    Fantastic. Man I so appreciate your tutorials. It provides me with inspiration to do more. I purchased my F10 535D 2nd hand a few years ago and I am looking to start some basic maintenance. I did the rear brakes using UA-cam videos and was successful. A great saving of $1,500 dollars. Parts cost me $480 versus a quoted $2,300 (Aussie dollars) by my local BMW repairer. Total rip off. Anyway, I am sure we are all keen to learn more. Thanks for effort.

    Great video, didnt know about the dimming option for the mirror.
    Checking the oil level should be when the car is warmed up, that is atleast what I read in the manual.

    hey mate great video as always. I have a 2014 x5 f15 with the exact same engine as your f11, ZF8HP transmission running about 60k km only. Recently i am experiencing some funny little vibration whenever i release the gas paddle during very low speed running in a parking lot or just before coming to a red light (when rpm drops to around idle range). Almost feels like in a manual car when the clutch engages the flywheel you have a bit of vibration or "kick" if you know what I mean... It is much more noticeable when the car has being running for a while than when it is cold. I wonder if it is the TC clutch? have you noticed anything like this? also down shifting when coasting is very noticeable too with a lot of engine breaking felling...hope you can give me some insights? by the way, ISTA shows no code what so ever....

    Great is see you back with another excellent, no waffle video. The 6 series F12, F13 and F06 (which is what I drive) are exactly the same as the 5 series. BTW, what happened to your oil catch can project?

    • @Nut_Job.
      @Nut_Job.  4 роки тому

      Thanks Mark, yes I was keen to get going with a catch can. I worked out how I could do the install, but I wasn’t convinced it would work very well due to pipe-routing & can placement. I may still do it just as an experiment though.

  • @berniecoles2337
    @berniecoles2337 2 роки тому +1

    I have a 530d F11 with the Dynamic handling and VDC package. I recently had a rear shock go and replaced with a genuine VDC damper, as pattern ones aren’t available. £600 with the bump stop and gaiter including fitting by my local garage. However I now have to get my car programmed to accept it, at a cost of £220 via an independent specialist to code it to the car. So all told it’s costing me £820 for one shock. It’s great to have the top spec suspension and it handles great, but OMG it’s at a cost😱

    • @Nut_Job.
      @Nut_Job.  4 роки тому +1

      I think it’s worth upgrading my one because it’s ridiculously basic (being ex-plod) but it’s not essential for most people. However it really makes the driving experience a bit nicer if you’re keeping longterm 👍

  • @psp0guy

    hello, I have a question. when you refilled the antifreeze did you use a pressure bleeder?

    • @Nut_Job.
      @Nut_Job.  4 роки тому +1

      No, you don’t really need one. As it turned out, after rebuilding the engine it just took 90% of the fluid using gravity. But even if it didn’t, you can do the BMW bleeding process I showed with the A/C unit + accelerator pedal which starts up the coolant pump to bleed the system. Just repeat & top up the fluid until full 👍

    Fantastic video! I've been having some transmission problems with my F10 LCI, I am going to be doing a transmission filter and oil change, if that doesnt solve it ill change the torque converter and if that fails too, whole new tranmission unit with the same mechatronics. Dreading it as ill be doing it on the drive haha, wish me luck!

    • @Nut_Job.
      @Nut_Job.  4 роки тому +1

      If you end up taking the transmission out then all I would say is be careful & take it slowly. Don’t risk injury or damage to the transmission 👍

      Nut Job Morning! Just out of curiosity, how did you manage to get the car high enough? And also how did you manage to put 2 rear axle stands? I can’t do it for the life of me 😂 it’s awkward because you only have 4 mounting points and I’m meant to lift it with a jack and put an axle stand in the same point? The only thing I can think of is to lift it from the rear differential?

    • @Nut_Job.
      @Nut_Job.  4 роки тому

      Exactly 👍 I lifted the back end from underneath the diff 😊

    I am looking at getting a 2016 520d m sport speck as my next mini cab. I remember a good couple of videos back when you replaced your air vent trim you was talking about fitting a bigger screen in the bash. Will you still be doing that I only ask as every 520d I have looked at has the small screen and when I do get one I will be upgrading to the large screen

      I’ve put it on hold actually because I’ve been trying to watch my spending for a bit, but I would like to do it. I was planning to install an aftermarket Android based unit which is made for the F10/11 and adds a few nice features like Bluetooth, DAB, and Apple CarPlay 👍

    How do you prime fuel system if you change the fuel filter?

    • @Nut_Job.
      @Nut_Job.  4 роки тому

      The proper way is by using ISTA. The way I did it was by opening/locking the car a few times, leaving it a few mins in between to let the canbus shutdown. When you unlock the car it powers everything up; you’ll hear the air compressor come on, the glow plugs warm up, and the fuel system primes itself - all before you’ve even got into the drivers seat! That’s what I did anyway, then the fuel is already at the HPFP and it won’t damage itself 👍

    3.0_2.0 BMW diesel is one better for reliability ie snapping chains ? Also would you know recommend time to change and cost ? thanks

    • @Nut_Job.
      @Nut_Job.  4 роки тому

      There are more reported snapped chains on the 2.0 but I think that’s because there’s more of them on the roads. It’s the same chain kit for either engine. I would change the chain before 150k miles definitely 👍

    • @Nut_Job.
      @Nut_Job.  4 роки тому +1

      Hi there, yes my rear glass opens like it should do. Something which doesn’t work (& I haven’t been interested to investigate yet) is the retracting load cover. I think it’s supposed to retract upwards when you open the rear glass but mine doesn’t. I hardly ever use the glass hatch anyway if I’m honest 🤷‍♂️

    Why can't you jump start from the Battery???

    • @Mark333032
      @Mark333032 4 роки тому

      It's to do with how the car manages the battery through it's life which is probably the reason you must register a new battery with the car each time you replace the old one. It's also rather awkward to access the battery terminals directly. Much easier to use the poles in the engine bay both for jump starting your BMW or using your BMW to start someone else's car
