Still using paperwhite 7th gen (2015). It's been a long road: finished all The Wheel of Time books, The Witcher, The Mistborn and Stormlight Archive books written by now. Planning to finish Discworld. The Kindle is still working great. See no point in upgrade 🙂
Using the Paperwhite 5th gen (2012) myself, and it works just fine, however the backside gets slightly sticky now, which I believe is from plastic softeners, so it may be time to upgrade soon.
I just bought a used 6th Gen Paperwhite and it's great for reading. I don't see the point of adding more and more unnecessary features to what's supposed to be a simple e-reader.
My thoughts exactly. There is no warm light in my Kindle and I still use microusb. There are no such "necessities" as wireless charging and 32 gb of storage. So what, who cares? I mean who needs 16/32 gb and Bluetooth for instance? I'd rather listen to audiobooks on my phone and I will never store and read tons of heavy pdfs. At the end of the day, it's the screen and battery that really matters. I simply want to read my books.
@habibhassan7770 the case for the Kindle provides a lip around the power button so that when you set it down, the button doesn't get pressed and shut off the kindle
I usually use a clear case on my kindle so the power button is never an issue, but I just ordered a Kobo Libra Color and the UI is a huge part of what drew me to the device. I’ve been using Kindle longer than I can remember, but the interface really needs to change and the older I get the more I hate being advertise to at every turn. That said, I love my blue Kindle paperwhite signature edition. So for now, I’m good. Thanks for your reviews. I’ve watched many.😂
I got the metallic jade, it’s beautiful. I really like the charging stand. I leave it on there when I’m reading at the table. My first kindle without the ads and I am really enjoying that.
Thank you for the clear review. I think I will stick with my Oasis reader. None of the new Amazon readers indeed would be improving the reader experience. Thank you again
Thanks for the review. I have kindle oasis 2017. I admit when I see how fast the new kindle is, I'm really tempted to upgrade. But my kindle still works and hold a charge well, so I'm probably going to hold off another genereation or two before replacing it.
I must be the only person in the world who doesn't care about the location of the power button and has never had any issues with accidentally pressing it. 🤷
Many people don't care about the power button's location. It's all just personal preference. Even if Amazon relocated it somewhere else, a new group of people would just replace the current group and complain about the new location. The reason why it's at the bottom is because that is the placement of where the motherboard is located. Amazon says they don't want to change the feel or weight distribution of the Kindle in hand from what people already know because most people tend to like the Kindle as is. If the placement of the power button is a device's biggest complaint, then that device is likely doing everything right.
I, too, have no issue with the Paperwhite's power button at the bottom. In any case, I use a nice protective jacket-with-hand-strap for mine that keeps the button from engaging if set on its bottom edge and lets me hold it without needing my hands to be in that area.
Same almost every UA-camr I’ve seen complains about the power button and it doesn’t bother me at all and I have NEVER not once turned it off accidentally.
I got one, and I like it a lot. I like reading manga on it, and the extra screen size actually makes an appreciable difference to the 11th gen. It's big enough to enjoy manga but small enough to fit in my pockets, which is perfect for me.
That Power button location is mind boggling. I've switched to Kobo now and loving it. I still love my paperwhite but it's frustrating how these issues still exist. It's like they don't think they have to try anymore.
Great review! I have a 10th gen which I really like. I agree with you on the speed. It's not enough to justify getting a new one. I'm taking your advice and keeping mine.
Regarding the power button issue, the explanation I've heard is that they have to have the power button there so that it's close to the display hardware. (I don't remember the exact wording used.) Honestly, I've found it an awkward placement, but not problematic. Maybe it's because i always use a cover, but I never find myself putting enough force on the power button to activate it. I do wish they'd change the placement, but it's not something I find urgent.
Having to pay to remove the ads infuriates me. Especially if you’re already a prime or kindle unlimited member. They don’t necessarily bother me, but it sucks feeling like I’m still connected to Amazon trying to sell me something after I already purchased the device, the prime membership and kindle unlimited.
I have the previous generation signature edition and I don't see enough features to make me buy a new one. I really love my device, especially the warm light feature. You do the best reviews on Kindles. Thank you!
Good review. I don't have a problem with the power button only because I use a case. I was thinking of the new Signature edition but now I've had chance to cool off a bit I realise it's a fair bit of money for basically a speed and storage upgrade. Also, that slight increase in size would mean, for me, a new case too! And the Amazon cases are good but over-priced for what they are.
I'd really like to see a video like this with the new Kindle scribe. I'm still confused about which software features will be added to the old one I own. Mainly the ability to write directly in my book. I don't think it's out yet though.. However, if I ever got a second one... This would be it! Thanks for a great review!
I'll bet he does a comparison soon after the new Scribe's release. I'm looking forward to it, not so much for comparison, but because I'm considering purchasing a Scribe for the first time.
For what it's worth, I really like it. What I like the most is the bigger screen when reading, but I really have no complaints otherwise. I've read mixed reviews, but I use it for note taking every day...
Hi Maneet, was looking forward to you review. Been checking out your yt channel, almost every day a couple of times for an update. Great review indeed!! Worth all the wait 😊 But wanted to ask you how does the metallic jade finish feel like ? As in grip wise, is it plasticky or rubberised soft touch like previous generation paperwhite models? My hands sweat a lot, and i have plans of using the kindle without a cover bcoz of the beautiful metallic finish, but i m concerned about the grip. Would be a great help, if you’d reply.
Alright family… I received my Kindle Colorsoft. I read on it for 3 hours. Spent. 30 minutes on a manga, crashed 5 times. Lastly, the screen started to yellow at the bottom. Oh and the sharpness delta on the colorsoft is enough to notice for us that have used the paperwhite for a while. Needless to say I have already processed the return for the colorsoft and bought this one. I am giving my previous gen paperwhite to my wife, but honestly, wouldn’t have needed to upgrade otherwise.
I only recently found your channel but I find it very informative and genuine. I do have a odd question.. Im struggling to decide whether to keep the Papaerwhite 2024 or the Libra color... both have their good and bad
So happy with my new jade PW! I got the 21 plum right before the 22 dropped cos I didn’t know they were coming out 😂 the battery has always been bad (charging every 2 weeks with minimal use), super slow, no warm light and it was my only micro usb item for the last few years. But, I dont just want it to sit on my bookcase. So I’m gonna put it back to factory settings and sell it cheap to my friend. She’s never had an e reader. She loves reading but she has young kids so she’s never been able to justify buying herself an e reader, especially if she doesn’t know if she’ll reach for it in her limited free time. So I’m more than happy to re home my old one to her. If she finds that she loves it, she can slowly save for a nicer one!
The Signature Edition with the "metallic" back is much less of a fingerprint magnet (although it's still not as good as it could be) and easier to clean. I think the speed improvement is massive. I think that's worth the upgrade.
Great review and advice. I plan to keep my Paperwhite from last year but would go with the new one if something happened to it. I agree with you about the location of the power button. I don't get that much battery life even though I keep wifi off except when I need to use it.
I’ve had problems with ghosting. I’ve had two now, the first one I thought it must be a defective unit as I haven’t seen anyone else talk or show it, and it’s noticeable to me - and more so than my old basic 2019 kindle. So I ordered a replacement kindle, and it’s the same. I don’t know if it’s extremely bad luck to get 2 kindles that are faulty- or that’s just how it is
I already have a kindle paperwhite (but from 2013 😂) and it’s still working! But now with this new kindle I fell that it’s finally time for an upgrade ❤
I am looking at the new signature with black friday its at like $140ish (in bundles), I had to replace my old Voyage July last year because the screen cracked 😢 but the new one had warm light but doesn’t have the auto light regulator so many times I dont realize Im uncomfortable and never adjust it. I Love kindles and I have had many, but since the Voyage I had never changed so I feel bad for getting a new one so fast. But I kind of need the light sensor. Is it really good in this new Signature Model? I read a ton and Kindle actually makes it easier than paper for me. I still am probably the only one missing changing pages on the borders without touching the screen!
is the auto brightness even a legitimate feature on an e-reader? i've set my kobo frontlight at 5% and almost never touch it; perfect for reading in the dark, and in the light you don't need or notice it anyway.
I have the Kindle 2018 paperwhite, and I love it! It’s the perfect size imo. The new kindle is so wide :( I love reading with one hand. Also, I love how I can fit the Kindle in my pocket. The new one probably won’t fit. I do like the warm light feature though.
I’m showing my age but my first two kindles at the power button on the top! It was back in 2005/6 When they change the location, it’s a while to retrain myself
A request. When reviewing devices, can you make sure to include a view of the font options? It can be fiendishly difficult to figure out which fonts are included in each version. (I assume it has the same fonts as the 2022 Paperwhite, but it would be nice to have confirmation of this). For ebook publishers, knowing what fonts are included is very useful.
Thanks for your review. I have a PW4 and an Oasis. I don’t think I will be buying another Kindle because they don’t have page turn buttons. I guess they don’t think enough people prefer the buttons to make it worth their time. As long as other devices are available, I will be buying from them.
If I get a Kindle this is definitely the one for me, but… how do you think it compares to the Kobo Clara BW or Libra 2 (if I can get one used around the same price)? I’m not interested in a colour e-reader from either of these companies.
@@Maneetpaul Thanks for feedback, the 12Th edition is little bigger then 11th edition and a little bit faster. New firmware made the the 11th pretty faster also. And the screen is no contrast on the 12Th edition PW.
Thank you Maneetpaul, appreciate the review. Question: I got my PW 12th Signature, and the bottom half an inch of the screen appears to be slightly warmer compared to the rest of the screen. Can you confirm if this is a common occurrence? Have you experienced this with your Kindle devices?
Any and all display technologies have lighting anomalies. They can be a bit more extreme on rare occasions and may qualify for a replacement. However, no display is ever 100% the same in every way, even when comparing the same model. This goes for TVs, cell phones, etc. The Nintendo DS models were notorious for having terrible, uneven lighting. However, this was a manufacturing issue specific to the DS display manufacturer. It doesn't affect the reliability of the screen. But it's a bit annoying if you see it, and it's pretty stark. With any display, you may or may not notice a slightly brighter spot on the display panel. It's not unique to the Kindles but all devices. But again, if the difference in lighting is quite stark, it may be a returnable item, and you can get either a refund or an outright replacement in exchange for the device that is having issues.
Hi Maneetpaul paaji, I have old 2019 edition of basic Kindle. I'm planning to buy the new Kindle Paperwhite because of its advanced speed & deep black ink since my old Kindle doesn't produce deep black ink. Reading on it doesn't feel good anymore. That's why I'm currently reading physical books alot. So should I upgrade to new kindle Paperwhite or continue with my old model and wait for Colorsoft for price drop in the next year sale (in India).
What about the warm light uniformity? It has been noticed that almost every unit has some degree of this issue. Especially at the bottom of the device it's the screen is noticeably warmer.
My one annoyance is the fact that you cannot get the Metallic Jade colour in Canada for the PW Signature. We only have TWO colours: black and raspberry. Not buying until Metallic Jade comes to Canada.
I am curious of your thoughts on the paperwhite versus scribe especially if you just want to read. I have the scribe but am thinking going back to the paperwhite again. The larger form factor on scribe is hard to hold and read at times. What do you think about colorsoft? I only read black and white. Would appreciate your perspective.
Sounds like the Paperwhite would be perfect for you. Scribe is too big for primarily reading. And the Colorsoft isn’t worth it if you primarily read black and white!
The last time I owned a paperwhite it would only let me rotate landscape in one direction. That was frustrating cause holding the bezel was good for one handed, but I could never switch hands
I love green but I really don’t like that Jade Green, so I ended up getting the basic metallic black as my very first Kindle. Bummer. Still quite beautiful though. Oh and that auto brightness is absolutely faulty. It just doesn’t work. If you don’t mind the soft touch material, and if you don’t need the 32GB (who does ?) then get the standard Paperwhite. But overall, I’m in love with that e-reader. It completely changes the way I read, for the better. Awesome.
I've seen a bunch of reviews but no one seems to mentions the *_feel_* of the screen! I had a Paperwhite 3 (2015) and I like its mildly rough like paper screen feel (at least that's how it feels to me), it's unlike smooth lcd phones. This new flushed screen one looks like it has a sort of glass layer to it. Does it feel like phone screen now? And it seems to reflect some light at certain angles (like at 4:25). I hope someone can clarify these two things for me. I'm way overdue for a new one! Thanks!
The Paperwhite does, in fact, have a glass screen with anti-reflective properties. It's not at all reflective like a Tablet or Phone display. If you hold it just right and look at it under a light bulb or in full-on direct sunlight behind you, you will get a bit of a glare. But this is true even on the Kindle Basic, which doesn't have glass but the panel itself. Glare won't be an issue under most lighting conditions. The Kindle displays are a joy to read in most lighting conditions. But of course, if you go to the extremes, you will get a glare on any device. Only E-Ink displays deal with this much better than other display types. I can sit anywhere in my house or outside and usually never have a glare issue. Now, holding a lamp over me, I get a glare, as any smooth surface will reflect back light if the light source is directly above your head. But if that light source is off to the side of you, like a lamp on the table next to the couch, it should be a non-issue. As for the feel? Physically? Extremely smooth to the touch on any Kindle model.
I just bought the new kindle paperwhite signature edition and the battery was draining fast, I was only getting a day and a half out of the battery so amazon replaced it for me and it’s the same with the new one. I saw on Reddit some people were saying it can take a week or two for the battery to stabilise due to indexing and updates happening behind the scenes. Does anyone know if this is true?
I got a $50 trade-in allowance on my Oasis, plus the 20% discount. Since they're discontinuing it, I think Amazon is wanting a good stock to refurbish and sell.
Please make a video on the new Kindle 2024 edition (Basic, Paperwhite) vs. Kobo Clara BW. I want to buy an e-reader, but I'm confused. Could you please suggest one for me? I don't read manga or comics.
Hi. Is auto adjustment option on signature edition 12th worth to buy signature, does it make big deferences between paperwhite and paperwhite signature edition? What is your opinion?
4:00 well if you like the way the Kindle feels, then don't expect this to change anytime soon! There are several reasons why Amazon refuses to change this. One of the main ones being it makes the most sense in regards to location of inner components (like the motherboard). As far as I'm concerned it's not a big enough issue for anyone to be consistently complaining about. (This is coming from someone who has shut their Kindle off by accidentally touching the power button a few times. It doesn't happen often). Just get a case! And lastly if a device's biggest concern is placement of a button? Then I think they're doing a lot more right than wrong😅ijs Good video but the complaints on the power button are like...10(?) years old! Amazon has heard it all! 4:44 now THIS i 1000% agree on! Even though I'm in Canada and it doesn't affect me😅
I have a kindle pw 11 and 12th gen, the 12th gen feeling faster in reading performance, but I noticed it really takes much longer (maybe 1 sec vs 5 sec) to "wake up". that's really weird.
May I just say the black front is not very good with the coloured backs? Why not make the front white, like the new green Scribe? It just looks like a Kindle with a cover on, to me 🤷🏻♂️
Black bezels while reading feels much more comfortable and is less distracting. White bezels on the scribe make it feel more like a notebook when writing. Just my guess on why they did this.
@@Maneetpaul and how about you? What do you prefer? See, I have a white Libra Colour and have to say I quite like it. Somehow, even more than my Oasis, which I hope one day will come back, one way or another 😉
I went round and round with quite a few customer service reps trying to get them to take the ads off my kindle oasis (9th gen) and they refused each time no matter how I tried. So I paid the fee, then called and told them I did it by accident. They refunded the money and the ads never came back. Just sayin’
For me the signature version is worth it for the semi metallic back. It does not hold on to finger prints like the rubberized. So far they have been coming right off with a wipe down.
So Maneet could have said upfront that if you already have a PW, don't bother upgrading! Unfortunately, I did pay the £20 not to have ads. I do like the b&w screensavers and book covers; it makes the Kindle more "book-like". For me, the power button issue is the size of it, rather than the placement. Every single You Tuber complains about the location of the power button.
what's the deal with the power button on the bottom? Serious question. I've been using the paperwhite 5th gen for the past 12 years, it also has the power button at the bottom, and it has never been an issue. But I reckon other people have other experiences.

I Love kindles and I have had many, but since the Voyage I had never changed so I feel bad for getting a new one so fast. But I kind of need the light sensor. Is it really good in this new Signature Model? I read a ton and Kindle actually makes it easier than paper for me.
I still am probably the only one missing changing pages on the borders without touching the screen!
great honest review as always-thank you :-)
is the auto brightness even a legitimate feature on an e-reader? i've set my kobo frontlight at 5% and almost never touch it; perfect for reading in the dark, and in the light you don't need or notice it anyway.
The power button location is perfectly fine
I have the Kindle 2018 paperwhite, and I love it! It’s the perfect size imo. The new kindle is so wide :( I love reading with one hand. Also, I love how I can fit the Kindle in my pocket. The new one probably won’t fit. I do like the warm light feature though.
Thank you. As always great review
🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Now that the Kindle has gone full colour, I really hope the Scribe is next.
I’m showing my age but my first two kindles at the power button on the top! It was back in 2005/6
When they change the location, it’s a while to retrain myself
I don’t think the fonts have changed, all of that is software based. But thanks for the feedback I’ll keep it mind for the future!
This the signature version right?
Hi. Are they still fingerprint magnets on the back? Drives me crazy with my current black paperwhite
Thanks for your review. I have a PW4 and an Oasis. I don’t think I will be buying another Kindle because they don’t have page turn buttons. I guess they don’t think enough people prefer the buttons to make it worth their time. As long as other devices are available, I will be buying from them.
Is The signature edition soft to the touch like the standard edition. I like the plastic being soft.
If I get a Kindle this is definitely the one for me, but… how do you think it compares to the Kobo Clara BW or Libra 2 (if I can get one used around the same price)? I’m not interested in a colour e-reader from either of these companies.
awesome review and guide.
Its gona be a good upgrade for me going from PW 11 16gb to PW 12 SE 32GB with auto adjusting backlight
Very much agree about the power button
How does the screen compare to the screen on the Kindle Voyage? My Voyage is still going strong but I wouldn’t mind an upgrade.
Should update from 11th signature edition?
I don’t think it’s worth the upgrade. It’s barely any different
I have seen people on Reddit complain about this and it appears to be a fault
Sounds like a mistake. I would ask about a replacement.
Does it have auto rotate?
can you confirm that in paperwhite 12th the idle time setting option is missing?
Are ads on a kindle a USA thing I’ve never heard of this before
My one annoyance is the fact that you cannot get the Metallic Jade colour in Canada for the PW Signature. We only have TWO colours: black and raspberry. Not buying until Metallic Jade comes to Canada.
How does it compare with the Kobo Libra 2 regarding to display / eye strain / night mode?
Can you make a video on comparison between the kobo clara be and the new kindle paperwhite
@@GalaxyFur Thanks! Yes it does seem like the glare's really muted and hardly noticeable when in use, unless like you said on certain scenarios!
When kindle 12th gen paperwhite will be launched in india ??
I just bought the new kindle paperwhite signature edition and the battery was draining fast, I was only getting a day and a half out of the battery so amazon replaced it for me and it’s the same with the new one. I saw on Reddit some people were saying it can take a week or two for the battery to stabilise due to indexing and updates happening behind the scenes. Does anyone know if this is true?
Very balanced review.. thank you. God bless.
Hare Krishna
I want this Paperwhite so badly! Currently rocking a hand me down Oasis and the battery life on the PW is enticing me...
Trade in your hand me down and get 20 percent off a new PW.
I got a $50 trade-in allowance on my Oasis, plus the 20% discount. Since they're discontinuing it, I think Amazon is wanting a good stock to refurbish and sell.
I’ll keep my kindle oasis
Please make a video on the new Kindle 2024 edition (Basic, Paperwhite) vs. Kobo Clara BW. I want to buy an e-reader, but I'm confused. Could you please suggest one for me? I don't read manga or comics.
Any update over launch in India??
Hi. Is auto adjustment option on signature edition 12th worth to buy signature, does it make big deferences between paperwhite and paperwhite signature edition? What is your opinion?
The auto brightness feature by itself is not worth it. It’s nice to have, but such a small feature in the grand scheme of things!
Then I think they're doing a lot more right than wrong😅ijs
Good video but the complaints on the power button are like...10(?) years old!
Ads can be tackled by operating the kindle on airplane mode
Just sayin’
No Kindle model is available in India. I Don't know how to buy.
For me the signature version is worth it for the semi metallic back. It does not hold on to finger prints like the rubberized. So far they have been coming right off with a wipe down.
The Amazon original cases are to expensive! 😢
Does anyone experience ghosting on the new signature paperwhite? My 11th gen never had this issue before :( and my new one does.
