That's crazy, it looks exactly like Arizona. A trip that you can end up in that kind of terrain right near the beach. My kind of adventure. Nice tunes, Quincas Moreira makes a lot of good stuff.
It was within walking distance from Maspalomas where you have a video from (remember jumping in the Dunes?) .. On day 2 you go from the desert like Arizona terrain to mountainous and volcanic pine forests that look like Mars. Then the next thing you know you’re in a green cloud forest where it’s all misty and rainy and 40ish degrees. Quincas Moreira is a great artist to use haha.. I can use him in several continents.

Me impresiona muchísimo escuchar hablar a la gente de Canarias. La entonación es TAN parecida a la rioplatense, que es casi como estar escuchando un acento rioplatense. Hasta diría que es un uruguayo del interior si no supiera que la persona es Canaria jajaja. Se nota muchísimo la influencia que tuvo Canarias en el Río de la Plata.

Amazing video, Elliot. As a Canarian myself, I really enjoy watching people falling in love with Gran Canaria and with all the amazing things that it can offer. I recommend you to visit the Northwest-end of the Island (Moya, Guía, Gáldar, Agaete, etc.) since these towns are very rich in culture and history.

You are so blessed that you speak the language so well! I am really a bit jealous. I fell in love with the canary islands 20 years ago and have visited and explored all of them more or less except El Hierro. I love the fact that these little gems are only 3, maybe 4 hours away from continental europe, but feel and look like a totally different world/continent. You can hang out at the beaches all day, drink cocktails, eat hamburgers and pizza and the islands just feel like you are somewhere in greece, italy, the south of france, croatia or spain, but as soon as you pack your backpack and travel/walk/drive away from the tourist hotspots, into the centre of these really small islands you leave the touristic comfort zone and think you were "teleported" right into morocco, the mars, the grand canyon or the jungles of south america and you might die if you don´t have at least 5 litres of water in your backpack.

The Canary Islands are fascinating for me; they have everything you just mentioned plus with my channel I focus on the speaking world. They have such a unique mix of the Americas and Europe/peninsular Spain. I have my eyes set on La Palma next because I’m a fan of the green/tropical esque forests but I’d be happy with any of the islands :D

In all seriousness this was a more dangerous situation then you might imagine. Dehydration can cause dizziness and the brain to start functioning erratically. You were smart to travel with a friend, it gives you a better chance of survival in an emergency. Plan your routes better and prepare for your hikes better. It only takes one bad hike or getting lost to end badly. I'm glad those Grandmas showed up with help. I enjoyed the views, but nothing is worth your health. Take care my friend.
Yeah it was dangerous. I got to the point where I was just going to camp out in the shade on that road and wait for someone.. But we had a strict itinterary the following days and it would've ruined the trip. I just knew I needed to get to that village which was close enough. The thing is that I did bring a lot of water and food but it was much hotter and dryer that we expected. And as you see in my most recent vid, it's cold and wet on the same island.. It's crazy.

Great video as always Elliot. When you get to the sand dunes be careful as I got seriously lost there once when it was getting dark and it is easy to get disoriented there.

Aunque el sur de la isla también es precioso, a pesar de su aridez. Es impresionante como Gran Canaria cambia de tono totalmente en unos kilómetros, orgulloso de ser de aquí!!! Go to Barranco de las Vacas, es un sendero de rocas muy bonito, se parece al Cañon del Colorado jeje pero en pequeño, es algo complicado de llegar, lleva agua y de paso veo por donde es jajaja que no soy capaz de llegar. Grettings !!!

yes Elliot...dangerous situation.. when you go in places like these ...canyons, very dry and hot you have to be prepared with lots of water, energy drinks, vitamin bars etc....muy diferente que caminar en un bosque de Asturias por ejemplo....gracias a Dios aparecieron las 2 viejitas!! recuerda que queremos seguir viendo los videos del Aventurero ;) Aventurero si pero no demasiado... ;) cuidate
We brought 2.5 L of water and what happened is we took the wrong route! Big mistake.. But lesson learned. The unique thing about the Islands is that you change microclimates within hours and you'll see in the next videos just how different things became. More adventures to come. By the way, my girlfriend went to Milan a few weeks ago already, and she had a great time. Very expensive though! I would like to go to southern/Eastern Italy where it's a bit less traveled to. Elliot, no te informaste primero? Ten cuidado, para la próxima. Hay mucha gente de fuera, que se meten, en zonas que desconocen y no van equipados, luego tienen, que auxiliarlos, en helicoptero. Siempre, hay que llevar mucha AGUA,, el sur, es más caluroso, nada que ver, con el norte. Cuídense mucho.
Bueno, nos Informamos mucho pero habían dos flechas amarillas.. uno para la senda que elegimos y otra para Arteara.. entonces uno es más fácil con más paradas y pueblos.. entonces trajimos agua y comida pero equivocamos con la ruta. .. pero encontramos las abuelas canarias que nos salvaron jaja

"These guys are bonkers, this isn't going to end well" (luckily it did). Perdona, pero no investigaste una mierda, al menos haberte bajado el track de Wikiloc. Y de nuevo perdón por sonar borde, pero ha muerto gente haciendo senderismo en GC, porque subestiman, o/y no tienen experiencia. Aún siendo uno de los sitios más seguros para hacer senderismo, pues efectivamente siempre hay alguna carretera o pueblo relativamente cerca. Normalmente ese sendero si no eres un "maquina" como tu amigo, se hace al revés. Subes por la parte fresquita/verde de la isla, y bajas por la parte calurosa. Tuviste suerte de encontrarte con las señoras, y también de hacerlo en invierno.
Después de mi cabreo, agradecerte mucho que enseñes mi isla. Siempre es revelador ver a lo que estás acostumbrado desde los ojos de personas que nunca lo han visto. Espero con ansias el siguiente video. Espero que compraras mucha agua jajajaja .. no sé como vas a subir la cuesta después de la garbanzada jajaja
Hi Elliot. The Guanches are, in reality, the aborigines of Tenerife. It is assumed that etymologically the term comes from something like Wan-Achinech, meaning man from Tenerife. The ancient inhabitants of Gran Canaria were called canaries. They were, like all the aborigines of the different Canary Islands, of Berber, North African origin, although their genetic markers indicate that they were directly related to Berber groups that today live in Tunisia, and that at some point in the last 2000 years they were displaced from their original lands to the east, in what is now Morocco, to the east, by more powerful rival Berber groups. The presence of their genes in various areas of Latin America is explained by the fact that many were sent as slaves, after being defeated, to America. Others were forced to serve as stormtroopers in the wars that the Spanish fought in North Africa. Later, already in colonial times, many Canarians would be forced to emigrate for different reasons: 1) At the beginning there was a "family tax", by which the Spanish Crown obliged that for every 100 tons of merchandise that was sent from Canary Islands had to travel 5 families of 5 members each. 2) Many families emigrated due to extreme poverty, caused not so much by the aridity of the territory (in the north and east the land is humid and very fertile) but by the unfair and abusive system of distribution of land and water, which remained in hand of the "aguatenientes", descendants of the main Spanish captains. 3) At a certain point in history, until 1678, the islands were depopulated so quickly that these same nobles and powerful demanded that the metropolis prohibit emigration, fearful of being left without "vassals". 4) At the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th, many Canarians went to America, especially Cuba and Venezuela, fleeing local misery.
The current Canarian population is the result of a high percentage of Spaniards (especially Galicians and Andalusians), another almost equal of Portuguese (although many of these were nothing more than aboriginal Canarians returned from Madeira almost a century after being captured as slaves by the Portuguese , mainly for the cultivation of sugar cane, bringing their already Portuguese surnames with them), an approximate percentage of 10% of remaining aboriginal blood, a somewhat smaller percentage of blood from African slaves brought to the islands by the Spanish and considerable contributions of Jews (who found refuge during the massacres in Europe, because persecution was scarce here), merchants from Malta and Genoa, French, German, English or Irish
. Nowadays there are local surnames such as Betancor (French), Marrero (Italian), O'Shanahan (Irish), Jones (English), Winter (German) or many Portuguese (Almeida, Fleitas, Vieira, Viéitez, Silva, Arbelo, Curbelo, Ravelo, Guedes, etc). The Spanish conquerors, after the victory and subsequent massacres, subjected the natives to servitude, allowing them to continue inhabiting their land. They only granted the honor of keeping their last name (Guanarteme, Oramas, Guanche) to some local aboriginal chiefs: you know, the same old trick to please the pride of these people and to try to make them use their influence over the rest of their people and thus avoid rebellions.

That was so cool. I renewed and got my Admitada and then two days later it changed to excludio. But, that's fine. I did what I wanted to accomplish here in Spain and it was great. Did some traveling with family/friends, but unfortunately to places here I've been to before. I've aged out, but I'm ready for next chapter. 35 years of working child abuse cases as a social worker and attorney have caught up. I'm retiring and looks like I'll sell my home and join friends who have left LA and moved to Palm Springs. I'll spend the hottest months in Palm Springs in St. Croix with family who've retired there. Want to thank you for encouraging me to take the leap to move to Spain. I've enjoyed my time here as an Aux.

La población Canaria la mayoría desciende de gente de la península ibérica, España y Portugal, y mezclados con la població n escasa que se quedó o sobrevivió de los guanches pueblo de origen bereber no de Mauritania.
También hay muchos descendientes de Italianos, franceses, primeros conquistadores normandos , y posteriores soldados de Napoleón confinados en Canarias y muchos ingleses e irlandeses , que huyeron en el s.XVI -XVII de las persecuciones religiosas en Inglaterra.

@@LolyEspinosa bueno todavía no he visitado las Islas Canarias pero en el futuro lo haré, tengo muchas ganas de conocerlas. Vivo en Corfú que es una isla muy verde, aquí cae mucha lluvia en el invierno. Por eso me parece que Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura y Lanzarote son desérticas comparadas con mi isla que parece más a las Azores o Madeira.
@@_juan.joao_ No te voy a negar que el sur de Gran Canaria es una zona totalmente desértica, apenas llueve en todo el año (es más, han habido años en los que directamente no ha llovido) y entre Agosto y Septiembre el calor es una cosa exagerada, pero créeme cuando te digo que no toda la isla es así. Te sorprendería como cambia la piel de la isla de una vertiente a la otra. La vertiente sur es seguramente la que más habrás visto en las promociones de la isla porque es donde se centran las grandes infraestructuras turísticas, es lo único que se suele enseñar de la isla a los extranjeros, y como seguramente habrás notado, el sur parece, tal y como dijiste, una prolongación del Sáhara. Pero el norte? Uff, parece directamente que estas en otra isla. MUCHÍSIMO más húmedo y MUCHÍSIMO más verde. Es aquí donde vive la mayor parte de la población de la isla. Por si no me fueras a creer, te doy los nombres de algunos de los senderos más bonitos del norte de nuestra preciosa isla para que los busques y los veas con tus propios ojos:
-Barranco de los Cernícalos
-Barranco de Azuaje
-Los Tilos de Moya
-Tamadaba
-Toda la reserva natural del Nublo
-Barranco de la Virgen
-Barranco de Teror
-Reserva natural de El Brezal

Yeah In a way you’re right. Both of us met randomly and love adventures. Carlos has a super interesting personality and he’s well known in malaga but he’s a bit camera shy. He also likes the cat nip like Catman ;) I would love to bring Catman and TAG on adventures like this to do more collaborations but neither of them are interested in these types of adventures :(

@@AdventureElliot when hiking in a hot climate, you'll need at least half a liter of water per hour. So if getting from Maspalomas to Ayaguares took you about 4 hours, you would need at least 2 liters.
