can't handle the discomfort. Can't afford the price or service. Michael, I know I can trust your reviews. That's why I'm here.
Regarding Ducati service - do you think that the average punter would get the same priority service, care and attention, that MCN gets?
Gerhard Symons my bro and some friends own Ducatis - they haven’t had a problems on that score. 👍
I do for sure Oxford Ducati are first class!
FK no, they are beautiful rides, if you're a master mechanic.
@1066Rider I'd say keep using the main dealer, I got 1200 quid worth of parts for nothing outside of warranty because I've always had it serviced by Ducati
The chief of our local Ducati dealer said once: If you got nothing but Ducati stamps in your service book, then the goodwill outside the warranty isn´t a problem. He said also, that it is so since Ducati is owned by Audi. cheers
Great points! I love my V4 Speciale! #215 of 1500. Cheers!
I know exactly what he means. I keep walking out into the garage to look at mine. Very nice for the weekend one hour curvy ride to breakfast on the coast and one hour back. The Akrapovic exhaust took care of the involuntary castration problem.
Always enjoy Neevesy’s videos... he’s a top class bike journo.
I so much respect MCN for the objectivity of their reviews. I chose tyres according to one of theirs and I was so happy with the choice. Respect.
So, here, turns out that friendly (= fast for the average rider) is still the real area of "exotica" for the Italians. Those guys just need to torture their customers, for decades on end.
Nice review...I am thinking of buying a 2019 V4R ($45K...Yep, that's a chunk of change) and if I do it will be just for what you described, the Saturday rides to just experience the 234 H.P. and the visceral nature of the beast...I'm a just retired Engineer but in my youth I was a two class AMA Expert License holder and raced at Daytona in '75 and though I have always liked to ride fast and push things I have no desire to get on the track anymore...I did that when my reflexes were such that I was at my fastest and most fearless.
Excellent review, and nice job of putting into words why someone would choose a Ducati, or other "premium" brand. No one needs a 24K bike, and if logic were always the deciding factor in a bike purchase we would all be riding around on 500cc commuters. Logic was no where to be seen when I traded my Honda in for my first Ducati :-)
True! I'm at my 14th something blke and can only conclude that I just rode those Ducatis much more frequently than any other. They're not reasonable at all, but then again motorbike riding isn't either. And for that, they're the best out there 😉
Well said
I've enjoyed every video on this bike. I wanted to find out what it was like to live with and compare it with my experience of my Ducati 748 which I had about twenty years ago, bought new. They seem very similar. I used to work for MCN, Motorcycle Mechanics and Motorcycle Racing, many years ago and still like bikes and watching bike films like yours. I am just about ready to buy another bike, my last one being a Suzuki V-Strom. Good videos, keep them coming.
Enjoyed following this, nicely done mate.
Just like other comments on this vlog, an honest review. Smacks of integrity! Thanks!!! 👍
I switched to DOT 5.1 for the clutch fluid, i could see yours is black already. My dealer replaced the quick shifter, and for some reason the chain has to be in DUCATI speck for the quick shiter to work correctly, i don't like to run my chain that tight, but it won't shift with the quick shifter unless i do run it tight like Ducati wants, and the warning light did come on for a minute once, but it went away. Other than that it's been a incredible reliable and trouble free bike. Thank you for your review Mike.😁
Glad you enjoyed it. My mate loves his and the time I had a go on it, it instantly felt like an old friend for me, and those brakes.!!!!!!!!
Next years long termer I can see a s1000rr coming.... just saying
Thanks for the honesty in the review
Awesome summation of this bike! I used to own an 1199s in the Arctic White color and loved it. Hope to be able to own another Ducati someday. Hopefully the V4R... :)
I had BST’s on my 899 and I noticed a difference in tire wear and grip also. It was even more noticeable on Yas Marina where grip began to fall off after about 5 or 6 laps.
Beautifully done mate. 👍
"....completely reliable"...."I've had a few engine lights come one, the quick-shift hasn't worked at one point, but all of those problems, and all of the recalls have all been sorted out". Right.
meaning he never got stuck abroad with something unridable
Good update, I think ill buy one next year
Looking forward to see you Testing the new S1000RR M-Performance with Oem carbon wheels 👍🏻
Sean C looking looks a beast, eh?
Right!
Abe the PRICE! Way decent
So Technologically Advanced that it can't tell you the fuel level in the Tank......
That's just unnecessary weight.
Real rider doesn't need that crap
Great review!! Thank you
Always great videos!!!
Great honest review, let’s hope they bring out a Streetfighter.
Having been on track with you at Brands last year, you’re definitely not shy on the throttle 😂
Jim 86 your dream just came true
HOLD ON. You're telling us how reliable it is but in 8,000 miles you've had check engine lights and the quickshift quit working. Sounds likes it's very far away from being reliable
I think he mentioned it not being a big deal because those were all recall notices that were eventually corrected...
Some dumbass who can't afford will always keep saying, ducati's aren't reliable..
I can afford one and there junk so I sold it already
Moving on to bikes that work... looking forward to 2019 versys 1000
i'm curious - if you had to choose between this and the BMW1000RR which would you choose? :)
I considered one when first released and very hard to get in Australia, but after inderstanding how hot they get, i shelved the idea pretty quickli. Average temp 28 in summer on the Gold Coast. Gix the heat issue and Ducati would sell many more... even as a second bike. Cheers.
I have a muktistrada pikes peak and looking to get a panigale for fast road use, maybe a track day or two. I’m tempted to get the base V4 new, or would you recommend paying £5k more for the Öhlins not sure I would see much of a difference
On my V4, my engine was dying in traffic after an hour. Super hot and started bogging, then just died in 1st/2nd gear. Did anyone's else have that issue?
Should've gotten an Aprilia
I always keep looking back and admiring my 83 nighthawk
maarten194 Same goes for my 88 Hawk.
If you own a Ducati, most likely you love it.
That bike is obviously not made for touring. Like you said its made for a Sunday morning ride. I disagree with you about being not good for track cuz it'll beat every other stock bike on lap times. Imo for the track its all about riders preference. If you've a smooth riding style you'll not like it but if you want mad speed on straights you will.
Detailed honest review, well done!
Nice summary ... Thought you are talking about my 1299S 😍
Such a honest review, you say you would never get it after riding 7k+ miles. Wonder how ducati reacted after seeing this video.
I ve ridden my ducati for 8 minutes and its been the shop for 8 weeks, it was an amazing 8 minutes btw not sure when i will see it again tbh
259559ful Try not to crash it next time.😆
259559ful Well that’s terrible. No issues with mine yet.
Its about the feeling you get when you ride it :)
Hi
Are you going to do a review on the 2020 Panigale V4 S
Brilliant video!
Did you have any waterpump issues?
Exactly how I feel about my 1299. Cheers!
It's beautiful. That's for sure.
Great review with such a honesty on it. Two questions: which other 1000’s can be considered more comfy than this, and which bike will be your long termer for next year. Waiting for next ones, love your reviews!!
The new GSX-R1000 is probably the comfiest of all the super bikes right now. Not sure what I'll be running next year - I should know early next year.
BMW S1000 has a very favorable ergonomic profile for a sport bike. Lower pegs, higher bars, cruise control to help the right wrist. Very comfy
this is the second or third time you've said this bike "has been completely reliable" and then gone on to list 6-7 repairs or issues its had in the short 8 months you've owned it.
do you need a refresher on what "completely reliable" means?
Oso 11 an engine light and faulty quickshifter is all. Neither stopped me riding or caused any problems.
@@neevesybikes Those are LITERALLY problems.
Well, 2 out of the 3 bolts that hold the metal part that my peg and exhaust mount on snapped on my BMW in like 2 months of riding. I think quickshifter failure and an engine light is better lol
Well if you are going to be LITERAL, he didn’t say “problem free” he said “reliable”. A bike that always gets you from A to B and that you can trust on is a reliable bike. Feel free to LITERALLY look reliable up in the dictionary to refresh yourself. “Suitable or fit to be relied on, dependable, able to be trusted”
my 2005 gsxr 1000 did 100k miles with zero problems
my 2015 hayabusa is about to hit 50k miles also zero problems
i need some real world experience im thinking of getting this bike anyone have more then 20k miles on one of these bad boys? ps i use my bikes as dailys so i dont want it to be in the shop every month.
You are right Michael. Ownership is always the top aspect when you talk about expensive things. This Ducati is no exception. Don't you worry about leaving this bike, there will be others, plenty of them. You just have to keep healthy and enjoy them.
Great update Neeves, can’t wait to see your review of the new S1000rr
I love this bike
Good work mate! - does make me laugh some of these comments 😂
Could you do a video on how you maintain your chain Michael?
Peter Bengston wipe mine off with GT-85 after every ride.👍
Spit shine with Guinness.
so which bike would you buy in 1000cc bike
Hard to not be jealous when he said that its price is nearly an average yearly wage in UK, when in Poland its around 4 years of average salary. Sad but well, gotta work with what you have .
if it's your (or any average rider's) own $ would take last year's GSXR-1000R over V4s as your one all around bike @neevesybikes ?
Are you sure about the bike having brake by wire? There seems to be a normal master cylinder which the brake lever connects to directly.
InlineSix it goes via a computer controlled pump - it’s how the electronic ABS works.
Thanks for the clarification @@neevesybikes ! So it's not purely brake by wire, there still is a hydraulic connection between the lever and the brakes.
InlineSix hoses from the two brake levers to a pump, then another set out to the callipers. There’s no direct connection, which is why they don’t have the feel of a non ABS system.
@@neevesybikes I understand, thank you. Awesome bike.
@@Reihe_sechs Well yes and no, the connection is direct - as in there is no servo assistance from the pump so the pressure you produce at the lever does go unaltered and directly to the caliper, as long as the ABS is not intervening. But the pressure lines do go through the abs-block which contains a number of valves, galleries and a pumping mechanism. This in turn leads to inevetable changes in flow and flex properties of the system, which will take away "feel" as Neeves stated.
Which One Is Best? Ducat Panigale V4s Vs BMW s1000rr?
so if you put better tires, tweak the suspension ecc the other 1000cc are faster...what if you do the same on the V4 then?
That is the question. The V4 S has got all the good bits already...
There is always a better/racier Upgrade. Look at the new S1000RR, with Carbon wheels OEM
@Michael Neeves
How would you compare this bike with CBR 1000RR as a touring friendly superbike?
Pramathew Yayawar the Honda is way better for long journeys!
@@neevesybikes
Thanks for the reply.
What about the track? Can the "underpowered" Honda match the beastly 214ps raw power of the Ducati?

Thanks for the link Michael👍
Wow! Despite being the least powerful, 'blade posting the 2nd fastest lap time was amazing. And according to you, 'blade could have posted faster times sans its electronic intrusions.
Well it seems Honda did pay heed to what you had mentioned(they had to, cause you're the best🙂); and for 2019 they seemed to have rectified their anti-wheelie and ABS software.
So should the 2019 blade be faster still? What you reckon Neevesy?
Completely unrelated question but hot to be asked, are you going out in every day jeans or bike jeans?
Bike jeans...
Interesting. Not as reliable as a Japanese superbike, nor as fast, nor as comfortable, nor as easy to ride. But you still adore it.
That x factor is why European marques are still doing so well, and long may they do so.
Ride one and ride it hard and youll know why people adore these bikes. They are not made for road use :)
Nick Headley because he didn’t have to pay for it. When you pay for something you become more fussy
Nick Headley he adores it even with the downfalls because he hasn’t had to pay for it
@@Jay-yg8jj The looks department is purely opinionated. I agree on the sound tho, thunder-like exhaust on the rsv4
The RSV4 is a 10yo bike lol it's got nothing on the V4 not in looks, not in weight or performance lol
It’s not the most beautiful Ducati superbike, it’s ok...but that engine and the technology is pretty sexy.
Can you confirm what form of black magic you used to keep the chain that clean looking on a road bike?
I clean the chain with GT85 after every ride.

Brake by wire implies that the hand lever is connected to a voltage source and electrical circuit that is read by an analog to digital converter that takes the digital signal and sends that to a motor or something that actuated the hydraulic fluid that goes to the calipers. I don’t think thats the case. I think Mercedes has brake by wire but I’ve not heard of bikes doing it. The Panigale does have ABS but that’s not brake by wire in the full sense.
My RSV4 makes me feel special. It will be interesting to see how it goes against the 1100 RSV4.
8.500 miles without adjusting the chain and no stone chips . 4.500 miles out of a rear super corsa . Utter bollocks

Soooooo sad: @3:13 two women walk by without giving even a glance at the bike... where are the good old biker girls getting excited in presence of a red Ducati rocket!?!
Lasergun What have you been smoking? Bikes do nor attract gals. Dogs do.
Chris Bramblett meh... maybe I’m old. Back in the days we always had loads of girls around, when my friends and I arrived in our town main square with our bikes. Maybe today men are non manly anymore and girls are non attracted by manliness anymore. But now I’m long time married and that’s not my game anymore. I feel blessed I was 20 in the 1990’s in Italy.
Lasergun Times have changed a lot for what women like since the old days.
A spotless chain yet 7k mile oil changes? Man, you got your priorities backwards.
The V4 only needs oil changes every 12,000km, Mr Spoonman.
You seem to have completely missed my point. Your chain doesn't NEED to be spotless yet you keep it that way while simultaneously running dirty oil in the engine and transmission. Doesn't make much sense, does it?
spoonman73 I get your point - I change the oil in my S1000RR race bike after every meeting. But there’s little point changing it before the manufacturer recommends on a road bike, though.
You can't afford it my arse 😂
