Got the first one sold at Microcenter this morning at St. Davids. Going to mate it with QVL 8000Mt/s KLEVV DDR5, and MSI X870E CARBON MB. LETS ROCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
FYI, at DDR5-8000 you should have the FCLK at 2000MHz because in 2:1 mode that equals a 1:1 ratio between the memory controller and the infinity fabric. This way you get lower latency, so DDR5-8000 is quite a bit faster than DDR5-6000, unless it's not actually fully stable, because you also need quite a good motherboard to be able to run 8000. (To be clear, it's still not worth the extra $100-$150 for the DDR5-8000 kit)
Great video Jason it will become my new build for 2025. You have made it very easy to build a 9800x3d computer. I like the comparisons for various components and your honesty about what makes sense in a build w/o spending a fortune. Hi to Sarah and the Kitties
Jumping from an i7 - 6700k to this beast Ryzen 9800x3D and also from an GTX 980Ti to the 4070 Ti Super. Can't wait to retire my old build. Hope the new Cpu will get available soon.
Just a suggestion but it would be nice if you could show us the final build in total price of what you guys would have paid by a building each of these PCs with your own recommendations including total cost with taxes based on what websites you purchase the parts from. Just so we can get an idea of what the current cost is compared to what it might be in the future if I'm watching this video several months down the road.
My next build: 9950X3D. Asrock x870E Taichi. 32GB Gskill Flare X5. Rtx 5080. Seasonic Prime TX 1200. 990 Pro 2TB SSD. Noctua DH-15 Black. This will be a beast.
The GPU as the priority for a gaming PC yes! 1.3k minimum budget for a good experience gaming pc noooooo! Every month I release my "best builds" video and the first two are always under 1k and just at or over 1k. People with smaller budgets can still get an amazing pc build

Actually Jason since Zen4 the IF is decoupled, if you look at in-depth reviews the IF is double rate half width, nevermind the data transfer through the IOD. It simply isn't synchronous, DRAM has high burst rates but is slow changing cacheline. Buildzoid did an in-depth on Zen memory over-clocking and the key is to run the bottle neck memory controller as fast as it can reach stably. Some reviewers had great results tightening timings and pushing DRAM to 6400 improving 9700x performance greatly. The problem naturally is YMMV, other chips may simply not reach 6400.

Upgrading from 13700k in Gigabyte Aorus Elite AX DDR4. Planning on buying the new 8800XT when it's released but we'll see what it really is when it's out.
The X870 Pro RS has a really good price on it right now for anyone looking to step up from the 6XX series, and based on HW unboxed's x870(E) benchmark, stands relatively high in most tests compared to the 500$+ boards
If you like that board and can grab it, go for it. Only 2 audio capacitors for a $349 board isn't my favorite, though if you don't need the onboard audio it does have a lot of connectivity. X670E tomahawk on sale right now for $239 with very similar features.
@@PCBuilderChannel Can you tell more about having only 2 audio capacitors? I ordered that board myself too. How would having 2 audio capacitors affect the use compared to other boards with more capacitors? Very few reviews of that board and even fewer talk about stuff like that.

I bought this processor because it costs the same as the 7 7800X3D, but my graphics card is an RTX 4070 TI SUPER, is this combination wrong? I'm building my first PC and I want to know, well, I bought it because of the Ray Tracing and all that, and because I couldn't afford the 4080 onwards...
I saw! It's the minimum and it's fine, it works for me! :D So, I also have the cooler is the ARCTIC mentioned in the video The PC case is the one mentioned in the Lian Li video My motherboard is GIGABYTE B650 Gaming X AX V2 (180$ on amazon) Kingston NV2 1TB SSD (55$ on amazon) TEAMGROUP T-Create 32 GB DRR5 CL30 6000Mhz (88$) and CORSAIR RM750x 80 + Gold (90$) I only have doubts because in the video it recommends 850W, would it be a good idea to increase it? I also want to know if my configuration is the best and of course, I could change something if necessary, the truth is I'm new to this, it would literally be my first PC, because I've always played on console lol
I feel like it's worth mentioning the windforce v2 4080 super, has the gpu power connector on the back. Not only making it easier to connect, but also for a more cleaner look, compared to the side connectors. I didn't know this, untill i unboxed it just now.

Looking healthy bro 👍🏼 love what u do. I’m On my 3rd build now helping my dad out .Love your vids man keep going!
Thank you! So glad we can help and best wishes on the build!
It is waste of money. 6000-6400 at 1:1 with CL28-30 is the best.
@Dr.WhetFarts That is what I said at the end of my comment
@@Dr.WhetFarts "waste of money". Yeah, idk about that. Performance is better at 8400 than 6000 even with the 1:2 gear ratio
Great video Jason it will become my new build for 2025. You have made it very easy to build a 9800x3d computer. I like the comparisons for various components and your honesty about what makes sense in a build w/o spending a fortune. Hi to Sarah and the Kitties
Question: Do you think it's worth it switching from the 7800X3D to the 9800X3D with the 5090 in mind for the future?
Nah its like a 5% perfromance dif. Save your money for the $2000 5090 xD
@@scuffleshadow No problem. Will sell the 4090 soon.^^
I wouldn't personally unless you have maxed out the rest of your build and just have unlimited budget, in which case you do you! (:
definitely
Jumping from an i7 - 6700k to this beast Ryzen 9800x3D and also from an GTX 980Ti to the 4070 Ti Super. Can't wait to retire my old build. Hope the new Cpu will get available soon.
The goated Lancool 216 case at it again :)
Honestly I love that thing. There are some other great cases, but that is the best building experience period.
@@PCBuilderChannel Me too, only thing I'm unhappy about is the rear fan being non-ARGB but that's easily replacable
I also went the white Lian Li 216... WOW !! Great case. 🥰🥰
I have a 7800X3D paired with an RTX 4090, 96 gigs of RAM 6000mts cl34. I am upgrading the CPU tomorrow. 9800X3D here I come!
WOot!
are you really jason? I keep forgetting, glad youre reminding me every video.
I'm not sure, let me check . . . . . . WELCOME BACK TO PC BUILDER, I'M JASON!! . . . . yup that's me :)
Yes it will and a nice build.
Most helpful videos out there for this guy who hasn’t paid attention to gaming pcs for 12 years
So glad you're enjoying all the content. Thanks for watching!
My biggest take-away from this channel is that 1/2 of the budget goes to GPU and have a minimum of 1.3k bucks for gaming PCs.
The GPU as the priority for a gaming PC yes! 1.3k minimum budget for a good experience gaming pc noooooo! Every month I release my "best builds" video and the first two are always under 1k and just at or over 1k. People with smaller budgets can still get an amazing pc build
And to think that the RTX 5090 will account for a min of $2k in higher end builds 😔 (insane profit margins for NVDA)
@@MistaVauros Premium for the best, right? If not for this sort of profits, people wouldn't be motivated to become the best.
i've got x670e aorus master with 7800x3d and now just preordered 9800x3d can't wait to see the results with my rtx4090
exciting I heard the 16 core x3d is going to be the best for gaming tho which is insane even more performance on the table
thanks jason! with the upcoming 9800X3D, i waited a long for your video because i want to buy that new processor for my pc
Best wishes on the new build!! What do you plan to pair it with?
What are your pc specs?
5:40 Oh no, is there really no motherboard you can buy out in 2024 that can avoid a mandatory bios update before use? I'm a semi new builder and kinda wanted to avoid that if I could for buying a 9800X3D
Not right now, but B850 Motherboards will be coming and I'm guessing those will work out of the box with the 9800X3D.
Im building this exact build, Im copying it! Thank you
Happy to help! I think you will love it
@@PCBuilderChannel I just went to micro center and made the purchase!!
There's no gaming benefit to using faster SSDs until you need to download 120GB game..
there is........ games like battlefield gives you a way bigger advantage when downloaded on a ssd, you load in wayyyyyy faster on ssd the game runs smoother on ssd fps is better compaired with hardrive its just ssd based
@@namgamer1236 gta 5 also insane how long it loads on an HDD

Was waiting for your video man. Cool cool cool!
Can it run Monster Hunter Wilds?
Yes
Im doing a new build around the 9800x3D as as always you have outdone yourself, alll the info i needed right here in the video. 10/10 channel.
You're looking good sir! can't wait for your 500k subs! will be really well deserved
I'm still rocking my 5800x3D bought it when I saw your videos before.
I just order my new pc.. got the amd 7 9800x3D and 4080 super. This is after playing on a MSI katana laptop 🤣. Can’t wait for it to arrive!
That will be a huge upgrade.
Wow, i'm a pc builder myself since the earyly 2000s and i didn't know this channel, shame on me!
Glad you found us! (:
Your advice is Aways Highly valuable Jason! Thx Much for this Video!
So glad it was helpful!
i got a similar build ordered 3 days ago, my last rig have now 5 years, the jump should be insane: ryzen9800x3d, the same ROG motherboard you showed, ROG Thor 1200, TRident X Z5 6000 mhz 64 gb, SSD samsung pro 4 tb, ASUS riujin III AIO, and the crazy part, Corsair OBSIDIAN 1000D case to build a second mini machine later. WIll keep my 3080TI and upgrade to 5090 as soon as it comes out. can't wait. only problem: the CPU will be delivered after christmas. anywhow, AMAZING video, just discovered the channel!
Awesome! Best wishes on the build and so glad you found us! Hope you keep enjoying the content.
You never disappoint. The best reviewer for the average joe that needs some advise and education on this subject. Not even close.
Thank you! So glad its helpful and really appreciate the feedback
Good morning Jason /Mrs. Jason, Crew and Kitties! . . . . this is my new cpu (9800x3d) for my retirement build!! just gotta wait for the upcoming gpu's . . . i'm sure it will smoke my 2018 3900x 😆

Reviews of the 9800X3D are glowing. What we don't yet know are availability and actual pricing.
Yep! The MSRP pricing we know the availably is rough right now so you will see scalpers trying to sell it for crazy prices for a while
9800X3D looks great. Not an upgrade from 7800X3D levels of great, naturally =P but fills me with hope for the 11800X3D.
Yes it's at least a worthy successor, and we've had a shortage of that lately in the PC space!
What do you mean? Compared to 5800X3D vs 7800X3D uplift?
I got a b650 tomahawk. Great board. Ill wait for the 9800 to drop in price.
Your content is top notch - love the great focus on finding optimal value to performance. I also Walt’s enjoy that you include your feline build companion in the video 🐈
Thank you! So glad you are enjoying
Upgrading my build for Christmas, just got the 9800X3D to go with the MSI X870E Carbon Wifi Mobo,
GSkill Neo 6000MHZ CL30 64GB kit and my MSI Suprim 4090.
Should be a sweet Xmas.
Nice! Best wishes on the upgrade!
This content is way better and more useful than Linus crap. Keep up the good work!
I have a 9800x3d coming in the mail and I bought an ASUS TUF x670e for about $5 more than the b650e-f. It doesn't have quite as nice RGB but it has PCIe 5.0 and the same power phase as the mag b650 tomahawk wifi. I'm very excited to put it together this weekend and upgrade from my i5-9600K!
Exciting! Let us know how its goes!
Can’t wait until my 9800x3d will be delivered. Will change my 7800x3d but stay on x670e MSI tomahawk WiFi board but will also switch my ram from 32 to 64 XPG Adata ddr5 6000. As for Video it still will be 4070super. Thanks for a great and informative video! Like and best wishes as always 👍🏻🙏🏻
So glad to help!
Solid advice as always. Great recommendations for PC builders.
Thanks, I'm glad you found the build helpful!
Just ordered 9800X3d for $459 from Amazon. Pairing with Gigabyte X870E AORUS Elite & 32GB of TEAMGROUP CL30 DDR5. For now I'm keeping my Gigabyte 4070.
Finally upgrading from a 7700K and 2 980Ti's. I'm waiting for the next gen GPU's until I decide on which GPU to use.
I've been eyeing that 870e phantom nova board. It seems like amazing price to performance. It's sold out everywhere though.
Just build this 9800X3D to play 1440p MHW Wild!
- Ryzen 7 9800X3D
- MSI X670E Tomahawk
- Kingston 2x16GB EXPO ARGB 5600MHZ CL 36
- Kingston 1TB PCIE Gen 4 Speed 6000
- RTX 4070 TI Super
- Case MSI Monster Hunter MPG Gungnir 300
- Liquid Cooler MSI Monster Hunter E360
- PSU MSI A750GL
couldnt be more satisfied with this build!
Hopefully it can be future proof for the upcoming GPU in 2025! :D
Yes the build should be good. If you can I would buy cl30 or cl28 ram and a bigger ssd.
As someone who is deciding whether to try my first PC build or go with a Maingear MG-1, I like how you explain picking components and show us various options. Thanks for a very informative video.
Happy to help! Building a pc is a really cool experience and you can check out our "how to build a pc" video if that's helpful. And I recommend checking out our "Best Prebuilt Gaming PC 2024" video if you are considering going that route.
Ryzen 7 9800X3D and RTX5090 ftw!
Yup
Thank you, very good video. I will get 9800x3d.
Happy to help!
Thanks for your guide, i shopped some parts and really are happy since my build is almost like your build (with minor changes for the cooler and the x870 elite motherboard (it was a deal which was 10 bucks more then the b650) im super stoked to see my maschine running and im awaiting my parts everyday now :D
Amazing! So glad we could help!
9800x3d already bought. But will be paired with a 5090. So have to wait to build. For now I have in mind as well: Asrock x870e Nova, 6000mhz DDR5 gskill CL30 32 GB, SN850X (1x 4TB and 1x 2TB), 1200W Seasonic Vertex PX, Noctua NH-12a. Don't want to upgrade for 5 years after this. Running fully watercooled system now, 3080 + 5900X
hmm for the ram i got only CL 38 in switzerland, i dont finde the CL 30. Is this a problem or can i take the CL38 ?
Cl38 is slower then cl30 or cl28. Buy the ram online if you can't find it anywhere in Switzerland.
Hair is lookin good man 👍🏻
Thank you ( ;
Hey Jason.
Could you do like a quick recomendation on a future video, on portable cases? Like small ones, or some with handles or somethin. As a truck driver I want to have it with me to game while wait at unloads and stuff like that, and when I come home I'll do some video editing of the videos I get from the road, so the case is very important for me.
Thanks for all your hard work and, always, great insights and recomendations.
The jonsbo z20 or the deepcool ch160. There are many more cases. Look up lunchbox cases to see what you want.
Fist time viewer. Was looking for inspo building a new rig. Might just get your premium set up and call it a day. 😅
Wicked I will take it!
I managed to snag a 9800X3D today, upgrading from a Ryzen 9 3600x with a 3090.
Can I expect a big difference in performance? Gone for an X870e Taichi motherboard too…
Yes that will be a huge gain in performance.
Great! All the parts bought except 9800x3d out of stock!!
So, I also have the cooler is the ARCTIC mentioned in the video
The PC case is the one mentioned in the Lian Li video
My motherboard is GIGABYTE B650 Gaming X AX V2 (180$ on amazon)
Kingston NV2 1TB SSD (55$ on amazon)
TEAMGROUP T-Create 32 GB DRR5 CL30 6000Mhz (88$)
and CORSAIR RM750x 80 + Gold (90$)
I only have doubts because in the video it recommends 850W, would it be a good idea to increase it? I also want to know if my configuration is the best and of course, I could change something if necessary, the truth is I'm new to this, it would literally be my first PC, because I've always played on console lol
the 4070 is just wrong in general.
Yes the 4070 Ti Super is perfectly fine here if you care about Ray Tracing.
That’s a fine combo
Same here I have 4070 super but it's 12gb 😅 was thinking of pairing it with 7800x3d which I can't find atm so I am gonna go for 9800x3d
I feel like it's worth mentioning the windforce v2 4080 super, has the gpu power connector on the back. Not only making it easier to connect, but also for a more cleaner look, compared to the side connectors. I didn't know this, untill i unboxed it just now.
Bought the 9800x3d running on a asrock x870e tachi. Now i only need the 5090 to run the pimax crystal light on 120hz full res.
the best cpu builder advice
So glad you enjoyed! Thanks for watching
Currently I have my 7800x3d paired with 4080 super definitely budget wise I’ll stick to it but I’ll love to experience the 9800x3d

So i will be GPU limited, plan is gaming at 1440p, dont care about 4k. Oh yeah pricy, yeah but i haven't upgraded my old pc in 4 years. So it's time for a new, was hoping for both new GPU/CPU to release this fall like the last times but nope.
@@Arcadiezdo you already have these parts.
If not switch the RAM to 6000 CL30 which Jason recommends, and Jason says Gen 5 SSDs aren't worth it.
@@kelley09162 already have it, can always reduce it to 6000mhz, but gamermeld said that actually 8000mhz+ might be better.
amd cpus have always wanted high ram speeds. So once you get at 8000mhz and above you tend to overcome the 2 to 1 ratio.
i wanted the 32 gig kit which had a better CL, but wasn't back in stock until end of this month.
I wanted everything to be PCI 5.0 ready/compatible. I hope when the GPU comes out, that it might some sort performance benafit. But idk.
