    What GPU would you pair with the 7800X3D? Are you doing a build or recently finished one? Tell your story in a new comment below!

      The sweet spot would be the 7900xtx, but the 4090rtx would maximize the system. Most ppl are waiting out till 5000rtx series and 9000amd series. What do you recommend to cool down the 7800X3d. I've heard air to 240 aio is all it needs.

      I paired it with the 7800XT for 240fps 1080p gaming. I finished my build a month ago. I would have paired it with the 7900XTX and gone for 2K instead, but that wasn't in the budget. Had to prioritize other things like getting an SSD for my OS finally, going for more RAM after upgrading from Vegas Pro 16 to 21 and finding I could suddenly make use of more RAM. Jumping to AM5 was a huge cost as well. Love these videos btw.

      I'm going to be building my first pc, hopefully soon, with the 7800x3d. Will be going with the 7900 GRE as the price of a 7900xt in white is 200+£ more. Will also be going with the Asrock b650 for motherboard, all encased in a Lian Li 216

      I built 2 "portable" HTPC's with the 7800X3D. 1 with a 7900XTX and one with a 4070. When I travel, I take the 7900XTX. That way I can have a full up PC to travel with, without the limits of a laptop. All my streaming services are in there so I don't have to log in with my password to the hotel's streaming services. Sure a laptop can offer some of the same and is a bit more convenient on portability, but I like my portable full up PC that fits in a backpack. Speakers, game controllers, mouse/10 keyboard and 4K monitor.

    Great video as always. I finished my 7800X3D 7900XTX build a few months ago and I would say the no boot drive advice is not good. Having your OS separate from your files and apps is much better than having to format the entire drive if nothing is separate, which I had to not too long ago when Windows 11 started blue screening out of nowhere with random error codes every time. I could not fix it without formatting as every option, like repair or reset etc would just blue screen.
    Fortunately I still had my old pc with all of the data I needed on it, but this still meant I had to reinstall all the apps.
    If I had to start over I would get a separate OS drive for peace of mind. I don't want to have to go through that again and thankfully it hasn't happened so far. Buying a 500GB or even 250GB drive for your operating system will absolutely mean your data cannot be lost unless that specific drive fails, no relying on operating systems being perfectly stable all the time.
    I would also not get the Corsair Shift PSU as even in my Fractal Define 7XL there isn't really enough room to manage all the cables on the back side. I managed to to it barely and get the side panel on, but since I have a PSU shroud I would have just gone for the regular orientation drive.

    • @PCBuilderChannel
      @PCBuilderChannel  10 місяців тому +11

      Sorry you went through that! One day I'll do a video on data backup, because regardless of your drive setup I strongly recommend it and you can re-image your entire drive or load in a backup copy. Also good to know about the Corsair shift. IMO it isn't worth the extra money and I haven't been recommending it.

    • @o0Silverwolf0o
      @o0Silverwolf0o 10 місяців тому

      I got the shift and found out that with my old case, it wouldn't even fit in the normal orientation there was no cut out. I had to install it upside down and defeated the feature of easier cable management. But I was doing a full system upgrade anyway, so when I chose my new case I made sure that it had the proper cut out and room for cabling and fan/rgb hubs, I wanted to avoid the nightmare from the previous build. It's a good A tier psu now. And the cpu 8 pins were so much cleaner to route.

    I upgraded quite a bit over my old PC. Did a little future proofing as well with gen 5 lanes on mobo and the larger PSU for possible GPU upgrade later down the line. Old set-up was a 6700k with a 2060.
    My newest build: 7800x3d, 7900xtx, 4tb Samsung 990 pro M.2, x670e Msi Mag Tomahawk, Evga CLCX 360 Aio, Vengance 32gb DDR5-6000 CL30, 7 Sl v2 Lian Li fans, beQuiet Darkpower 13 1000w PSU, and it's all sitting nicely in a Lian Li 011 evo dynamic case. Paired with an Alienware 3440x1440 OLED 165hz Free Sync Premium Pro. Runs everything in Ultra settings w/o RT at 165fps+ easily. Don't even need to use frame generation on some games and i never use upscaling at all. Amazing performance and looks stunning on the monitor especially with HDR.

      @@billylevelsup5634 Yeah now is the time to hold of on buying a new GPU. The 5000 series NVidia cards (end of this year) and the newer AMD stuff will be here soonish. So if you can save up for ~6 to 8 months then a reduced 4000 series card or 7000 series card will hopefully be a good deal. That's my goal right now. I just didn't have the cash to get a new gpu last year. I ended up needing to get a new CPU+motherboard+ram because I had an i7-3930k that finally died after I moved house. So I got an r9-7950x back in october in 2022. That's been good since I found and fixed the issues with it.
      Now I need to get a new gfx card. My thinking is that I won't need a new CPU for about 6 to 8 years if I go for the more expensive one. In the past that usually worked. Get some more cores and they'll help in the long run. GFX cards are a different story. I've found that usually you want a new one every 2 years if you can,because of new GPU tech they keep adding,or 4 years if you want to stretch your budget and the games you play aren't slow. I want a bit more texture memory because I usually play video on a 2nd monitor and that means a 16gb or more card will be a good idea in the future.
      TLDR; Get a higher RAM GFX card because in the future better textures and AI stuff will use more RAM. Get a higher clock(better for games generally as most games are still single threaded/rely on high clocks) or multi core cpu (depending on what you want to do more cores might be better for background tasks and general longevity) and you won't go wrong generally.
      My old system was still limping along ok and I was going to upgrade the GPU but the motherboard died so upgrading the cpu first was the better option. I didn't have enough to get everything so I spent the extra few hundred on the much better cpu (the X3D versions wasn't out yet). Now 2 years later and the market for GPUs might not suck as much when the newer stuff later this year are released. Prices are still horrible.

    Amazing!!! I just finished my build last night thanks to you Jason, everything I gained from watching a multitude of your other videos you just bundled into one! Here is where I landed: NZXT H5 Flow, Strix B650 E-F, 7800X3D, 7900XTX Taichi, 32GB Trident Neo DDR5 CL30 6000, SK Hynix P41 2TB, Be Quiet Pure Power 12M 1000W. Using this to make the AW3423DWF sing 🎶. One question: The pure power came with (2) PCIE slots and (1) PCIE 5. With the 7900XTX requiring (3) PCIE connections should I return the power supply for one with (3) or use the "devil spawn" of the second cable? Bear in mind, my closest microcenter to return said power supply is a 4 hour drive. THANKS!

    For Christmas, I built my son's PC with the 7800 X3D, and paired it with a 9800 XT and ASRock B650E PG Riptide. He's having a blast and I have to thank you for all the videos. I'm currently in the hunt to build one for myself and I'm having a hard time not leaning towards the same components.....well, minus all the ARGB I stuffed in there for a wow factor. Couldn't help myself. I think I'm going to cram everything into the the Lian Li SUP, so my setup looks different than his Lancool 216. He has a Peerless Assassin, but I'd have to go with an AIO in that case. Hard not to go for the 9800 XTX for that extra VRAM, but for me...that's probably overkill. I gotta boast somewhere though...his desk is right there! :) Looking at my New Egg order history, I seem to upgrade every eight years.....I'm currently rocking my i5, with two Zotac NVIDEA GTX 970 4GB from 2016. I'm sad because I thought 10 years passed at least.

    I agree that the 7800X3D is an excellent choice. I just bought a 7950X3D though. Why? I exclusively play MSFS and I'm kinda rolling the dice that Microsoft will live up to their promise of much better multi-core utilization in FS2024 (scheduled for release November 19th.) While it's certainly true that core parking and CPU affinity on the 7950X3D is trickier, there are ways to control both.
    Also, it's great to hear that the X670 chipset will handle XMP RAM. I found mine (G.SKILL Trident Z5 RGB 6400/CL32) on the Gigabyte motherboard (Aorus X670E Pro X) QVL, but I've been having second thoughts as to whether I should have gotten DDR5 that's explicitly listed as EXPO compatible. I'm keeping my 3 year-old 3090 Ti/24GB until GPU prices get better.

    Just bought a gigabyte 4070 ti super with the 7800x3D, went for 360mm TT AIO and 1 exhaust with 3 Unifan intakes. H6 Flow RGB and the Team group Delta RGB Ram at 6400mhz speed.
    It looks amazing so far. The only thing I've compromised on was the MOBO, the MSI B650S wifi
    The PSU is the 750Watt deepcool Ak750D 80+ Gold

    Thanks for the awesome video and it came out at the perfect time. I'm looking to build a 7800x3d. What are your thoughts on sound cards internal/external? I currently run my headphones through a dac but through my research seems 50/50 of people say you don't need one if you have a dac and other side says the soundcard has the software for better gaming experience. This would be for fps games, thanks

    Been deciding between 7800x3d and the 14700k for some video editing with primarily gaming. (Paired with a 4080 super) It seems like x3d is capable enough for that. The dead intel socket worries me. 7950x3d is an option but it's kinda too expensive and I can't be arsed fiddling with settings to turn off non v cache cores lol.😢

    I just made my new pc after tons of issues (being sent broken mobo etc) and it seems i got a lucky 7800x3d as i can heavy undervolt it and its perfectly stable. I used a 4080 super (coulda got a 4090 but i wanted a good looking pc too so i wasted money on looks, plus.. why pay double when next gen is soon). Is ur new build review or suggestions thing soon? Would like to see your thoughts on more of a visual appeal build since its my first ever gaming pc. I will make one comment though, ssd dont matter for most games but some like ratchet and clank which was intended to run on the ps5 nvme run drastically better on a high end ssd, dont need gen 5 but a more premium 7000 speed gen4 one gives you the ps5 no load time experience

I went with the MSI MAG Pano M100R PZ case and powered by the MSI MAG A850GL PCIE5 power supply. I decided to go with the Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120. Everything is running great so far. I decided to remove the fan/argb hub that came with the case and connected all the fans and argb to the motherboard.

    @12:00 "so you don't need a separate boot drive for your operating system, so it's absolutely fine to have a single large capacity drive"
    That works perfectly well if you need 4TB or less. The needs of some are different. I use a partitioned 1TB nvme for boot, and 2x 10TB HDDs (system drive images and backups are external/offline).
