    I have watched many videos on the things you can do with your Kindle, but they all seemed to repeat the same tricks over and over. This tutorial is different - perfectly explained, really useful tips and it was actually a pleasure to listen how you speak, you chose your words in such a way that the sentence remains clear but it's also coherent. Thank you for the video :)

    I was worried about replacing my high-end older oasis with this one ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxCgPI5O2AtmcHq9SJhgsCGbpAzJAJfrJp but it is surprisingly light and the screen resolution is just as good. I never had the warm light on my old kindle, but i do not use it on the ipad so I will probably not need it. I think the only thing I'll miss is the self-adjusting light, but this is so worth it!

    0:57 -- The Paperwhite DOES NOT have to be connected to the internet in order to get the definition of a word and save it in Vocabulary Builder. The default lookup occurs in the Oxford English Dictionary that comes installed on the Kindle. Every once in a while you might encounter a word that gets past the OED and then, if you're not online, you will be prompted to turn off airplane mode so that the definition can be found online in Wikipedia, Merriam Webster, or another online dictionary.

      I was the same as you. Used to read a lot in my youth, in my teenage years I abruptly stopped.
      I have a child now, and really want him to read. Started with a hard cover, but found it actually bothersome compared to how I remember.
      Decided to get a Paperwhite, and I went from 9pm to 4am reading Fellowship of the Ring. Literally got lost in time.
      Paperwhite made it far more enjoyable and far easier on my eyes, with added benefit of me not needing a dictionary next to me to learn words I didn’t already know or could decipher from context alone.
      Seriously, I got mine on sale for 80$ but after having purchased I will gladly purchase at full price once my child is ready. A much better option than a conventional tablet for reading. No distractions, and only bells and whistles that compliment the device and it’s purpose. I enjoy the Paperwhite to the point where I’m actually considering on spending the 250-350 on a Kindle Oasis

    My advice to anyone who is struggling whether to buy the ad version or ad-free version. Buy the ad version, it is about 25usd cheaper. Then visit kindle's customer service, and ask politely if thry could remove the ad for you. (Maybe say that it is too distracting) And they will remove it for you. I tried it and it works. No point wasting money for the ad-free ver. since it is super easy.

    Thank you for a job well done. I learned some features I did not know. I avowed many times that I could not see a reason for an e-reader. Then I tried one. Now my wife and I have our own devices and we have hundreds of books on them. The only time I prefer a printed on paper book now is when it is a topic that uses and needs charts, maps, or diagrams. Oh, the other utility I like is the option that allows you to buy a cheap Kindle version of a book you bought in print. Very useful when you are waiting on line or in someone's office.

    This is so helpful and will give me so much more from my Kindle Paperwhite. The only thing that really frustrates me about the Kindle Paperwhite is that when you open the Kindle to read and swipe to start reading, it opens the book at your bookmark. I want to open the book at the front cover/tile page so that I can see the name and cover of the book that I am reading. It helps me to remember the books I have read.

    • @nishant9928
      @nishant9928 4 роки тому +4

      Well yeah it's working fine, I had dropped it on several occassion and spill water unintentionally but nothing affected it.
      Further, its always better to go for a cover to protect it or (an insurance which might cost you another 1200 for everything)
      There aren't any amazon service center yet so what usually happens is if your device is found faulty:
      With warranty- you get a new like refurbished product (they will claim its new but it isn't) Without warranty- you get a 10-30% discount on next purchase of any kindle)
      I used Amazon as I got a 600rs discount using Amazon pay later.
      In brief, the quality it brings to your reading experience is worth all the hustle!

      You can also export the vocabulary cards to your computer to put in Anki or another Flashcard program.

    Great video. I wasn't aware of the Flashcard or x-ray options. The x-ray feature will come in handy when reading novels and trying to remember characters.

    Vocabulary Builder on works for Kindle proprietary format that is AZW I believe.
    You have to convert your pdf to AZW in order to use Vocabulary builder feature.

    Good video on how to use a kindle. This information should be supplied with it when you buy it. It seems bazaar that Amazon does not tell you about it's features I got no instructions at all so had to work it out but I have now discovered more things it can do which were hidden from me.

    My kindle paperwhite is kept on airplane mode and the dictionary still works. You just have to download it in the language you want, so you don't have to keep the wi-fi on. To locations or things that most probably won't be in the dictionary, you can have your wi-fi on to look for it on Wikipedia. :)

    You can go on the experimental browser on a Kindle Paperwhite. On the home screen, in the top right corner, there are three dots. Tap that button, and then press Experimental Browser. You can go on google, blah blah. If you wanna read more things, use the experimental browser to go on a website called Wattpad, and you can read many different books there (for free!) They are by different people, so some may not have perfect vocab and grammar, but it's better than nothing. This may be unavailable for some people, I think if you have child protection or something it won't let you do this function.

    A quick way to change the font size is to *PINCH THE SCREEN* TO zoom in or out and that quickly changes the font size. I use my thumb and pointer finger. 07:09

    Amazon is almost (not quite, yet) building too many features into these devices. Am I alone is wishing they would instead build more battery life into them instead? In fact, I'd put up with a thicker reader to get more battery life.

    • @Sulfen
      @Sulfen 5 років тому

      The battery life isn't that bad. Just charge it for 15-20 mins every 1-2 weeks and you should not run out. You can also carry a small portable battery charger.

    A great video, thank you! What bums me out is that some of these features I can't use, for instance "Page in book" is not available, the feature is greyed out, and Xray I don't even have. Suppose it's an older version then, it says 5.12.2. And also sometimes it says "1 min left in chapter" the whole time, it doesn't change.

    I have the previous (first) version of Kindle Paperwhite and it doesn't have the X-Ray option, however it has -I think- everything else you mentioned here. Anyways, I really like my Kindle and got it really cheap, so maybe someday when this one gets too old I'll invest in one of the newest ones, cause I know it'll be worth it.
