Some People have a Good Taste in Music and some People don't. Sorry Gabe. It was The Beatles that change Music in America.
The Beatles changed THE WORLD not just The World of Music..lol
Boy oh boy...Something is one of the best songs ever written. Even Frank Sinatra, who hated the Beatles and wrote great love songs himself, says this is the best love song of all time.
Believe me, if you don't like the songs it's not the songs' fault, it's your fault. Train your hearing!!!
Uncredible!!!
The Beatles Something was covered by 238 artist ,including James Brown , Frank Sinatra , Joe Cocker ,Diana Ross , Neil Diamond .Willie Nelson ,Munich Symphonic Sound Orchestra ,and more.
Frank Sinatra wrongly credited the writer of the song saying it was the best Lennon and McCartney song. lol
And Elvis Presley
To play what was essentially a novelty song, a children's singalong song, practically a throwaway song, as someone's introduction to The Beatles is flat out one of the goofiest damn things I've ever heard of! Sheesh!
Agreed 😮
I agree that "Yellow submarine" would have been one of the last Beatles songs I would show someone who was unfamiliar with the Beatles, but "Something" is iconic. Was a #1 hit for the Beatles. How about some more songs off of the white album, like maybe Glass Onion, Happiness is a Warm Gun, or Sexy Sadie.
Peace
I wonder if Gabe has any romance in him at all. Gabe, when you meet that person (as George had when writing about Patti) you might understand this song.
My Sweet George ❤❤❤🎸🎸🎸🎸
This is one of the most beautiful love songs written. It was a big hit. Maybe performers covered it. I'm thinking Gabe is not a love song guy.
Geez Gabe, but top marks for being honest and not just going along with Nic (who has better taste) 😄
You should listen to the Eric Clapton and Paul McCartney version of this song from the Concert For George. Even Gabe couldn't find fault with that. It's stunning.
Also Here Comes The Sun is phenomenal
So Frank Sinatra says it's the greatest love song ever written and John Doe says ummm
Oh brotha lol. ‘Something’ is one of, if not thee, best song ever.
There are a few songs written by George (my guitar gently weeps). You should listen to them. There is a noticable difference between him and Lennon/McCartney numbers
he loved while my guitar gently weeps, strangely not this one
Frank Sinatra described it as one of the best love songs ever written
I added "the best" with some Poetic Licence:)
Didn't he say "written by Paul or John"? Even though it was George
This and While My Guitar Gentley Weeps are my 2 favorite Beatles songs. Also Here Comes the song is phenomenal
They didn't have many videos back then. I think the Beatles only had three or four. All we got was the brilliant songs (audio only)!
Sinatra covered this song he said it was his favorite Lennon McCartney song but it was written by George
He said this before he learned it was George song. Said it right everytime after. There is a pic of George and Pattie with Sinatra at a recording session.
Frank Sinatra called this the most romantic song ever written. I think he even covered it. The Beatles were revolutionary and changed the course of music forever.
Jeez Bro.
Wow, one of the best songs in music history, he doesn’t like it ! Okay, maybe he lacks the love for The Beatles that the fans have.
You are right. There's always one..
"Yellow Submarine" was an attempt to write a children's song.
I expect it was meant for John's son, Julian.
1968 was a tough year for little Julian.
Though his father had written a song about a drawing Julian had made about a school friend (1967's "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds", which are the very words Julian used to describe the drawing), his father suddenly walked out on him and his mother (which prompted Paul to write "Hey Jude" for him). Later in 1968, the Beatles released "Yellow Submarine", perhaps to make Julian feel a little better. But then, songs aren't always released in chronological order.
Paul and John both worked on the song, even other famous music friends contributed, but the song seemed to resist being written.
If you don't like children's songs, that's fine.

Yes, the blonde with the bun is Patty Boyd Harrison, and George wrote this for her. The release date was 1969. The next year George's best friend Eric Clapton wrote "Layla" for Patty. Then they show John with Yoko. Then they show Paul with Linda wrapped with him in his coat. Then there's Ringo twirling Maureen around.

There are a number of speculations about Ringo's eyebrow, usually told with full confidence by people who have no actual evidence or experience to draw from. Let's just say no one knows but Ringo and whoever he chooses to share that information with. Ignore the gossip.

Let me share something that might take some edge off the 'Paul is dead' conspiracy:
This is about the 'walrus' references.
I used to go down to a news stand that brought in periodicals from other countries. It was the only place I could find Beatles Monthly (aka The Beatles Monthly Book, a UK magazine published by the Official Beatles Fan Club, which had active involvement by the Beatles themselves). So, I used to collect these. One month, while the Beatles were busy filming "Magical Mystery Tour", Beatles Monthly held one of their frequent contests for readers/fans. The magazine had pictures of the Beatles working on the "I Am the Walrus" segment of the film, so the contest was "Spot the Beatle". The idea was to identify which Beatles was dressed up as which animal.
So, first there is this song, "I Am the Walrus" (another one of John's 'nonsense' lyrics songs), included on the 1967 album "Magical Mystery Tour".
Then, it gets referenced again on the 1968 White Album in the song "Glass Onion" (the lyric John sings is "Here's a clue for you all, the walrus was Paul").
There are reportings of things John said about this, what the first song meant and what the second song meant. One thing that comes up as an irritant for both Paul and John is how often people bug them about what their songs 'mean'. Paul and John can't grasp why people have to dig for hidden/deeper meaning in these songs they write, especially when John and Paul don't take their songs all that seriously themselves.
So, here's my theory:
John wrote a silly song for a silly movie they were making. Then people bugged him about the meaning. Then there came that weird 'replacement Paul' idiocy, and they looped in the walrus thing. So John trolled them by making a lyric about the walrus being Paul. (And when the contest in Beatles Monthly finished, the Walrus actually WAS John, who sang "I Am the Walrus; DUH).
Now you have to play Layal by Derek and the Dominos - a smashing song about the same woman. Frank SInatra thought Something was the greatest love song of the last 50 years
Also “Wonderful Tonight” i think
No Ringo did not have an accident. He has always had a gray streak in his hair near his forehead and on part of his eyebrow. It's just gray hair that has always been there since he was a teenager.
Don't Let Me Down, that'll change his mind I'm sure. Lol
Hey Guys, love your honesty on this. As a Beatles fan (2nd only to the Kinks for me), I agree with Gabe about Yellow Submarine, but not this one. On most albums, Ringo was given lead vocals, and for me, Yellow Submarine falls into the category of meh! Not great. This, however, classic Beatles sound. Keep up the friendly arguments, and Nick, Gareth isn't always wrong. Thanks for posting this, and keep doing what you're doing.
Let him listen to "Come Together" or "Don't Let Me Down" or "Oh! Darling" or "I Want You (She's So Heavy)".
George ❤🇮🇹🤘
You gave bad taste in music...sorry...! One of the best songs ever written. Millions maybe billions of people agree with me.
Frank Sinatra said it was the best written love song in years.
Woah woah woah.
Yellow Submarine is a good song.
It may not be their best.
John Lennon died in NYC in 1980. Gabe was born in 1980 and lived in NYC...
Hello, John Lennon was Murdered in New York by another American Nutjob. ☹️
People would buy an album when it came out if you were fans of that group , but there're not going to buy a 45 single or request it on the radio if the don't like that song When you judge a song ,you have to look at the time frame that it came out..That's not easy sometimes . Many times one needs to hear a song more than once . And even if you don't like a song It doesn't mean it's a bad song .How it does on the radio and in sales will determine that. Here is a fact about Breathers songs . Every Beatle song has been covered . People don't cover bad songs . As far as the Yellow Submarine song, it was for a Beatles cartoon and somewhat of a ships drinking song..I can see how many would not like it but it was covered from 1966 to 2020 , 88 times and in a number of countries . So let's call it a hit or miss song .not a bad or good song.
Try something grittier like the rooftop Don’t Let Me Down.
Prefer "SMELLS LIKE WHITE SPIRIT" by John Shuttleworth - (He made it into a song about cleaning out your brushes after painting - all his songs are a bit like that - "Can't go back to Savoury" is a gud n.)
The ol' switch-a-roo!
Oh and at 4 minutes 30 in I'm thinking "Gabe has to love it now, there's a guitar solo!" :D
Great stuff! Beautiful song, cheers guys!
my face at 6 minutes 30 in...
:O
Some people are just jealous lol. He has bad taste.😊
Listen to the full album Abbey Road
I agree that Yellow Submarine isn't a good song. It just isn't. But, Something is one of the greatest, ever. The interplay between George's guitar and Paul's bass is magic.
Sorry guy on the left..or as I like to call him..tasteless Tom, This IS a great song! You are just clueless 😞!
It's best to be honest Gabe or what's the point, i really don't like fake reactions, luvya ❤
Pretty obvious gabe is not a fan of the slower songs, or the early stuff. Fear not, theres tons of stuff to try, i want you, oh darling, get back, happiness is a warm gun etc etc
why are you making reference to the video it didn't exist at the time it was not released I thought you were giving reaction to the SONG
I am a big-time Beatles fan and agree that Yellow Submarine is not among their best.
It is a kid's song that I never liked, not even when I was a kid.
Written by George Harrison
I'm not a great fan of Yellow Submarine.
There ard probably around 30 songs of the Beatles that I am 50/50 on
However, the Beatles bad songs are some.bands good songs.
And the Beatles best are the best for a reason, there is no better artist
There's no point in reacting to isolated songs without context and without a sense of the band's development. You can only appreciate the Beatles fully by a systematic immersion in their catalogue. Obviously this applies to all artists with a long and storied history.
Gabe doesn’t like their shorter, earlier songs. He says they sound like jingles to him. 🙄🙄🙄
So, he doesn’t even realize how great a song this one is? 🤯😟😖
@@MsAppassionata Well, I kinda sorta agree with Gabe that the later music is more to my taste than the early stuff (the earliest Beatles song among my top favorites is "Things We Said Today"), but I've seen enough of these reactions to tell me that the Beatles just aren't for Gabe. It's torture to make him listen to the stuff, both for him and for viewers who love the Beatles. I LOVE his rants, but not on this subject!
@@PFNel Well, I disagree. Much of their earlier material already shows how clever and unique they were. The harmonies, the chord changes, the experimentation were there from the beginning. They didn’t sound like anyone else. You can certainly hear their influences, but they still did not sound like any of those artists. Do you realize how unusual that really is? Think about it: How many bands or individual performers sound completely unique and distinctive? Not many. That’s why those who are have our respect. It’s not as common as some people think.
@@MsAppassionata Good points.
Some one should tell him that hip hop and rap is crap and rubbish
Yellow Submarine is a cute oddity. It is not a particularly good song. I love the Beatles, but even they have had a few duds.
Id send cloth ears to liverpool to make his ignorant comments.
Please Gabe (and others), don't call 'Something' a ballad! It is a love song.
A ballad tells a story and is defined by the words, not by the style of music.
Gabe has no appreciation of historical context. He would listen to the earliest guitar music such as Robert Johnson and just simply say it's crap. You shouldn't judge older music just by today's standards. Instead try to understand the culture of society from all those years ago. Understand that a lot of the music by the Beatles was written while they were on drugs. World War II had devestated the western world for years and the Beatles gave people a reason to get up, dance and try new things. They used new technology and changed the way music was written. They changed the planet and the youth. Don't compare the Beatles to your Dr Dre or Jay Z. It was a different time!
Yes I agree, Yellow Submarine is awful. I’m a huge Beatles fan & know they have several bad songs.
These reactions really annoy me. Listening to anything for the first time is difficult. There’s a lot that gets missed the first time and songs can grow upon listening further. The Beatles story is impressive in order because they grew with each album. There’s a reason why they were universally loved. It’s a shame you can’t learn about them and why they are important as opposed to reacting to random songs from their catalogue. There’s no way any artist you like Gabe has the same story, skill or influence.
This guy is clueless when it comes to music
Bet the only time your reaction to female artists is if they cover a Beatles song
Too shrill..
They need some Joni, Patti Smith, PJ Harvey, Bjork, Kate Bush, Stevie Nicks.
@@Jan-xn3kz add Dusty Springfield, Tina Turner , Aretha Franklin ,
The boy with the blue skirt, dont know nothing about music.
The Beatles man, shout the mouth!
Honesty is fine. As a massive Beatles fan I have always skipped Yellow Submarine. However, this unappreciative reaction to Something almost feels like you are being contrary for contrary sake. I shan’t waste time outlining how painful the reaction was to watch. Perhaps the disagreement between you two is part of the “shtick” here but it’s not for me.
You need better best friends.
Is the guy on the left supposed to be some sort of comedian because every word that comes out of his mouth comes off as a joke
He is sooooo confused!!! Be careful you don't get contaminated.
