This is my friend's second Kindle. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxOnUR4NaproSbBbD2sdI4XcDZ58Jz8GOx The first one which is about 5 or 6 years old quit charging because the bottom connector went bad. When I saw they upgraded to a USB C connector I knew it was time. I think the old USB Micro connectors are a PIA. Her new one is great. It synced right out of the box and connected to WiFi immediately. The thing is perfect! Sooo mine will arrive tomorrow. (Been reading off an old Fire) What bugs me are the reviewers that give this product one star because it didn't work out of the box or they were too dumb to figure it out. If it doesn't work send it back and get another one. It couldn't be easier with Amazon. Giving it one star because it didn't work says nothing about a good one that does work. I bet a bad one is one in a thousand or more. Give it a break...just get another one.
My old 2013 Paperwhite started to slow down dramatically so instead of resetting the whole thing I decided it was time to upgrade. But now, it’s not as easy to choose as it once was! So I started looking at videos to research ....but after seeing several....I still could not decide. Then I ran into the Master. Should have known! Nobody - absolutely NOBODY -covers The Kindle better, and I could have saved time searching for “Len” instead of “ kindle reviews”. Ordered the new Paperwhite yesterday. Thanks Len - brilliant job as always!

I was searching for the video like this to know thoroughly about various models of kindle to buy one of them. Your way of explanation is very simple and superb Mr. Len Edgerly.
I honestly think this is the best review/comparison on UA-cam. Not just for Kindles but for anything. You covered and clearly showed/explained what people are interested in
@@LenEdgerly do you have any books you would recommend? I’m just getting into reading. I’m interested inFiction or fact. Maybe you have a video on books I’ve missed?
I have been using a kindle for about 11 years, and I agree, I always have a case, to protect the screen when I have the kindle in my wheelchair bag. I don't got anywhere with out my kindle. I used to have to carry multiple paper books, especially when going to the VA hospital, that was usually a 3-5 day stay. I tend to read about a novel a day under usual circumstances. when I am stuck in the hospital I can read closer to 8-10 books a week, as there is absolutely nothing else to distract my mind. my current kindle died after 6 years of hard use, so I just ordered a new paperwhite.
Many people overlook the weight and the distribution of it and it is really important if you want to read for prolonged periods of time. Thanks for the review. I have two paperwhites but I want to buy the new model that is waterproof, i love trekking and camping so it may be a good upgrade.
I like the explanation of the buttons and why you like them. My boyfriend is the same. I'm more of a kobo user, but I love to watch these comparison videos
Wife and I upgraded to Oasis from Kindle 3rd gen and the difference in screen resolution is a huge difference to us. I love reading before bed and the Oasis makes it so easy and comfortable. I use Calibre to organize my library on my PC and sync with my Oasis. In case someone doesn't know you can download your purchased amazon kindle books by going to the amazon website and navigate to Manage Device Content. I like to download my AZW3 files and load in Calibre to manage a more expansive library.
This is a really clear and comprehensive review! I'm close to buying a Paperwhite but I'm worried that as soon as I get it theyll release the gen 11... but if you keep waiting for the next new thing you'll be waiting forever. Oh well
I had the oasis but if you take the bus some people think it is a tablet which puts you at more risk to get attack so I would go with the paperwhite kindle. Having a phone out to read your kindle books is also not a good idea if you have to take a bus especially late at night.
I completely agree with your thoughts on page turning buttons! I cannot have and will not have a kindle without the buttons. Excellent reviews and advice!!!
I'm a wide and avid reader and I'm very appreciative of e-reader gadgets. I prefer the Paperwhite version. I have it with me most of the time specially when I go out on a trip, etc.. For pure reading enjoyment of novels, short stories, etc. it's the nearest thing to a paperback. It's light and has no distractions like web browsing, music, photos, videos, etc. like in iPads and the likes. I read on my light Kindle Paperwhite during dull moments like when waiting for the bus or your wife to finish her groceries or shopping, etc. With my Kindle Paperwhite on a week cruise, I never missed my ultrabook my wife commandeered skyping to our grandkids. I think I only charged the gadget once for the entire voyage.
I really prefer buttons for page- turning. I have the first generation Kindle from many years ago and it still works wonderfully, never had a single issue with it. Still using it almost daily. I keep it in a case of course...If I upgrade I might choose the Oasis.
It was a pleasure to listen to you, Len. I enjoyed your well thought out comparison of Kindles with the bonus material about their competitors. I feel the same way you do about page turning buttons, a feature I miss from my old Sony reader. However, my hands are so small I think the larger width would take away some of the pleasure of reading with one hand. I inadvertently discovered that by looking at your hands holding the Kindles. Thank you for this comprehensive review, from a new subscriber.
I am actually regressing to the previous basic Kindle after having the Kindle Paperwhite and the Kindle Voyage. I know that they say that the front light isn't as harsh on the eyes as a back light, but I still get watery and burning eyes when I read them. You are not able to turn the front light off completely. I have always turned them down to the lowest level, where the light icon disappears (grays out), however when you turn out the lights, you can see the blue glow coming from them. I also have to recharge my Kindles every week, which I remember only having to do no more than once a month or so on my Kindle Keyboard years ago, even with the Wi-Fi turned off (basically, Airplane mode). I found where they still had some basic Kindle 8th generations available on Amazon, which I believe is the last generation without the front light. I ordered one to see if that proves my theory about the poor battery life of the more modern Kindles, which, if that is the case, the higher dollar Kindles will be left in the car and at work for when I find myself with some down time at Lunch and in need of something to read - with strategically placed chargers, of course. As far as the number of pixels is concerned, if I was able to read regular sized print, I would continue with printed books, but I need the ability to enlarge the text, which works great on Kindle. Once the text is of a certain size, the crispness is a moot point. I have loved my Kindles for 20 years, but I'm concerned that the quality is going to suffer in order to keep up with the latest gadgets. Just my opinion based on my own experience and use of the device.
Brilliant review thank you! I wholeheartedly agree with the page scrolling on oasis, that few seconds saved really makes a huge difference on the reading experience!
Nice review. Thanks. I bought a 2019 Paperwhite. I prefer this to the Oasis because I prefer holding it in one hand. As of December 2019, there are no cases available for this aside from the pouch style.
Fantastic review. I am gifting this to my dad who is having a hard time reading books now and your video helped me decide. Thanks! (I'd enjoy a Kindle Writer myself. :) )
Such a first world problem! ;-) My personal favourite is an "old" hd6 fire. It fits in my jacket pocket, the screen resolution is excellent, and I can not only read, but do so much more. Why don't they make them anymore?
Very informative and helpful! Thank you for the review. However, could you please share the link from which you get the cover for the Oasis3? I find it unique and elegant but can't find it anywhere online.
It looks lile amazons official leather case. I dont think they make the cases like that anymore. They now fully cover the back of the hump and look like they stay on place better. You can see in the video where the oasis wants to fall out of the case
Hi Len. I enjoyed your video overview of the Kindle e-readers. I have a 5.5 inch android phone with the Kindle reading app for reading e-books or listening to audio books when on the run. For long form e-reading I have my Kindle Paperwhite 4. It is also great with e-books and audio books. It is also the easiest on my eyes because of the e-ink screen. For immersion reading when I want to read and listen to a book at the same time I go with my Amazon Fire HD 10". I find it sharper than the Amazon Fire 8". I especially enjoy immersion reading for non fiction history books.
John, thanks for your comment. I wish I had mentioned the Audible capability of all three Kindles. I too love immersion reading, and it makes sense it looks great on the HD 10.
Hey Len, than you so much for a wonderful review! You really helped me. :) Could you share the brand of your oasis case? I loved it and can't find anything like it!
Great review, thanks, have the original kindle w. keyboard, the paperwhit and paperwhite with light, totally convinced to get a oasis as I feel, like you, the immersion is interrupted when you press the screen!
Weight was the motivating factor for me to get a Kindle. I have a Galaxy Tab E with the Kindle app, and I love the color for marking vocabulary and stuff. BUT, with the case it weighs almost 2lbs. Even with a hand strap to support it, it isn't comfortable to hold and read. Just ordered a Paperwhite :)
Thanks, very interesting! With regard to the e-ink tablet for writing notes. I have bought «paperlike» screen protector for my ipad, which changes the feel completely, regarding how it feels to write or draw on it. I haven’t tried an e-ink note-taking tablet, but I don’t feel a need for it either.
I'm in this situation where I really wanted to buy a kindle but thinking if I should buy now or wait. I'm wondering if amazon will release a new paperwhite next year. I know it is just a rumor but it could also be true looking at the previous timeline of their previous release of product. any thoughts or advise? Thanks a lot!
Just seen this excellent video, Len! Great to see your personal arsenal of tablets - as at June 2020, are you still using all of them? Also, are you still using the ReMarkable? I've just purchased one :) Many thanks!
I have a couple of questions. I read a lot of novels and pocket books, but might also be reading a lot of modules and textbooks in the future for my graduate studies. A tablet, I think, is still better for textbooks and PDFs. So my question, is the e-ink Kindle screen really healthier for the eyes than the iBooks customizable screen (you can also adjust the brightness, font, background, etc.) on an iPad? If yes, is it worth it to buy the two devices, or will I be okay with just an iPad since I'm reading a variety of formats?
The reMarkable tablet, first edition. There is a new one coming it soon that looks even better, reMarkable 2 - remarkable.com/?msclkid=f03ea91cd5c217165d26f633ce336691
thank you, great video. I think the weight of the Fire HD 8 makes it prohibitive as a daily reader. Do you use the Paperwhite for audible books at all? if so how does it hold up? I use my fire hd 8 for audible books with a small bluetooth speaker. I'm keen to see what Kobo has to offer, my wife uses a Clara HD.
Not a fan of the Oasis. I did all my reading on a Kobo Aura One, but I got an incredible deal on a Paperwhite 3 and I ended up loving it. I liked the Paperwhite so much that I bought an Oasis and it just isn't comfortable. The aluminum is cold and slippery, and it feels awkward no matter how I hold it. The weird shape prevents it from fitting in any of my pockets. Heck, my Aura One fits and it has a 7.8" screen!
I would like to have a Kindle for the purpose of using the Hoopla or Overdrive app to read free ebooks. Is the Fire the only one that has access to download apps?
Love your Arsenal! That Remarkable tablet looks terrific but after looking it up,it definitely seems a little bit expensive. Strange that Amazon hasn’t put out a larger e-reader-I definitely think there is a market for it!
Very good review... I really like the cover on the Oasis. I am thinking of purchasing an Oasis over the Paperwhite but am I not sure. I think I will prefer the Oasis since I like to read at night. I like the oasis cover shown in this video too..
I think the Kindle paperwhite signature edition would otherwise be the choice for me, but none of the Kindle devices support immersion reading (listening to an audiobook while reading at the same time). I think that is very disappointing, especially considering how well immersion reading works in the Kindle app. I hope they will one day fix that. It is especially useful when reading in a language that is not your native language (which is what I would be using it for) or if you otherwise struggle to concentrate. I am now instead probably getting an onyx boox device. Those are basically Android tablets with an eink display. Many of them also support a pen similar to the reMarkable you showed, but since it is an Android device, I can get the Kindle app on it as well. It is kind of like a compromise between a Kindle and a reMarkable. It’s not waterproof like the Kindle paperwhite would have been, though.
Hey thanks for helping to make up my mind on the which kindle is probably good for me. BUt my favorite thing came at the end. The Remarkable... too cool! I will have to wait a bit and anyway the next one won't deliver till october but the Remarkable 2 looks amazing! That is on my "get this next"list :-)
I’ve found that resolution doesn’t matter on e-ink if you’re using a large font. Frankly I don’t like sticking the kindle right in my nose so I always use fairly large fonts. I’d probably like the bigger oasis screen though 🤔
Just keep saving! I remember when i was a kid i had to cut grass for family for dirt cheap to save up for a ps2. I eventualy got one and still have it to this day. Its worth it to take the time to save up for what you want. Just put some up every check and you will have it before you know it
Getting the oasis 3 soon myself. Its pricy but i dont upgrade tech to often and i want the best as reading is somthing i do for relaxation and fun. I want to make sure i can fully injoy ny time and whats 300 bucks for years and years of use?
Hi Len, could you tell me the tan leather case for the oasis with the magnetic detachment? I looked at Fintie but I don't think they are the correct ones. Thank you.
I subscribed to your podcast. I am an Amazon Enthusiast, owning four of their devices myself. I am also interested in a note-taking e-tablet. I would like it if Amazon made something like that too.

I too read my 7th generation kindle paperwhite in the bathtub while it’s in a ziplock bag. I thought I was the only one!
hi! what alternatives can u suggesr? I really cannot afford a kindle 😭. Thank you
Love your Arsenal!
That Remarkable tablet looks terrific but after looking it up,it definitely seems a little bit expensive.
Strange that Amazon hasn’t put out a larger e-reader-I definitely think there is a market for it!
John Rigs I agree, John!
Thank for this. Very clear and helped me make a decision.
Very good review... I really like the cover on the Oasis. I am thinking of purchasing an Oasis over the Paperwhite but am I not sure. I think I will prefer the Oasis since I like to read at night.
I like the oasis cover shown in this video too..
Great review. Thanks from the UK.
That was a really good review thank you
Very nice review...has helped me to decide, on which best for me to buy..thanks *
Thanks for the review.
Did you also consider the Onyx boox note pro for writing?
I’ve found that resolution doesn’t matter on e-ink if you’re using a large font.
Frankly I don’t like sticking the kindle right in my nose so I always use fairly large fonts.
I’d probably like the bigger oasis screen though 🤔
Thank you so much for this video! It was very well done!
Thank you! This is the review I needed it! I really want the oasis but it hurts to pay that much :( I'll probably get the paperwhite:)
Just keep saving! I remember when i was a kid i had to cut grass for family for dirt cheap to save up for a ps2. I eventualy got one and still have it to this day. Its worth it to take the time to save up for what you want. Just put some up every check and you will have it before you know it
Super video thanks a lot Mr Edgerly !
I’m having a hard time choosing but if you guys can direct me ? Down the wire which one is the go to?
Getting the oasis 3 soon myself. Its pricy but i dont upgrade tech to often and i want the best as reading is somthing i do for relaxation and fun. I want to make sure i can fully injoy ny time and whats 300 bucks for years and years of use?
Thank you, this has been very helpful.
Hi Len, could you tell me the tan leather case for the oasis with the magnetic detachment? I looked at Fintie but I don't think they are the correct ones. Thank you.
nevermind. I think they may have discontinued it
Thanks for the Informative video.
nice work Len , I guess I'll go with the basic kindle since I don't read much and this is my first one
I subscribed to your podcast. I am an Amazon Enthusiast, owning four of their devices myself. I am also interested in a note-taking e-tablet. I would like it if Amazon made something like that too.
