I will still be rocking my ASRock B650 Steel Legend. I got it at launch for $ 178. It is actually a 650E as it supports Pcle 5,Insane Vrams with high-end audio with 10 connectivity slots, you can not find this motherboard anywhere now,not in the U.S. anyway
If I look at the AM5 motherboards, I cry and I remember buying in April 2019 my current ASRock B450 HDV 4.0 for $59.99. During next week I will replace my Ryzen 2 2200G; 16GB (3000MHz) with a Ryzen 5 5600GT; 32GB (3200MHz) and I intend to keep the motherboard at least till 2030. I'm a collector! I have all Windows releases from 1.04 (1987) to 11 Pro (now) in a VM and the same is true for all Ubuntu LTS Releases from 6.06 LTS to 24.04 LTS plus 4.10 (the first); 5.04 (my first) and 24.10 the 20 years remembrance version :) :).

Im trying to figure out which will allow me to get the best display and performance what would you recommend? thanks in advance, great videos!
Just built a new system with the 9800x3d. I initially ordered a MSI X670E Tomhawk but then sent it back and got the MSI X870 Tomahawk instead for 30$ more. Several reasons why x870 VS x670e :1) the x870 is newer, possibly longer term support ; 2) more usb ports total; 3) pci quick release for GPU - this alone is worth 30usd if you've ever been really frustrated to get the old gpu out of there; 4) usb 4 ; 5) wifi 7; 6) newer audio I would say to people looking at getting a new motherboard sure maybe there is no one key feature in x870 that alone justifies it over a x670 or similar but as a whole it could make all the difference.

Unfortunately either way you'll be Bottlenecked. So no matter what you chose hopefully you'll be able to upgrade other parts soon. You could also go 5700X3D on the CPU so save a little vs going for the 7600X3D Bundle.
In a “best” video I am surprised the nova phantom x870e and the asrock taichi x870e. Yea they are pricey, but not crazy like asus. But the design of the no compromise slots where they aren’t stealing bandwidth from the gpu is amazing!
for me went with x870 as the b650 cost same if not more than the x870 at least i get usb 4 and newer model, retailers sees people buy old boards and they price it higher just do your research before buying
Hey, I was wondering if you think its not worth the money I save buying the 7700x microcenter bundle that comes with the Gigabyte B650 Gaming X AX v2? My build is gonna have a 7900xt and Ive heard some people say that my lower tier motherboard will be bad for my build. What are thoughts? Id just like to save a little bit of money
No that's a totally fine Motherboard, but just note the 9700X Bundle is only $30 more I'd get that instead. Unless you're just using it for Gaming then I'd say get the 7600X3D Bundle.
Everyone said to wait 😂 Good thing I didn't listen and decided to buy during the 15 percent flash sale from new egg. The best deals are in September. I purchased a 4070 ti super with an i9 14900k prebuilt pc for 1500. I then build one from new egg with a 7900 xtx build and it cost less that the 4070 tI super by 100 and had better ram with 3 tb storage. And way better looking. My experience, buy during September. Don't hold. Even during that month all GPUs and boards were on sale.
Am I just used to laptops? I just finished a Project Zero B650 7600X 7800XT build this week. I love the system except the startup time. I get no signal for like 45 seconds before the mobo lights blink and the PZ logo pops and the Windows wheel starts spinning. With any new build, frequent restarts happened due to tuning which felt like it took hours longer than it needed to. Is quick startup a laptop only thing? Between work and home, this is the first desktop I've used in over a decade. This is my first desktop on SSD if that says anything. But my basic 2022 laptop is practically at Wlogin by the time the screen is opened. I looked for options in bios and Windows but didnt find anything. Pretty annoying.
I always like these episodes on fundamental things a lot, and this channel always remains a fundamental reference for us who love personal computers. 🤗
Got a 9700X and an ASUS ROG STRIX B650E-I. Paired with a XFX Merc 7900XTX, this system absolutely blows away my older 5800x3D+ 3090 setup. I might upgrade to 9800x3D but I haven't seen a decent ITX board to go with it, except for that insanely overpriced ASUS X870 board. One thing that bugs me to no end is that the GPU is outrageously huge (343 mm length) so I had to go back to my older NR200 case as it wouldn't fit my NZXT H1 v2 or pretty much any other mini ITX board out there. I'm seriously thinking of selling the 7900XTX for a smaller card.
Gigabyte has a X870 ITX Board but it's White/Silver and currently out of stock. Also just note the Sapphire Pulse 7900XTX is 313mm in length so that one would fit in more Cases.
Both the CPU and GPU are older than I would keep honestly. Its time for an entirely new build, it will be more cost effective then trying to upgrade your current system. Check out our Best Budget Gaming PC 2024 video for some whole new builds options that would be better for you
Thank you so much for making such a video. I was just looking for a similar Video on youtube and your video poped up. Really Thank you and God Bless you
I'm about to purchase a desktop intel i7 14700k,32gb ddr5 4800 and i tb ssd.All that in h610m h gigabyte motherboard. Could you suggest a GPU, that does NOT bottleneck my cpu if i need two 4k monitors?
I do not recommend this at all. That's a terrible motherboard for a 14700k first of all, and I can't recommend 13th and 14th gen intel cpus right now due to the degradation issues. Is this a prebuilt? Please go watch our Best Prebuilt Gaming PC 2024 video before you spend money on this
I'm still waiting on my 9800X3d and I've been looking at the X870 Tomahawk and the X670E Tomahawk because a lot of redditors and youtubers seem to agree that it's a good board, if only a bit expensive which isn't an issue. If I'm not worried about cost, wouldn't it still be worth it to get a mobo that has the PCIe 5.0 slot if I'm already planning on getting the new 50 series card?
Any thoughts on the B650 steel legend (I know you mentioned not loving the x870)? I find them in stock at 180 from time to time, but not sure how it stacks up to the tomahawk
Hey Jason, I wanted your thoughts on monitors. I really like curved monitors 1440 p and also 240 Hz. I have a samsung odyssey g7 and the msi 1440 p 165 monitor you recommended a year ago. I want to replace one with a oled but specifically curved with 1440 p and prefer 240 Hz. I narrowed it down to these 2 unless you recommend something else. Would love your thoughts lg 34gs95qe-b vs msi mpg 341cqpx I have a 4080 and a 14900 K, wish I had 7800 X3D but yeah. I play both competive games and graphic intensive games. Will still use monitor on the side. Also love your content. Thanks for all you do for us.

whats the final answer for the b650 steel legend wifi, does it have pcie 5.0 and they misspelled the manual? or does it not have it and every store just put it on their page because of miscommunication?
What do you think about the MSI X670E MAG Tomahawk WiFi with a 7950x3d ? Micro center is having a bundle and I want to know if these actually work well together, let me know your thoughts thanks! Thanks for the perfectly timed video!
@ thank you I appreciate it! Yeah I’m going to be using blender, doing video editing and trying my hand at some game design so I wanted something that could do all that plus enjoy some gaming on my off time
Good board! Upgraded audio. Premium board just overpriced. If you find it at a good price go for it. MSI Tomahawk is cheaper right now and just as good in my opinion
Ok have a question to see if people can help me out here. My current build is a 3800x, rx 5700xt and 16gb of ram. I'm thinking of upgrading rn to a 5700x3d and 7900 gre with 32gbs ram but I could instead get a laptop (zen4 r7 and rx 7700 xt mobile) and then upgrade later, how much would tariffs impact me in the US? Would it be smarter to do my upgrades now and wait until deals come back later into next year for a laptop, or do the opposite?
For my pc I first bought a cheap b550 micro-atx it kinda broke so now I got an atx a little more expensive, hopefully I won't need to upgrade for a long time
Wished you also included Laptops/Mac's sometimes 🙃 Choices and costs are all over the place ... dont know what to pick anymore ... Lenovo, Apple MacBook's, Acer, Samsung, Chromebooks, oled screens or LCD, 13 inch or 16 inch, go with 8GB Ram or upgrade to 16GB, battery life ... its crazy town 🤠😅

I decided to be a little dumb and grab a X670E board instead of a more reasonable chipset. I got the Asrock X670E Pro RS because it had more than 4 SATA ports (I have 5 SATA drives still) and it also happened to be literally the cheapest X670E board available. It cost me 240€ at the time which was about the same price as an expensive B650 board and I figured since basically every X670 motherboard has good VRMs unlike some other generations and the cheaper B650 boards can vary, I figured it'd be a decent option that's still expensive, but not horribly expensive and gives me everything I need. I am gambling a little bit on the PCIE5 slot being useful in the future, but I figured this would set me up for the next 6 years at least in terms of support for anything. Time will tell, it's always a bit of a gamble. I don't use the onboard audio, so I don't mind too much that it doesn't have a great codec and the wifi chip is easily accessible for any future upgrades or if something goes wrong with it.
You need to differentiate the M.2 to the CPU vs through the (overloaded) chipset. Direct to the CPU gives 4 dedicated PCIe lanes per drive. Via the chipset makes umpteen devices share 4 lanes.
I want 4k 240 fps capable on my next PC in games like space Marine 2 just waiting for possible new LG tvs or Sony to make a giant gaming tv with 240hrtz
Would love to see a bit more focus on Mini-ITX, as a lot of us are space constrained. On the Mini ITX front why not put a mention out to the ASROCK A620i Lightning Wifi - Thats on for $119.99 at Newegg. Sure you lack the ability to overclock, however in a Mini PC setup your often cooling restrained anyway so Overclock is likely not much of an option anyway. whichever way you cut it its nearly half the price of your recommended M-ITX board, thats a big saving.
I personally wouldn't recommend a board that doesn't allow for PBO even in a Mini ITX. See our Mini ITX build guide on the channel for more. But to each their own of course!
i dont understand one part: i really struggle finding motherboards that have headers for usb 3.2 AND USB type c below like 150. even though most modern cases have one or more normal type A USB 3.2 sockets and at least 1 usb type c. it makes it really difficult to build budget pc's in these cases
Hey there! I'm not 100% sure but I believe that is related to your NVIDIA GPU. It's a sign something isn't running properly, but hard to say if it is impacting your system performance. Might want to post a troubleshooting post in the r/buildapc reddit.
I bought the eagle AX and it arrived yesterday but you've convinced me to just pay the extra 40 bucks to go to a tomahawk. I splurged on my 7800x3d cpu and will buy AMD's top end gpu, I shouldn't I'm exchanging it rn.
@ I bought it two months ago before the 9800 was announced so it’s outside the return window. Also, the 9800 is out of stock everywhere. Not worth the trouble I’m good with the 7800
@ i missed when it was SUPER discounted down at like 350 but I got it for 419, I’m pretty happy with that. It’s a great chip. But I haven’t built yet since I’m waiting on the new gpus
@@RCunderscore yeah i picked up a couple of items..laptop is starting to go at 5.5 years..just need the oled screen..mb and im going to let the hype die down for 9800xd..amd usually like to discount it after a while..if it gets down to 420 that be a decent price..and yeah im looking for AMD as well..UNLESS..Nividia say brings us a 5070 within 10% of a 4090 at least 16gb and preferably a 256 bus..if they do that for like 550-650..and its better than the AMD..then yeah okay..pretty sure theyre gonna offer shitty products again though..historallically the 70 should be close to the top sku from last gen..so it should be that way..

In a “best” video I am surprised the nova phantom x870e and the asrock taichi x870e. Yea they are pricey, but not crazy like asus. But the design of the no compromise slots where they aren’t stealing bandwidth from the gpu is amazing!
Is the b650e Taichi worth getting for $265? Is there any other mother boards that compare to the taichi for less money?
I don't think so because you can find X870 Motherboards for that price or you can go regular B650 for less.
@@kelley09162alright, thanks for letting me know.
for me went with x870 as the b650 cost same if not more than the x870 at least i get usb 4 and newer model, retailers sees people buy old boards and they price it higher just do your research before buying
I was anticipating the “stop buying bad…” Jason.
How could you disappoint me? 😂
You know, I was just saying I regret not doing that here lol. I'll do better next time (;
You don’t recommend buying a 5900x, but, if I have one laying around are these boards still good?
Yes still good
Oh yes totally!
Don't hold. Even during that month all GPUs and boards were on sale.
msib650m had 4 boards all had problems with customer builds so upgraded all of them.
Got that arous x870 ice. Its so beautiful
does it matter which brand b550 i get to pair with a ryzen 5600?
It shouldn't matter that much
Am I just used to laptops?
Curious about the ROG STRIX X870-I as an am5 option for mini-itx
Can’t find many reviews on it
Considering the price it's not worth it in my opinion
Also just note the Sapphire Pulse 7900XTX is 313mm in length so that one would fit in more Cases.
i have intel 8700 and gtx 1060, should i upgrade the cpu, mb, ram first or gpu (7900gre/7800xt) first? thankyou
Both the CPU and GPU are older than I would keep honestly. Its time for an entirely new build, it will be more cost effective then trying to upgrade your current system. Check out our Best Budget Gaming PC 2024 video for some whole new builds options that would be better for you
okay, noted! thankyou for the info 😊
How did you not mention the Gigabye B650E Stealth? it’s the most beautiful board right now
Thank you so much for making such a video. I was just looking for a similar Video on youtube and your video poped up. Really Thank you and God Bless you
No problem! Good luck on your build!
Please go watch our Best Prebuilt Gaming PC 2024 video before you spend money on this
@PCBuilderChannel Thank Note:I am not a gamer,i am a trader.
A terrible combo is still a terrible combo and degradation will effect you either way
I'm still waiting on my 9800X3d and I've been looking at the X870 Tomahawk and the X670E Tomahawk because a lot of redditors and youtubers seem to agree that it's a good board, if only a bit expensive which isn't an issue. If I'm not worried about cost, wouldn't it still be worth it to get a mobo that has the PCIe 5.0 slot if I'm already planning on getting the new 50 series card?
The X870 Tomahawk should be good in that's what you want, and the price isn't terrible.
*Can you recommend Motherboards that have the Wi-fi 7 standard? This is all old tech man.* 😅
X870 Motherboards come with Wi-Fi 7 if that's what you want.
Any thoughts on the B650 steel legend (I know you mentioned not loving the x870)? I find them in stock at 180 from time to time, but not sure how it stacks up to the tomahawk
Great board, personally I prefer the Tomahawk due to audio and rear panel but its solid if you like the look and don't mind the difference
Would love your thoughts
lg 34gs95qe-b vs msi mpg 341cqpx
I have a 4080 and a 14900 K, wish I had 7800 X3D but yeah. I play both competive games and graphic intensive games. Will still use monitor on the side.
Also love your content. Thanks for all you do for us.
The MSI has good reviews so I would choose that
You should check out our Best 1440p Gaming Monitor video! We cover our thoughts on OLED there and I just finished updating the recommendation links in the description for sales. Look for the ones marked with a fire emoji.
whats the final answer for the b650 steel legend wifi, does it have pcie 5.0 and they misspelled the manual? or does it not have it and every store just put it on their page because of miscommunication?
What do you think about the MSI X670E MAG Tomahawk WiFi with a 7950x3d ?
Micro center is having a bundle and I want to know if these actually work well together, let me know your thoughts thanks! Thanks for the perfectly timed video!
Yes good combo though Jason prefers the 7800X3D or 9800X3D to the 7950X3D.
@ thank you I appreciate it! Yeah I’m going to be using blender, doing video editing and trying my hand at some game design so I wanted something that could do all that plus enjoy some gaming on my off time
@@Mr.universe219 oh that's fair. It's too bad they don't have a 9900X Bundle.
What about the asrock steel legend b650
what do you think of aero g b650
Good board! Upgraded audio. Premium board just overpriced. If you find it at a good price go for it. MSI Tomahawk is cheaper right now and just as good in my opinion
surprised to not see the asrock B650M HDV/M.2 on this list as its $99 sale rn for M-ATX board. seems to be a great option
why would that surprise you? this guy hates asrock he always leaves them off all his lists
@@chattifactorynot ALWAYS. At 14:00 he recommended the ASRock B650M Pro.
is a gigabyte b650 gaming x ax v2 good for a ryzen 5 7600x?
yes its fine its just overpriced compared to our picks. But if you find it on a good deal its comparable to the midrange picks here
@@PCBuilderChannel found one for £120 on amazon
Ok have a question to see if people can help me out here. My current build is a 3800x, rx 5700xt and 16gb of ram. I'm thinking of upgrading rn to a 5700x3d and 7900 gre with 32gbs ram but I could instead get a laptop (zen4 r7 and rx 7700 xt mobile) and then upgrade later, how much would tariffs impact me in the US? Would it be smarter to do my upgrades now and wait until deals come back later into next year for a laptop, or do the opposite?
For my pc I first bought a cheap b550 micro-atx it kinda broke so now I got an atx a little more expensive, hopefully I won't need to upgrade for a long time
Wished you also included Laptops/Mac's sometimes 🙃
Choices and costs are all over the place ... dont know what to pick anymore ... Lenovo, Apple MacBook's, Acer, Samsung, Chromebooks, oled screens or LCD, 13 inch or 16 inch, go with 8GB Ram or upgrade to 16GB, battery life ... its crazy town 🤠😅

@@PCBuilderChannel "Best Gaming Laptop 2024" ... i've must have missed that one 🤔 Thx, i'll check it out!
For perspective, every other X670E besides the PG lightning (270€) and MSI gaming (230€) boards were over 300 or 400 euros.
Mini itx boards for intel 12 to 14gen,am5 were pricy and so thats why i went B550 amd but there also not much to choose and scarce.got asrock am4
this guy timing so great
Are b650e worth it?
Check out the chipset section of the video!
You need to differentiate the M.2 to the CPU vs through the (overloaded) chipset.
Direct to the CPU gives 4 dedicated PCIe lanes per drive.
Via the chipset makes umpteen devices share 4 lanes.
im going with the B650E PG RIPTIDE with the 9800x3d hopefully it works
Fine board! For the price its not competitive with the premium boards I recommend here but if you've found it at a great price thats fine.
I want 4k 240 fps capable on my next PC in games like space Marine 2 just waiting for possible new LG tvs or Sony to make a giant gaming tv with 240hrtz
LETS GOOOOOOOOO thanks ffor the best ryzen boards

How about b650m?
can you help me to build a micro atx pc gaming with amd ryzen 7 9800x3d? (1500$ budget)
Check out our 9800X3D build guide!
I really want an asrock b650m pro rs wifi is my favorite budget b650 motherboard... We don't want to spend a lot of money on this banger.

Recommend getting a new GPU now because of Sales or wait out for RTX 5000 and RX 8000
Really depends on you! See our Black Friday GPU Prices video we go over out thoughts on this in detail there
i dont understand one part: i really struggle finding motherboards that have headers for usb 3.2 AND USB type c below like 150. even though most modern cases have one or more normal type A USB 3.2 sockets and at least 1 usb type c. it makes it really difficult to build budget pc's in these cases
Let’s gooo!

Hey there! I'm not 100% sure but I believe that is related to your NVIDIA GPU. It's a sign something isn't running properly, but hard to say if it is impacting your system performance. Might want to post a troubleshooting post in the r/buildapc reddit.

@kelley09162 sorry, for gaming.
