Yeah except we would basically have no doctors left if we did that. Where would we get enough doctors to actually be seen? I agree, don't get me wrong, but that wouldn't necessarily fix the systemic issues.

The low iron for years was me. I noticed severe constipation during my third pregnancy with my last child. My last child Isaiah was about three or four years old when I was diagnosed with stage three colon cancer. I was 31 years old then. Still here at 50 years old and that baby boy is now 24 years old. 🙏🏾 I thank god daily for my life. Women have to fight so hard for answers. My sister was anemic for a year as she was fighting to find out why she was sick. A doctor overrode the warning in the medical softhearted multiple times claiming her Anemia was from her periods, yet every time she saw him, she made it clear her menstrual cycle had stopped. It was cancer that went undiagnosed. My father was found to be anemic and they found his cancer the next day, because his doctors took it seriously. He is cancer free, unlike my sister. The disparity in care is disgusting 😢 Thank you for speaking up. I pray that you continue to prove them wrong.

Hospitals get financial kickback from the federal government for diagnosed cancer patients. I don't know if clinics not connected to hospitals do, but if they don't, it'd explain why some doctors seem to not want to test for cancer. If a doctor working out of a clinic not connected to a hospital finds cancer, sending the patient to the correct facility for treatment will mean that clinic not getting the income that patient brought.

I tell the doctors every last symptoms, even if it's minor. I'm sure my doctor thinks I'm a hypochondriac and I don't care. I have to argue with her to get tests done, and even then I get a copy of the results and look them up for myself. I had low iron, low vit D, sub-optimal magnesium, vit B12 and folate. For YEARS, I even asked the receptionist to send me all my past results so that I could see I'd been low for years without them ever really saying it was a priority to address it. I felt SO much better after I supplemented. Doctors are almost useless these days, but if you can get your hands on a test result and google "optimal" levels versus clinical deficiencies, you can take matters into your own hands and ACT to heal yourself.

Had I listened to the first Doctor I took my then 17yr old child to three yrs ago and just taken my kid home and given Tylenol instead of listening to my instincts and taking my kid 4 hrs away to the children’s hospital the doctors at children’s said my kid would have died before that next morning at home. In those first hrs at childrens they weren’t even sure my child would survive with treatment because the sepsis was so bad. Caused by kidney stones. It was infuriating the first Doctor refused to even take a set of vitals or take a temp though I begged over a dozen times. He basically told me I was just being over dramatic and needed to stop. He then handed me the paperwork to sign to leave and I told him I refused to sign anything because if my child died , I KNEW this kid was extremely ill, I was going to ensure he never even worked flipping burgers the rest of his life. Filed complaints against him and then after reality to our insurance company they filed a complaint against that doctor as well. Unfortunately I am unsure of any r repercussions if any that occurred for the idiot but to me the most important thing is I ended up getting my child to better treatment anyway and my kid is now 20. I still despise that doctor but I’m actually glad he was not the one treating my kid in the end because obviously he was not a doctor we could trust and I honestly don’t believe the outcome would have been positive had we ended up staying there.

My mother had colon cancer and was told a similar story, she was placed on iron supplements. The surgeon said that she probably had the tumor for ten years, it was very slow growing. As the surgeon said, good medicine isn’t high tech, it’s common sense. She did survive and lived 14 more years, to 83. Passed from a stroke. At 59 I was found to have a very large flat polyp in the same area as my mother’s tumor. Which was exactly ten years before my mother’s diagnosis. The polyp was removed successfully. Persistence AND the privilege of being a man. I am happy you got it figured out early. Women generally face longer waiting times than men for cancer diagnosis, especially in specific types of cancer like breast, gynecological, and colorectal cancers. These delays are often due to complex referral pathways and barriers in healthcare systems. For instance, women with breast cancer may wait up to 20% longer than men with similar symptoms for other types of cancer.

I think a lot of cancers and other ailments (even if it's not cancer) could be prevented if doctors were just honest and did the appropriate tests, instead of making assumptions about symptons or brushing them off as "normal" or not a big deal. This is where I've learned my lesson to get multiple opinions, and once you find a good doctor, stay with them. My current set of doctors do routine check-ups, including blood work, and aren't afraid to take the steps necessary to ensure my health. I've never been told ("Oh you're fine, no big deal") yet by any doctor. All of them said "Let's take a look, and maybe do some blood work and see what's going on". Sometimes they wouldn't find anything (and they were right) but at least they were willing to go through the process to check and make sure. So yeah, I agree, I think many things can be prevented or at least managed better if doctors listened better and knew the appropriate steps to take, instead of just being quick to put people on meds and call it a day. To that note, Personally I think that giving any incentives from drug manufacturers to medical care teams or companies should be illegal (it probably is, but it doesn't seem like it's enforced at all).

Im so sorry this happened to you. This gatekeeping and not giving refferrals should not be legal. I dont have cancer, but have another serious condition that will probably shorten my life. I also could not get a referral. I spent two days calling to find a provider at a larger hospital that would see me because my local provider would not investigate further. After two weeks of calling, emailing, getting records sent, I finally was able to get two separate NPs from large medical centers to do telehealth with me. Thank God for them! They got me on better meds, started doing the right tests.
I'm still getting testing and not sure we have the complete diagnosis yet. I have organ damage already, but at least I have hope now. I didn't before. And BTW, my local provider DROPPED ME for going to the larger med center. So now I don't even have a local GI to do a colonoscopy.

I just retired as a med pro after 35 years. Our healthcare system is so broken, messed up, facked. I was very good at what I did but had to get out b/c I could no longer be and do as well as possible d/t bureaucracy. The Federal Government taught me to lie more and more and I have major values around truth, but I provided whatever I knew my clients needed regardless of whether ‘they’ said it was billable or not, and I told billing “do what you need to do.” It’s such a racquet. It’s no more about exceptional, quality care for clients. It’s about $$$.
I’m so sorry this happened to you. It happened to me cpl times as well, until I got up on my hind legs and howled - tactfully of course. We must take up for ourselves and I told all of my clients this.
God bless you. Sending love and holding you in Sacred Space. ❤😊

No...(And hear me out to the ADHD/ABI end, because you deserve to know)
Because there are really amazingly great doctors - and some formerly oblivious ones who care enough to learn. *Those* doctors will remain, bouyed by their patients' relief and appreciation. It stabs when the Doctor/Specialist who figured it all out & left detailed notes for your successors, alerting them that you are a Zebra) retires and you imagine this new doc glances at your chart & decides to start from scratch because it's highly unlikely you have Blobbitydah's. And you go through 10 docs, losing your mind for the body's response to cold turkeying a med he thinks doesn't matter.
I hope you are simply angry because someone pre-emptively yelled at you who suffers a kind of PTSD from this - whose frontal-cortex/executive function/emotional control is at half power/non-existant - and NOT because you told a person who was rped 30 years ago that her neck issue is just "age-related arthritis" and then doubled down on it because the neck is "preserved" (nope, more accurately "realigned" after 6 years of treatments, traction, PT, pool therapy - all having been stopped on Pandemic and Medicare changes. Upon which, Efforts continued out of pocket, and dedication won for decades until becoming sedentary/overweight due to low iron after cancer surgery 2 years before,, and then ongoing windedness afterwards).
⚠️My prayer is that you are a *good* doctor - maybe young - who didn't deserve it, who will read these things and know these folks are hurting, and it's NOT you - it's why they *need* you.
You also have my heartfelt appreciation if you were that amazing ER doc who *listened* when I told him IV fluids at regular intervals would keep both of us more sane when my turn would arrive in 5-12 hours...Bravo! And Thannnnnnk youuuuu!❤❤❤❤

It amazes me how doctors do not take these symptoms seriously. Even if it’s just peace of mind, why do they avoid checking just to be sure. That is their job. There has to be a reason they do their very best to avoid running tests or scans. Especially doctors in the Southern California area.
I had to show up to my doctor multiple times for bleeding in my rectum before he finally referred me to someone. Here I am 2 months later waiting for my appointment on December 4th, 2024.

It breaks my heart to hear your story, and so many stories like yours. For those who don't know, studies indicate that women generally face longer waiting times than men for cancer diagnosis, especially in specific types of cancer like breast, gynecological, and colorectal cancers. These delays are often due to complex referral pathways and barriers in healthcare systems. For instance, women with breast cancer may wait up to 20% longer than men with similar symptoms for other types of cancer.

This happens to a lot of people. By the time they listen to you it has progressed. Many people if treated for health concerns early they wouldn't get cancer. I am one example of many. I was blessed to have my cancer caught early because I wouldn't let them blow me off. My son was sick and yet they didn't red flag him during a physical. A month later I had him in the emergency demanding answers.
Too many people get told they are fine or they are just being neurotic. My sister died from breast cancer and they could have caught it much earlier if they had listened to her.

This is truly tragic. I am so glad you advocated for yourself. I work in healthcare and any alert provider knows that colon cancer is showing up in much younger people than in the past. The years of anemia should have been an alert. If iron supplements didn’t reverse the anemia they should have ordered the colonoscopy, endoscopy etc to identify the cause of the blood loss.🙏🏻
