Playing only the 1234 downbeat is how every modern day country music guitar singer frontman seems to play at shows it to the point where I’m not convinced they actually know how to play the guitar and then it’s just a prop that they stand behind lol
@stevecameron1879 Every rock band has borrowed from country at some point or another. Ray Charles was told not to do country but he did anyway and it was a gold mine!
@@LearningGuitarSecrets Thank you so very much, my inspirations, amongst others are E A Presley and Mario Lanza, I appreciate your comment and compliment very much🙏😎TMG
Great explanation given that I overcomplicate everything! Speaking of complicated... With respect for your knowledge and with the hope you can take this not as criticism but constructive feedback, often the use of the word "retard" is considered quite offensive and derogatory to people who are intellectually challenged or disabled. I know you were using it on yourself😂, of course, but something to think about. Thanks for your hard work helping us learn. Your methods and approach make a lot of sense to me!
So, the beats always exist, even if you don't play them. It's kinda like when Steven Wright said he was in the forest and a tree fell right in front of him, but he didn't hear it.
I do what you said you used to do. I play my chords to the same cadence as the lyrics. (the melody) That is the only way it sounds like a song to me. 1 2 3 4 is not a song. It does not sound like anything.
I’m pretty good at guitar and bass but before I got into those I played drums for about 5 years and I gotta say playing both guitar and bass are both just like playing drums but with a “melody” or whatever
watched out of interest as I'm already a very competent guitarist but you never know you can always learn. I didn't but ..... good advice well presented. .
Clear as a bell, which is your trademark, great, 👍
THANK YOU, David!

Wow, I saw Steven Wright in person many, many years ago. Very funny.
Dave Grohl never took a guitar lesson, (he says), but plays guitar just like this.. like a drummer would which he is. Thanks!!

The singing is the song. Your playing is the rhythm, hence play to the beat not the melody.
Acoustic guitar = hi hat. Bass drum=bass guitar.
