I'm a huge Beatles fan. I had a Beatles wedding, using majority John Lennon and Beatles songs. I had this song in my wedding when the parents were walked out to their seats. Last year, when my son got married, he and I walked out to this song because he escorted me to my chair prior to the bride entering. It was amazing.

The bridge of this song sounds like a harpsichord, but it’s actually a piano part recorded at half speed played by their producer, George Martin. I always loved that part
Paul woke up one morning with the whole of the melody for Yesterday in his head. He was certain he had heard it somewhere else, but when he played it to other people they confirmed that it was an original and that he had effectively written it in his sleep. The original working title/placeholder was "scrambled eggs" before he before he landed on the word "yesterday"
Greatest and most prolific band in music history. I'm a sixties' child who grew up on The Beatles, and many of their songs have taken on new meaning over the years. This one makes me weep.
My favorite Beatles song ever. The first songs I ever heard, learned to sing, or to play. I hope when it's my time to go, I go listening to them. Thanks 👍
Rubber Soul and Revolver were 2 incredible albums back to back, showing the Beatles progression from standard early 60s pop rock to more creative stuff. Rubber Soul was The Pot Album and Revolver was the Acid Album. It got wilder with Sgt Pepper, but this was the beginning of the transformation.
I like how you think man. Very knowledgeable to music and open minded. To your mother, so sad our sweet animals have to leave us. Hope you're feeling better now.
Hard to believe you haven't heard this song before, it's absolutely iconic. And yes, the best group ever. This is John Lennon's composition, my favorite Beatle. I bought this album (mono back then) the day it was released.
Thank you CLIFF for reacting to "IN MY LIFE" it holds a lot of memories for me and is very special to me for several reasons. You are right about life. At 76 my life has just flown by, and quite frankly, the Beatles had a very huge impact on my life several important ways. Their music helped me get through my life in happy, sad and especially in very difficult times "in my life." I want to have their version of "In My Life" played at my funeral.
This song.... played it when my mom died because it was her favorite song EVER.... and will have it played when I die... for the same reason. This and Ringo's "Photograph"... yeah, they get me every single time.
The song that came to McCartney in a dream was Yesterday. He kept playing riffs from it and asking people what it was. Since no one knew it, he finally realized that he had created it. Let It Be, was inspired by a visit from his dead mother in a dream, but I'm not sure that the melody came to him in the dream.
"...Kids in the park, Don't take long before I'm laughing along with them. Almost makes me wish those times could come again. Get's me feeling good, and yet sad at the same time..." NEIL DIAMOND
And John Lennon was only 24 when he wrote this song... A man with a lot of emotion and clever wordplay to express those emotions. Oh yes... the song your Dad remembered that Paul dreamt of, was Yesterday... he had the chords and melody in his head when he woke up and he thought that it must have been a song he had already heard... so he went around asking a load of people as he played them the rough chords... and of course everyone was saying nope, don't know that so it eventually became his song Yesterday. Oh yes... becuase he didn;t have lyrics at the beginning, the working title for the song was Scambled Eggs... Try it and see, sing scrambled eggs in place of Yesterday... it works.
Yesterday (originally scrambled eggs until he wrote real lyrics to the dreamt melody) and Let it be (his mother Mary told him in a dream to let your troubles go, let it be) are the 2 songs Paul just woke up with the song or at least the melody in his head.
My high school graduation song! (1980). My best friend and I would sing Beatles songs and fight over who got to sing the melody. We still sing together 40+ years later. ‘Two of Us’ is an amazing song with great harmonies as well. Glad you finally listened to your dad! 👏🏼
Ringos drums. Just gently swinging all the way through. Psychedelia begins here too. Note the distorted album cover, this was 1965! They're just hinting at it here with Norwegian Woods sitar and George's brilliant If I Needed Someone. No hiding it on the next album Revolver. With Tommorow Never Knows they kicked open the doors of perception and went full psyche madness. No one had ever heard anything like it. The Beatles led, everybody else followed
John was a great poet, I still remember where I was and what I was doing when the news came on the radio that he was no longer with us. I am a Queenie and Brian May had a fever dream, out came the "Prophet's Song".- Thank you and I feel your Mom's pain ❣❣
Every component of this song is a masterful example of genius. Listen to the drum pattern. Who else besides Ringo would have come up with such an outstanding pattern. Perhaps that's why he was regarded as the best rock drummer in the world.
This song hits hard with me, I was bottled on The Beatles by my Mum and back in 2002 about 3 weeks before she died, she told me that this was the song she wanted playing at her funeral, the family went with another Beatles song and was wasn’t strong enough too fight for her wishes, to this day I’m still gutted about it.
Cliff, John and Paul had a rule: if they could still remember a song they started working on geeked out of their minds after passing out and sobering up, it was a winner. If they couldn’t, it went in the trash. Love ya, C.

Many fans mistakenly think they are hearing a harpsichord, but it’s George Martins genius to play on a piano and sped up the playback to give it that sound
Hugs to your mom sorry she lost her dog. My mother first brought home 2 Beatles records (this one & Beatles VI) when I was about 6. I didn't like them at first, but then I played them at 45 rpm (instead of 33) and they sounded like the Chipmunks, so then I started liking them afterwards... even at normal speed.

This was a John Lennon song. You should really check out his songs "Nowhere Man" and "Girl". "Rubber Soul" is one of those iconic albums in the history of popular music. This is the one that Lennon called the "Pot album" and you can really hear it in the contrast of their previous albums.. This was released on December 3, 1965 and in the same day they released a double A-side single "Day Tripper"/"We Can work It Out". Who does that? Especially in 1965. Both songs quickly shot to #1 on both the Billboard charts here in the US and also in the UK. Both are great songs and shows just how great they were. Their song "Yesterday" written by McCartney and was relegated to side two of their previous Lp "Help" released on August 6, 1965 and has gone on too be the most covered song in history with as of now has had over 2,200 artist that have recorded a cover of the song. Let that number sink in for a moment. McCartney actually dreamt the melody of the song one night. He thought he had to have heard it somewhere because you just don't dream things up like that. He hawked it around everywhere around to friends and people in the industry (and in 1965 he probably knew a lot of people) and no one had ever heard it before. Funny how genius can hit some people in odd moments. He was only 23 when he wrote this song. In late 1968 The Beatles were starting have a great deal of friction between them and one night his beloved mother "Mary" who died of breast cancer when he was just 14, came to him in a dream. He loved The Beatles and was very upset where things were heading. She appeared to him and told him you can't worry about everything and just have to "Let It Be". Lennon also has a few songs that came to him in his sleep. He said that with "Nowhere Man" he sat up in bed and made his way over to a piano and it was all there, both the melody and lyrics. That's almost spooky. Peace ❤
If we wanted to send something into space in the hope it would persuade someone out there that we are capable of transcendent things, this would be it.
Talking about the dog made me think that you would really enjoy Martha my dear if you haven’t listened to it. Paul wrote it for his dog and it’s even more beautiful knowing that.
Note when listening to 1960's stereo mixes. As they generally only had 4 tracks to mix, they had basically no choice but to pan some of the tracks hard left or hard right to create the stereo picture , otherwise it would sound very very similar to mono. and not have the stereo separation. However, vocals were normally in the centre, Rubber Soul was mixed a bit differently.
Rubber Soul is the album that catapulted the Beatles into a stratosphere all their own.... In My Life is a "John" song.... for a great "Paul" song from this album try "Drive My Car"
Paul McCartney is the 2nd wealthiest musician, and unlike the others on the list, his wealth came mainly from the 19th century when prices were a lot lower, no mtv, no internet, just them and record sales. Of course some of it came in the 20th century, but the majority of it came from their early work, before American Idol. Starting in a basement bar in Liverpool.

I’m excited for you starting off this journey with The Beatles… similar story as you with my dad, except it did click with me and I’ve been a devotee for 30 of my 35 years. Can’t wait to see more! Oh also, Edit: Keep in mind most of their music through their final album was recorded on four tracks…
You really need to check out the Beatles' "I Want You, She's So Heavy." Lead singer is John Lennon. It's a fantastic song. Another song I recommend is "Taxman." Lead singer is George Harrison. George hated paying taxes.

I just learned something new today.
"In My Life" inspired pop music producers to use harpsichords in their arrangements.
George Martin saw it and done it. Without him… a different story

I’m excited for you starting off this journey with The Beatles… similar story as you with my dad, except it did click with me and I’ve been a devotee for 30 of my 35 years. Can’t wait to see more!
Oh also, Edit:
Keep in mind most of their music through their final album was recorded on four tracks…
You really need to check out the Beatles' "I Want You, She's So Heavy." Lead singer is John Lennon. It's a fantastic song. Another song I recommend is "Taxman." Lead singer is George Harrison. George hated paying taxes.
Sean Connery did a speaking version of this and it's like a poem.. look it up
