Do you actually believe it is better somewhere else? Always get second opinions. If it was not for the US system, I would not have found my cancer as soon as I did. Meanwhile, a relative in Canada dies waiting for an MRI.

To all the cancer patients out there, feel better and remember never to give up hope. My Mom is a stage 4 cancer patient and she hasn't given up hope. She still goes out with her friends, dresses up, lives on her own and cleans up her own place. She just turned 87 in April. Don't lose hope.

I was diagnosed in my 30s with Stage 3 colon cancer 😢 I just gave birth to my daughter, and I was experiencing abdominal pain way before becoming pregnant! I remember my parents who both passed away from cancer, taking me to the surgeon's office, and right then, and there, they did an endoscopy and then a colonoscopy and it didn't come back good at all. They told my parents it was life or death and I need to be admitted overnight into the hospital 😮 so I had surgery, and here I am 29 years later, lucky to be alive. The 😇 were with me, and the doctors and nurses even stated that!❤

No one takes a young woman seriously. I can't believe that one person said your "old" age was the cause of your heartburn. When I was 33 I was literally having a heart attack in the ER and they just kept me waiting and telling me things looked "normal" just like you! It is terrifying, but she described a bunch of symptoms beyond fatigue. Fatigue was the first symptom and it progressed through to heartburn, trouble swallowing, extreme and unexpected weightloss (huge flag there), etc. I'm assuming these symptoms developed as she progressively moved from stage 1 to 4. The medical system did fail her, though. She obviously didn't feel comfortable advocating for herself until things got really bad.

I am in follow up with the neuro endocrine oncologist team as they didn’t want to remove it as it is too deep and too small (they would have to open me up : very heavy operation) so I have my third scan in august to see if it is still there or if it grew or spread. My husband was my biggest advocate because I was blown off so many times 😂😂. But I live in Belgium and our medical system is wonderful! I only pay about 50 EUR for an MRI, CT scan and PET Scan. If there is something I’ve learned when dealing with doctors is one, always push for more testing! If they say I don’t see nothing wrong with you, you answer back by saying well for my peace of mind I want more exams done, and you demand them!
Another thing, if you have PPO insurance (does not need referral) take it upon yourself go find a specialist, in this case a gastroenterologist.
Third and more important. EXAGGERATE your symptoms, I know this is not honest but they will pay more attention to someone in “excruciating pain”, ” having nausea”, “vomiting”, symptoms “everyday many times a day”. This is in case you need referral from them.
Also tell them that your symptoms have been there for long and that you have tried medicine already.
I know is too much but many doctors will take care first of the insurance then the patient. Sorry that it is the reality here in US.
Try any of these if not all and you’ll see a change.
I hope they find what is wrong with you and remember that no one knows your body more then you and that no one will take care of it better then you.

I had a baby and 2 months after I started to feel side and back pain. I saw 4 different doctors and they all just said it was musculoskeletal pain and to take anti-inflammatory meds. 7 months later im still having the pain. For the 3rd time i went back to my doc and complained about my pain. She once again said it was musculoskeletal and gave me attitude and asked what do i want. She asked me if I wanted a MRI? I said idk, i dont want to waste resources and she says it's entirely up to me in a condescending tone. I said yes lets do the MRI because i was scared. Normally we get a random pain and it goes away in it's own. This wasn't going away so i knew something was wrong. Not to mention all of the other symptoms i started to feel. Numbness in my extremities and pressure in my back as if something foreign was there. Day after the imaging she calls to tell me i have a rare spinal disorder in adults and apologized to me. Moral of the story, we know our bodies better than these doctors. They gaslight us and make us feel like we're over reacting. While they may feel like cancers and certain diseases are rare, it still happens every single day. We may be that rare case. And the longer we go untreated the worse the outcome maybe. Dont just take meds without knowing the WHY. The WHY is the most important but that's where doctors get generic and prescribe meds to just treat the symptoms. Advocate for yourself always. Be safe rather than sorry.

And due to the excessive limitation of access to important tests, scans, and specialists, if everyone who came in with vague symptoms was tested for the worse first, the wait time for such tests would be so excruciating that those who need it would most likely not get it on time. But there’s a method to most of the madness! Assume benign (if no blazing red flags) and FOLLOW UP. It’s the follow up part that’s important cause most benign things will improve overtime or with simple treatment, it not doing so is a red flag in of itself

Many people, especially young women, get disbelieved or ignored when they note extreme fatigue.
Alyssa, if reading this, so sorry to hear about having had to go through this.
Severe fatigue seems reported by many prior to cancer diagnosis. It seems to be a notable symptom.
The fatigue and other symptoms often are not taken seriously quickly enough or get attributed to something else. Tests are inadequate.
Thankfully the issue was finally found. Now the next round of challenges.
Appreciate much Alyssa’s sharing. This may help others.

Stomach cancer is nasty. My mom passed away at 54. Her symptoms were pain upon eating. She was treated for an ulcer, unsuccessfully. By the time she had her endoscopy she was diagnosed as stage 4. She had spread to her lymph nodes as well as her spleen. I'll spare the rest of the details. I wish you the best. I'm also glad to hear that treatments are evolving, and clinical trials are available. I'm now 54 myself and I have routine colonoscopies/endoscopies every 5 years.

You are far from alone in getting screwed by the American healthcare system, I worked in a hospital for 20 years, and I can tell you firsthand that priority #1 for doctors is their own livelihood, not yours. Of course, they will do just enough to stay out of trouble, but they cut corners whenever they can get away with it. Frankly, it's not just doctors, it's the entire healthcare system.
No one will care more about your health than yourself, that is why it is so important to learn as much about your symptoms as you can and do what you can do on your own. I'm not saying to not see a doctor, I'm saying don't take their word for what is wrong with you and what you should do. They are often wrong. And search for functional medicine doctors.

I’m keeping you in my thoughts ❤ my dad has been battling cancer going on 4 years and it seems recently it’s been harder to keep faith, but I try my hardest not to let him see that. You’ve got this!!

I tested positive for H-pylori in February. 13 days of strong antibodies but I only tested because I pushed for it. I am the doctor’s worst nightmare as a patient because I am very pushy to get tested. You are very brave and I can tell you’re a fighter. Stay strong 💪 ❤

Stage 4 stomach cancer here! Diagnosed February of this year while 28 weeks pregnant!
Love to see our story told… I’m so sorry that you’re going through this but thank you for sharing your story. I was told the same… we will keep an eye on it - a tumor that was growing but no one wanted to do much about because of my pregnancy. I thank the lord for the surgeon who finally said we need to remove this because you can go into sepsis and I trusted him with my life and my son’s and before we knew it I was in the OR. The next day, the news that it was cancer. It’s been a rollercoaster since and just completed my 6th chemo round yesterday.
We will get through this! Sending all the prayers and positive vibes. I’m also part of the sister cancer group - it’s been so helpful through this journey.

They did a surgery on you while pregnant?

    • @arellytran
      @arellytran 4 дні тому +18

@@1bluegreen2 Yes, they removed a tumor from my belly button area. I was 28 weeks pregnant. It was that or go into sepsis because my tumor was coming out and leaking out of my belly button. I had had a gallbladder surgery there in 2023 so the abdominal wall was weak. My baby is now going to be 3 months the 16th. He did two chemo rounds with me.. also while pregnant. There are many stories of women enduring chemo while pregnant. It’s out there… but yes, my son is a walking miracle!

I think a great addition would be to add the patients social media accounts (obviously with their consent). That way we can actually follow and support them during their journey
